I purchased a brick at the USDF headquarters in memory of a horse. I also have the horse shoes she was wearing when she won a ch in dressage at the Pinto World champs, along with the ribbon, in a...

No pool. We didn't want the maintenance, (lord knows we have ENOUGH to take are around here as it is!) extra liability and insurance cost. In fact, we bought the only place we looked at that DIDN'T...

My old trainer and I used to call this feeling "dressage crack" -- once you experienced it, you just wanted more, more more!!

The USDF Under Foot booklet recommends 4" of base for dressage and 6" for jumping. Deeper for both if a busy commercial barn. And recommends 2 inches of sand for dressage. IME that is about right...

One of the largest challenges I've faced in installing outdoor arenas (working on my third now) on the TX Gulf Coast is the complete lack of most of the building materials mentioned in the USDF's...

As a prank a fraternity 'stole' a rival school's mascot, a horse, and spray painted stuff on its side. It did almost die from the oil-based spray paint. Not a good idea, especially when better...

My 10 year old pinto mare has a lot of skin tags. I noticed a few several years ago and now she has probably two dozen. They are on pink as well as dark areas of her skin. Randomly occuring all over...

When I was in Mississippi right after Katrina, the most impressive thing I saw was a horse with contact info spray painted on its side in day glow orange. I also saw one with...

As I've posted before, I have a 5-acre property that I've been leasing out for 8 years now. I have not had many problems, but I screen carefully and have a 14-page lease that covers what they can and...

As her 'employer' it really is your responsibility to provide her with suitable equipment for the task. I agree that her rake is too large. Proper rake/child ratio should not be 2 to 1. Really, you...

Sperry duck shoes. Completely waterproof. They also last for years. Can NOT imagine cleaning stalls (even just my three!) in Crocks or flipflops.

An idea for your first time scribing is to , yes, do it at a schooling show. I also suggest just doing about a 2-hour stint your first time. Explain what you're doing to show manager - they will...

I know you said Hanoverian, but Frohwind, an Oldenburg, has a long history of producing really nice horses crossed with Arabians and even Arabian crosses.
I have one - he is 5, is double registerd...

My dad has had this problem and swears the only thing that really works is picking the tomatoes before they have the slightest tinge of pink. He then wraps them in newspaper, puts them on the counter...

Let me know. I think I set a record a few weeks ago -- 1 horse, 2 different injuries within 24 hours, and saw 3 different vets within 24 hours. And a 4th vet within the same week. Do I win anything?...

You can't separate the tail from the horse. ;) IE, look at the WHOLE picture. It's very easy (as in the case of Matine) to see the floppy ears and lovely expression at the OTHER end of the horse....

Ditto. Except mine are champagne, not white.

And on top of the Lutalyse, I would have the mares cultured to make sure they didn't get a uterine infection on top of everything else. Those can 'percolate' and render a mare infertile if not caught...

The most enticing thing for her though was that the chores could be done at any hour of the day, just as long as they got done. What this meant was that she could go to her...

Because I am gone 11 hours every day between work and commuting, and the weather here is so changeable it's virtually impossible to choose the appropriate equine clothing needed at 5:00 a.m. and...

This is exactly my set-up but instead of grooming horses, she sweeps the aisle, cleans tack, de-cobwebs the barn, does horse laundry, etc. Basically an hour to clean my stalls and an hour to do...

I am 30 miles from the Gulf, and we got a lot of rain. It is not uncommon to have nightly spraying for a period of a week or more at a time, on numerous occasions over the summer. This year it was so...

I am getting ready to put in an arena - or rather, renovate current arena. I am in an area near NO quarries, so base materials are very expensive. Theonly choices around here are crushed limestone or...

You can have the best equipment and materials in the world for the job, but if you don't have the experience, your outcome may not be satisfactory - at least for an arena. There is a lot of 'fudge'...
