For anyone who remembers this thread, the horse died a few days ago. He had a massive tumour on his lungs.
My friend who was caring for the horse did a fantastic job with him & even had him out...

Scarlet Runner Beans! I`ve finally managed to lure our humming birds across the pasture and near to the house. Plus tasty beans!
-
For humidifying the house in the winter our dryer exhaust is connected to a sort of bucket structure. So the air drops off the lint, picks up water and sends moist warm air into the house - it is...

Be carefull using vinegar if you've also got some bleach in that load, doesn't go well!
I just run everything through the dryer to stop hubby's whining, but I've also noticed a HUGE difference...

So when is the book coming out?

Can you do something to distract him once he's on the trailer?
An open window, a toy, hiding bits of apple in his hay?
-
If your vet has been working with you for more then a year & nothing has been solved maybe you should consider trying another vet, at least for a consult.
I know for human UTIs cranberry juice is...

Sounds like he's just got selective hearing. Is he responding to other commands with out hand gestures?
My collies are generally very well behaved but every now and then they get an independent...

Flea Comb.
Bucket of Soapy Water.
Sunny afternoon.
Go nuts!
I found that has worked best with our new little former-barn kitten. I've gotten 3 dozen off in the two days and she isn't...

Vinegar water probably wouldn't hurt but it will kill your grass! (or any other plants).
It'd go with PDZ too (or stableboy)

HorseKeeping on a Small Acreage.
Everything you need (seriously I think I should be getting a cut from the publisher or something...)

Maybe you could consider moving all your tack and throwing the duck in there until the spiders are gone? (If you've got an empty stall/portch).
I hear you on the plywood! Because it's cosmetic not...
-
For the general protection of your herd, have you considered rescuing a donkey or llama?
I hope everything is resolved for you soon, that's really disappointing that your neighbour is being so...

I have always fed hay unless there is a distinct smell of mold and never had a problem with that. However, I still wouldn't feed it to a horse with respiratory problems or broodmares.

Chickens really can't fly that far, I think it's 6' upwards max? So an 8' fence would contain them?
(chicken people, please correct me if I'm incorrect)
Or Indian Runner Ducks don't fly at all...

I don't think it's URI; I think she's sniffly from all the rain & possibly from the milk she's been drinking (I know that can cause some congestion).
Either way it's really cleared up & she's...

The more you spray, the more you're going to have to spray. There will never be any more spiders then there is food to eat - you need to deal with the route cause (perhaps uncovered grain causing...

Me too, oh well I only grew the corn for cover for the other plants - with corn $2 a dozen down the road I couldn't care less :D.
Everything I planted is doing well, except the onions which died...

My votes is definetly for the cupola, they make a HUGE difference with ventilation.

Thanks guys - she really is a lovely colour now that she's cleaned up, very soft gray!
The sniffles are greatly cleared up; we've moved onto the green/yellow mucus thanks to all the saline she's...

Because she's so darn cute: Peaches
Hubby brought home a squirming box yesterday :) It's a 4 month old kitten. Now hubby is NOT a cat person, but my tom-cat was hit by a car last winter and he...

Thank you very much Tamara, I guess then sometimes it's dust & sometimes it's mold spores, very good to know!
-
I don't think there is any reason for them to cancel the show - but the shipped in horses shouldn't be going anywhere near the barn's horses. We always had people tack up at their trailers, they only...
-
Tamara, thanks for the excellent reply! I've certainly experience every kind of hay you described based on their "smells" but didn't really understand the difference (other then the obvious, this...

I actually really don't understand why people turn out their foals in mixed herds, it makes me so nervous! Foals are so expensive and fragile; until they are old enough to defend themselves, I don't...
