You are indeed, stretching. With all due respect, not all Thoroughbreds fit into one stereotypical mold in regards to body type. I have two great great grandchildren of Secretariat in my barn and not...

In any case she's a healthy, lovely Oldenburg filly....

This is a great article - thanks for posting it!
I hate watching people longe thier horses at the canter for a half hour straight and saying that they "have to tire them out before they get on."...

For whatever reason I cannot stand the word "breast". I know that that is what they are called and it's not "slang" but it bothers me! Similarly, tits and "ta-ta's" drives me up a tree.
When I refer...

So tonight I was telling a little girl all about the Kentucky Derby during her lesson. I am a racing nut, and I like to teach the kids all about the racing that they see on TV. So I told her that the...

"You catch more flies with honey than you do vinegar."
I use that one when I'm trying to teach my students to be gentle and forgiving with their hands when they ride.

And just for an exclamation point to why a lot of things have made me a little sad today:
The entertainment news show TMZ (my husbands choice of viewing, not mine) speculated as to whether or not...

I think one of the main themes of history is the tendency for religion to be usurped by political motive and gain. Thoroughout history there are prime examples of the Catholic church being quite...

Kent and Vixen fall into my own private category of "stupid people who should just be shot before they procreate." I'm pretty sure Kent is a girl. Mostly because I'm pretty sure that he couldn't grow...

This morning as dear, dear Mr. Fargonefarm was leaving for work I heard him shout "Babe, get up...the horses are out."
Because that's always the way you want to wake up....
Anyhoo, with...

After reading this thread, and others like it, all I have to say to those who think "SSS" is cruel and unnecessary is those of us who can do it, will do it, because sadly the laws in this country...

No words of wisdom or advice, but good for your BF for carving out a life for himself. It's wonderful that he has you and your family for support. Make sure you tell him every day how proud you are...

While I am very happy that so many people are incredibly "happy happy joy joy" today because of the holiday, I must admit that I am in a decidedly foul mood. I am not feeling well and DH said...

Mr. fargonefarm has a niece who is in the third grade. He told me this morning that her parents will be giving her a cellphone for Easter this year. I expressed my dismay (which started an argument)...

I gave up Catholocism. Seriously
I decided that I no longer wanted to participate and/or endorse an organization that treated me like a second-class citizen because of my gender - among other...

Thank you, mademoiselle. That was a very intelligent, thought out post. I've been reading this thread with interest.
And that was a sane post. :)

I agree with the comment that the rated shows warmups are SO MUCH better than the schooling shows. But nastiness and snottiness can still abound.
I was in the warm-up of a rated Dressage show...

I have ridden in a couple of smaller schooling type shows recently where some of the behavior in the warm-up has made my hair stand on end - and a lot of it has come from those who should know...

I agree with Bluey, 110%.
Here's the thing, kids: How are most people supposed to learn to ride (safely)? Lesson horses. Lesson horses are an integral part of our sport.
And true - there are a...

This thread kind of makes me laugh...kind of. We had some terrorist deer take done a section of the very back of my large pasture fence - posts and all - and since the ground was too frozen to fix...
