We've had several (mostly prospective racehorses) to break-- they've all worn the regular old half-tree exercise saddle with a lollipop type riser pad, and been fine-- that might be a good compromise...
-
I've never had a problem with one that tied well in the barn not tying in the trailer (we do always use breakaway halters/ tie straps) -- once they are in there with the ramp up and the doors closed...

I got a brown Horze pair last year that are super. http://www.horze.com/Horze-Ladies-Active-Full-Seat-Riding-Breeches/36471,en_US,pd.html They're pretty generously cut, so if you're in doubt, I'd...

It might be best to leave the front boots off or use open fronts until he learns to pick his legs up. A horse that rubs fences enough to wear his boots out is probably not one you want to ride xc.

There are worse things than not being able to consistently field gold medal teams. Is it really worth it if we have to ruin the horses to get there?
-
I have a headshaker, and I found that he destroyed the hairnets pretty quickly and spazzed about the tights (but he is kind of weird about his nose.) I use the Cashel net with a loose flash noseband...

If he's never seen/ smelled/ heard a donkey before, do be aware that some horses find them horrifying. For some reason the smaller ones are even worse than the normal- sized ones.
-
I think the most worrying part is that she's another O'Connor protege, which means this is clearly a schedule they're advocating.

Does this mean she left the xc course without being checked, or is there a more formal process for FEI? When I've fallen on xc at a HT or been a jump judge and there's been a fall, the EMTs have...

OMG, dogs mating, the horror!
Sorry, am I missing something?
It sounds like the job is worth about $10 an hour.

Are you quite sure it's physical? Given that history--no turnout, lots of ring work, etc., if you can't turn anything else up I would be tempted to try hacking him out in company a lot. Lots of...

Honestly, I feel like so many other factors (luck, training, soundness, luck, personality, luck) besides natural talent go into making a top event horse, cloning would be the least of my worries. ...

Very carefully :)
For handling her hind end specifically--I find that it's best to start by standing at her head, holding her. Use a dressage whip or lunge whip--start by just holding it against...

I think the Sovereigns are pretty much just nicer versions of the PDN (better leather.)

I have the JR8 in a 7 1/8. It does seem like it sits up higher than my old Pro. Didn't try the GR8--it was too expensive. But I like the JR8, and use it every day and for events.

Start soaking. And when it's not in hot water, I'd pack the hole with cotton soaked in betadine.

I wouldn't try to ride in it, no way. Where are you located? That will make a difference where it can be FedEXed in one day. And hey, if you're in MD/ SE PA, I can probably lend you something?
-
I agree with most of what's been said about the courses--I can remember doing BN a couple of years ago, and the first six fences were all teeny logs, but spaced so that you never got a good approach/...

If any horse on the farm has ever had strangles, the bacteria can live in the soil indefinitely. That said, every year in the fall we have several horses with an abscess but no symptoms...
-
My guess is he just gets bored and annoyed. An hour is a long time to walk.
-
Ditto turning him out for at least six months, then see what you have.

It's fairly common to see stomach issues with doxy. If you can possibly do Ulcer/ GastroGuard, that's the way to go.
-
I wonder if she could be incontinent? I know it's fairly common (and easily treated w/ medication) in dogs, although I've never heard of it in cats. I housesit for a female dog who does it, and she...

I don't think her lack of communication is all that surprising--people get busy, and then it's too late to make a business call, and you don't make it on the computer every day, etc. I do think the...

Bev,
There was a really good article in The Horse in August 09, too. The FIRST thing I would try (cause it's easy and cheap) is the nose net. I got the Cashel one from adamshorsesupply.com for...
