Posted by a vet on FB who said she had permission from the state to share. EIA is not something we typically have in California and a Coggins test is not required by most shows and horse facilities....

This probably won't happen, at least with the large rated shows as they seem to "need" more rings than Earl Warren has. Ironically, the then-glitzy LAEC (then called Griffith Park Equestrian Center)...

The LAHJA Facebook page says the finals will stay within LA County. This is to be discussed at their board meeting (next week).

Yes, it really boosts the cost and inconvenience of doing those two...

    My protocol is:
    1. Call vet.
    2. Do what vet says to do to horse.
    3. Have vet out if readily available and she thinks it makes sense to do so.
    4. If not, walk horse to clinic.

    The clinic is...

Other fun units include the Smoot, also a unit of length, and the beard-second, if you are into derived units. The second one is pretty self-explanatory. The Smoot is the height of a student in the...

Yeah on the math. Years of teaching basic chemistry helps with the unit conversion thing. I have students convert miles per hour into furlongs per year and meters per minute. My favorite was a test...

Knowing that Cu = copper and being able to write its electron configuration doesn't mean I understand how it fits into nutrition. My science training is useful in one regard as it is a running joke...
  10. Hair Mineral Analysis - super high Al, low Cu, and other stuff

I sent Skipper's hair in for analysis on the suggestion of one vet and the concurrence of my regular vet. We were kind of looking of the possibility of low Ca(lciim) since he's had some weird bone...

My now 18-y.o. cat was diagnosed several (3? 4?) years ago. Her values from the blood work aren't that bad and haven't got much worse. She'll eat one of the two dry food options they gave me, but...

My horse Star, now retired and apparently no longer itchy, was one itchy dude. He'd lead on the bars between the cross ties so hard that I was afraid it would break or he'd flip over the top.

I was worried since it was listed as no longer available on the websites for the gig box pet stores. But I found it at the first place I visited. Pet Stop. Have no idea if that is a chain? But they...

The Profender is a topical. Still better than those giant pills.

Talked ex to vet who had never heard of using Cosequin, but read up on it before she called me back and said it was certainly...

Yes, a COTH thread surfaced when I Googled sterile cystitis. And, since no cat thread is complete without a photo, here you go.

Vet called. The with whom I've been dealing isn't back in the office until tomorrow.

Is there a brick and mortar place to get Cosequin? Do vets tend to carry it? Trying to plan ahead. It's pretty...

Thank you! That does seem likely and the Prasozin is one of the suggested treatments. Will look into the Cosequin.
  23. Update Post #18 - Male cat - urinating issues, negative urine culture

Male cat, probably around 4-5 years old. It's our barn cat, that gets locked up at night. To make a long story short, we have periodic painful and inappropriate urination. Cat has been to vet. Twice....

Make sure the end if the needle is completely submerged in liquid. If it isn't you'll draw in a mix of air and liquid. You may have to tilt the bottle to accomplish this.
