Spin off – Does your farrier give injections?
Spin off of another thread. Seems like some posters have farriers that administer sedatives. How common of a practice is this? The very few times I have needed a sedative for a shoeing appointment, my farrier at the time (a well respected “sport horse” farrier in Woodside CA) – insisted that a veterinarian or the owner administer the drugs.
I think this is totally reasonable, because as I understand it, farriers are not licensed to administer prescription medications.
But, from the tone of some posts, it sounds like this is standard practice among some circles.
Is it? Does your farrier give injections? Any farriers on the board want to chime in?
