You did the right thing, Guin. I'm sure it was a hard decision for you, but you're right - it was the cat's house first, and he deserves to feel comfortable there.
And it would've been hard to train the dog not to chase the cat if the cat refused to stick around for the training. I bet the cat could sense the dog was for realz about it - good call on your part.
Sigh. Anyone know an older, male, mellow dog that DOES NOT CHASE CATS and will get along with my lonely corgi?
The shelters are full of them, Guin-you did the right thing for your household and the dog; he can go be himself somewhere else. Keep looking for the one that is supposed to be in your household!

Sorry for the outcome, but you did the right thing. I'm sure the cat thinks so too!! It was a no win situation if he stayed.
So sorry but you did the right thing. I cannot imagine what would have happened, eventually, if you kept the dog. Good luck finding a cat neutral dog, it is only a matter of time!
I'm guessing from your OP that you got this guy from a rescue (since you mentioned his former foster home). Does that rescue have a foster home with cats? If you adopted from someone like that, you'd know for sure whether or not the dog would coexist peacefully with feline-Americans before you brought him home.Quote:
