video fun: para-equestrian showjumping with Michel Robert
Michel Robert is one of France's great horsemen. Most of his career has been in showjumping, but eventers can claim him as one of our own because he made his first Olympic team, in 1972, in eventing.
If you're not familiar with him, he's had quite a career, is obsessed with the basics and the details, and, as this video proves, can train horses with even the most unorthodox riders.
Last month, at Equita Lyon, M. Robert served as guide rider for a para-showjumper. This classification is for visually-impaired riders, the jumps are set at .70m and the rider follows a sighted rider and horse around the course. If there was ever a discipline built around trust and courage, this is it.
