Dior and I had a wonderful day out hunting with Casanova! Thank you, JSwan, everyone who helped us today (had a few tense moments at a couple of muddy stream crossings, but did them all), all the staff, and Mrs. Jones for a sumptuous hunt breakfast. We loved it!!!
There was even a standoff with a bull. JSwan can fill in the details (since some of it is a little blurry to me at this point)!! Fox hunting--Virginia bullfighting??

I hate calves and cows with a sense of humor that start chasing the field. Bulls present a whole 'nuther level of challenge! Congrats on the great day!
A very nice man on a brave horse marched straight up to the bull, who we presumed was challenging us because we were messing around his herd, and stood face to face with him until he stopped and we were all safely through the gate. Dior was very brave and didn't run away from the cows. She even led the way across a wooden bridge. Except for some hesitation at a muddy stream crossing, she willingly and boldly went everywhere. With help from some others, I did get her across all the streams. Deer running straight at us, and a reversal of the first field she pretty much took in stride. No problems with the hounds. Will probably go again this week. Definitely much more interesting for the horses than dressage work...

Sounds like you had a great time. My horse would not have appreciated the cows! I can still remember the first time we came across a herd of sheep while out hunting. He was fine until they moved :lol:. I'm sure he didn't realize they were alive until them.
Full size hogs in a field, llamas guarding alpacas, and loose emus on the woodland trails are some of the *interesting* fauna to brighten up ODH territory. Those dressage moves can be quite useful. Lots of "expression", too..
Yup. Got some nice medium trot. No canter pirouettes were necessary, since the bullfighting was done by someone else...
Hey, glad you had fun! One suggestion, get Dior 's water crossings so she is absolutely obedient about going forward. We were lucky the field didn't go too far and we weren't on a run, and we were also lucky we didn't hinder staff too much by blocking that stream. Dior was thumbing her nose at you, but with the right level of encouragement (generously applied legs and stick) she got over it quickly. She 's a nice horse.Quote:

Glad to hear you had a fun time. As someone who lives in cowtown, and often has to ride around fields of cattle, the story with the bull cracked me up. Now you're getting me itching to go out again!
