Fans of Obie, the 77-lb dachshund...
For anyone who doesn't remember, Obie is a dachshund who was surrendered to an Oregon dachshund rescue group about two months ago at 77 lbs. The group asked for help finding an appropriate foster home for him where he could have his special needs taken care of while losing the weight. His foster mom, Nora, has been posting Obie updates on Facebook as "Biggest Loser, Dachshund Edition," and he's now down to 62 lbs.
Apparently the rescue now is suing her to give him back, because they claim she hasn't been adequately caring for him: http://www.komonews.com/news/local/O...html?tab=video
Drives me nuts, because the foster mom posts on FB every darn day with pictures and videos of Obie's progress, Obie playing and cuddling with her other dachshund, Obie going to the beach, Obie going for a very very very slow walk, Obie's weigh-in for the week, etc. He's clearly losing weight at an appropriate pace and is also clearly well-loved and happy. She took him to NYC for TV appearances, which focused on recognizing and preventing pet obesity, and although she's received a lot of donations, I'm sure that a massively overweight dog requires a lot of special maintenance and I don't think she's feathering her nest at his expense.
Anyway, I understand we're clearly only hearing her side of the story here, but it really does seem like the rescue's pissed at not getting their share of the fame and donations, rather than genuinely concerned about the dog.
