Rohirrim and saddle history
I haven't found a thread for this so here goes....
I watched a big chunk of LOTR: The Twin Towers today, mostly to get another look at the saddles. Huge vertical pommel and nearly verticle cantle, flaps with NO rolls like the flattest dressage saddle I've ever seen, and stirrups that emerge from the flap way low and would have a 'swing point' much lower than I'm used to, with little arc for bracing forward or backward (like, when you joust with a Warg!!)
WIERD looking, but I'm sure I've seen a similar design somewhere in antique saddelry. Where in history did that saddle design come from?? And would anyone have an idea what it would ride like?
