UPDATE: I have started a Spreadsheet so that we can have a Master List. It can be edited by anyone, so let's see if we can all add to it, with out it getting trashed. Here is the link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AvEQvR7Wztv8dEhQYUxRX0ZQZHRyZGVIWnB6THpkd FE#gid=0 (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AvEQvR7Wztv8dEhQYUxRX0ZQZHRyZGVIWnB6THpkd FE#gid=0)

***Click the link in my sig line below, to go to our NEW FACEBOOK PAGE. :)****

************************************************** *******
I once found a TB I galloped, at Re-Run in Ky. I contacted the director there, and td her everything I knew about him, and also gave her my contact I do for any potential adopters. Not long after a woman contacted me, and eventually adopted him. She later told me that it was hearing all of my stories about his early years that sealed the deal for her.

UPDATE - Thanks to catknsn, we now have a list of every TB that has been named on this thread, so far. If you would like to add a TB - or TBs - please post their names on this thread, or contact catknsn.

The Link to the ***OLD*** COTH TB's We Have Known List is: http://www.pretzelkitty.com/cothlist.html

Seeing how small the horse community really is, I thought it would be neat if we could post all the Thoroughbreds we have trained/ridden/owned and cared for, and compare notes. Who knows....you may find out what hapened to that TB you once galloped years ago.

I'll start:

Haven't met any of those, but wondering if anyone has worked with my horse's sire, Bounding Basque (now deceased--raced in the mid 80's) or any
of his progeny?

And a horse named Fort Metfield that was still racing several years ago--
gorgeous horse! Saw him at Lone Star and he took my breath away that day.

BasqueMom, we have either a half- or full-sister to Bounding Basque. She's not any trouble.

Nope. Delightfully Irish was a mare that my husband and I bred, that ended up maturing at 14.2 1/2 hands. After my husband and I seperated I gave her back to husband who donated her to some woman in Athens I think, though I haven't anything more about her. She's 7 and a light bay with a checkmark on her forhead. I sure miss my Maggie Mae.

Freebird- When did you have Master Rasper?

I remember him from his days owned by Kinross Farm and being a steeplechaser.

Awwww.......I haven't seen him since he was a weanling. He and his dam, With Love belonged to my boss - the trainer of the farm I galloped/worked at, and also the father of my H/J instructor. We called him Derby at the farm, and he was a pistol! He would beat up on the other babies - as well as his mama, lol - and even broke my finger when he decided to rear up one day and my finger got in the way. We always said he would be a great 'chaser, with his build.

SteeleRdr
May. 10, 2007, 03:15 PM
He did fairly well as a chaser. I can't remember if Kinross sold him or he got claimed...but I remember him being a PITA at the races. But...Neil does really well with horses that have quirks. I think all of his really nice racers have all had something funny about them (I think it's Sur La Tete that is clostraphobic (sp?)).

You all are going to make me think to remember all the ones I've ridden. That's a BIG list! I'll get back to work and think on it...and post back :)

Brocat was donated by his trainer to CANTER New England last year, after he arrived at Suffolk Downs from the WV circuit feeling pretty sore and needing some R & R time.

He was adopted by a WONDERFUL woman who dotes on him and loves his personality - he's now known as "Brodie" and doing really well, except that he sometimes forgets he's a gelding! ;)

Here he is saying hi to me when we first met him at the track in '06:

He's a doll. Talk about well-bred, too! I almost fell over when I looked up his pedigree and saw that he is Lady Tak's half-brother.

Well, this is a sorta-kinda response - are Smoke Him Joe and Joe Also both by Cool Joe? I knew Cool Joe (nice Mid-Atlantic horse, sired a Grade I winner - El Huevos?).

Is Flying Max by Flying Pidgeon? Flying Pidgeon is doing well at Old Friends and is in the Calder Hall of Fame. I have one of his halters :)

Awww! If you don't mind PTing me with your e-mail address, I will pass it on to his adopter. I'm sure she'd love to hear about Brodie's mom and his foalhood. :)

Here's another pic of him, relaxing on the farm just after he left the track:

http://www.canterusa.org/newengland/sale/images-salehorses/BrocatNew.jpg

All the CANTER volunteers figured he must have been very well-handled in his early years. He had really great manners, and was extremely sociable and people-oriented. Apparently, he still is - after having some time off to relax and grow (unlike his mama, he is definitely NOT a petite little thing, and sprouted up to well over 16 hands), he's just started his under-saddle training and his adopter said he is "an angel" to ride.

And this is why I love a thread like this! That's great to hear that he's found a loving home. I was there when he was born. His mother was one of the daintiest, most petite mares in the barn.

Sober Jig--could that be Sober Jig Too-swaybacked grey mare?

Spooked-

I don't know, lol. The Sober Jig I knew WAS a grey mare, and she'd be 30 this year so I wouldn't be surprised if she was swaybacked. I knew her about 15 years ago, she was a sweetie then. She was at Delehanty Stock FArm in upstate NY.

She was by Jig Time out of Sober Flame, and is the dam of the unfortunately named 2000 filly Autistic Girl.

I wish I had a picture of her, then we could compare!

No, you'd remember the sway back, I galloped her back in 1987 and she definately was swaybacked then. One of the worst I've seen. She was sweet, although she was not one of my favorites as she made me infamous-I believe my record for getting run off the longest distance still holds!! Bad me for being out late the night before but the outrider was clueless!!!! Although she did finally break her maiden next time out!!! I believe she was a 3 year old then.

Lame on LH stifle and semi-fused RF ankle. Came through an auction, maybe from Minn (but could have come from almost anywhere).
This mare was well broke to ride and a gem to be around. She's gone to a wonderful retirement home.

I forgot a couple...
Rotsaluck was a really good sprinter in California and wound up running for $2500 in AZ. I bought him privately before he was going you-know-where.
Two the Twist was an awesome New York-bred. I got him for the girl who used to gallop him. Unfortunately he died not long after that (he was in his mid-teens when his race trainer decided to finally retire him) but at least he had a wonderful home with a person who adored him.

I worked for Dale Capuano during my last two years in high school and the summer after my first year in college. I only walked hots and had three I rubbed. I can't remember all the names of the horses I liked but I have TONS of pictures. Lisa Wheatley rubbed Oop and I adored that horse. He always tried to kill the guys who messed with him but for some reason he was good for me. I remember Bold anf Gorgeous because she was small and cute. Same owner. Another mare I remember was "Autotrain" she was small but such a spitfire! I'll have to dig up some old pictures. I can email them to you privately if you like.

Here's a list that I currently own:

Fred Ex - 1994 bay gelding (bred by Flying Zee Stables, NY)
Mozambique - 1995 dk. brown gelding (unknown??)
Grant's Our Boy - 1996 bay gelding (trained by Susan Fisher, history unknown)
Legal Bill - 1999 chestnut mare (bred by Robert Bakerman, FL)
Woodsplinter - 2002 bay mare (bred by Davidsons Tracks & Time, MI)

I'm lucky enough to know about both of my mares pasts. I have Fred Ex's papers and he won a few races at Finger Lakes from 1997-2000.

I've been told by Jenarby that Grant's Our Boy was an "old class" racehorse in his day placing in two stakes races in 1999. Both were second place finishes in the Horizon Stakes (turf) and the Green Carpet Handicap. He ran mostly at Thistledown and Mountaineer.

Mozambique is a mystery, papers were lost (divorce) and I never received them when I got him. I would love to know more about his racing history if anyone has heard of him.

It would be great to talk off the board to anyone who may know my "kids".

He was previous owned by the Harwell family and trained extensively in dressage by Carol Grant's daughter, Tonya Grant-Barber. The people I got him from were intimidated by him and put him out to pasture basically. He's a really nice horse that's very well trained and a 10++ mover. Here's a pic of him: http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p271/ilovejumpers/One%20Last%20Dance%20aka%20Oliver/DCP_0293.jpg

Wow small world. I had Top Gunner from about 99 to 2000. I believe she is in Florida as a broodmare, John Servis claimed her from me (for Jonabell Farm) and she has produced a couple of babies that are racing right now. Her first foal is named "We Can Do" her second foal is named "Open Meeting" third foal "Top Tripp" fourth foal "Top Mandate" her 2006 foal, a colt is yet named. Your uncle's initials must be CH?

Yep Danny 'N Mike was in fact a chestnut stallion. He was actually a pretty decent runner back in his day.

It's nice to read some of these names!

Little South is thriving as a show/pleasure mount and has a great home with a young horsewoman in NH.

Jolie's Melody, aka "The Air Fern," :) looks beautiful and enjoys a life of leisure with our Exec. Director, Ellen!

I have Arctic Sand in my Virtual Stable, and he is still running at Thistledown in OH. I really liked that horse - he was tough, and all class. I hope he is doing well...can't remember what his last race result was. I know he had a string of wins last year.

Has anyone heard of the english tb Grey Area?
He was a racehorse in england in the early nineties, and I have no clue about after that, then i ended up with him. He was a great horse, just had to be put down in Oct.
His sire was Petong, and his dam Little Mercy.
Any info, anyone?

Zesty Zeal was one of my favorites at the track. He won 1 or 2 for his last trainer and when they brought him back after his winter lay-off, his chronic "rundown" started looking like it was going to be a problem again. So at the age of 7 or 8 they made the kind decision to retire him while he was still sound enough to learn a new career.
He had about 3 good years of large pastures and happy trail riding, etc. before he was sadly euthanized when a neurological order was discovered that made him "unsafe". He was put down where he lived his last years - kindly and without fear.

Red Label was with us for awhile after he finished running at Thistledown in '05. He was on the grumpy side when he arrived, but he turned out to be the sweetest of horses once he settled in. Here's a pic of him after being at the farm awhile. http://www.rivendalefarm.net/redding.jpg He had ankle chips and ended up going to live with a family near Charleston - he gets to go for trail rides on the beach & otherwise just hang out and get spoiled (I should be so lucky)!

Dingle Bay's new owner still boards him with us. He needed colic surgery in February - she posted about the ordeal - but he pulled through & is a little pyranha again :)

Double Torsion sold almost right away & is being trained for the hunters - what a pretty and trusting girl!

Ray was with us until very recently. Man was he full of himself. He reminded us of a mob boss. After some time off he was sound & took to jumping immediately! He's with a student at Virginia Intermont now.

We just love getting to meet these amazing horses!

So good to hear that he lived out his remaining years with love and compassion. He was such a hard campaigner when I knew him and just the sweetest horse to be around/work around. Funny how all these racehorses and their worlds collide with the people who knew them and loved them!

I try to keep tabs on some of my favorite horses... I galloped a white horse named Greatsilverfleet in the mid 90's for four yrs, he was a stakes winner of over 600,000.00 He was co-owned with a guy from Cananda with a farm, last time I heard he was training to be an Event horse... just wondering if anyone has ever heard of him... He would be about 17 now, I'll have to pull up his chart to double check his correct age. What an awesome horse he was!

Yep....those are my uncle's initials!!!:D He taught me just about everything I know about horses. Even though my mom and dad (a former jockey) didn't want me anywhere near horses, uncle CH got me into them!!!!! Started going to the track with him when I was 5! Left the track when I was 18 to get an office job. It is a small world! I'm glad to hear TG is doing well. Thanks for letting me know what's going on with her!

Here's (http://www.rainbowridgeva.com/dannynmike.html) the website for Danny 'N Mike. The farm I saw him at must have sold him some time last year. Nice lookin' fella!

Would anyone out there know about my two guys -

Desert Bloomer - CA bred raced at Golden Gate, Bay Meadows and Emerald Downs

At The Ready - bred in Kentucky, last training at Emerald Downs

Any information would be great!!!

Don't know these two, but I checked on them at work:
At The Ready only had a couple of starts; Desert Bloomer won 8 races (if I remember correctly), and earned over 140,000...

Thank you so much for the updates! It is great to hear how well everyone is doing. They were all really nice horses. Dingle Bay was so sweet, and Ray definitely was one of those cool "warhorses" who really has a certain degree of smarts and class...I laughed at your description of him as a "mob boss" - totally fitting!

Thanks too for the photo of Red Label. He looks EXACTLY like my boy!

Hi Louise!
He is doing great, hanging out in the Bluegrass not doing a whole lot, lol. I have actually just started riding him, he did come with a chipped knee, so I gave him lots of time to get over that. He went from NY to AZ and from AZ to KY, lol, he has some miles on him!
Bless his trainer, one fantastic lady!!

He has earned his keep though, he models for me. :)

First of all Raging Cat, I groomed her when she had one eye, she was sent to Mountaineer to run on the grass, they moved the race to the dirt and she was hit with a bit of dirt or stone. She lost that eye also, I taught her to walk with confidence in her newly dark world. She was sold to become a broodmare in Maryland with a well known family. Last I heard she had a pony with a bell that is her devoted friend and is living well.

Alot Of Mary raced in WV, then was sent to Scott Lake where she won the claiming crown race in Minnesota, ended up winning over $250,000. I saw a filly of hers year before last at the Timonium sales
Perfect Bet WV may be currently still racing, would like to know how he is
Grooms Trouble WV came by his name honestly, injured my back and then
he was gelded, may still be racing
Be Like Julie WV I hope she is a broodmare now
CyperCash WV sold as broodmare
Friendly Frolic WV was supposedly given a good home then was sold at auction and ended up with someone in Maine, would love to know how he is
No No Romeo WV I took him and rehabbed him, brought him to Tidewater area when I moved and then found him a good home where he is learning to jump and give the most interesting trail rides
Knight Errant WV My sweet boy, rehabbed him, trail rode and taught him to jump, sold him to a very lovely young woman and her family, just tried to buy him back but sadly/gladly they love him too much
Fortunate Fellow Va whips horse that I owned for a short while went back to live with former owner
Mighty Leader WV retired, last I knew living with a family in Charles Town teaching the daughter how to ride a bucking horse
Compelling Person WV

More to come...

SMS- yes, I did, for about 2 1/2 years while I was in high school. It was a great experience. Unfortunately, I don't recognize anyone on your list.

17hTB- That's amazing, her face looks just like her mom's! If I were on the East Coast, I'd buy her in a heartbeat. $1400 is a steal for that mare! If only shipping were cheaper, I'd buy her anyway. It would be nice to have a horse to ride while my 2yo grows up!

Actually, it turns out I met this filly at CLF 11 years ago! Contrary Rose was there to be bred, and I can't find a subsequent foal by a CLF stallion, so she must be the foal I met! Now I may have to look into shipping... I bet it's quite a bit from Massachusetts to San Diego.

Murmadon is owned by one of my students and has turned out to be a wonderful event horse. We adopted Beyond the River from MAHR also and he turned out to be a super event horse. They have some lovely one's there!

I am retraining Flint Hills (by El Prado) for Canter Midatlantic and also a horse named General Forest at least that is what is says on his coggins but I couldn't find him anywhere.

Ones who've made it to my barn over the years:
Silent Professer 1983 Silent Dignity-Midwifery (Run for Nurse) -- evented at Prelim with me for over 12 years, now semi-retired at 24 but still going strong

Conerly's Secret -- by Chas Conerly -- ran cheap at Fort Erie, got him for almost nothing. sold on as a hunter. Last I heard he was being shown in the Ottawa area as "Brewmaster" but his barn name is still Connor, I believe!

After Finals 1995 -- aka Owen -- also sold him on as a hunter in the Toronto area, would really like to know how he's doing

Great Lady 1996 -- by El Prado out of a Bold Ruckus mare, ran at Woodbine and Fort Erie mostly. Got one foal out of her, still here, she's gray and a bit of a hellion, but SO athletic!

Tiempo Del Sol 1999 -- by Count the Time -- got him from the LongRun Adoption Society at Woodbine last year, would love to know more about his racing history. Chestnut, 15:3, no white, supposedly had starting gate issues but otherwise a sweetheart. He cribs a bit.

Karmatar - really cool ch. g. with chrome - ran in PA in the mid eighties

Singing Gold - ch. gelding no markings (80's PA)
Caesar's Nemesis - liver ch. g.(ran off with me so many times in PA)
Library III - unremarkable little bay gelding ( who dumped me with a well-timed dropped shoulder/wheel numerous times until I, being a rookie, realized the grooms were putting me on him to keep the barn in beer - I bought a case every time I fell off!?)
Weather Alert- grey almost white gelding- ran at Finger Lakes in the late 90's +
Bay Aspin- huge bay gelding - ran in the 80's
Tight Hold - little grey sweetheart gelding ran in the late 90's
Valley Mist - dark bay or brown colt - ran in the early 90's
Star Pass - dark bay or brown gelding by Amber Pass -cribbed a little; very sensible, nice mover
Shingus Sneak - bay gelding that I rode in a couple of hunt meets in the early 80's Maryland area
Impetious Dan chestnut gelding that I rode & got a fractured skull on at Winterthur in the 80's

Tex- I remember it being really funny b/c the I would say it was the mid-80's at Delaware Park and the announcer had a blast calling out his name. I am not sure how it was spelled but it sounded like that. He was a good racehorse.

I bought him for $500 and resold him to a lady in (I think) PA for her daughter to "retrain." I was happy to hear that he found a nice home with you. I do have several pictures of him. Let me go digging. I was the one who gave him his barn name as well. :)

He was dark bay, almost black, was started by Tim Grams at Charles Town and he said he was a beautiful mover. Hmmmm...most I can only recall their barn names now....

But let's see -

Sister S. (I only knew her after she was a broodmare - now deceased from colic right after foaling about 10 years ago)

Feetdontfailmenow ~ dark bay with a star, always reminded us of a mule with her long ears as a baby... was out of Sister S. (We called her Baby Doll around the farm - she was a big goofy youngster) Think she probably only ran at Blue Ribbon if she ever made it that far (I left shortly after we got her started)

Fast Time Lady - bright red mare ~ a WITCH at home and in the stall I still have a scar from her pinning me in her stall against the stall guard.

Double Avenger - my boy's sire, and he had to have been one of the sweetest stallions I ever met.

I am desperately seeking 3 older OTTBs, probably in the mid-Atlantic region. All three are out of Kissing Lizzie, by Cortan. They would be in their late teens or early 20s now.

Real Tan (mare)
Monster Tan (probably gelded)
Lizzie's Last Tan (also probably gelded)

Two other full siblings, Kiss My Tan and Kizzmatan, are deceased. I had Kizzy for 15 years, and she was the love of my life. I'd be deeply grateful for any leads on the (possibly) surviving three.

I know someone who recently rescued a Highland Park daughter from slaughter, so we e-mailed his owner to see if he was still around and learned that he had to be euthanized after a fractured shoulder in July 2003. It sounds like he had a good life though, on a lovely farm, until the end. His owner said he missed him very much.

Thanks cat... Why are some in bold and how do we know which ones people want info on? Great idea!

Because the people put them in bold and if I changed it all to plain text, it would be confusing in some cases...I just copied and pasted. I can "neaten it up" as we go along.

I put in info like "owned by" if I had it. In some cases, I didn't know from the post exactly what the person wanted. If just the screen name is there, they either want info or they just posted the name but either way, they know the horse.

I am actually working on something like this on a much grander scale and for all breeds...if anybody lives in the PNW and really knows web databases and wants to partner with me, get in touch. I've got the domain and the database roughed out in Access, but I need help translating that to the web.

What a cool thing you've done! It makes it so much easier to scan for horses you might recognize.
If we wanted to add to the list would we just add horses to the thread and *"poof!"* you can put them on the list? So much work...
Really appreciated.:)

Jun. 9, 2007, 11:14 PM
Sure, add to the thread and I'll update every evening or so. It's actually very easy, I just cut & paste and then re-sort the list and convert to HTML.

Can we start a standard way of listing though? Let's do the name and then the year of birth if known in parentheses, for example:

Rags to Riches (2004)

That would be good as these names do get re-used and it will clear up confusion if everybody knows which one you mean.

One thing I can do that may help - and other AQHA members can as well - we all get $10 in free searches every month, and we can look to see if the mares have any AQHA get. If they do, AQHA will also have a registered owner on them as of that foaling. I've found one of my old OTTB's this way.

I own Light the Day, by Native of Seattle out of Shinga. I seriously doubt he raced - he'd have to have taken a nap in the starting gate to get himself out of it!

He was bred by Mr & Mrs Henry H. Forstbauer and foaled in British Coumbia, Canada. He is a big (17.0 hand) bay gelding who is a sweetheart. He is currently showing in the 1st year greens and is probably going to be a junior or amateur horse. Great personality and very laid back.

Mega- I am pretty sure my guy is a 4 yr with the tatoo of G making him a 2003 model. His coggins don't have any markings on it but there is a tatoo #. I will have to do some more research.

Tex- I remember it being really funny b/c the I would say it was the mid-80's at Delaware Park and the announcer had a blast calling out his name. I am not sure how it was spelled but it sounded like that. He was a good racehorse.

Have you tried Forrest with two Rs? He's the famous Southern Cavalry general whose rule for war was "Get there firstest with the mostest."

I currently own a 1994 OTTB grey gelding, registered named "Sue the Wolf" by the South African sire "Wolf Power".

I would love to visit with anyone who would have been involved in his second career training after he came off the track. Because whoever was involved with his re-training did an EXCELLENT job! "Greyhorse", (his barn name) is a real joy to be around and to ride.

JustJump-

I did know JR was an event horse! I remember him being sold to eventer and saw him on Waters Edge's website a while after he sold.

I was one of the first people to take JR over a jump. Nearly jumped me STRAIGHT out of the tack! I also galloped him and schooled him over hurdles a few times. The most fun was when I got to turn him back into a show horse when he wasn't such a great race horse! He was a phenominal jumper (and I guess to go prelim, he's got to be pretty darn good). I always loved him, and he always had GREAT confidence over jumps! I can tell you many a story about him...like when we jumped an in-and-out with both my legs on one side of him because he popped me so far out of the saddle!

BTW-

Just got another new one in.

Accumulator (2004)

He was in Buddy Delp's barn for the Meyerhoff's until Buddy passed away this fall. He was then moved up to CT (Charles Town, not Connecticut), which is where the lady I ride for purchased him. He's a SUPER sweet heart! I know they bought him as a weanling, but if anyone remembers we'd like to know a bit more about him (as in how he was for galloping/riding).

JustJump250
Jun. 12, 2007, 04:45 PM
Sounds like he hasn't changed a bit! He still has the same owner-she's now over at Sunset Hills. He was quite the handful when she got him-he had one speed, which was GO. He's settled down to being just plain fun now  That horse definitly loves to run and jump-and can still jump a rider right out of the tack!

That's a great idea - and could very well help to give a horse a new home. I used to gallop a BIG TB - 17.2 as a 3 year old - named Colonial Stand. While I had him on my Stable Mail, I eventually lost track of him, until one day I just happened to check the Re-Run Ky site and there he was. I called them up, and was able to tell them all sorts of info about him, since I had known him since he was a foal. Being so big, and not very sound, he was rather hard to place, but one woman was a bit interested in him. They gave her my number, and for almost two hours I told her stories of "John Boy" and his antics, and even emailed her a few pics of him. She later told me that had she not spoken with me, she would've never adopted him.

The last I heard, he is living the life of Riley in Mass.

This is why I ALWAYS try and locate "my" babies.

Freebird, that's a great story. I really think it's incredibly important to improve our networking in the horse community to where people can get the information they need about horses, and former owners/breeders can have the opportunity to continue to be involved in ensuring the horse has a good home. I think most people want to be able to do this, but there just hasn't been a good way to keep tabs on horses.

Maybe we could/should email this list to Re-Run and CANTER reps?

I'd LOVE to one day see a website that helped to reunite horses to their previous owners, breeders, trainers and grooms.

Of all the TB"s that I galloped, groomed and broke, Minority Stock was my favorite. I tried for years to track him down, but I hit a dead end when his last trainer told me he didn't remember who he sold him to. I still think about him, and wonder where he is, and if my "Cisco" is OK.

I don't have it, sorry. I am looking to find out more about this horse

http://inlinethumb13.webshots.com/6412/2165366340100357206S600x600Q85.jpg

I bought him in 1985 from Judy Young at Even Keel farm in Fl he was a grand prix horse bought to be my junior jumper. His name when we got him was
O'Brother . Back then his past wasnt important to me and I never looked into his papers He did have a tat starting with the letter B it ended in a zero..the rest was terribley faded.

He was chestnunt with two white socks on the left side. He also had a scar running down the inside of his right hide leg from groin to fetlock.

I just am hoping someone somewhere recognizes him...he pased away in 2000 at 28 if we had his age right. He ment so much to me I wish I knew everything about him.

Big Becker was also neglected and abandoned at our barn. Earned $326K out of 73 starts. His breeder won an Iroquois Award in 2001 for him winning the $40,000 St. Patrick’s Day Stakes, $40,000 Batter Up Handicap and $40,000 Born to Run Handicap at Charles Town. Now safe (and sound! :))

That's amazing, I remember Big Becker running! How did he get up to NJ and become abandoned? Thank God for you! Let me try and rummage around some and find out about the woman and her husband that had him when he was doing his best.

Cool, that would be great! I got his race history but lost it during a computer switchover, and I can't remember any names. His story is interesting in a what-happens-to-them kind of way, especially a horse that someone once paid $100K for. Becker was at Phila Park, retired and given to a guy named Brian, a farrier there. Brian had $ issues, lived near my barn, and made a deal with the BO for the BO's daughter to ride Becker for 1/2 board and full care. This is a TB that was on the track for 8 years being given to a 11 yr old girl who has NO IDEA how to ride, with no down time or retraining. Great, huh?

So, they go out on a trail ride, with all western tack. Girl comes back walking and crying, sans horse. BO gets on Becker a month later, goes on a trial ride, tries to make him stand still, and Becker goes over backwards onto BO. Brian stops coming around and has never paid board. BO washes his hands of Becker. His weight drops over the next 4 months, his feet look like he's got wings on them, he gets terrible rain rot and he's shivering like crazy in Oct. Brian's phone won't take any more messages. I get fed up and tell the BO that I can take over his care but can't pay board. It's that or animal control might see him and cause trouble for the BO. BO agrees, and I go out and buy Becker a comfy WeatherBeeta and get the vet over ASAP to float his teeth, vaccinate and microchip. And then he's mine.

I own:

Rightfully So (Native Factor X Lulu's Right), 1999 Ch Gelding

Rightfully So, a.k.a. Jasper, raced a few times as a 2 year old and 3 year old in Michigan and West Virginia. I bought him as a 3 year old and did some training level dressage with him, but he's got some fairly serious arthritis so we gave that up. Now he's working on being a very good trail horse. He was my first horse, bought at age 30 (me, not him, obviously!), having wanted one desperately since age 9. He is much loved and has a forever home with me. :D

Raw General is with the TRF, he was also at Suffolk.

Two Shakes is with the TRF in VA and is a really sweet horse. He had been adopted out and was returned becuase the adopter was having some financial issues.

If you want info on how to check on any of these horses, PM me.

Had these in the 80s

Me Ivan (started him)
Carry Back's Gift (got him for free, resold him as an eventer)
Kopex (she was a layup in my barn for a few months)
Free Info (paid $500 for him, tried to turn him into an eventer, sold to a dressage rider)
Double Rose (sold to a hunter rider)

Cherry Hill (he's got to be dead by now, he was a grand old man when I knew him 20 years ago!)

Bought these two at Great Barrington in 1997-

Murphy's Time (Back with her breeder in Texas now!)
Docquickfixmynose (sold to a backyard in western Mass.)

Obtained through the COTH giveaway board -

Aggressive Brass (still in my barn - I love my Spud!)

There are many more, but I can't remember them all. I did layups for a trainer from Rockingham during the 80s.

Hi Calamber,
Thanks for yourkind words about Sweetener & baby. Yes, the foal is by my Welsh pony stallion! She was born June 19th. I named her Crystal Acres Lucky Star(AKA Lucy) because of her dam's hard luck story. Lucky for her, a wonderful volunteer from CANTER cared enough to save her. Lucky for me...I am lucky enough to have adopted her.

Guys, Slew City Slew is standing at stud in Kentucky for 6 grand a pop and is considered the absolute best value out there for breed to race. He's got a very enviable record and can be found in both the TB Times stallion register and the BloodHorse Stallion register.

If this has already been posted, I'm sorry to repeat.

Another one to add:

Lillie Darwin, 1978 Chesnut mare, By Fara be Quick, out of Darwin Miss by Misty Fight . She was bred in PA by Lillian Chance (I think - need to double check).

I know she raced for 3 years, winning once at Keystone in PA at 3 and getting a few other places and shows. I got her when she was 6 and used her for hunters, combined training, trail riding, dressage, and pleasure and combined driving. She also had 3 foals, of which I still have 1, a full TB, Mist in Flight - unraced.

She was a neat mare and I owned her for 20 years, though she was on lease teaching and being loved by another person her last 3 years.

I'd like to add another two to the list:

Evora, 7 yr old gray Alphabet Soup mare that was on my short list at one of the October mixed sales at OBS (fall 2003 or Jan 04, can't remember right now). She was purchased by a trainer and ran at Calder, unsuccessfully, and then I quit getting stable mail on her. Love to know where she is. She was a beautiful mare!

Peace Not War, 5 yr old bay Pentelicus mare, also saw at OBS around the same time Evora was sold there. She made a few starts at Calder, ran poorly, and that was it. She was on the small side, but was well put together and looked like she would have made a pretty hunter.

Also, need to make a change. My 19yr old Big Spruce mare, Amongtheroses, was euthanized last month. She broke her leg in the pasture. Would still like to know if anyone knew her when she ran at Tampa Bay Downs back in the late 80s early 90s.
