Correction--the Royal Tiff I knew was a chestnut colt (son of Royal Battle). This would have been late 60's early 70's.
Name may have been reused, as he never raced--was euthanized after being diagnosed as a wobbler.
(I was crushed--I was in love with him. He was a very people-oriented colt)

Can I add my two?
Basque Fantasee (1990) by Bounding Basque (Ky bred)
Arc Tangent (aka Cash) 1994 by Key to the Arc (CO bred)
Also met Worldly Manner last year, raced in 1999 (I think) Kentucky Derby, now stands in OK.
Gooseberry (1998), almost bought him at Arapahoe Park in CO, understand he was
sold to a hunter/jumper barn in the area.

Can I ad my guy?
I have Famously Free I recieved him from the giveaway here. I sure would love to get in contact with previous owners of him to let them know he is as close to 100% as any other horse of his age can get. Right now he is living life of a king in my back yard with his 2 'girl firends' and his pet llama.

WoodsEdge- No the Altair I know/knew was a 16.1-ish blk/br gelding, I'm unsure of his pedigree, but used to be Sean McQuillan's big event horse.

I have to mention my girl Lots of Slots who is now jumping under Sycamores Poison Ivy. She is 18 years old and looks about 10. I know she was born in Conn and raced 7 times. I have a friend who just moved her horse into our barn. He is called Fleet and he was retired from Suffolk Downs last fall. He is a big 7 year old chestnut.

Sep. 3, 2007, 10:16 PM
Any Michigan racing folks may recognize my guy from the 90's. He raced quite a bit, and while he didn't win much he had a few placings.
JC Name: Mr. Sockdolager
Sire: De Jeau (Private Thoughts x Christi Deddle (Rattle Dancer))
Dam: Napeeville (Knight Counter x Knight Mama (Fearless Knight))
He was bred by Kathleen Howe here in Michigan in 1990. Trained by L. Paul Winters and then Shane Spiess. Had several jockeys but David C. Neusch rode him the most. I had contacted Mrs. Howe when I first got him and she kindly sent me baby pictures, and pictures of his mom (who he is a spitting image of), but I would love to speak with anyone that trained/raced him. He's a very unique horse with a fun personality.

On of my good friends owns Dr. Brendler who he is retraining into a fox-hunter.
His daughter is a race trainer on the east coast so they know all the big names that I don't. :) My neighbor and good friend is also a race trainer but I won't list all her horses she has.
Years ago I had a friend who had an exracer named Under My Wheels. I always thought that was a funny name. We just called him Big-Head Ted.

I really wonder if anyone ever knew my boy while he was a racer. The racing records are like reading latin, so I'm not sure where he raced the 13 times he did. He was born in KY and then somehow made his way to TX. I've had him since 2003 and he's going to be with me for the rest of his life! Lucky guy!
I don't remember all the names of the ones I've helped start new lifes after the racetrack, but one mare I REALLY liked who was an amazing jumper, I wonder what happened to her. Alic from Dallas was her name.

I worked for Ackerley Brothers Farm in the late 90's and early 2000's. I often wondered what happened to:
Bus Driver (1997 b. c. by All Gone)
Overdone (1997 dkb/br g. by Well Decorated) - he was claimed and still appeared to be running last year
Valid Andy (1995 c. or g. by Valid Appeal)
Hong Kong Henry (1995 c. or g. by Ramplett)
Compendium (1998 c. by Notebook)
Term Sheet (1998 c. by Concern)
Parlay (1994 m. by Mt. Livermore)
I know that these horses are now in the midst of breeding careers, but wondered if anyone has seen them or their babies recently:
Swearingen (1994 m. by Deposit Ticket)
Little Sister (1994 m. by Valid Appeal)
Jersey Girl (1995 m. by Valid Appeal)
Miss Linda (ARG) (1997 m.)
Major Wager (1998 m. by Valid Wager)
And the stallions:
Valid Expectations (1993 h. by Valid Appeal)
Littleexpectations (1997 h. by Valid Appeal)
Babyexpectations (1998 h. by Valid Appeal)
Snuck In (1997 h. by Montbrook)
And on the other hand, I now own:
It's Always True (1998 dkb/br g. by Is It True). I know he ran in IN, MI, and OH before he retired. Does anyone remember him?

Piccolittle- I did know she was son on as an eventer. I know most of her history (old friend from high school bought her when we rode together). I know Alden's mom, half-sister, and half-brother (Champion Timber horse Ironfist).
My friend got her as a 3 y/o from the breeder (Gordie Keys, his daughter owned the barn we rode at). I believe she sold her at 6/7 to a local eventer/dressage trainer when she wasn't into boys more than horses. I pretty much know most of her early history if you know the person who bought her or know her at all.

Haven't met any of those, but wondering if anyone has worked with my horse's sire, Bounding Basque (now deceased--raced in the mid 80's) or any
of his progeny?
And a horse named Fort Metfield that was still racing several years ago--
gorgeous horse! Saw him at Lone Star and he took my breath away that day.
I galloped a very sweet Bounding Basque about 10 years ago. The bar on my stirrup was down and as I was working him up the lane it flew off. I hung under his neck for an eighth and have always had a soft spot for him since he didn't step on me when I finally let go. He even stopped!

His two wins were 10/4/92 at Fairplex Park, race #3, and 2/3/94 at Golden Gate, race #6. I don't know if the track photographers for either track would have archived photos that old, but it's where I'd start.

Fairweather --- Is Clever Ma a great big chestnut gelding that was bred and raced by the Koski's in Charles Town? If so, I used to help Mr. Koski with that horse because he had gotten the habit of running out of his stall, someone apparently let him hit his hip on the door and it was frightening to watch the Mr. try to handle a horse who was well on his way to 17H at 3 years old and he (Mr. Koski) was an older gentleman and not that fast on his feet. What a beautiful animal!

I've had a few!
Trak Knak - 1979 light bay gelding by Prince Khal-ran out of Persian Amber. Came off the track and bought as a 5 year old and became my 4H horse. Ran mostly at Longacres racetrack. Died of colic in 1989.
Crafty Lightning - 1988 dark bay gelding by Crafty Native out of Kick up a Storm. Had one win at Portland Meadows - raced a lot there and at Longacres and Yakima. Canadian-bred. Bought as a 4 year old right off the track and became a great low-level dressage horse and jumper. Still going strong in my pasture at 19 years old!
Space Slam - 1995 17.2+h dark bay gelding by Skywalker out of Time for a Slam. Slam was a $100,000 yearling out of Keensland who fractured his sesamoid in race training and never raced. He spent a year in a stall and was eventually given to the owner of the layup stable he was at. She resold him as a dressage horse and he and I have competed up to 2nd level dressage. He is showing some signs of arthritis in that leg now but still quite ridable. He is a super horse that has an amazing work ethic and personality...love him.
We've also had many TBs come through our rescue - Final Flurry, Intercat, and I currently have "He is Indeed" in my pasture, an 11 year old gelding by Alydeed who was recently surrendered to us. He raced for 9 years and has quite a few injuries to show for it, but is sound for light riding.
I also have one beautiful 18 year old TB mare that was a rescue that I kept. I called to trace her tattoo but couldn't get an exact match. I am debating taking the next step and submitting photos to TRPB.

Larry's Lassie. A little mare I rescued here in Ohio in April. She raced Finger Lakes, was a NY Bred, and I have traced her to her original breeder, owner and trainer with no luck. Number one question I have, how did she sustain such horrific injuries between racing and ending up where I found her? Any help would be awesome. She knows the name Midnight, and she is a 16 year old Bay.

I had the privilege of owning the above named horse from 1996-1998. He was bred in New York and is by Titanic and out of Sky Chat (by Chati). He started his racing career at Belmont a little later than most, probably because he was so big (he was 17 hands), but we purchased him at Mountaineer in West Virginia. He didn't live up to name as a race horse, as he finished 30+ lengths behind in most of his early starts at Belmont, and was running in 3500 claimers at Mountaineer when we found him.
We changed his show name to A2/C Riley when I purchased him to become my next event horse (my dad was in the airforce, hence the Airman 2nd Class). He became an EXCEPTIONAL eventer, and I had great fun with him. Here's a link to a picture:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/glfprncs/1681861701/
I sold him in late 1998 to a girl in Illinois, who then sold/gave him away to a hunter/jumper barn in St. Louis, Missourri. Don't know where he is now at the ripe age of 18.

Yup! Actually had one of the new owners of a horse we got off the track PM me. We sold him to a trainer in VA, who in turn sold him to another person. That person contacted me and I filled her in on his history.
I've also had several other "new owners" contact me about some of the hroses that I have on the list.
I know the history on all mine, so I've just been giving history to those that now have them :)

I'll add my new project - Sea Journey (Storm Day x Red Journey), a/k/a Toucan, because he MUST stick his big nose into everything he can reach. He is very, very cool, to say the least. He only raced a couple of times, as a 2 year old (he's 4), in Florida.

Through COTH, a very nice person did a story on my horse Grady... she was contacted by the people that had bought him as a yearling and raced him during his early years. (He ran for 9 yrs)... through her they contacted me, as they had lost touch with him and were very concerned about his well being.
They are supposed to fly in from Texas to visit him this summer, as a surprise from the wife, to her husband Grady!
I just loved finding out who my boy was named after!

Jun. 27, 2008, 11:26 PM
I sure did. I rode him a bunch, mostly with a Dessage saddle. Had to watch I didn't point him in the direction of a jump, or we would be going over it. He was really cool. Did you know any of the other Coby horses?
When were you at SUNY Cobleskill? I was there 2003-2005 finished up my 4 year degree there. I LOVED Bill, he was an awesome ride! We had a bunch of the NY Breds there for foaling out.

I owned a OTTB named Hot Time for a few years, he was foaled in Washington in 1988. He was the cutest little daisycutter but he was very sensitive. Sweet and willing to please, he just got nervous easy. He was too much for the lady I sold him to and she donated him to a college riding program to be a dressage horse. Can't for the life of me remember which college. I'd love to know what happened to him.

Just for giggles, I'd like to add HRH Avery (reg. name Beano's True Level) and my first-ever OTTB, Opening Night (reg. name Good-oh) to the list. I know Rusty Stirrup has connections w/ Good-oh's connections, we've chatted off-forum, but would loff to meet any others!
And if anyone owns/knows of any relatives of Beano's True Level, *please* let me know!

I currently own:
Misty Smile ('96 bay mare by Smile)
Dulce Amante ('01 bay mare by El Amante)
Winningthesilver ('03 grey gelding by Silver Ghost)
I had from '99 to '03:
Playful Playboy ('89 bay gelding by Pass the Glass)
Would love to hear from anyone who knew him on the track, I think he had quite a few starts at either Longacres or Emerald Downs (can't remember which it was back then.)
Also, if anyone knows a horse in NM named Iza Righteous Dude... He's an '01 bay gelding... I saw him at a sale in CA and contacted the guy who bought him and told him I'd like to buy him when he was done racing.... lost track of owner. I think he's retired now, seems like his last race was in 07. He was a stunning yearling.

I'm so sorry to hear about Apolda. I really liked her. She was very opinionated...
Were you at H'n'D long? I used to be right across the street at Vinery - My husband was the farm manager - feels like another lifetime at this point!
And A.P. Slew is a cool horse. He was still intact at 8. running for $3500 at Penn National. A 3 legged lame, 8 year old intact horse would have had NO shot at being purchased by anyone other than a kill buyer. He's now a gelding and settling into his new life. The Kentucky Equine Humane Center actually took him in at first but he needed more time to let down than they were in a position to give him so Michael Blowen agreed to take him. The RACE Fund donated some funding, a super nice guy from the Penn area took the horse in until he could get to KY and Michael Paulson was thrilled that the horse was safe. Good all around.

Funny how some mares change when they become broodmares :) Estrapade was also in the barn at the same time, and one of the foal watch attendants had worked with her as a racehorse. She commented that she was a tough filly that would like to prop during her works. And while not the lovey-dovey type, she was easy enough to deal with. And she was still a tough cookie, in the fact that she had survived West Nile the year before, considering she was 23 at the time! It's too bad she never got to enjoy the retirement she deserved from the broodmare ranks.
I wasn't at H'n'D that long, just a few months during foaling/breeding season, as an internship for school. I got to Vinery once with a mare to be bred :D

DO NOT CONTACT the SPCA unless you legitimately OWN a horse that was boarded there. I'm seeing many people wondering about this horse and that horse- realize there is a case going on and many horses to worry about. If you own a horse, you'll be contacted I am quite sure. Please add my 2 boys.
Trevelyan, 1996 b.g. (Allen's Prospect x Adotahoney)
Red Wrecker 2001 ch.g. (Explosive Red x Crafty Marian)
And my girl.
Annie Mactagish, 1994 b.m. (Tagish x Belledelaire)
Amazingly, the 1996 horse was given up by the original owner, who never gave him a name, but kept his papers. Success story, I FINALLY last year was able to get him officially named through the JC. They were wonderful!

Driving Miss Rosie: I rode this horse this morning for a client
Tahaha: was owned by Chapdelaine

Sam's Beep Beep: In training to be a hunter. I think Jenarby has his full brother, Beep and Go
Sorry it took me so long to see this! Beeper was sold I think about a year ago to a young girl near Cleveland. He's been learning a little dressage and actually is now in need of a new home. The little girl has RA and won't be able to ride him anymore. So if anyone is interested let me know. I feel so bad for her, she adores him!

Starting with my first Children's Hunter from 1978, from there I have listed TB's that I have shown, ridden for others, including race horses fitting up after layups. The list is what I can remember at this time from horses I got off the track up to stallions and mares and their many many offspring we have raised, broke and sold for racing/showing. Unfortunately I cannot remember them all. So many of the younguns didn't get named until after we had them. If I gave it more time and thought I'm sure the list would double. I have dealt with many other breeds over the years but my heart will always be with a TB.

I owned a half-sister to your Crosslake Shells -- her name was Crosslake Breeze (1987) and she was by Dr. Zent out of Clemmy's Ambition. She had a nice partbred Cleveland Bay colt for me whom I hunted and he is now hunting in New England. After eventing training level and having the foal, Breezy began hunting herself for several years and then I understand she had an injury or serious illness and either passed away or was euthanized. She had a great personality and was a very un-thoroughbred mare!

I think most of you know by now that the idea started with this list has spun off into a website, but if not, it's in my sig line.
I would transfer the data I already have, but all I have from most of you is your COTH screen name and that is not enough to locate you in the real world if someone has one of the horses you are seeking.
Since we do have the web site now, I am not adding anything further to the list, but the original list is at http://www.pretzelkitty.com/cothlist.html if anybody wants to grab it and maintain it themselves or x-post it - I have no problem with that. Anything that helps a horse get home safely is good with me!

Did Key To The Mint have a sex change when I wasn't paying attention? He was the sire of Ten Cents A Kiss who was Corporate Report's dam. Counterfeit Money was by KTTM and out of Con Game (um by Buckpasser I think?) who was also the dam of Seeking The Gold and Fast Play.

Reality's Gem (Gembo, Gemberoni)
Last One Up (Louie)
Spectacularly Pink (by the one and only Bid; gray stud)

I remember him!! Very handsome!!!! And seemed to be a sweet kind horse if I remember correctly. Although I saw him for sale on another board, hopefully he finds his "person"

Anyone ever heard of Marcy's Emperor? I rehabed him and then gave him to a woman from sw Va. who may have turned out to be somewhat questionable, website, email disappeared no phone calls returned. He was given to me as a racehorse with the promise that he'd get a good retirement. I 've always worried about him.

Owned Encompass (grey gelding) back in 'early 90's - He was trained to 3rd level dressage, then left to starve. I bought him and got him back in shape, then sold him as I'm a trail rider at heart. Last I heard he was in GA, though I doubt he's still alive as he'd be 31...
A good friend still has Almost Broke 24 years after she got him off the track. He's still not quite broke and full of vim and vinegar

Festive Fashion has no listed Jockey Club foals through 2006 (my APR goes to 2006). She ran 14 times with 1 third, earning $383.
Timely Eagle has no jockey club foals thru 2009. She ran 4 times and earned $0.

Hi Jessi,
"Snowman" is doing well. After his stall rest from having a bone chip removed from his knee early this year, he developed a problem with a "loose" stifle. After estrone therapy and an internal blister, he is doing well. I am enjoying the "do hill work" part of the therapy, which means we trail ride a lot. Snowman likes it too, and I am thinking about trying fox hunting next season with him. Hilltopping, of course! I really do enjoy Snowman, except for when he comes in covered in mud, and that's even with a turnout blanket!
I am the worst about taking pictures, which is to say, I never take pictures. I'll try to get some over Christmas break, maybe I'll even bathe him beforehand! Don't worry, we have a heated wash stall :)
My sister owns Native Star, who is a spry coming 22 year old, though I know she looks at the CANTER site from time to time. I think it is porn for equestrians! Even though you have one (or more!) at home, you still want to look and see what you *could* have!
I hope you are doing well and best wishes for a Merry Christmas!

Hey Cookiepony -
I never realized that Taco is bred very similarly to my Diamond (shown as Northlight) Notice they both are by stallions that go to the mare Sister Shannon (Temerance hill is a half brother to the dam of Vanlandingham, Diamonds sire) and they both bring in No Robery and Best Turn
So I'll add another

I really know nothing about the two OTTBs I've owned beyond their JC names and tattoos:
Swinging Romeo: 2000 grey 15.3-16 H colt, foaled in Ocala. He somehow ended up on the West Coast (Golden Gate, maybe) before heading up to Idaho where I found him as a 4-year-old.
Sir William Lewis: 1994 bay 16.2 H, New York-bred (Regency Farm, I think). Apparently won once, don't know where. Bought him as an 11-year-old as an event prospect through my trainer at the time. Jumping is easy as breathing for him and I still have people ask me if he is Irish (big, raw-boned beastie he is).
If anyone recognizes either of these two, I would love more info.

This is such a great thread. I'd love to see if any one knows any more information about my guy, who is sadly no longer with us. Didn't do much on the track but he was a once-in-a-lifetime horse and I'd love to connect with anyone who knew him.
Inquiring Minos- 1985, FL bred, Long Island TB, Inc. Ran at Philly, Del, and Garden State. Owned by Candy Cane Stables and trained by Joseph J. Graci, III. His one and only win was on 10-5-89 at Philly.
FLIPPED HER HALO
Dec. 15, 2009, 01:25 PM
I have a few of mine to add:
Bold Thou Art 1988 bay gelding, CalBred at Cardiff, 16.1 hands by Hail Bold King out of Devi. No good on the track but has been a good show horse. Currently babysitting my yearlings.
Show Me The Man 1997 bay gelding, CalBred at Applebite, 17h by Mangaki out of Shorouk. DECEASED 2001  LOVED this boy! He broke his shoulder in a freak pasture accident 2 weeks after going to his first show and jumping his first course and winning ribbons. I've never gotten over this boy.
Lypheor Castle 1991 dark bay/br gelding, CalBred, 17.2h by Vernon Castly out of Maui Lypheor, stakes winner of $293,828. 3rd: Foster City H. -L ($8,438, Bm) $53,236; Vinehill Ranch H. (O) ($5,250, Bm) $35,315; 3rd Sunnyvale H. (O) ($5,250, Bm) $34,405. 77 Starts: 8 - 10 - 18, $293,828 He was still racing at the age of 10 when I picked him up at Golden Gate Fields. I retrained him in dressage and since he has gone on to be a trail horse.
Flipped Her Halo 2001 bay mare, born in Kentucky and bred by Josephine Gleis, 16.2h by Fly Till Dawn out of Elena's Halo. She was in training at Hollywood Park and didn't want to be a stakes winner like her parents. She has been retrained as a hunter and had her first warmblood foal in 2008.
I've "met" plenty others, but these are the ones I've actually owned.

Well only known/handled two North American tbs.
Stormy Flyer: storm bird x alygator 1996 chestnut mare
She was imported to Australia a couple years ago. Lovely girl, puts everything into her foals and arrived to farm skin and bones with a massive colt at side. Now running around 100 acres fat and sassy! :D
Would love to hear anything about her while she was still in the States.
Mathew's Keep: 1983(or so not sure) grey stallion. Stood at Olds College for about 10 yrs before retiring... taught many many students about stallion handling ( the good the bad and the ugly on stallion handling).
If you want any info on Australian ( and to a point New Zealand) horses i can list many. Will mention My Madonna who is owned by my bosses and is 3 time winner of SOuth Australia Broodmare of the year.
Will list "my" aussi horses if ya want :D

I'd like to add one more: Soul's Comet - dark brown/bay mare.
This mare was rescued from a slaughter auction and was very afraid of people when she arrived at our barn. She would rear and flip over in the cross-ties, and hated to be touched. After a few months of TLC, she has turned into one of the sweetest horses I know and I wish I could add her to my little herd.
ETA, I believe she raced in California.

Thought you would all get a kick out of this..
when I was a kid my dad dabbled in racehorses. He had a mare that I *thought* was named Verde Queen. Mapleshade and I were chatting one night while I was driving and she looked her up for me.. and yes, there she was!!! A 35+ year old vague memory made real.

TBCOLLECTOR, I am looking for information on Fire top 1985. He may be deceased but I knew him approx. 2001. He is a sire of a gelding arabian crioss. His new owner is trying tto get Fire tops registration number. He is an endurance horse and doing very well. I know Fire top was bred in England and was a steeplechaser. Any infromation would be greatly appreciated.

Here's some of the names I can remember from the spring I spent at a TB breeding/layup barn in Illinois. Adrienne would know much more about them since she managed the place for several years. He certainly could have been, but I doubt that it was the Gastown I knew (running in cheap Fort Erie claimers in the past few years).
Speaking of cheap Fort Erie claimers....you may have known my current horse....Mr Hobo Joe?

Ran in California. Delware and Philly.
CONGOMAMBO-1999 Bay Gelding (Kingmambo-Lubicon)-Owned by Live
Oak Plantation for 4 years and raced in Florida. Before being sold and raced in Charlestown. Pulled out ofslaughter pen in November 2005.

Wow this is a cool thread :)
Interested to see if any Penn National people remember my old boy...
Baby Bea Quick - by Quicksilver out of Bea Baby, born 1992, bred by Land of Believe Farm, 16.2 hh dappled gray... I think raced at Penn National his entire career, bought off the track in the late 90's, maybe 1998/9... was a pretty awful racer, won once I think.

Here's some of the names I can remember from the spring I spent at a TB breeding/layup barn in Illinois. Adrienne would know much more about them since she managed the place for several years. I'd love to hear where they came from/where they ended up if anyone knows. The owner of the farm passed away last fall, so they could be anywhere.. anywhere. I've bolded the ones I'm really interested in...
.....
Sabona - 1982 bay stallion, probably deceased?
I have a Sabona son - Someone on this board was working at the farm where Sabona was standing back in 2006 (Sabona was 25 then) .... Did some digging and it was CoTHer "abrant". Maybe get in touch with her and see what she can tell you? :)

I would like to add my 21 year old Tb mare, Lots of Slots by Bet Big. I bought her 17 years ago and I know she raced 7 times but I am not sure where. She then led a full life, hunter, jumper, some dressage and eventing. Jumping was her love till a near fatal injury last year. I was thinking till then she would never retire. She is retired now but the other day I walked her by the ring and she tried to lead me in, LOL. She has earned her retirement and I hope it is a long one.
