View Full Version : GVF cam- UPDATE- 5/11 anytime now!

5/11 a.m. I am still waiting on ms Hailey. We had vet out last night when we though she was going. Nope... Vet checked and said cervix is soft and could be 15 mins, could be 24 hrs. She though she would go within a few hours. Here it is morning, and still no foal. She is dripping and streaming milk. She had last years foal around 7am, so maybe she will have a late morning foal. I am basically stuck here until she has it!! She has been up & down, flagging tail, pawing, little poop/pee, and as we know.. completely uncomfortable. The vet is on ALERT to come immediately (hence the call last night when she was down slab sided grunting -ARRGG.). We are just waiting for water to break. Ok Hailey, this game is starting to get old and boring to me!!
5/9**UPDATE** Hailey is dripping milk and sweating on her back. Did not touch grain this evening. Vet has been called and is ready to come. Think foal should be here before midnight the rate sh is progressing.**
Hailey is getting close. She has a full bag and wax. Milk is still clear, but very sticky.
She is in at night and out during the day. When she starts dripping we will keep her in until foaling.
cam: http://www.marestare.com/goldenventure.htm
I am very worried about her and how big she is. Twins were ruled out. She is small and the stallion was very tall. Vet will be called when she starts foaling.

Hailey is 14 hands... just a little thing. She is a belly with legs right now. LOL I am proud of this little mare. She is my Fav by far. I bred her and pulled her out of her momma!! Got her approved MMB OLD and was so thrilled she made it in, considering her height.
She is in foal to Stedinger....and we have been WAITING and WAITING for this foal to arrive all year!!!!

Watching you guys Tawna. She seems so genuinely happy to have you in her stall, scritching away. :)
She is about the cutest thing on four legs!! Such presence...expecially with that belly

yes, she is a TRUE love bug. Would have me itching her 24/7 if she could!!
Anyone who is an insomniac can help foal watch with me... I am alone on watch and can't keep my eyes open all night - need to catch some sleep here & there. ;)

Tawna!:eek::eek::eek: Stedinger is SEVENTEEN HANDS!
OMG, I am on pins and needles for you now.........I had no idea! He's three whopping hands bigger then her!:eek::eek::eek:
Tawna24
May. 6, 2007, 08:55 PM
Yes, I know. She has had 4 foals by Max who is about 16.2 and medium boned. Actually Stedinger is much lighter boned than Max. so hoping foal is just going to be TALL, not heavy built (for shoulders to clear- that is the biggest concern- we will be ready to help pull with this one though!) She has had 7 foals total. We discussed this at length before deciding (my Vet, Judy yancy who suggested him, etc..) All say the mare controls the size of the foal.
We know how big she is, vet is on alert to come as SOON as she starts foaling. Her clinic is 5 mins away if something bad starts happening. I will not hesitate to thow her on the trailer immediatly should something look wrong.
Twins were ruled out.

Tawna,
I didn't mean to insinuate that you didn't think this through with the way my post was worded, isn't wasn't meant to be in that way. Just that she's carrying a WHOPPER of a foal! :D
Prayers for a safe foaling!

Anyone has a cam on her?
I'm at work and I can't see her. I kept watch on her last night (while doing taxes-fun!) and she was unconfortable but she also slept a bit.
Just curious!

My mare was HUGE as well a few years ago. So big that we were worried about twins as well. At 7 months along she looked like she was going to burst any day. At 9 months she pretty much completely lost the ability to canter and quite often would actually FALL DOWN. I slept in the barn for 3 WEEKS for fear that I might miss her.
She was only 15'2 at the time and bred to Don Schufro who is really big too.
At day 339 she dropped a very normal size filly. Nothing looked out of order really. So might be nothing to worry about.

Tawna- when was your mare bred? I have a mare due in the next week and I thought my mare was big. Your mare puts mine to shame. My mare was at the breeders on June 5- June 8 so I am trying to narrow down the foaling date.
Tawna24
May. 7, 2007, 03:16 PM
Hailey was bred June 25th. She always foals around day 320 or so- with her earliest foaling at 311. So she is in her "time frame" now. It's just a waiting game with all systems go at this point. :)

I watched for quite awhile last night. She geared up a few times, looked really promising... then delivered large, lovely, steaming piles everytime! :) Cleaning out for the big event I suppose.

I don't know much about foaling and foals, but it looks like maybe something is wrong with this foal, especially hind legs or right hind leg? He doesn't seem to be able to walk or use his hind legs correctly. Or is this just my imagination and all foals look like that to start with?
ChocoMare
May. 13, 2007, 08:17 PM
I think there may be a problem with his right hind in particular. Praying that it's just a case of long-legs and he'll grow into them!
rebecca yount
May. 13, 2007, 08:24 PM
Uh, no, I am going to answer myself. There clearly looks to be something very wrong with all four legs, or some sort of neurological issue, or something. The foal is not able to walk correctly and the right hind knuckles over at the fetlock. The left front also looks as if the foal is having trouble bending the knee, and the hind legs don't look to be working correctly. It appears that a veterinarian is there now. Does anyone who knows more than I do have any insight? It just doesn't look right at all. Maybe someone connected with the farm could give an update? Since the farm has decided to leave the camera on, could someone tell us what might be (or is) going on? Thank you.

This is what was posted earlier on MS-FYI
His tendons are a little contracted, so it is taking him a while to figure out his feet. His front legs are much better, but he still needs to unfold. Vet is coming around noon for his check up .
second post
hey guys! yes, the vet cam for his check up and he got his shots and blood drawn. TRIED to give him milk to raise antibodies and TRIED to do an iv drip to help with his tendons. Vet is coming back out at 6 to see if he has helped himself any. We think maybe his antibodies are down because he was so late to nurse.
Waiting for latest.

I've been watching him for about an hour this morning. He's much more feisty and has been up/moving for much longer periods of time. Hailey is doing her job to keep him moving too! So much so that the last time she nudge him, he tried to buck! He's got spirit

I watched this little on e a lot yesterday. I am not certain, but would guess that he got plasma when the vet was there around 7PM. He certainly looks stronger and has better balance today. His legs were less of a concern to me than his weakness. They have time to address any crookedness. I am jingling like mad that all goes well.

I have watched this a lot and saw this baby being born. This baby is so cute. I am wishing him the very best. Right now the camera is not acting right at 10:20 am EST. I will try to tune in later. Hope today is a great day for all of them.:)

Hi! Baby is doing better, but still has a ways to go. Last night he was given plasma, then an iv to help bring his tendons down (rebecca yount--his two worst tendons are his back right and left front, so that is why he is having trouble on them). Everyone here is very optimistic including the vet, and he should be fine :D. Hopefully this is just a bump in the road :D :D.

Update from Tawna-- Front legs have come down completely, back leg came down some, but not completely. They will check him again tonight and see if it has come down more, if not they will do another dose tomorrow for his tendons. He is much more frisky and a LOT better about nursing. Things are looking good :D

I am so happy today. I just clicked on the video camera to see this very special colt cantering around in the stall. He did one complete 360 degree circle around Haley and then let out a buck. He is so proud.....:) :) :) :)
