View Full Version : Aunt Esther on Self Gifting
Aunt Esther
Dec. 15, 2006, 02:27 PM
Aunt Esther, national and international Purse Champion, is taking time from her busy day of sending off holiday gifts. Aunt Esther is forced to do this without assistance, because her PA and secretary are both off with influenza.
Aunt Esther has had to gift friends, family and staff, plus those people whom must be gifted because to not gift would be seen as an insult.
Aunt Esther is now completely put off by the entire gifting experience, and has instead begun contemplating what she shall gift herself with this year.
Aunt Esther's recommendations for self-gifting are lovely new spring purse, a barn coat suitable for après riding occasions, lovely breeches which do not call attention to one's physical challenges, and of course a lovely silver flask envgraved with one's initials.
Aunt Esther looks forward to hearing the self-gifting recommendations of fellow members of this fine bulletin board.

I have self-gifted to myself a new bookcase. Well, actually it's an old and not particularly great quality bookcase but it has personality. I pick it up in just under two hours. Of course, to go on it requires purchase of a festive holiday decoration so I am self-gifting a small decorative sleigh with potpourri and 3 handmade glass ornaments. Actually, I self-gifted two sleighs so one will be on the bookcase and one on the kitchen table (under close observation due to cats). I probably wouldn't have self-gifted either but I got a student of glass blowing to make them for me. The last 3 will be ready on Tuesday. :D If my neighbor re-does the entire fence between our properties (his cows having been living my field for a month), I will be self-gifting electric fencing supplies and thus, a new winter field as a gift for my girls. If this is the case, I will, of course be gifting him with needed fence posts. ;)
naters
Dec. 15, 2006, 02:39 PM
(Naters votes to word this whole thread in third person in honor of the most reverend Aunt Esther.).
Naters has also sent gift after gift after gift. To family, to friends, to those who aren't such good friends, but I am obligated to bestow gifts upon anyhow.
Naters just gifted herself this season with a Rambo Duo, and a Beval halter. Naters feels that these are both functional, yet fashionable choices.
Since these are technically gifts for the horse, Naters has decided that she must get a wee-little something for herself.
Naters has a Prada bag now.
Naters would like a Hermes bag, but it is not going to happen any time soon.
Naters' Prada bag will have to do for a while.

I gifted myself with the one ear headstall, split reins and breast collar form this collection http://www.kctack.com/html/navajo_cross.html for showing my seal brown mare in reining next season. I have a Dale Chavez saddle the same leather color and with similar conchos (without the turquoise inlay, of course).
Now, all we need is a blue saddle pad and maybe a new blue shirt for me. :D Can one gift oneself for New Years too?

I do believe I'm about to gift myself with a new tack trunk
I've seen the Stanley mobile tool boxes that are mentioned on another thread, and my Home Depot still had them the last time I was there.... Perhaps I'll tell my husband that it's a gift from him so I will have another opportunity to gift myself ;)

Dairy Queen, following Naters instruction, will procede in 3rd person as well. :)
Dairy Queen (DQ, having all to do with ice cream and nothing to do with a riding style) of only national trail expeditions and local state crossings (on horse of course!) has been gifting family, friends and the like for a month now.
In celebration of the holiday, and in protection of her nether regions, DQ, national trail expedious and local state crosser, has gifted herself 1 pr of Mountian Horse Artic Riding Pants.
DQ toasted her purchase with hot chocolate and peppermint snaaps whilst observing the delightful Northern Lights show last night - in her Engraved MI Dept of Trans mug (works Christmas 'bonus' to moi).
Cheers to all who are also wrapping and toasting.

Aunt E - how about buying yourself one of those flasks that look like a cell phone and come with a nice leather "cell phone" case. They are great! You take a swig and it looks like you are pulling up the antena with your teeth!

Dancing Lawn
Dec. 15, 2006, 03:10 PM
solved the gift giving dilemma years ago.
We simply stopped shopping.
now, we only present a gift to someone IF we happen to stumble across the perfect item that we CANT pass up. But it must be very special.
now, Dancing Lawn, her friends and her family are free to enjoy the peace and tranquility of the Christmas Season, without the stressful experience of overcrowded malls and disappointed, greedy giftees.
We bake lots of cookies, pies and cakes. We decorate. We eat well. We enjoy an assortment of gastromic delights. We have the time to engage in earnest conversation with people we like.
If Dancing Lawn comes across the perfect gift for Dancing Lawn, it MIGHT end up as a purchase. But again, it has to be SPECIAL. Something that Dancing Lawn cannot live without.
and Dancing Lawn can live without an awful lot of stuff. Happily, one might add.
:)
Merry Christmas! or Hanuka. Or Duwali. in fact, Happy Winter Solstice. Have a glass of champagne and a shortbread cookie.
now, THAT is a gift.

MeredithTX loves to holiday shop for others because it provides the perfect ruse for self-gifting. This year, Meredith has already gifted herself with a grooming apron for show prep, a lead line with a brass chain, and a lovely new sweater. She has refrained from buying other horse-related items in the hopes that for once, the family will actually listen and give her the items on her Christmas list. If not, then there will be much more self-gifting next week. :)

Dec. 15, 2006, 03:12 PM
WheresMyWhite is looking at gifting herself a pair of the Toasties with the discount from the postcard WheresMyWhite got the in mail.
WheresMyWhite is also looking at those fancy baroque saddle pads from Fashion Horse but am quite undecided what color for a bay mare (dutch x paint) with minimal white with a black dressage saddle.
Does Aunt Esther or other have recommendations on a suitable color for a bay in the baroque pads?

Aunt Esther, national and international Purse Champion, enquires as to whether the mare is a red bay or a seal bay?
Of course, Aunt Esther has never been a fan of Interesting Saddle Pads, but Aunt Esther understands that, more and more, she is in the minority.
As for the cell phone flask, Aunt Esther would rather die. :dead:
Duffy
Dec. 15, 2006, 03:42 PM
Ah, Duffy doesn't mind self-giving at all! Whilst secret santa shopping, Duffy found the most beauteous cashmere sweaters on sale, along with a pair of black slacks that were quite flattering, and of course had to purchase said items.
Duffy spreads out giving to others so that she may practice the self-giving more often. She has LOTS more recipients to buy for and shall look forward to it more because of this practice!

Good question :)
I would say "red" but she is not as red as a chestnut. But she is definitely not in the dark brown bay category. And not blood bay either.
WheresMyWhite likes to make fashion statements in informal clinics and lessons. There are no plans to show off the fancy saddle pad in either a schooling or recognized show (unless of course, George Morris might be there and then WheresMyWhite couldn't possibly resist ).

Calvincrowe
Dec. 15, 2006, 04:04 PM
Calvincrowe is a firm believer in Self-Gifting! Calvincrowe finds that one's family and friends have little understanding of what one really wishes for Christmas! So, to solve this dilemma, and to accrue more horse-related loot, Calvincrowe has decided to gift herself with new field boots. In fact, they arrive today! Cc is giddy with excitement! Cc's old field boots are nearing the far end of their life span, and Cc's trainer, Mr. Trainer, is also giddy with excitement over the replacement of said field boots. Hip hip hoorah!
(And, thank you Coreene, for on another thread you suggested lying on one's back to put on one's field boots. A terrific reason for lying on one's back--and a horse-related one, at that!)
atr
Dec. 15, 2006, 04:10 PM
ATR will apparently be gifting herself with a new trailer hitch, as some thieving asshat (Sorry Aunt Esther) has stolen hers.
If Mr. ATR decides that this theft makes an ideal opportunity for a "useful gift," (like last year's digital tire pressure guage after the unfortunate blowout on the freeway), she may beat him to death with it.

(And, thank you Coreene, for on another thread you suggested lying on one's back to put on one's field boots. A terrific reason for lying on one's back--and a horse-related one, at that!)Legs in the air is really the best boot trick for new boots.
I love self gifting! I got myself a new saddle! Which I totally didn't need. I don't need the new silver yee ha nameplate either, but I'm going to order one anyhow. I justify it by saying that the $$ came from an unexpected business thang that just fell into my lap. Unplanned $$ = free $$ = justification for a FREE saddle. That's my version, and I'm sticking with it!

GansMyMan
Dec. 15, 2006, 04:18 PM
GansMyMan has self gifted a 3.5 yr old OTTB, sparkling red and slightly used. Since said OTTB comes equipped with a broken sesamoid and pussy scrotum, GansMyMan has also self gifted many a visit from the vet. Ironically this self gift has also resulted in a nice new addition to the vets home. Christmas came early for GansMyMan, and on the real date, 12/25/06... GansMyMan will settle down for a long winter bender with the other self gifts she has found, Bombay Sapphire Gin and gourmet olives. GansMyMan is quite happy her Mother does not read this particular Bulletin Board.
Event4Life
Dec. 15, 2006, 04:18 PM
Event4Life will be gifting herself(though probably after christmas if she has any money left) with either a small Mp3 player(small enough so I can run with it...my 30GB just doesn't work!), or the lovely coach wallet she saw the other day while shopping with a friend who is almost as obsessed with purses as Aunt Esther. Event4Life had to pull said friend out of the Coach store before the friends bank account was broken...

DGRH has gifted herself by gifting her horse, Ted. Ted has done exceptionally well at school this year and is very deserving of many peeps, especially the new cookie flavored peeps shaped like gingerbread men. DGRH also lost her ebay virginity by participating in equiteric's on line auction, and is now the proud soon to be owner of a leather halter, a new lead rope (to replace the (horrors!) purple lead rope and halter in current usage), some bell boots, and a saddle pad that may be embroidered with a marshmallow peep chick at a future date.
She is also gifting herself with NINE DAYS to visit family and friends in the New York/New Jersey/Connecticut area, and she will be doing no experiments, although she will have her laptop. That is because DGRH's med school teaching commences immediately afterwards, followed by 3 grant deadlines through March 10.
She hopes to learn how to bok bok chickens from RR.

Self gifting. I have been thinking about it. I brought back a lovely Akubra from Australia (that's a hat by the way). But I gave it to someone who saw it and really, REALLY liked it. :) And I have been meaning to acquire another for myself. Maybe. Unless Mr. RR remembers and acquired one for me.
But what I really, REALLY want is a governess cart for the Wee Spotted Pony. The jog cart is nice, but I am always worried the wee children are going to get jogged out.

Ah, it's all on the SS thread - I think I threatened to ship chickens as a degrinching move, or some other such nonense. We digressed to chickens for a short while, with directions from LF and myself on how to properly move chickens and pigs. "Bok-bok" is chicken snoring - technically something they do without our intervention. So the Geek can witness it but not really learn how to do it while here - unless she leaves here snoring like a chicken?

Dec. 15, 2006, 04:57 PM
Smiles has decided that her saddle needed to be replace so she went to the tack store and low an behold found one that would do just nicely. It has come back from the saddler all nice and conditioned and will look nice on the fence post when Smiles gets called back for the jog! Smiles also got one of her beasts a new blanket because the 6 or 7 that she already has just won't do. They are not the right color for the season! Smiles is content for now that her purchases will tided her over into the new year or until she desires something else! :D
2DogsFarm
Dec. 15, 2006, 04:58 PM
Hoosier Farmgal that I am, 2DogsFarm self-gifted with a trip to visit friends in NYC. For 2 days we were treated as the True Princess we should be - wined, dined and taken shopping at the Coolest New Clothing Store Ever: Japanese import Uni Qlo.
This is where a lovely cashmere argyle cardigan & coordinating plaid twill blazer(yes they DO look smashing together) joined the 2Dogs closet.
Now if I can just refrain from wearing these new additions to the barn they can remain green slobber & goober-free.
FifteenOne
Dec. 15, 2006, 05:07 PM
While innocently shopping for her Secret Santa, FifteenOne encountered several items which she admired and which, much to her surprise, followed her home. As it turns out, it appears that in each case of mysterious gift appearance, one of her children indicated that they had in fact purchased that item for her! Wine glasses from Spenser (QH), a new straw barn hat from Alle (kitty), a black leather belt with Celtic adornments from Hana (shepherd), and new riding gloves from Rafferty (shepherd mix).
Is it considered self-gifting if the presents are from your "paws & tails" children? While not wishing to appear greedy, FifteenOne would hate to miss an opportunity to add to her gift pile if she is allowed to self-gift in addition to enjoying the gifts from her "children"!

RHdobes563
Dec. 15, 2006, 05:20 PM
RHdobes has found that there are TOO many things she herself would like to get for Christmas, and the friends/family find it TOO hard to find to these purchases for her (despite explicit directions on where/when/how much there gifts are). She, therefore takes the opportunity to buy them at usually holiday-reduced prices for herself.
SO FAR,
"White Trash Dressage", "Chronicles of the $700 Pony" (when it arrives), "White Christmas" on DVD (to replace VHS tape), "Jane Eyre" with Timothy Dalton (to replace VHS tape), "Miracle on 34th Street (ditto--"old" version which so-called intelligent brother said he couldn't tell the difference from the "new" version), 1st, 4th, and 5th seasons of "Angel" on DVD (they were sold out of 2nd and 3rd), last season of "Buffy" on DVD (only season on sale), "The Twelve Dogs of Christmas" (cheap DVD from Big Lots), and maybe, "The Princess Bride" on DVD (ditto above, not purchased yet, but on sale).
RHdobes' Christmas shopping is 99% done, lots of gift cards this year. RHdobes' is feeling particularly sorry for herself as her old female Doberman passed away last spring, followed a week later by her little, adoring mixed breed dog, and then a few months later by her extraordinary show (obedience) dog who LOVED to WORK and who died too young and quickly of cancer. Also, RHdobes made the hard decision to give up her (older) horse to someone who would use/love/give him more attention that RHdobes was and now, a few weeks ago, RHdobes has been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes which refuses to come under control, despite oral medication, diet, and insulin injections.
And so, RHdobes', whether wisely or not, is indulging herself this Christmas.
Lori B
Dec. 15, 2006, 05:25 PM
Lori B gifted herself a new lease horse, a cute but opinionated 10 yr. old Appy-TB mare in a completely plain bay wrapper. Ms. Beezy is making her a better rider for Xmas, one way or another. This gift is helping Lori B put off the total crack addiction of horse ownership for a few months longer.
debsinsb
Dec. 15, 2006, 05:33 PM
debsinsb has been a dedicated self gifter for many years. It was at one time, one gift for someone else and two gifts for debs.
Over time, quality has also replaced quantity. debsinsb has only purchased one small Coach patchwork bag for herself this holiday season.
And, debs is saving as she will be in New York for the Westminster Kennel Club dog show in February and will indulge in LOTS of self gifting from stores there.
Happy holidays to Aunt Esther, national and international Purse Champion. And to all who recognize the benefits of self gifting :D :D :D

Jamie2337 has self gifted herself with a new pair of Dover Shipping boots so that she does not have to wrap her horses (poorly) every time she trailers.

Dec. 15, 2006, 07:53 PM
Horse_Poor usually do not self gift, however...today was the day Horse_Poor received the holiday bonus from the boss-yeeha!
And after spending more time than Horse_Poor cares to think about, time Horse_Poor will never get back, talking to an idiot at Circuit City about a cell phone for Horse_Poor's son for Christmas (If Horse_Poor heard one more person in that store say "That's not my job", Horse_Poor was going to to scream!), Horse_Poor is ready to self gift. (Did Horse_Poor mention that cell phone is for 13 yo dark brooding son who a few weeks ago spewed venom out of his mouth, called Horse_Poor some choice names, and is now not speaking to Horse_Poor ? The son who's grandmother is giving him an Ipod tomorrow (no, Horse_Poor is not getting one  ) the son who is getting an ass load for Christmas-the son who picked a really bad time to cop attitude with his mother?)
Horse_Poor did self gift herself some new Birkenstocks last week, however, Horse_Poor feels they are lonely, so they need these: http://www.shoemall.com/keycode.cmd?catalogKeyCode=SMJQ993&dest=catalog/product.jsp?style=109651&GCID=C16122x006 Horse_Poor is sure Aunt Esther will have a heart attack upon seeing them, and Horse_Poor is also lusting after these: http://www.amazon.com/Sperry-TopSider-Womens-Original-Pale/dp/B000B30132/sr=1-3/qid=1166230329/ref=sr_1_3/002-9554613-2737616?ie=UTF8&s=apparel
Fancy
Dec. 15, 2006, 07:56 PM
Fancy has frequently carried self-gifting to extremes, such that nothing was left to buy after Christmas at all the delicious sales.
This year Fancy has self-gifted herself a 2 piece "cold-weather suit" i.e. overalls, vest and jacket, all in shining red. If Fancy can find gloves and hat that beg to be included in this smashing new set, they will be added to the group. In point of fact, Fancy's mare, the REAL Fancy, suggested the purchase, having provided-with the help of her SO Jack-Mr. Fancy's new Carharts last year. Jack insisted on coveralls, being an authority on *ahem* chilly nether regions in men.
And Fancy would like to congratulate Aunt Ester on this thread. NOBODY piffles better than you do, AE!

Well meaning mother responded "that is Mr. West5's job/gift to get"

Dazednconfused
Dec. 15, 2006, 09:01 PM
Dazednconfused has always been a firm believer in self-gifting and considers it to be a cleansing sort of therapy. This year the self-gifting consists of a primo ticket to see Eric Clapton, an uber-fashionable Coach iPod case, and new riding boots (the last of this list she has yet to order, however).
Dazednconfused also inquires if anyone else self-gifts and insists upon gift wrapping at the store, even though it is your present and you already know what is in it?
tullio
Dec. 15, 2006, 09:29 PM
Tullio adheres to the age old "one for you, one for me" method of gifting, wherein each gift for another is paired with one for herself.
While no especially notable gifts have been purchased this year, Tullio feels that the constant stream of self-gifts have made surviving the holidays possible.
The constant stream of peppermint patties, purchased every time Tullio enters a grocery store, make the holidays enjoyable.
Like many other gentle posters, Tullio wishes all self-gifters the very best this holiday season (whatever they choose to call it!)

Paragon
Dec. 15, 2006, 09:36 PM
Paragon will be gifting herself with her very first saddle, which will doubtlessly have been someone else's saddle first, because everyone knows that old saddles are the best. And most wallet-happy while still being horse- and bottom-happy. :D

Dec. 15, 2006, 09:41 PM
In the course of happily shopping for others, it is possible Monday may have self-gifted herself a really nice pearl necklace. In Monday's defense, she has been looking for just such a necklace for a long time!
Quin
Dec. 15, 2006, 09:45 PM
Quin will not be doing any self-gifting this year.
Quin's station wagon beat her to the punch and self-gifted itself a new catalytic converter Tuesday morning; DH called Quin at 10:30 am with the good news. At 10:31 Quin therefore declared all Christmas shopping in the Quin household to be over.
Folks, if I didn't buy it before Tuesday morning, it ain't getting bought. ;)
MidlifeCrisis
Dec. 15, 2006, 09:50 PM
MidlifeCrisis decided she needed a new warm Xmas tjacket for the barn. She orders the perfect one and it arrives. Alas, it is too large. What to do? What to do? While at the barn, MidlifeCrisis tells the sad story to Ms. Trainer. She says "Let me try it on." It's a perfect fit. So, Ms. Trainer has a new jacket for Xmas. And MidlifeCrisis has nothing
But never fear! MidlifeCrisis is very familiar with the benefits of retail therapy. And this will require lots and lots of retail therapy:D
Shahrazade
Dec. 15, 2006, 10:01 PM
I think I read 'pussy scrotum' the wrong way the first couple times...
I have self gifted a large wire cage and a curly haired rat to keep my regular hooded rat company. Unfortunately, the curly haired rat will be staying at the breeder's house for a couple more weeks, as the straight haired rat has self gifted a lovely set of matching lice, and is none too thrilled with the process of removing his gift from his person. Incidentally, several of my friends have lately made interesting excuses when invited to visit my apartment over the holidays... Funny how rat lice bother some people
Most of my friends and relatives will be getting gifts for their pets this holiday, as I am fed up with guessing what humans who have everything want.... especially when they say, 'Oh, nothing.' Their dogs will receive nice gift baskets with treats, chews, and toys.
Renn/aissance
Dec. 15, 2006, 10:04 PM
Renn has gifted Tip with a lovely new plaid wool sheet, and an Irish knit in his colors. As Renn will likely end up taking a nap on top of said wool sheet, she considers this to be self-gifting as well.
SBT
Dec. 15, 2006, 10:30 PM
SBT gifted herself a saddle that makes her butt look SMALL!

SBT will be very sad if, in fact, the magical ass-minimizing saddle turns out to be too big for her to ride in. :(
The jury is still out...

Dec. 15, 2006, 10:43 PM
Theoldgreymare will not be doing any self-gifting as theoldgreygelding gifted her with a new 9 horse barn this year and, in self-gifting, she would feel extremely self-indulgent.
Additionally, she will not treat herself to her traditional Christmas Eve bottle of Krug (bubbles always make the holidays sparkle for theoldgreymare). Instead, she will drink seltzer with lemon and long for the old days when getting tanked by oneself while wrapping Christmas gifts was socially acceptable.

Dec. 15, 2006, 11:06 PM
Surely Theoldgreymare is not telling me I have to wrap all these presents without getting tanked? I always thought that was an important part of the process. I can't wrap worth a darned, but at least after a couple of cocktails I have an excuse.
In fact, a bit of drinking is quite the Monday family holiday tradition. Last Christmas eve culminated in Monday's father making her one to many strong drinks of unknown contents. We never make it up very early to open our presents anymore. Everyone has a hangover.

Now, all we need is a blue saddle pad and maybe a new blue shirt for me. :D Can one gift oneself for New Years too?
We can trade B-days for a year and you will have your gifts before New Years... well in time for show season. All this Christmas, B-day (twin bro's b-day too), and New Years all crammed into one week stuff gets a bit old after awhile.

Since it is unlikely that Miss Snaffle will benefit from the many occasions during which other people are gifted (wedding shower, wedding, anniversary, baby shower, etc), Miss Snaffle has taken to self-gifting for many years.
This year's self-gifting has included the following:
a new horse (I really needed a new horse)
two new riding jackets (the color needed to go with the new horse)
four new show shirts (to go with the new riding jackets)
new TS schooling britches in chocolate brown (because I lost 2 pounds)
four new books in my horsey library (because I broke my leg and needed a present)
new monogrammed saddle pad (to go with the new horse)
a cashmere Ann Taylor sweater from eBay (because I was sad that my leg was broken)
On the list of gifts not yet self-gifted by/to Miss Snaffle are:
cooler for new horsie
shadbelly
leather open front boots
dark green TS schooling breeches
Miss Snaffle is very much looking forward to new occasions for these gifts (got to work on time - need a gift, there's a sale at the tack shop - need a gift, Boxing Day - need a gift, my birthday - definitely need a gift).

After re-reading that post, it appears that Miss Snaffle is indeed a self-indulgent, spoiled brat. But she assures you, she is not.
Tuesday's Child
Dec. 15, 2006, 11:35 PM
Theoldgreymare will not be doing any self-gifting as theoldgreygelding gifted her with a new 9 horse barn this year and, in self-gifting, she would feel extremely self-indulgent.
Tuesday's Child must question the abovementioned statement. Is theoldgreygelding the DH of theoldgreymare? If that is the case, Tuesday's Child worries about the (in)stability of the relationship that would result in the unfortunate state of theoldgreygelding's nether regions. Perhaps (hopefully)theoldgreystallion would be a more appropriate reference? Unlss there was an unfortunate pussy scrotum incident *snicker*
As for self-gifting, Tuesday's Child is a strong supporter. Despite being a starving university student, she has recently gifted herself with a lovely new suit, and the minimal two pairs of shoes to go with it (and some necklaces as well). To validate such flamboyance, Tuesday's Child has used the excuse of upcoming teacher's college interviews necessitating a professional appearance. In actual fact, it is more so that she has something nice to wear this weekend :D

I gifted myself with a new assistant;) .
http://members.tripod.com/sabrawolf_1/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/bear.jpg
Add to my gifted items to myself a new laptop, and a 4horse GN head-to-head, LQ, and conversion to boxstalls for shipping mares with foals. New trailer will arive in early Jan., just in time for Ocala (if FL hasn't washed into the ocean by then:eek: )!
Beastie is getting her first horse - look out Children's Hunters 2008'!!!! She also got my old laptop, and a cellphone (phone was free with my Verizon upgrade, and for an additional $9.99/mo, I can't go wrong).

Dec. 16, 2006, 12:42 AM
Ah yes, the joys of self-gifting. Due to a limited poor college student budget, the self-gifting has alas not been extravagant, but Natalie has nonetheless found ways to reward herself for...the sake of rewarding herself.
Oh, and free shipping discounts when one spend x amounts of $$$ are perfect opportunities for a bit of self-gifting. Just this week, this particular strategy has yielded: a nice new lip gloss palette from Sephora and a lovely cookbook from Amazon. The end of a rather strenuous finals week might just entail a more extravagent bit of self-rewarding...;)
Touch of Pink
Dec. 16, 2006, 12:58 AM
Touch of Pink usually loves to self gift however she is in agreement with Natalie that the student budget does not like it as much as she does!
At this point in time Touch of Pink has been sticking to self gifting herself with caramel machiottos from Starbucks but this is only to sustain her until her shopping spree after her last final! Her student budget is dreading the day...
Touch of pink on the other hand feels much less pre self gifting guilt after reading about all of the other wonderful self gifters :)
asb_own_me
Dec. 16, 2006, 10:08 AM
asb_own_me is a frequent self-gifter with a knack for selecting the most expensive regularly priced item in any store by scent alone. In 3.8 seconds.
asb_own_me recently self-gifted herself with an older model Pessoa saddle, to join her previously purchased older model Pessoa saddle, so she could have the gut wrenching decision of which to show, which to school. It's tragic, really. A related equestrian gift was a lined tall boot bag complete with monogramming, because it's really about time for that.
She has also self-gifted herself with various novelties of the computing variety, under the ruse of CO-gifting herself and Mr. asb_own_me. Ha. Also, another large CO-gifting effort was of the espresso variety....so that Mr. asb_own_me could revel in the pleasure of making delicious espresso varieties for asb_own_me in the wee morning hours. Ha.
asb_own_me is beyond ecstatic that Aunt Esther began the self-gifting celebration, and encourages virgin and experienced self-gifters alike to continue the tradition, and never give up in the face of adversity - also known as "maxing out" one's credit cards. Shop on, ladies and gents!

The oldgreygelding is the DH of the oldgreymare. Theoldgreymare has often been referred to as an "immasculating b*tch". In fact, her testosterone levels have been questioned in the past, as she often has a larger set than most men. Theoldgreygelding has years of contrition before he regains stallion status in theoldgreymare's book. A new barn is a good start. She thinks once she has a new Ford F450 and matching gooseneck with LQ, theoldgreygelding may have his testicles back.
Purely4Pleasure
Dec. 16, 2006, 12:43 PM
Valentines day is coming up. You could definitely gift yourself for that.
Self-gifters should not overlook the opportunities provided by Epiphany, Presidents' Day or MLK Day, either.
Purely4Pleasure will be self-gifting a new helmet, most likely of the Charles Owen line, for Christmas.
But even better, Purely4Pleasure has discovered the joys of the Joint Gift. This year, P4P and her current employer will share the joy of the Joint Gift Resignation Letter. (Admittedly, this gift will offer more joy to P4P than to her current employer. Such are the trials of life.)

Merry Christmas to me!
TwoDreamRides
Dec. 16, 2006, 10:01 PM
TwoDreamRides will also be self-gifting this year, although TwoDreamRides considers this to be an "End of Year Bonus" as opposed to Christmas Gift. It makes TwoDreamRides feel on par with the corporate world, despite being a college student.
Her end of year bonus includes:
a new chocolate brown show coat
new speakers/dual subwoofers/amp for the truck
wool dress sheet

Dec. 16, 2006, 11:17 PM
Aunt Esther's recommendations for self-gifting are lovely new spring purse, a barn coat suitable for après riding occasions, lovely breeches which do not call attention to one's physical challenges, and of course a lovely silver flask envgraved with one's initials.JumpingPaints is wondering if it is also appropriate to self-gift contents for said flask? (only to ensure prompt appreciation for aforementioned self-gifting acquisitions)
DanskHoss
Dec. 17, 2006, 12:48 AM
After the frigid temps and power outages in our region recently, DanskHoss fulfilled a longtime dream and bought a muskrat coat, a mouton coat, and a mink coat.
Less one would think that DanskHoss has a currency printing press in her basement, please bear in mind that these 3 coats are vintage. In great shape; well taken care of; lovingly worn and gently treated.
The original owner was so thrilled that her furs would be going out to parties again. DanskHoss was able to self-gift well within her budget; make a lovely elderly lady happy, and "recycle" something that was not being used. Plus coats from that era just have a certain panache not found in current outerwear.
Aunt Esther, don't you think that I need a lovely Hermes scarf to tuck in the neckline?

Dec. 17, 2006, 12:58 AM
This is an OLD family recipe; one that is always welcomed around the holidays. It was originally utilized for that hateful task of putting up the tree, and more was consumed at the equally hateful task of taking said tree down.
It's also been very useful whilst gift-wrapping (self and otherwise); baking cookies and Christmas Cake; getting through another stupifying dinner with the in-laws; and best of all, something that keeps you warm during late night barn checks. I've recently managed to clean all my leather tack, saddles and boots thanks to this tasty concoction.
However, one night after imbibing perhaps one too many, I found myself self-gifting online at The Old Habit. But surely I DID need brown field boots, right? And upon arriving, I found they fit perfectly.
Mac insisted on sampling some last year, and took a drink. Immediately that huge Belgian upper lip flipped up, revealing all his massive teeth. He proved himself to truly be MY horse when he came back for seconds.
Cranberry Slushes
16 oz cranberry juice cocktail
6 oz can frozen limeaid
6 oz can bourbon
Mix together and freeze. It will never get totally frozen; just very slushy. Do NOT use expensive bourbon; it will never set up. Jim Beam is wonderful for this. It is very easy to quadruple and make a bigger batch.
Vandy
Dec. 17, 2006, 01:25 AM
Vandy is sure Aunt Esther would agree that a lady should have Gucci sunglasses to wear while riding the tractor around the farm. So Vandy went ahead and gifted herself as such.
Cindeye
Dec. 17, 2006, 05:18 AM
Cindeye is confused. Cindeye was not aware that there may be other individuals toward whom gifts should be directed. Cindeye is currently looking for the ultimate tiara to give to Cindeye because, to quote the great Marilyn Monroe, Cindeye just loves "to find new places to wear diamonds."
Does Aunt Esther have any other recommendations regaring gifts that Cindeye should be sending to Cindeye this fine holiday season?
Hazelnut
Dec. 17, 2006, 07:08 AM
Hazelnut has a self gifting dilemma in that she is so invovled in gifting and wrapping said gifts for others that she does NOT self gift items before Christmas.
She does, however, make note of items that are of interest to her (like the beautiful Horsewear Victoria jacket purchased for Mother-in-Law who is always eyeing up my quilted riding jackets). Hazelnut is glad to generously self gift as things go on sale in the New Year! Vests and beautiful soft riding jackets are high on my list.
Hazelnut did manage to self gift a nice riding clinic this weekend. :)
MHM
Dec. 17, 2006, 07:15 AM
MHM had a very unfortunate experience last night- the Indian self-gift. MHM had purchased a lovely trinket for herself, but when wrapping presents (to the requisite background accompaniment of It's a Wonderful Life on TV), MHM discovered the stack for one of her sisters-in-law was a bit meager, so she redirected the self-gift to said sister-in-law's pile.
Never fear, MHM will replace it with a bigger and better trinket for herself!

Ruth0552
Dec. 17, 2006, 08:14 AM
Ruth0552 is having trouble with self-gifting. Not the concept, but what exactly to self-gift? Ruth is clearly not in the self-gifting spirit.
Ruth, having had a birthday in early November, is having trouble thinking of things for others to get her, let alone what to get herself.
Not only that, but Ruth has a gift certificate from said birthday to local tack shop where she cannot even think of what to buy! Serious self-gifting opportunity, combined with self-gifting tragedy.
The only think Ruth can think of that she really wants is enough steriods to turn her Honda Civic into an F-150.
Dear Aunt Esther, do you have any self-gifting suggestions?

Dec. 17, 2006, 01:56 PM
Carolp has gifted herself with a pair of deerskin breeches, alas one size larger than she usually wears. She then happened to notice that said breeches went on CLOSEOUT so she promptly bought another pair.
And there is the little matter of the Thermotex stable blanket on TOTD, in the perfect color for her 30 year old half Connemara. But wait, that's a gift for Honey, not Carolp so of course is not a self gift. Nor is her new 4 stall barn which will add to the value of her property

So the Geek can witness it but not really learn how to do it while here - unless she leaves here snoring like a chicken?Ah. So "bok-bok" is not actually a transitive verb - it's an intransitive verb. It is not something one does *TO* chickens, like decapitating or chasing plucking; it is something the chickens themselves do.
I have most certainly heard chickens "bok-bok" (musically, even - in fact, if you go to this page: http://www.aprilwinchell.com/multimedia/, then scroll down, you will find a number of Chicken Songs, including the marvelous "In the Mood" which was discussed on the dressage board as a possible musical freestyle piece for the $700 Pony). But when DGRH said she was going to learn to "bok-bok chickens", it sounded to me like she was going to be performing some act upon these poor unsuspecting birds... and I was a bit concerned. She can, however, learn to "bok-bok like a chicken".

I'm sorry, I will have to see proof of your age before i can do that. Board rules.
The good news is, you just have to be old enough, you don't have to be 501(3)c.I can remember where I was when JFK was shot. Does that count?
(JFK, you may recall from your history books, was a former President of the United States. He was assassinated November 22, 1963, in Dallas, TX. I was not in Dallas that day, but I have been in the hospital where they brought him, and my daughter is a medical student at UT Southwestern, which is associated with Parkland Hospital, where he was officially pronounced dead. She reports that there is a plaque on the wall in the x-ray department commemorating this. She was not in Dallas that day, either. Or anywhere, for that matter ;-) I'm not THAT old.)

Quin's station wagon beat her to the punch and self-gifted itself a new catalytic converter Tuesday morning; DH called Quin at 10:30 am with the good news. At 10:31 Quin therefore declared all Christmas shopping in the Quin household to be over.
Folks, if I didn't buy it before Tuesday morning, it ain't getting bought. ;)

That is because DGRH's med school teaching commences immediately afterwards, followed by 3 grant deadlines through March 10.
She hopes to learn how to bok bok chickens from RR.
Yeah, the "bok bok"ing as a verb got Naters a little worried when combined with the medical experiment statement above. Naters thought for a moment that "bok bok"ing chickens would be most unpleasant.
DGRH:
Naters can remember where she was whent the challenger exploded - can you tell Naters the exact definition of "bok bok"ing a chicken? Or is it like someone else said, and DGRH will actually be "bok bok"ing LIKE a chicken?

RAR, having been gifted with a new abode at which to keep Prozac Pony & Mr. Blondie, feels that self-gifting this year would be a bit too indulgent. Although she does plan to stop by Ace Hardware later today to pick up some hay hooks, a finer-tined muck fork, and some new work gloves, as hers developed a hole yesterday. She will also be picking up bermuda pellets, BOSS, flax seed, Nature's Essentials, and Sweet PDZ, but those are for the boys, not for her.
She is contemplating an external antenna for her V640 ExpressCard... but perhaps she can suggest that to Mr. RAR instead of self-gifting.
She is sort of self-gifting herself with a set of cavalletti, because she has informed her two grown children, who will be home with their SOs, that she will provide the materials and the plans, and they are to provide the slave labor to construct these cavalletti while they are home for the holidays in lieu of actually purchasing a present for her, because both children are (STILL) in school and therefore impoverished. She might get a mounting block out of the deal, too, but the wall has been working quite well so far.

The fencing team was housed on the same floor where the hostages were taken. 11 Israeli athletes were killed: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Munich_massacre

The closest horse-celebrity story I have is that we "met" Red Rum in Scotland years ago at some small county fair. He was on exhibit. I was very excited later because I noticed that he had a bit part in one of the "Racing Game" movies they made from the Dick Francis stories.

Gift yourself with a hitch lock, as well. They are inexpensive and keep the asshats at bay.

Hazelnut, I bought the Riedel glasses and thought I would love them but they are very light weight. Maybe that's how they should be??? I've never seen stemless glasses except on tv. Kap
Dec. 17, 2006, 10:43 PM
Kap was fully against self-gifting. Kap knew better than to indulge in such frivolities, when there were plenty of practical things to spend her money on, such as getting the truck fixed, or getting blinds for her bedroom.
Then Kap discovered that she could sell her used textbooks for money. Easy money. Caaaaaash money.
A quick five minutes after walking into the bookstore, Kap walked out with a couple hundred dollars in cash burning a hole in her wallet. What was poor Kap to do? The money begged to be spent. Kap stands firm by that statement, and would like to clarify once more: It. Begged. To. Be. Spent.
Two sweaters, some stirrup leathers, a helmet cover, and a monogrammed saddle pad later, Kap has decided that she is a bad kid.

I think my sister-in-law has the the stemless glassware from Williams Sonoma, they were very nice in the hand. Great after a day at the barn....
Hmmm... Will check the ones from Williams Sonoma. I bought two sets and thought they weren't much different from many juice glasses. I bought a set for a present and a set for me but thought they were a bit flimsy. I knock stuff over all the time so stemless seemed like a good idea. :D
atr - how did they get your hitch with your lock? That is just wrong! Honestly, if you know how they got your lock undone, I wouldn't mind knowing. I leave my hitch in all the time because if I'm not hauling, it comes in handy as an extra defense against the rat bastards that think tailgaiting is special sport. Before I got my truck, I had no idea that trailer hitches were prime targets for theives. I have since been educated. Crazy! Why risk jail time when you could just buy the item??? I mean, they don't cost that much! My friend's husband had THREE stolen before he bought a lock. He's a bit slow. ;)
And "toothmugs"??? That's just funny!

Ah, the self-gift. Foursocks remembers those days fondly....the days before she owned The Horse. Now *he* gets everything.
Foursocks's best self-gift ever was on her birthday, a couple of years ago. Husband was in surgery having his knee augmented with a DGL (dead guy ligament), and she was bored of the waiting room and nasty talk shows. She zipped over to the Coach store and bought herself a wristlet to use as a wallet.
It must be noted that foursocks got back five minutes before the doctor came out to tell her that the DGL was successfully attached. Such a *good* wife.

NCEquestrian, who should be focusing on gifting her friends and family, has chosen to gift her horse, and thus gift herself. Horse will soon be receiving a new CWD bellyguard girth (the new one, with the contoured elbows) and new CWD leather open front boots, with buckles for style. NCEquestrian wishes to blame the fabulous rep from said company, who also happens to be a friend and who knows NCEquestrian's weakness for any present for the already spoiled rotten horse...*sigh*
Oh well...happy holidays one and all!!!!!

Rebeginner is mystified by the self-gifting yearning for stemless vessels for consuming wine products expressed by Hazelnut and Alabama. Rebeginner has recently received a set of stemless port glasses (very nice Riedel crystal) and finds them annoying. One's fingerprints unavoidably appear all over the bowl, and they are difficult to clean after use. Rebeginner is particularly uninterested in stemless glasses for drinking chilled wines: the whole point of having a stem is to prevent one's body heat from warming the contents of the bowl!
As a final insult, it is not possible to have a satisfyingly musical *clink* when one toasts the accomplishments of one's pony if the dad-gummed glass doesn't have a stem.
Rebeginner's self-gifting consisted only of a new (used) saddle, which since it is an item of apparel (for the horse), it doesn't really count as a gift.

Well, Rebeginner, I can see your preference...
I like the stemless for the reds...not usually chilled, but can be. And the glasses we used at my sister-in-laws were very sparkly and we popped them in the dishwasher. Noted no problems with lack of clinkability or unsightly fingerprints....we were toasting the weekend away...I was looking for used horse trailers and my DH was toasting the fact that I didn't find one so far from home.
It is all a matter of preference. In my favorite little Italian pizzaria/wine bar in DC (Two Amy's) they always serve wine in a drink glass with no stem. Works out OK.

solved the gift giving dilemma years ago.
Amen.

Mr ATR was merely proving how much he loves you, ATR.
Blowouts should never ever happen - and your handy gauge will help youto prevent that possible DEADLY occurance. LOVE your guage. Use it proudly and EVERY time you haul.
Mr DQ has presented DQ with same-same and DQ was very happy to be given such a lovely gift....
DQ has also received many a tool from Mr. DQ - power tools too!! For which she is very grateful - and makes good use of.
Now, should Mr DQ present DQ with, say, a toaster.....well, see the movie Scrooged. "Its a TOASTER!!"
Mr DQ, however, is much smarter then that. :D

alabama blames it on that Everyday Italian show where they frequently drink out of stemless glasses. I thought they looked pretty cool. That and the fact they are harder to knock over - I'm kind of clumsy. ;)
So you like the Riedel crystal? I know you didn't like the style but you liked the crystal? Maybe I'm being overly picky. I've never seen these in person before. My favorite italian restaurant serves wine in what I swear are ice tea glasses. That's the closest I've ever come to stemless in person. :D
Edited to add that I will also have to be self gifting a new (to me) saddle if I can find one to fit my fat red mare. ;)

Alabama, I have NO idea how they got it off, unless all the locks are keyed the same (which, speaking as a person who buys locks, is not beyond the bounds of possibility.) As it has been about 15 degrees and snowing since it disappeared, I haven't crawled under the truck looking for hacksaw blade marks. I gather, however, that the extra long drop on our tow hitch makes it a desirable item amongst the low lives of Utah, for some reason...
Actually, in a twisted way, the thief may have done me a favor. I only discovered this theft as I arrived at he barn to pick up trailer and horsie to go for a lesson. Needless to say, that didn't happen. Horsie colicked rather badly later in the day and is still not out of the woods. It would have been an even bigger problem if we'd been away from home when it had happened.
DQ, I know, I know, but it would have been nice to get something else as well :)
But what do I expect? This is from the man who bought me a butter dish for my 30th birthday... (long ago....)

Hazelnut, I agree that short drinking glasses for reds can be fun. I have some terrific, cheap cobalt blue glasses that I got in a grocery store in Paris that I use for reds, especially outside. I guess I was startled when I began seeing stemless glasses for chilled wines (including champagne, the elixir of life and the secret to a blue ribbon) and was horrified.
And to Alabama, yes, I like the crystal quality of Riedel. However, they have more than one level of quality ("house" -- Sur la Table/Williams Sonoma-brand; "Vinum" and something else). Maybe you had a lighter-weight version?
Indy
Dec. 18, 2006, 02:42 PM
Indy firmly believes in getting herself gifts for both her birthday and Hanukkah (that being said, she does not believe in giving herself eight gifts for Hanukkah, mostly because she is poor).
This year, because what she wanted to give herself for her birthday was a bit expensive and not really needed, Indy decided to give herself a combined Birthday-Hanukkah present (a Birthukkah gift, if you will). She ordered a lovely pair of custom half chaps after her birthday and they arrived a few weeks ago, making them a very well timed Birthukkah gift. She wore them for the first time yesterday and thinks that Indy has fabulous taste in gifts and just loves them. They are pretty but none of her non-horsey friends appreciate how chaps can be pretty, which makes her a bit sad because they cannot share in her joy.

Aunt Esther, don't you think that I need a lovely Hermes scarf to tuck in the neckline?Aunt Esther, national and international Purse Champion always feels that a Hermes scarf is most appropriate, but wonders if DanskHoss would be better off with a selection of Hermes scarves?

Aunt Esther, national and international Purse Champion, is a great fan of Gucci sunglasses and finds them highly appropriate for self-gifting.
Aunt Esther notices that some members of this find internet bulletin boards are greedier than others, and would like to point out that it is not owning the tiara that is important. It is Having A Tiara Attitude. Aunt Esther wears her own crown from morning to night. True, Aunt Esther's crown is generally invisible, since there are so few Tiara Wearing Opportunities in America, but it is Aunt Esther's Tiara Attitude that bouyantly takes her through her day.
Aunt Esther finds that all self-gifts are appropriate, and consequently is hesitant to make specific recommendations. Aunt Esther does point out that self-gifting moments should be reserved for something which the giftee truly desires, and not some random necessity.

Dec. 18, 2006, 03:36 PM
We must be careful about self-gifting. We must make sure the self gift is ensured to not be repeated under the Christmas tree!
Fortunately, LisaB's birthday is in the beginning of Feb. so if the asked, begged, coerced wish list of gifts is not under the tree complete with burgandy and gold wrapping(yes, I'm anal retentive! My whole Christmas decorations are burgandy and gold with presents), then LisaB goes and buys them herself during her birthday. Or, if LisaB's in-laws are thoughtful enough to get a gift certificate, then away she goes on a shopping spree.
And yes, the power suits for those power meetings to keep LisaB awake were the self gifting this year. No way would someone buy those for me since sizing is an issue(size 10 in one suit, size 6 jacket and size 8 pants in the other).

Kap was very, very surprised to find out that the bookstore on her campus was actually paying a fair price per book. Kap rejoiced inwardly, not wanting to let on to the saleswoman that she would have settled for a mere $50 instead of the $220 that she got.

Let's put it this way. If it's history or literature or even math or physics, gently used (as well they should be) textbooks can bring a fair price.
Alas, for the biological sciences, which are out of date even before they are published, few $$$ are returned. Bio textbooks are not like saddles. They do not age well.
Might I suggest tutoring as a way for those in this situiation to earn money to self gift those important horsey items?

Ha! Natalie, who is now fighting her way through a very large history paper is preperation for her thesis wishes this were so. She has been forced to keep most of the books she buys for her history classes. Some, such as volumes by Marx or Foucault, make her look quite intellectual, whilst others with odd titles suggestive of unsavory topics are pushed to the bottom shelf and continually listen on Amazon for resale. Alas, such is the nature of academia.

And these were hardbound physics, chemistry, math, biology books.
I expect one pays more than that for most paperbound textbooks these days.
Shay Darra
Dec. 18, 2006, 09:35 PM
In deference to Aunt Ester, Shay Darra succumbed to not one but TWO PURSES in her frenzied dash into Macy's today in search of presents for her employees. One was a Liz Claiborne of the most luscious brown leather that made her think of expensive bridles, 25% off plus an additional 20% off with use of said Macy's charge card. All in the name of supporting the American economy. The other an Etienne Aigner summer model orginially offered at $80, reduced to $24 with an additional 20% off. One does not need to do the math to know that was a must have!
Other self gifting this holiday shopping season includes cobalt blue stemmed wine glasses with etched running horses (originally purchased for a club gift exchanged but later deemed much too classy for such an unpredictable activity), a wireless doorbell for the back door as Mr. SD cannot hear knocking above the din of the Discovery Channel, and an Ariat vest and matching long sleeve tee.
With several more shopping days prior to the official Gift Exchange Day, Shay Darra anticipates that there could potentially be further opportunities for much deserved and exquisitely selected self gifting.
And a shopping we will go........................

Ah. So "bok-bok" is not actually a transitive verb - it's an intransitive verb. It is not something one does *TO* chickens, like decapitating or chasing plucking; it is something the chickens themselves do.
But on a recent PP thread, pAin't Misbehavin' believes it was decided the best way to get a chicken to load into a trailer was to wait for it to go into "bok-bok" mode, then snatch it up by its feet and toss it in. pAM was under the impression that this was the action to which DGRH referred and in which she wished to be instructed.

The real reason PalominoMorgan self-gifted this particular item was to "test ride" the western pleasure show saddle she plans to self-gift herself for her birthday, just in time for the start of show season. The ONLY upside to such an unfortunate turn of events is that PalominoMorgan will feel NO regret taking her money out of the teacher retirement system and self-gifting for the big Three One. :) PalominoMorgan also self-gifted a lovely new surcingle, some work pads, a pair of breeches, and a shop vac attachment for "grooming" THE Palomino Morgan this winter. PalominoMorgan wishes everyone a very merry self-gifting season!

After over a month of hemming, hawing, justifying, and pondering the expenditure of an outrageous amount of money, I have purchased a pair of delicious Dubarry boots for myself. Vive le Noel! :D

DGRH wishes to add that in the spirit of self gifting, one is often moved to gift others. Since DGRH has made amazing headway into one grant, and since that is stupifying work that forces one's eyes to glaze over, it was incumbent upon her to self gift. DGRH's parents went to Kohl's to buy the male parental unit a gift, and DGRH noticed an on clearance (>60% off) boy's lined rain jacket that also zips up from the bottom. This does not count as self gifting as this is a much needed item for the barn. Therefore, DGRH's parents agreed to drive by a small tack shop in the area where DGRH found the new likit tablets, which she bought for Ted as well as for the Wee Spotted Pony and the $700 Pony. This was also not self gifting, as the gifts are to be enjoyed by others. DGRH then paid for the items from Equiteric's e bay auction, but since these included Ted's presents, plus a gift for someone else, this still does not count as self gifting.
DGRH agreed to go to services tonight with her parents, as no one in the congregation believe she exists. At the last minute, the female parental unit of DGRH, concerned over the oncoming rain, and who felt very tired, decided to give the services a miss. DGRH, always the dutiful daughter, would have attended.
Not having to go to services when you don't want to: priceless. No need to self gift now.

Win win, eh? My parents felt I should go, because whenever there is an issue with Ted (like the summer abcess) they ask that his name be read aloud. If he was named Mr Potato Head or Pumpkin Butt people would have suspected ted was not homo sapiens.
Hey - I also got out of going to their volunteer night at bingo because my flight got in too late. Obviously, I am being rewarded by the Powers That Be for good behavior.

I self gifted with a beautiful new one bedroom apartment that I really can't afford, but it has a dog run, gym, and tennis courts so I couldn't say no. As well as a belt canvas in the process of being made! :)

Horse_Poor are self gifted herself by rebuilding her Pink Floyd CD collection, which disappeared when a less than stellar ex boyfriend obtained illegal custody of them. Rather than fight the bass turd, Horse_Poor decided it would be easier to just get new ones. Horse_Poor also got the Pink Floyd Pulse concert DVD and now has bright and sunny younger child watching it (this is the child that is the opposite of dark and brooding older child)
Jen22 states Horse_Poor is unfit as a parent to expose a wee one to PF however Horse_Poor feels it is never to early to start their education in the wonderful world of PF. Plus Horse_Poor found a lullabye rendition of PF songs CD for Baby Sydney, which Jen22 will look at and promptly :sigh: sigh upon receiving it. (As Horse_Poor was peeling the label of said CD the plastic wrap ripped, and as tempted as Horse_Poor was to quickly burn a copy, since it WAS unwrapped, she did not.)
Horse_Poor is indeed an ethical gifter!
