Well, my Mom can't make me an alter. If it wasn't for Reynard Ridge, I would even't be able to post at all. So I just wanted to reassure the equine for whom I am Secret Santa that I am on the job! I won't give it away, but here's a few hints...
you have four legs.
you are not a chicken.
you are a girl or a boy.
you like treats.
There! that narrows it down!
I hope whoever is MY Secret Santa's mom or dad can make an alter. Then maybe my mom can ask them for help.

I HAVE AN ELF!!! This is way cool, because my Mom doesn't!!!
But who's Kim? I don't get my own elf? I have to share? Does this mean I must share my treats?
Maybe I wasn't a good enough equine to get a whole Secret Santa for myself. Shoot. Maybe I should have just given Mom those lengthenings when she faked her way to asking for them. Maybe I should have been better behaved for the chiropractor. Maybe I shouldn't have snuck in to steal someone else's leftover grain.
If I promise to be better next year...? Would you believe me?

I'm stealing my mom's account while she's at work :D Got to make sure I wipe the hoofprints off the keyboard before she gets home so she doesn't catch me using her computer
I've finished shopping for my fellow horse secret santa -- just waiting for a few special treats to arrive before I box up my goodies and send them to my giftee!
My mom said I get to help her shop for her secret santa's horse too! I'm getting really good at this internet shopping stuff!
Oh, and Ted...my mom fed me my first peeps this week! Delicious! I can't believe she was hoarding all those delicious marshmallow treats to herself!

If I promise to be better next year...? Would you believe me?Rest assured four legged one, Kim is not a chicken, Kim is a person and Santa was just trying to tie up less bandwidth (you know what that is, your mom will probably have to look it up on wikipedia) by only creating one new alter for the SS season.
So no, really, you don't have to share your Elf with any other horses, nor are you required to share your treats especially with any of the aforementioned chickens

Good luck, Ted! I am sure good things will be winging your way to your doorstep before you know it!! I, for one, just got a box of mallocream pumpkins (which I will selfishly share with no one except Mr. RR  ) for 50% off at the Ragshop. Yum!!!
Ted the Peep 'Ho
Nov. 10, 2006, 06:59 PM
Dear Chester,
If it is a yellow parrot that is saying, "I am chicken," well, that makes sense, because parrots are big weenies, and I should know, because I am a mighty big weenie myself. But not a chicken.
If it is a yellow part that is claiming to be a chicken, I think they are just trying to be part of the whole Secret Santa thing and I would dismiss them without another thought.
Where I live, there are lots of ducks and chickens. The ducks are cool. They like to divebomb right over your back and go plop in the pond when you are grazing, and when you ignore them it drives them nuts. The baby ducks get very brave and waddle through my legs when I am grazing near the pond, I don't mind because they are fluffy and don't know any better and really, I am not a mean horse.
The chickens, though...they perch in the trees and the roosters make cockadoodledo sounds and run after the hens and they are very mean. And they all walk like they are Mick Jagger.
So any parrot wanting to be a chicken is a parrot you should avoid.
So you know Oliver? Is that Coreene's Oliver? Wow.

Hope all is well for you. My humom says it was quite ironic that I got you as well, I guess I resemble one part of a donkey, she says I can be quite a jack... well, you get the picture.
Besides soft peppermints, what types of other treats do you like? I told my humom that I wanted to try them soft peppermints that Donkey likes and she told me she hasn't been able to find them. Soo, in case she is unable to find them for me (I find it hard to get traction when shopping so she has to shop for me), what else do you like???

Ginny and Imp are both delighted to hear from their elves!! They are otherwise quite miserable right now, evicted from their stalls, wet, muddy, and not being treated like the princesses we know they are. The promise of treats put a smile on their fuzzy faces though.
They are pretty much treat-agnostic, though (I fear this is a sacrilege) not overly fond of Peeps. Of course I have six other heese so a Peep won't go unloved, if G&I deign to share. Minty things and Berry Treats are big faves.

Ted the Peep 'Ho
Nov. 11, 2006, 11:30 AM
ET, I am really not a blingy kind of guy. However, I have stepped up from Big Weenie Status! For real! One of my mom's friends at my barn got a new horse named Chula who is a QH/Andalusian cross, but even so, he is pretty tuff even if he is not a TB. We got to play together. But last night it was raining and hailing and I chased him out of the run in shed.
Wow. I have always been the one chased out. Man, it feels good to be the one doing the chasing.

HEEEEEHAW!!!!!
Donkey checking in here! And glad to hear I have a Secret Santa who resembles me!
Well, got to make this quick as Mom does not know I am in the house (and I want to go back outside and harass the new baby anyway).
I am not picky. I like all horse treats, actually. I like carrots, horse cookies (not sure why they don't make DONKEY cookies, but I'm used to it by now), horse treats, and regular peppermints (the red and white striped ones).
Also, glad you contacted me because I need to change my address. The dog has opened the last three packages that were delivered to our house, (and she likes horse treats too - imagine the horror if she should get into MY treats!!! I already don't like dogs as it is...), so my mom has been having packages delivered to her mom's house, down the street.
I will see if I can figure out how to use the mouse and I will PM you the new address.

So I bought my pony a package of Halloween peeps. As you are the peep-ho, I thought you might have some understanding of this situation.
My pony took looked at the peep, looked at me, took a tentative nibble of the edge of the peep and spat it across the barn! What gives?
My question to you is this. . .are peeps better stale? Refrigerated? Fisher rarely turns down ANYTHING -- including just about anything I might be eating while at the barn.
Any advice would be most appreciated :D
Ted the Peep 'Ho

Peeps are good just about any way there is. I do understand there are horses that don't like them. Weird, I know. But like, there are people who don't like horses, so the world can sometimes be a weird place.
Sometimes the marshmallow fluff is the problem - it's the consistency, because they don't taste the ymmy sugar goodness, they just feel the squish in their mouths - which I think is one of the best parts about peeps.
So I suggest trying a few other things: goodnplenty, black licorice, red licorice, neccos. Snak Pak. NOT apple jacks. Well, I guess if you like apples apple jacks are okay. Candy corn, mellowcreme pumpkins. Coffee cake, oatmeal raisin cookies, graham crackers (the cinnamon sugar coated ones are great).
Do not try Runts. You can bite your tongue trying to eat those suckers.

Heheheh -- mom's finally back at work (after 2 days of torturing me with a Jimmy Wofford jumping clinic) and I have a day off -- so time to play on the internet again!
Ted -- you have great taste in treats! Good'n'plentys are the best! I get those a lot since my mom likes to eat them too -- though I have to watch out or she eats all my treats. The same goes for candy corn and those little pumpkin things. She makes good oatmeal rasin cookies for me too -- apparently people like them too, since she won ribbons at the State Fair for them :D Just so you don't think I only eat candy, apples are good too -- but my mom always makes me share mine with Ace -- my next door fellow ASB -- but Ace is bigger than me and always gets more than his share since he can take bigger bites.
The treats I ordered online came yesterday -- so I'll get my mom to send them out today!

hey tarheel - my first best friend is an ASB - a Radiant Sultan grandson. Not as good, of course, as being a Secretariat grandson, but pretty good still.
My Mom came out last night and it was windy and rainy and nasty/ I was very wet and then she let me roll in the indoor, and there was no way to get me clean enough to ride me, even bareback (heh heh heh) and so Mom just said, fine, we'll do a bit of ground work and you can have a yummy bran mash. Mmmmmm. Turns out pancake syrup works just as well as molasses, did you know that?

Rockshey Rocks, don't feel bad. Some of us are Christmas traditionalists...and some of us don't really get out of school until the first week in December...so while some of you might not get a package until the second week in Dec you might get a proportionally bigger package... (I'm just saying, sometimes it's worth the wait)
I've had Mr ET and my dad busy with getting samples of all the different kinds of horsey treats and feeding them to Luka and his barn mates in a survey style. So far the Mrs Pastures and Berry Goodes seem to be a big hit, as well as the regional-organic goodness ones we seem to have in Portland (we get like licorice, peppermint, carrot, berry, and apple)

Min is slightly grumpy over my shopping for horse goodies that he can't have - oooo, crunchy things! I've been forced to resort to bribes of the remaining Peep-pumpkins (Peempkins?) - which are good, but not so much when you have a mouthful of hay, apparently - and cotton candy. (Too bad I didn't figure out the cotton candy thing this summer, during fair season!)
Geek - let me know if you're still having trouble locating your Christmas peeps - they seem to be in full effect in at least one local grocery store chain - and we'd be happy to send you a few boxes to tide Ted the Tuff over!
I surveyed the COTH-related shopping this morning (after the UPS guy dropped off some of it) - is it bad that I enjoy shopping for people I've never actually met and their horses more than for my parents?
JoZ
Nov. 20, 2006, 02:34 PM
bdj...
No. Not bad. Normal. I swear it.
I have four horse-related recipients (of the Santa type, not counting barn friends) and their shopping is nearly done. My mom and sisters? Well one non-horsey gift for my sisters but it was advertised in my "Tack of the Day" email!!! Otherwise, no gifts, no ideas yet...
bdj
Nov. 20, 2006, 05:30 PM
Whew! Thanks, JoZ - I had a brief moment of guilt when I, upon surveying the nearly completed horse-y shopping, thought, "Whew, thank goodness, I'm almost done Xmas shopping!" And then realized that I still have the 'rents to buy for and a couple of friends, who, while they understand (and support) the horse fixation, aren't getting horse-related presents from me...
Horse people (and horses) are so much more fun (not to mention MUCH easier) to shop for!

Count me in. First, I was very excited to find the snowmen peeps at ShopNSave. ON SALE - it was a sign from above. Debate, debate. Should we expose Ted's Secret Santa giftee to green Christmas trees? Or go with the more traditional, conservative, white snowmen? I went conservative (one of the few times, I confess, and possibly the only time). I debated more about this than what to get some family members. However, I shop all year long, and stack things in the gift closet, so that I am pretty much done by now. But shopping for horse stuff is just so much more fulfilling. I bought some jewelry/cosmetic/bathing-oid stuff for the younger females, and I did it to bring them pleasure, all the while thinking, "WHY would anyone want this stuff when you could have horsie things?"

I am very very excited to be trying new treats. When my mom gives a seminar, she always asks her host to take her to a tack store so she can bring me home something. I enjoy trying regional treats, it makes me feel very sophisticated and erudite (can you tell I am studying for my SATs?). I was the first horse I know of to have a Likit, my mom brought it back from Scotland one time.
I have never tried anything with berries, but I know raisins are good.

Min likes cotton candy - but I think he finds it slightly confusing - it tastes really good, but when you go to chew on it, it disappears!
I don't know about flavors though - Min has only tried purple so far - then again, does cotton candy even come in specific flavors, or is it all just "cotton candy" flavored?
Oh, the other nifty thing about cotton candy (and you'll like this, Ted) is that your person can NOT let you have a little now, and save the rest for later - you HAVE to eat it all right then, because if you leave it on the paper cone, in the bag, it collapses into a weird, semi-sticky, sort of crystalline coating and it becomes too difficult to separate paper from sugary goodness...

My mom is relentless! She woke me up at 5am, pulled me out of my jammies, and stuck me in the trailer not once -- but 3 times this week! 2 days of jumping clinic and a show -- a dressage show no less! At least she let me do a CT class at the dressage show, so there was some jumping -- and I got to show all those hunter ponies how us jumpers do it!
Somehow, in between all that putting me in the trailer and driving me around, my mom took my giftee's box of treats to the post office -- and I think my giftee should get them today!
I hope he likes what I picked out!

Also, this was a very important thread. I learned about cotton candy on this thread. So - has anyone tried the astronaut space ice cream stuff?

Darn - I can't give you Min's take on Astronaut Ice Cream yet - But I'll definitely add it to the list of stuff to make him try...
Min did let me know that he doesn't care for SnoCones, though - I even got a great big Green Apple flavored one to share with him, once - and he LIKES apples (even though he doesn't get to eat them in whole form anymore)...
I did consider trying to make him an apple or carrot granita, though... but that might have to wait till summer... 40 degrees with wind and rain doesn't really feel like granita weather to me...
I'll have to keep the cotton candy machine in mind - I can just imagine my future/hoped for 4 stall barn one day - Pitchfork and wheelbarrow-check, water buckets-check, feed buckets-check, stall guards-check, cotton candy machine-check!

Try granola bars. I just make sure they have no nuts. The added benefit is that it's like bringing dinner to the barn. You know, a bite for me, here's some for you.
When I snarf down the candy corn or pumpkins I do hide that. But the peeps - you have to bite their heads off so that you don't give your horse a live peep, because they are vegetarians. I know these things. I'm a scientist.

IMP - If you're reading this, look away from the computer or else Santa won't send you any goodies!
OK... now that that's done (IMP, you better not be looking - Santa knows if you've been bad or good, dontcha know!)
You can always find Astronaut Ice Cream at the Air and Space Museum at the Smithsonian... that being said, because, really, how often do you go to the Smithsonian (and I even live within an hour of it)... for the rest of the world, try your local outdoorsy outfitter - think REI, or EMS (Eastern Mountain Sports), or HTO (Hudson Trail Outfitters) - why they all have initial-y names is beyond me - if you don't have those chains, you might have Galyans or something else like that- but most carry dehydrated camping food, and the good places have dessert-y items like dehydrated strawberries and freeze-dried ice cream... I KNOW I've seen it at REI before, and I'm sure the other places have it too...
OK, IMP, you can look again...

We're sending our package out on Monday - it gives us the rest of the weekend to add in any nifty extra goodies we might find! And gives me time to properly decorate the package!
Min is happy, as we're sending along some of his favorite goodies to his giftees - so he DID get to do a little bit of taste-testing, after all! (Of course, he didn't get to taste test until AFTER we tested out his new super cushy fleece half-pad - poor old man - had to walk around with me on him for a whole 5 minutes yesterday - what a rough life... ;) )

*Sigh*
My mom is relentless! She woke me up at 5am, pulled me out of my jammies, and stuck me in the trailer not once -- but 3 times this week! 2 days of jumping clinic and a show -- a dressage show no less! At least she let me do a CT class at the dressage show, so there was some jumping -- and I got to show all those hunter ponies how us jumpers do it!
Somehow, in between all that putting me in the trailer and driving me around, my mom took my giftee's box of treats to the post office -- and I think my giftee should get them today!
I hope he likes what I picked out!
~ Sprite ~
Dear Sprite,
I stole my mom's alter and got online while she's got the flu or a sinus infection or something. I hope she has to take that Air Power stuff she made me swallow everyday when I had a cough.
I did get your information and have been checking up on you. I think it's cool that you already event. I know I can do it too. We just gotta get my mom trained. She got a lot better this summer so I think next season we might get to go do something called hunter pacing. I bet that's fun because I like to track stuff in the woods and I can do a jig that's sorta like a pace. I bet I'm good at that too.
My mom had me do some free jumping on the lunge line a little while ago and I heard her saying lots of "Holy $h!t"s so I think I impressed her with my hops. Yeah, I got skills she ain't seen yet. My daddy had big hops and I got it from him. I'll have to tell dad to get to work on jump standards that are taller than 4 foot, cause I did that 3'6" oxer like it was nothing. I admit I was showing off a little when I cleared it by about 18" once, but it wasn't hard and I thought maybe if I got her to go look at the video recording I could eat some more of the pasture while she did that.
Anyways, I'm not a typical jumping horse either. Mom's trainer has made that perfectly clear too although I think I did win her over a little the last few lessons we had when I got to jump outside in the big ring. I was a star. :) Jut gotta keep mom on her toes.
Anywho... I personally hate licorice, but if you like em I do know they keep a good supply of em on hand in town. My mom is pretty good with the treat ideas even though I have VERY definite opinions on things. I like what I like and mom is good at accomodating.
So, have no fear I will make sure she gets you all the good stuff. I'll play keep away in the muddy pasture if she doesn't. He he he. Heck, I might do that just for fun anyway. :) That is unless she has a Stud Muffin for me. I think I'd do just about anything for one of those things. Those must be how that got those diving horses to do that stuff. Those Stud Muffins are sooooo gooooood. MMMMM. Mom's been in the kitchen baking for the other SS my sister has, but I'll tell her to try a few other recipes too for you.
Have fun jumping! Keep up the good work. Talk to you later.
Your SS on her mom's SS alter. LOL.

Rats! Cursed weather!
Hi, Ginny here. Mom doesn't know I'm in the house but it's cooooold out there. Yes I was born in Alberta but I was born in May and came to Washington in October, so I only know what my dam told me about Snow and Ice and Freezingness. It's not supposed to happen in Washington, or so Mom has said. That's why she moved here from Massatwocents (or something like that).
And we already had a 100-year flood this month, and now snow! Mom says she expects locusts next but I don't know what that means or whether it's a good thing.
Oh, I did have a point, I did! Mom gets her mail at a Box in the next Town. And as much as I have told her that she NEEDS TO GO THERE, she says the roads are too bad. This is all wrong, I am the Pony Princess and I want my goodies NOW.
Of course I have a manger full of good hay and a snug barn and Mom to lug water because the hoses are frozen. So I guess I'll just go back out there, keep munching and wait (im)patiently...
Thank you thank you thank you... in advance.

I have caught the Pony Princess (telltale hoofprints on the keyboard) and ushered her back out to the barn. What a drama queen she is (grrr... grrr... warm house... grumble... sniff... package at the PO Box... whine... sniff... Pony Princess... wah).
I don't want to reveal who my Santees are but I am still waiting for something in the mail (at same PO Box, so it could be there, but I may not get there to check until tomorrow). Realistically my packages probably won't go out until Saturday, but that's really only December 2, right? I'm not feeling guilty or grinchish yet so I hope no one feels that way on the receiving end!

OH ELF! I am the most happiest, most spoiled Pony Princess EVER! Mom finally went to her Box and brought me my very own, my very first CHRISTMAS STOCKING! Mom says it has my NAME on it too! Mom seems to think the stocking is the best thing ever but I have to admit to being even more interested in all of the yummies I can smell inside. It is CHOCK FULL of great stuff!!! None of them look or smell familiar -- Mom says we don't have them around here (well why not???).
What a wonderful surprise and treat, you are THE BEST! Mom says she will clean me up (ABOUT TIME) and take a picture of me with my stocking this weekend. I love having my picture taken. Mom thinks I'm cute.
Thank you thank you thank you, from the bottom of my (big fuzzy) tummy!

I am so happy the parcel made it over the border. I am so glad you get to enjoy all those yummy treats. The Star ones are my new favorite. My humom picked a package up during a recent trip to Calgary from Edmonton and they are yum, yum, yummy! although, my step-bro Tigger doesn't agree with me. His favorite are those yummy stud muffins (I admit I like those too). In the little container at the bottom of your stocking, that actually contains two different types of treats. The ones at the bottom are peppermint and on top are get regular flavored, but they are both good.

Yo Imp!! - this is official notice that your package was cleared for departure early this morning. I expect it will arrive by midweek, barring the usual sleigh delays (deicing a sleigh isn't easy!). There also seems to be a HUGE amount of air traffic. I will try and navigate as best I can to get your treats to you safely!
There is something in there for the other horses, just traditional stuff, so you don't have to share the good stuff! And something for your mom, so she will be in a good mood and let you have lots of treats.

Well, I have been shortchanged lately. Mom didn't make it out Thursday or Friday because the roads were so bad. She came out Saturday, but it took her a while becaus eof the roads. And I was perfectly happy sunning myself with my buddy Chula - the sun was out, it reflected off all that ice and snow, and since I'm so dark it was very relaxing. Can you believe it? THAT'S when she came out to see me! But she couldn't stay long as she was worried about driving on all that ice when it got dark. So I got some spooky cat peeps and a small mash, but that was it.
Mom didn't make it out yesterday because the electric company decided enough people weren't out of power and they shut the power to the school for two hours and ruined a bunch of stuff. And it was cold, so all she would have done is picked out my feet and given me treats, which is as it should be.
I suspect she will come out tonight. IF she ever finishes up at work. I suspect she is playing on the computer. Sheesh.

Dear Elf -- I am SO happy and excited! My mom has been giving me some of Ginny's treats (which gets Ginny's knickers in a twist, let me tell you) but I'm eagerly anticipating MY OWN gift box. Dear Linus (and his mom, ImJumpin),
My mom FINALLY delivered your present to me today (she thinks being on vacation was some sort of excuse), and I LOFFED the treats. I am trying to convince my little sister to teach me how to break out of my stall tonight (she is a pro at this activity) so I can have some more. I even told her I would let her have one or two, but she says I wouldn't be able to fit my nose in the jar, anyway. Oh, well.
It is very nice to have a present from someone that is really yummy! Lots of times when I get presents they are really Poisonous Things like Licorice or Peppermint Candies. But the treats you send are all yummy goodness! My mom better come back tomorrow and give me some more!
Love,
Jude
PS Mom told me she is a slacker (actually, I think she said, "jet lagged," but I don't know what that means) and will have the packages from me and my sister out in the mail tomorrow. We told her which yummy treats to make and buy, so it will be worth the wait!

Jaybird received a big box of goodies from his friends in North Dakota.
The huge 3lb+ bag of peppermint discs is going to be shared with the other horses at the barn. Almost everyone there loves peppermints. We are not sure of the new hunter princes converting to Dress-sassage but it is an important part of the training.
there are two bags of Ginger Ridge horse cookies: Meadow mints and Super stars. These are new and Jay has never had them before so I am sure they will become a new obscession
And Jolly Ranchers. Jay's elf says they are a barn favorite at her place so we will see how it goes with he who loves everything.
A fresh , home made bag of muffins with a recipie card :D . I will call these Moose Muffins bacuse they induced nickering on a horse silent for 2 years. His momma says he sounds like a moose, but I am sure it is music to her ears.
and finally
a box of christmas tree PEEPS which will not be shared and are all for the President of the Sugar Coated Sugar Fan Club
Thanks you to our North Dakota elf and her two handsome steeds. You handsome photo goes up on our photo board so we can think of you often.

The peeps came at an opportune time, Ted. As hard as it may be for you to believe, Imp is not a peep ho. In fact, out of eight horses, I have only one peep ho, my buckskin tobiano mare Nique. Nique is still out in the indoor turnout (basically big empty barn) because her stall isn't dry enough for her to have a "home". And she, an ex-PMU mare, is difficult to approach and touch under the best of circumstances. A month without human/stall contact and the girl is going feral. Today she will have a snowman peep offered to her and she will come over to this side again!!!
Honestly, it was an absolutely wonderful package, and Imp and I are both thrilled to have had TED (I mean, TED) as a Secret Santa. My girls both did reeeeeeeally well this Christmas!
Oh and the kitty frame is adorable and it really didn't take up too much treat room, Ted. It's very fitting because Imp is particularly fond of cats (as am I of course). And the cats really love her... she is very gentle and curious, just like a kitty!

I forsee no peep crisis for Ted this spring!...hmmm...wonder if wooly worms could predict the peep availability...or if it's in the Farmer's Almanac...

Dear Donkey of Wild Oaks Farm,
Thanks for the treats. I haven't had time to try them yet because mom has been too busy jamming her face with butter cookies. They are one of her holiday achilles heels, along with Lindt truffles. The apples smell yummy too and the wrapping was just SO cute. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Hey Donkey... your treats rocked! I know normally I'm really fussy and a PITA about treats and stuff, but you totally did a great job! I liked the carrot crunchers, but I LOVE THE APPLES! I think your mom should tell my mom where she found em. Usually it takes me a little while to decide if I like a new food and I usually make a funny face about it while I decide, but the apples - ALL YUMMY! 4 hooves up from me. I also don't think it's fair mom is making my treats "last" when her cookies were gone in one night. Hmmmph. Anyways, I love my goodies. Thanks so much! :D

Valour (aka Tigger) received his parcel from Tipperary last week, however, being the mean Humom I am, I am making him wait until his adopted brother, Freddy receives his.
So Thank you Tipperary, I would thank your person, but their name wasn't included. BTW, so you can see what Valour looks like, this is him in all his bratty glory.

If Ted's SS is reading, and if there are perishable items - do NOT send. I will be gone as of tomorrow, and the receiving dept at the university will be closed until Jan 2.

I have been so remiss in thanking Appy48 and Joey for Fisher's wonderful treats! He has been enjoying them greatly and has even allowed his human to share a mint or two
He is especially in love with the horse cookies and will molest anyone he suspects might have one on their person!
Fisher believes that Appy48 and Joey (who is a loffly, loffly boy!) should pick out his treats more often!!! :D
Thank you again for our wonderful gifts!!

Imp did receive her gifts! Ted was Imp's SS (he said "hubba hubba" when he saw her lovely pic). They were sent out - mm...10 days, 2 weeks ago? And they were received within the week.
Maybe JoZ and I PM'd, I can't remember that far back. But it turns out Ted was a pretty good SS.
By the way...did Imp like the Neccos? The sugar pops? I'm sure the starlight mints, bran mash and stud muffin oid homemade treats were well received, as they were Ted tested beforehand.

Well, as you can see by my name I had Donkey at Wild Oaks Farm. I had my humom mail the package a long time ago, in fact at the same time she mailed my 1/2 brothers off to his partner. I know his partner received his gift. However, I don't know if Donkey received the one I sent. :(
I am one sad little horse.

So anyone else's horses still waiting for their package? Freddy is still patiently waiting for his, and Tigger is sulking because I won't let him have his until Freddy receives his.

Min finally got to taste the strawberry and vanilla flavors of freeze dried ice cream (I had to try to chocolate first, just in case we got a poisoned batch or something - the things I'm willing do for my horse! ;)
The verdict - it was perfectly acceptable, but not as good as Peep Christmas trees or Christmas marshmalllows. Personally, I'd kind of forgotten how you have to hold it in your mouth for a minute to make it taste right, but Min got the gist of it right away - I gave him a bite, he took it and then.... waited a bit before he swallowed. He happily ate several more pieces before I stopped offering - at $2 a block, it's not a very cost effective treat...

Kementari should be recieving a package shortly...not only did Tari's SS send the treats out late, they were sent back because apparently I've lost my brain and left TWO recieving addresses on the box...the box was shipped back to me, one of the recieving addresses, and then re-shipped to Tari after the Post Office had a good laugh...:uhoh: So very sorry. Hope Tari likes the treats...they're my beastie's favorites!!

Imp did receive her gifts!
Yes indeed and she had me thank you immediately (see posts 105, 106, 108 in addition to a PM).
Ted was Imp's SS (he said "hubba hubba" when he saw her lovely pic).
Imp was pretty wowed by having Ted as her Santa too. Her pic which is my profile pic was taken when she was a yearling -- she's bigger and hairier, scarred from purpura and older than her years due to teen pregnancy... but to me she is still a beautiful young mare!
By the way...did Imp like the Neccos? The sugar pops? I'm sure the starlight mints, bran mash and stud muffin oid homemade treats were well received, as they were Ted tested beforehand.
The Neccos seem to have jumped out of the box... I've searched many times since you listed they should be in there. But I grew up in the shadow of the New England Confectionary building (almost literally) so Neccos are well known to me. In fact I'm in Boston right now so if I see some I bring them home to try. The sugar pops were a big hit with Imp *and* Ginny. Me too. The cotton candy got mixed results, surprise being one of them! ("What IS this odd disappearing THING in my mouth?!!") I haven't made up the bran mash, what with weather oddities and holiday travel, but planned all along to give it as a New Year's Eve or Day treat, and I will be home for that. This package (and Ginny's from PaulaM) are the gifts that keep on giving!

For this reason I also haven't been able to post my box yet. Paula- please apologize to Freddy for me! I promise it'll get there soon enough!

JoZ - if you can't get any Neccos let me know. We have LOTS.
We are almost Necco Central.
The last roll I lucked out, it was almost all frooty ones (which I eat) and not many minty oid ones (which I give to Ted) so I was forced to share. But that almost never happens.

Dear equusrocks,
My mom says she didn't even tell you what my favoritist brand of treats was, but you got it for me anyway! I think this Secret Santa thing is just the best, and told Mom we should do it year-round.

Oh wow, JoZ sent Charlie the most delicous looking snacks. I think they are horse snacks but they look good enough for me to eat in all honesty. And they are soft as well.
It also looks like there are some of Dressage Geeks homeade horse muffins as well which are a real hit with all my toothless friends. Starbucks coffee for me.
JoZ, thankyou so much. Funny that I was your SS too. Charlie is a very special rescue and i will be so proud to give him his treats and make him feel like he is important. Charlie is one horse who has continued to hang onto his reservations about the human population. Food will always bring him to me though and extra good food will go a long way in developing a bond. Bless you from Charlie Horse.

Candy got her box from JoZ today too and HOLY COW!!!!!! It was a big box and I just figured there was lots of padding. WRONG! There was lots of everything. Those Galloping Goodies do look like awful yummy brownies. Candy shared a bit of her loot with her barnmate since Casey shared when her box came first. You should see Candy eat donuts though. Her eyes glaze over and she is in heaven. Thank you so much. You really went all out and Candy thanks you very, very much. (My husband thanks you for the apple pie he swiped too. LOL.)

I'm glad you guys enjoyed the snacks and sorry again they were so late. But snackies are timeless I guess!
Snkstacres: no, those were not Dressage Geek's treats... none of THEM made it out of my barn. But they are pretty darn good, say the heese of Off Our Rocker Ranch.
Palomino Morgan: although the pastries were purchased fresh the day I (finally) sent the box, I was worried they'd be too stale or beat up for Miss Candy... guess not! My horses had never tried any pastry but I bought a few samples the day before, and apple fritters and maple frosting got the big "hooves up".
The horse treat Santa-ing was fun AND educational, and my herd will reap the benefits from now on.

Well I'm glad you like them Tari!! And you might be able to spare one or two more for your brother, no?? Have a great new year, be a good girl!!
And I also would like to thank my SS for the lovely treats. Mom couldn't get enough of the chocolate and wouldn't give me any, but I totally kept all of the treats for myself!! Thank you so much...but I forgot what your name was...Sorry!!! Mom spilled water all over the card and it's not legible... I swear, if it weren't for me she'd be lost all the time.
I had fun, and sorry the treats were late Tari!!

Well, I ripped off the studmuffin recipe from somewhere on COTH, so it wouldn't surprise me if many made their own version.
Donuts, hmmm? Haven't tried that yet. Well, no, that's not true. We did try part of a Krispy creme, and it was well received. But I worry so much about the fat, as opposed to the sugar.

I discovered Candy liked donuts kind of by accident. I had agreed to purchase her but she still had a foal at her side. She was in rough shape and this was kind of a rescue purchase (even though I was smitten with her personality once she had energy to perk up a bit.) I was going to visit her and didn't have any treats with me. I happened to be in the local bakery and they had a bag of the day old's for a buck or something like that. Just 6 donuts smushed in to one bag. I offered them to her and she wouldn't even wait for them to get out of the bag. She ended up with vanilla filling in her ears and it was all I could do not to let her eat the bag. She was about 250 pounds underweight at the time so no worry about the calories for her at that time. The local grocery store used to have a dozen glazed on the clearance rack quite often and I'd get a box for her. BO at the time would swipe one or two for herself and Candy would get about one a day for the next week. We don't do donuts too often anymore, but she still loves them. :)
