View Full Version : What practical product do you wish someone would market?

I would like to see someone come up with covers for muck buckets, et al, so they could be used for storage. I've been using heavy duty garbage bags on top with binder twine tied around my manure tubs to keep the odor and flies down until I can haul the stuff to the manure pile--it helps a lot btw--nary a fly!!! If I wasn't so lazy I'd make some myself, but who has any spare time--not I.

Evalee Hunter suggested using a spare tire cover but those things cost twice as much as my cheapo muck tub and it would cost me a small fortune to outfit six of them (at least $80.)! Not to mention that the covers are made of vinyl and would be around probably long after I'm dead--heck, I'd have to leave them to someone in my will....

What do you wish someone would market????

Wow. I like that litter picker, wonder how it would work with poo piles? And I'm afraid to even guess at cost. Maybe I'll give 'em a call just out of curiosity.;)

I wish Rubbermaid (or someone) would make a stock tank that was double walled
with space between the inner and outer walls for insulation. We have to heat our
tanks all winter and the cost is high enough that we have to insulate between the
tank and a larger junker tank that we put around the in use tank so we can put
insulation between. Would look better and probably last longer if we could simply
buy a tank made with double walls.

dawglover
Jun. 13, 2006, 12:45 PM
We built a wooden box bigger than the stock tank and lined it with styrofoam. It keeps the water from freezing unless it gets down in the teens. Its PITA to clean the tank by myself, tho.
I too wish they would come up with something self insulated.

a little tiny person I could store in my tack trunk, take out when I need help lifting and carrying....it would inflate, work, deflate and jump back in my tack trunk. :D

Portable tack/equipment/clothes storage...for shows etc...designed for function rather than looks and that didn't cost more than the horse.

I want the horse clothing companies to start using the 'Buzz Off' materials, suitably reinforced for horses, for fly masks and at least the edges of fly sheets. If you haven't seen it, there are shirts with permethrin (the Buzz Off fabric) in them that repel bugs for people.

We have these in NZ!!! They are called Tow'n'Collect and are gaining popularity. I think they are about $3000US to buy.

Are you serious? You have anti bug shirts?! So are they disposable or can you re-use them? Does washing them decrease effectiveness? Are they expensive? Wow. I want some.

I wish someone would invent an extra arm. For the same reason as the little gnome.

Or perhaps some sort of bucket cover (retractable) that prevents the sloshing of water any place you have to carry water to. I hate that - I get there and not only is about a third of the water gone, but also it's in my SHOES.

I want some kind of product that keeps wraps from tanging together in the wash. You know, No More Tangles but for leg wraps. Something that would just make them slither past other wraps without feeling the need to merge into one pretzellized mess.

All for the poop powered vehicle. Then I could justify going to the barn when I have other stuff to do!

A self-cleaning stall, complete with complimentary self-cleaning feed and water buckets.

I also wish someone would invent a horse that stays clean (clean by human standards, not their own!)

And, I wish someone would invent a saddle that fit Lit!

All you have to do is stick them in a mesh laundry bag:) It keeps them from getting tossed around so much and tangling with eachother. One like this, but obviously smaller: http://www.lnt.com/sm-the-bag-company-mesh-laundry-bag-24-x-36-white--pi-1362033.html. They have them at Wal-Mart, etc.

I've been having to do a serious leg wrap on a crazy horse every 3 days. It uses $15 worth of products and takes up to half and hour to complete. I wish someone would invent a half-leg wrap, complete with proper medicine attached, that I could just whip on in one movement. I owned a velcro closing quilt wrap, but it's fairly useless. I mean something tight that would stay on for a week at a time.

Not to hijack the thread, but...

I have a pair of pants and a long sleeve shirt from Buzz Off, and yes they work. They can handle about 30 - 35 washings before losing effectiveness (but they still are great outdoor clothing, so I'd still wear it). I LOVE mine.

I would love something like this for horse masks.

A DECENT hay bag. I spent 20 bucks EACH on some nice LOOKING ones...First time out, horse tore a corner loose. Ok, he's hard on them...but second time out, in less than 3 hours, one of the two top straps tore completely off the top. and they weren't even tearing into their boring old grass hay- just happily munching.Come ON already. The 9 dollar ones I had were crappy but lasted about 2 years. I've lost the receipt so I am going to call the Tack Shop and ask what to do. You can look at them and see how knew they are, LoL- still black and purty and not gnawed on..

So - a tough, decent, hay bag. That's all.

A bush hog that I can pull with my truck. Wouldn't be a good idea on the two steep hills I have but would be great for two of the pastures. Can't afford a tractor and am currently at the mercy of my neighbor. A portable (and affordable) electronic post hole digger. Then, I'd like to clone myself so I can be removing wallpaper and painting the house and still be able to ride and do yard work.

A saddle like Wintec and Bates, but where the whole gullet channel changed sizes, or the whole tree was removable and replaceable instead of just the front gullet plate thing. I wish someone would invent a diagnostic tool that I could just plug into the horse like they do at the auto shop, and it would tell me what's wrong and I could then fix it.

Ok, so out of curiosity I e-mailed the buzz off people to see if they had any plans to make horsie stuff, and here's what they said:

"BUZZ OFF Insect Shield achieved EPA registration for insect-repellent apparel in July 2003. Last year (’05) BUZZ OFF achieved EPA approval for BUZZ OFF “gear,” which includes horse products. We are talking to a couple of companies that want to offer BUZZ OFF gear for horses, so there will probably be some items on the market within the next year or so.

Ariat plans to start offering a few styles of BUZZ OFF riding apparel (for humans) later this year.

We’ve had a lot of inquiries from equestrians, and we are working on getting some products out there."

Yipee!

I love the old Sarvis curry combs that have a hose attachment for washing horses, but they are too stiff and sharp for sensitive skinned horses. I wish some of the soft curry comb makers would come out with a model with hose attachment. Most effective way to get all the dirt out down to the skin. I am going to try the wand, but not the same idea.

How about leg wraps that remotely resemble a horse's leg. Contoured to fit. I worked for quite a while figuring out how to dart and sew one and got absolutely nowhere. Plumcreek- Try a net bath scrungie (made for people) found at Walgreens, grocery stores, walmart. They hold alot more water/soap and scrub deep down to the skin. Plus they are great on legs, since they aren't stiff/inflexible like curries. My horse loves his.

Cherry- Ck Home Base/Home Depot/Walmart for Gas Grill covers. They are waterproof, cheap, and have a drawstring type closure or elastic closure that you could tighten around the top of the muck bucket.

Amen to your idea and here's another:

a saddle rack that holds the saddle in the correct position when cleaning and oiling - i.e. when I raise the flap to clean underneath, either the saddle flips off the rack or the rack flips over totally...uggggh (and I am a neat saddle freak...have to be with the prices that saddles are these days) so I guess I did sort of find a new way: Wintec...lol, just damp wipe and good to go...

What do you wish someone would market????

Mega garbage cans with fitted lids and wheels. You can close them so the flies dont hover, and you can wheel them to the manure pile instead of transfering the manure to a cart and then taking the whole back breaking mess over to the manure pile.
