Today I picked up two baby turkeys (maybe 2-3 weeks old?) for my in-law's. Unfortunately they are out of town, so I have these two babies in a cardboard box on my living room table until tomorrow afternoon. I gave them a low/shallow bowl of water, but have no idea what to feed them. Google is making my head spin. Please help.

Go to the grain store and buy a bag of non-medicated turkey starter crumbles.

That's the catch... my feed store closed at 5pm.

I would set up my dog's x-pen in the yard if they would forage. Would they?

I do have access to chicken feed. Would that work for the night?

They need to eat something, Layer pellets would be ok but if the chicken feed is pellets then they may not be old enough to eat them and you might have to grind them up into 'crumbles' so they will eat.

If the chicken feed is pellets you could also make a mash out of them. The little guys usually need crumbles, though I'm not sure how small a baby turkey actually is.

(Also, it's a rule that you can't post about baby anything without a picture!)

Oatmeal will do until you can get some starter feed.

You could also check out backyardchickens.com

They have a section on Turkeys where you may find the answer you're looking for.

Turkeys also LOVE greens. They eat clover and dandelions like crazy.

Thanks for all your advice! They survived the night, but not for lack of trying. Apparently they can fly. One escaped the tall box and ran into a dog crate. Thankfully said dog was outside. Now they are safely contained in a small dog crate of their own.

They ate some of the chicken feed and all of the oatmeal. Thanks for the tip about greens. I'll send the kids out to look for dandelions in the yard.

I swear they look bigger today. They sure do grow fast!

They go to their new home tonight. :D
