I am MargaretF and I keep my horse, Phyllis (Twilight)at Merrymount Equestrian Center in Upper Marlboro, MD.

I ride with Catherine Farley, and Kenny Krome when Catherine can't come to shows.

Moesha is my dear friend and show buddy, even though he is mean to me sometimes and makes fun of me, just because I am a lowly adult jumper rider and not as cool as he is, now that he is an amateur owner jumper rider and thinks he's all that.

Hey Margaret, the first riding lessons I ever took were at Merrymount. I was 7 years old, and the place was almost new. /infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif You can figure out for yourself how long ago that was.

We're in Monkton, which is in the northern part of MD. If you pass our exit you go over the Penn state line /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif It's a very horsey little area, Jack Stedding has some stalls at my trainer's barn, as well as across the street, so we have a great time in our ring most days. Also, the hunt meets right down the road, and anyone who rides can be found at the Manor Tavern, which is a blessed two miles away /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

hey you nags -- the horse wasn't King, was it? If so, he's still at Merrymount! They have a couple left over from the old days.

another vote for Bel Air, MD here... although i respectfully disagree with Alison that our town is more properly called "land of houses," since they just seem to sprout straight outta the ground /infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif .

horses live in the backyard, where the lovely State Roads types had to build a tunnel under Rt 924 so the horses could get from one pasture to the other. the highway went thru in the early 80's and took 10acres right straight out of the middle of the farm-- blah.

I have one horse, Dunn by Picasso. He lives at Marriotsville Ridge Farm in Marriotsville MD. Our trainer is Courtney Luiza.

However I go to college in Chambersburg, PA, so I only see my beast on occasional weekends. I still haven't found a good place to ride up here besides at school, so I'm down to only riding a couple days a week during the school year.

My husband and I just purchased an old farm house down the road "a piece" from Cresida. We're gutting it and completely re-doing it. (Unfortunately, our old house sold WAY before the new on is going to be finished, so we're living our of boxes and suitcases for now) When the house is finished, then we'll start on the barn and fencing. But for now, the horses are 3 miles from the new house, which is all in Hartwood, Va (Stafford County near the Faquier line). I work in Woodbridge (hopefully I'll get ETBW out to lunch sometime) and live in Stafford, hunt in Westmoreland, Caroline, Essex, and King George.

I grew up in Richmond, Va until I got married and moved up here. I boarded at Owl's Nest and Green Arbour Lake amoung others.

We generally arrive between 9 and 10 am and linger about until the food/drink is gone or the park closes (left after dark last time and the jumper show was still going on around front /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif )

We meet behind the indoor, follow the signs to the Cross country course.

I'm in Fairfax. I have two dogs, JRs named Sassy and Pippen. I keep the Buster-man at Cavallo.

Kennett Square is a pal of mine and we are both members of the Insane Trainers Who Have Full Time Jobs and Teach Nights and Weekends and Chase Points Ad Nauseum, or ITWHFTJTNWCPAN (pronounced It Whiff Taj Tan Wac Pan). You can also order this as a dish at Thai restaurants. It is chicken with peanut sauce on water cress - - slighty spicy.

I also have a cowboy and Kennett Square wants a ride on his private jet (which of course I tour on constantly) called The Super Jack.

I guess I only sort of belong since I live in WV (Martinsburg). But I travel through MD via MARC to my job in DC.

Let's see, I have a 4-1/2 TBx (by a Paint out of a 7/8 TB, 1/8 Trak) who's now 17H. He doesn't have a real job yet but we're doing lots of flatwork and trail riding. Given his complete nonchalance on the trails, maybe he'd like to be an eventer. (Personally, I think those XC fences are really *scary*!)

So even though I'm in WV do I get to join the club?

I have been lurking for awhile and love these BBs. I live in Manassas VA but am originally from Rochester NY. I had Quarter Horses growing up but am horseless now and instead raise and show Springer Spaniels. I am trying to find a good place to start riding again - where they are good to the adults who haven't ridden seriously for years. I drag my friends and my dogs to as many of the point to points as possible during the year.

Also, there is a sort of schooling show for dogs at FFP on the 24th so be prepared for a lot of cars in the parking areas.

You CAN'T miss the RV! Honest, it is a 1972 Chevy Step Van painted white and canary/mustard yellow with generator running, extension cords out the passenger window and a gazillion crock pots plugged in.

Mr. Wings and I bring barbecue, meatballs or chili, quiche lorraine w/asparagus, crab mini quiches, assorted cheeses and crackers, vegie tray and dip.

Other BBers bring great stuff, too! Sodas (we imbibe but must be discrete as it is a no-alchohol park), juices, ice, chips, pretzels, cookies, cakes, brownies, paper products, etc.

Auntie Pat has a PTA function sized coffee pot. HN73 made fabulous baked cheddar pastry wrapped olives, Breezymeadow made delicious potato salad, complete with Peeps!. So many people brought yummy stuff. Elghund does fabulous food!.

We went through two veggie trays last time. Was there shrimp cocktail? I don't remember it all.

My husband and I live on a small farm with six equines, two canines and a horde of squatters (feral cats) who took up residence uninvited but who we have been feeding and catching as we can (13 caught and fixed, about 7 to go).

I would love to join the FFP outing and have actually thought of setting such an outing as a goal for getting my horses going again...however unless I could bring a mare who we first sat on again last week after two years off for motherhood (and she was very good about it but is extremely unfit) or a gelding that has been off for nearly three years for an injury who we also sat on last week, or should I say we pongo sticked around on for about 15 minutes....I think we will have to wait for a similar outing in the spring.

Thanks, Lorree, but through personal experience, I *already* know what happens, which is why I always wear a helmet, even to hop on and walk around the paddock with halter and leadrope for 2 minutes.

Unfortunately, Physics is a requirement for a BS Geology degree, even though I completed all of my Geology courses (and received A's) without first taking either Physics or Chemistry or Calculus (which I have to take next semester /infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif ) .

way back in the day, though, i ponies rode w/ Donna Sullivan for eons... then my horse and i switched to dressage and rode with Mary DiBastiani.

also, as far as Baltimore-area barns... try Goucher College and/or Tranquility Manor Farm. i'm not really in the h/j loop around here anymore, so others will probably have more suggestions for ya, but that's someplace to start.

Donna has Fairfields Farm, in Jarretsville... and always had a TON of pony kids, and a few in the Jr. Hunters, Workings, etc too.

Depending on when you showed, some of the most successful critters in her barn have been: (ponies) Baltimore Watcher, Tiger Lily, Evening News, Billy Ripken, Boy Watcher Two, and so many more. in the horse ring, there was: Dust Dancer, Bachelor Buttons, June Light, and Breezy Forecast.

I know there have been more, but those are the ones I can recall now. Hope it helps!

PeekABoo... I showed with Donna from like 87-95, mediums and larges. and yes, T'more was hell on wheels to try and beat; talk about a fancy pony. Cari and I never really showed against each other, though; most of my pony competiton came from Beth Baldwin (It Takes Two) and Katie Dippel (Cabaret, Shades of Summer) in the early 90's. (hehe... and you probably just missed showing against me in the larges /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif had to retire mine in 1992)

Fairweather... No, T'more was a large BRIGHT chestnut pony w/ chrome... but Donna's barn always showed BCHSA too. the big bay was probably a horse, and most likely Dust Dancer-- big TB mare w/ a star. it seems that at one point or another, all the kids showing Jr. Hunters from there had a bay. LOL. Of course, I would have to be different and have the bright chestnut mare (sold her; last I heard she'd been shown and sold out of Hunting Ground by Laurie Kiser).

Waters Edge is in Sykesville- I take lessons with Natalie Compton-
They're an event farm (about an hour away from Balto)- and have wonderful horses. Definitely one of the nicest places I've ever ridden at. I highly highly recommend them if you're looking for lessons, boarding or a sales horse (not a plug-just da truth!).

I think one of the reasons I like them so much is that they were willing to exchange art for lessons and riding time (check out my portrait of Natalie on her horse Leggs at www.naominickerson.com) (http://www.naominickerson.com)).
Which is great because, as an impoverished grad student who loves to ride, I had few options... :-)

Their website is www.watersedgefarmllc.com (http://www.watersedgefarmllc.com) you should check it out!

I'm a grad student at the Maryland Institute College of Art in the Hoffberger School of Painting. I'll get an MFA when I graduate.

I think I have a connection with everyone on this BB!!!

I grew up in Hagerstown, moved to Shepherdstown, after college in Mass (MHC), I taught at Oldfields for a year (a pony named Tiger Lily was born while I was there below the Mullens' house) and then rode timber horses in Monkton (know that Manor Tavern VERY well), lived with my sister in BelAir and then moved to Federal Hill. Then moved back to Shepherdstown, (but work in Hagerstown), where I am with my horses on the farm, travelling to places in MD/VA/DC, etc!!! I am now an infrequent visitor to Mosby's and haven't coordinated myself to attend a COTH affair, but promise to next time!

all my friends talk about six degrees of separation from me!

I remember the No Way Jose Cafe! Also was a regular at Sissons and Regis.
I don't remember Philadelphia. She had ponies at the time, Snoopy and another. Whatever happened to her sister, Liberty. I used to call her Cinderella, because they always left her in the house to cook and clean while Laurel rode and played.
I do ride in the area and have forever. My parents foxhunted with New Market (before they merged with Middletown) and then Antietam (with whom my Grandfather hunted in the 20s and had a polo team in Williamsport at the WDByron tannery), my siblings and I all grew up in pony club, first Antietam and then Shenandoah Valley (got my A at Frying Pan and have spent many rallies and events there).
I have my horses and boarders at home and ride a lot in Berryville, Virginia and in Middletown, Maryland and hunt in Virginia and Maryland. NMMVH hunts my farm in Shepherdstown, too!

Who the hell knows about the bridge thing. Something to look snazzy for RPCS's centennial perhaps? Tired of paying crossing guards maybe? Shave a minute of the walk to Gilman?

I will be here after I graduate, yes... although I'm being pushed by former bosses to go out on senate races in crazy places like Colorodo and South Dakota and New Hampshire... probably would be great experience but, hmmm, no thanks! I decided to take my last semester off from working and just enjoy school... but I'm still staying involved.

I would say the best race to work on in Maryland will be Mark Shriver's race against Morella. He's raised a ton of money and is a good guy. I don't think they've really staffed up yet but shriver's finance director is a good friend.

let's just put it this way in terms of rent... my small, 650 sq foot 1 bedroom is over $1500 a month!! granted, foggy bottom is the high rent district... but chances are high that a campaign salary will be hard to live off of anywhere safe in the district. it's all about living in NoVA and southern MD... or baltimore! /infopop/emoticons/icon_redface.gif

There absolutely were both.
I have my grandfather's polo shirt and photographs of him, dressed VERY nattily and looking handsome and dapper in his puffy white polo breeches, shirt and tweed coat, of course. (In black and white). Also have a program of one year's schedule. They played some rather presitigious teams, Armory teams in Pikesville, Charlottesville, etc. Not bad for a private group of fellows. It even lists everyone's ponies in the program. WilliamDB was a founding member of the Antietam Hunt, which did most of its hunting out Jefferson Avenue towards Smithsburg and that end of the Antietam Creek. However, when I was little and the hunt had been reorganized, my parents normally hunted the lower end of the Antietam near Boonsboro and Sharpsburg and along the Manor Church Road, as well as in Shepherdstown.
We could have our own COTH get together at our version of Mosbys!!! (Would that be the Broad Ax, or perhaps the Old Pike Inn?!?!?!?! LOL!!!) Of course, anyone is invited!

You wouldn't believe how very sophisticated Washington County really was, much more so than Frederick County, since it was mostly farming and Wash Co. was more corporate, if you can call it that. The railroads made all the difference. My family owned the tannery in Williamsport for over a century and produced leather that went for shoes, saddles, bridle, briefcases, etc.
