View Full Version : You're So Vain, Part II

DMK
Mar. 14, 2001, 06:15 PM
The previous thread inspired me, so with apologies to Carly Simon and some shameless borrowing from fellow BB'ers on the original thread, here you go (figured it was only fair to poke some fun at hunter people since I had a good time with the DQs)...

You cantered in the show ring,
Like you were walking on to a stage
Your hat strategically molded to your head
Your TS's were greenish beige
You had one eye on the judges,
As you started to compete
And all the men dreamed that they'd be your trainer, they'd be your trainer...

CHORUS
And you're so vain, you probably think the show is about you, don't you?
You're so vain, I bet you think the show is about you, don't you? don't you?

You showed me several years ago,
When I was still quite pre-green
When you said that we made such a winning pair
And that you would never lean
But you gave away the mounts you ruined
And one of them was me
I had some dreams, were there drugs in my sweet feed, drugs in my sweet feed...

CHORUS

Well I hear you went up north to show
and your horse naturally won
So you flew the judges to Nova Scotia
To see a total eclipse of the sun
Well you're where you should be all the time
And when you're not;
You're with some under-aged groom
or the wife of a jumper, wife of a jumper

CHORUS

DMK
Mar. 15, 2001, 11:10 AM
We can never know about fences to come
But we pray they're not too gory
And I wonder if I'm ready for three-six
Or just chasing after three foot glory.

Anticipation, Anticipation
Is making me chip
It's keeping me waiting...

And I tell you how easy it is to school with you
And how right your screaming feels to me.
But I rehearsed that chip just late last night
When I was thinking about how tight this fence might be.

Anticipation, Anticipation
Is making me long
It's keeping me running...

And tomorrow we might not train together
I'm no trainer, I don't know horses' ways
So I'll try to find eight fences here and now
And stay forward, 'cause these are the horse show days.

(uh oh... that was dangerously easy)

Sung to the tune of Paul Simon's I Am A Rock

I Am A Jumper

A winter's day
In a bright and warm In-di-o
I am alone
Gazing from my window
in my stall I paw
on a freshly mucked out silent bed of straw

I am a horse
I am a jumper

I've jumped walls
And oxers high and mighty
That none may ever rate
I have no need of dressage
Dressage causes pain
It's passage and it's piaffe I disdain

I am a horse
I am a jumper

Don't talk of faults
Well I've heard the word before
It's sleeping in my memory
I won't disturb the slumber
Of bad rounds gone before
If I hadn't rushed I'd never have heard "four"

I am a horse
I am a jumper

I have my boots
And my breast plate to protect me
I am shielded in my Eskadrons
While I'm in the ring
I never hit a thing
I touch no rail and no rail touches me

I am a horse
I am a jumper

And this horse wants her treats
And a jumper needs to jump

Sung to the tune of the Beach Boys' I Get Around

I Jump Around

Round round jump around
I jump around
Yeah
Jump around round round I jump around
I jump around
Jump around round round I jump around
From town to town
Jump around round round I jump around
I'm a real hot head
Jump around round round I jump around
'Cause I'm a Thoroughbred

I'm gettin' bugged trotting up and down the same old ring
I gotta finda new show where I can do my thing

My rider and me are getting real well known
Yeah, the warmbloods know us and they leave us alone

I jump around
Jump around round round I jump around
From town to town
Jump around round round I jump around
I always get my spot
Jump around round round I jump around
I do what I been taught

Jump around round round I jump around
I jump around
Round
Jump around round round oooo
Wah wa ooo
Wah wa ooo
Wah wa ooo

We always take the blue cause I've never been beat
And I've never missed yet when I get my treats

All of the rounds are steady cause it wouldn't be right
To leave a stride out when in the judge's sight

I jump around
Jump around round round I jump around
From town to town
Jump around round round I jump around
I do a perfect eight
Jump around round round I jump around
'Cause I have learned to wait

Jump around round round I jump around
I jump around
Round
Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah
Round round jump around
I jump around
Yeah
Jump around round round I jump around
Jump around round round I jump around
Wah wa ooo....

I am very impressed....and inspired too:

Here's one for all of the Horse Show Mom's (to Carole King's "Tapestry")

( Hope it's not too corny for ya'll! /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif )

My life has been a tapestry of driving to and from
The barn, the shows, the tack shop
It's a never changing view
A wondrous world I've learned of
With bits and boots and gloves
A tapestry where girls reign free
Their horses are their love

Once amid the dark, dusty aisles of the barn
There came another new horse, and this one, it was for sale
She had no ribbons to her name
And she needed work to start
But her face was sweet, her soul was good,
And she won my daughter's heart

I moved with some uncertainty as if I didn't know
Whether we should buy her
Or should we let her go
Finally, the answer came, the horse we had to buy
And my child was so happy

Soon within my tapestry along the horse show trail
I sat and watched my "girls" go round
Trying even if they fail
A missed lead change, a spooky trip,
Make it hard to be top gun
But they are a team, they work real hard
And they have a lot of fun

As I watch them at the barn, it's suddenly all clear
The ribbons never mattered, it's the bond that is so dear
A love between a girl and horse, it's the greatest gift I know
So I'll cheer them on, driving near and far, and I'll never let them go... I'll never let them go....

The creative juices were flowing pretty naturally today...so here is "8 Per Fect Jumps" - sung to the toon of the Rolling Stone's "Satisfaction" - enjoy!

I can't get no 8 per fect jumps
I can't get no 8 per fect jumps
'Cause I look, and I pull, and I push, and I kick
I can't get no, I can't get no

When I'm ridin' on my horse
And that man comes on the loud speak er
And he's tellin' me I'm on the deck
Be at the ingate...ready to go in
The pressure mounts and I get psyched
I can't get no, oh no no no
Chip Chip Chip, that's what I do

I can't get no 8 per fect jumps
I can't get no 8 per fect jumps
'Cause I look, and I pull, and I push, and I kick
I can't get no, I can't get no

When I'm comin out the ring
And the trainer comes up to tell me
How my horse needs some zing
Well I just want to tell him to give me Rox Dene
Instead he goes off flirting
I can't get no, oh no no no
Chip Chip Chip, that's what I do

I can't get no 8 per fect jumps,
I can't get no courses without lumps.
'Cause I look, and I push, and I pull, and I kick
I can't get no, I can't get no

When I'm ridin' round the course
And I'm chippin' this and I'm long to that
And I'm tryin' to make my trainer proud
Who tells me baby better come back later next week
'Cause I see you're on losing streak
I can't get no, oh no no no
Chip Chip Chip, that's what I do

I can't get no, I can't get no
I can't get no 8 per fect jumps
No 8 per fect jumps, no 8 per fect jumps, no 8 per fect jumps

Definitely a clique - no doubt one that no one else wants to belong to, lol! The funny thing is, all these young kids of the BB, someday they'll be horse show moms too...!

I've come to enjoy horse shows a lot more once i got to know a few of the moms from the "other" barns...otherwise, there can be this competitive curtain of silence...! At one show a few years ago, I was watching one of my daughter's "rivals" - at the time, they tended to finish 1,2 in their equi classes. Anyway, the other girl had a really nice round in a jr hunter class, definitely was the winning round and no question better than my daughter's on that particular day...I had been second guessing the scores and sent up a cheer when her daughter won...the mom (who had never spoken to me before) looked at me and came over to ask why i had cheered - i explained and from then on she was friendly...so the more moms get together the better, i think!

I followed Sleepy's suggestions and rewrote the Eagles' "Desperado"

Jumper Rider
Why don't you come to your senses
You've been crashing through fences
For so long now
Oh you're a brave one
But I know that you've been a lawn dart
Those courses that please you can trick you somehow

Don't you gallop to the combination
He'll refuse it if he's able
You know the inside turn is always the best bet
And it seems to me some fine mounts
Have been walkin' through your barn aisle
But you only buy the ones that you can't ride

Jumper Rider
Oh you ain't gettin' no faster
Your spurs and your big crop
Are making him nuts
And time faults? Oh time faults
That's just some trainers talkin'
Your horse he would rather jump this course all alone

Don't your feet get stuck on your stirrup pads
Your horse won't go and you have to add
Should you do the seven or the eight?
You're dropping all the rails and poles
Ain't it funny how the ribbons go away

Jumper Rider
Why don't you come to your senses
Stop jumping those fences
Trot through the gate
You may be off course
But there's a trainer to school you
You better let that poor judge buzz you
Let that poor judge buzz you
You better let that poor judge buzz you
Before it's too late

In the dark desert Sandland
Sandy wind in my hair
One smell of manure dust
Rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance
I couldn't see any light
The sand grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to scratch for the night

There we stood at the ingate
I heard the judge's bell
And I was thinking to myself
This could be heaven or this could be hell
The she picked up her left lead
And she towed me away
There were voices on the loudspeaker
Thought I heard them say

Welcome to the HITS Show Calfornia
Such a muddy place
Sand blows in your face
No extra stalls at the HITS Show California
In the early year
You can find it here

Her bit is definitely twisted
She follows all the new trends
She has a lot of pretty pretty grooms
That she calls friends
How they dance in the barn aisles
Sweet horse show sweat
Some course to remember
Some course to forget

So I called to my trainer
Please bring me my crop
And she said
"You only need that when your horse wants to stop"
And still those announcers are calling from far away
Call you out of the schooling ring
Just to hear them say

Welcome to the HITS Show California
Such a muddy place
Sand blows in your face
Bring a lot of loot
And your rubber boots

Oxers down the long side
Combinations aren't nice
And she said "We're all exhibitors here
Paying an outrageous price"
And in their jumper classic
They galloped in the two
The stab them with their steely spurs
But they just can't win the blue

Last thing I remember
I was jumping through the four
I had to make a rollback turn
To the jump I jumped before
Relax, said my trainer
You're the last once to be seen
You can gallop any time you like
But you can't ever lean

I'll win that class tomorrow
Bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow, I will pin
I'm thinkin' about tomorrow
When I'll nail all eight jumps
And each lead change
Til I win

When I'm stuck a horse
That's tired and lazy
I just stick in my spurs
And curse and pray

The judge will pick me tomorrow
So I gotta ride hard til tomorrow Then I'll say

Tomorrow! Tomorrow!
I'll win first tomorrow

With apologies to Shania Twain - You're
Still the Spot I Run To ;-)

Looks like we made it
Look how far we left my horsie.
We mighta took the long spot
We knew we'd get there somehow (or not)

They said, I'll bet they cannot make it
But just look at us rolling along
Leaving out strides, why's he getting strong?

It's still the spot I run to
The one I wanna lean to
It's the spot that makes my trainer cry

It's still the run that I do
Jumping off one leg - whoo hoo!
I'm glad my helmet is approved.

Ain't nothing better
Than nice sturdy English leather
My trainer says I do not listen
That is why I am still missing

They said, I bet they cannot make it
But just look at us moving along
Can't feel my arms, he's getting strong

<sappy bridge music, overlayed with the
sounds of shrieking, profanity and finally
an exasperated trainer grumbling
"That was terrible!">

So glad we made it.
Damned long to the last oxer my horsie.

Big pat to the all the long-suffering amateur horses...

In honour of my beloved, Alice, I have adapted Jimi Henrix's "Foxy Lady". I know the song only because mein mutter plays it, very loudly, when speeding on dirt roads to HITS.

Foxy Alice
You know you are a cute little butt breaker
Foxy yeah,
And you know you are a sweet little fohlen maker
Foxy

I wanna take you in my paddock, yeah
I won't do you no harm cause I'm a geld-a
You've got to be all mein, all mein
ooh Foxy Alice
Foxy, Foxy

Now-a I see you trot into the show ring
oh Foxy
You make me wanna rear and-a neigh
Foxy, oh baby prick your ear forward now
I've made up my mind my marish fraulein,
I'm tired of wasting all my precious time
You've got to be all mine, all mine

ooh, Foxy Alice
Ooh, Foxy Alice, neigh, neigh
You trot so good, Foxy
oh yeah Foxy
yeah, give us some oats, Foxy
Foxy Alice

Nasty (Mares)

Gimme a lead!

Trottin' in the warmup ring
Thinkin nasty thoughts
A tail that swishes back and forth
Oh you turn me off
That's right, let me tell you

Nasty, nasty mares don't change their lead
Oh, you nasty mares
Nasty, nasty mares don't ever change
Oh, you nasty mares

I don't like no nasty mare
I don't like those nasty bucks, ooh neigh
The only nasty thing I like is the nasty crop
Will this one do?
A-ha, I know

Neigh

Nasty, nasty mares don't change their lead
Oh, you nasty mares
Nasty, nasty mares don't ever change
Oh, you nasty mares

Nasty, nasty mares, give me your nasty buck
Oh, you nasty mares
Nasty, nasty mares, let me see your nasty ears pin
Oh, you nasty mares

I can learn to sit to this
Sit up!

I'm not a hunter (no)
I just want some impulsion (That's right)
So close the legs if you want me to respond
'Cause Chestnut is my middle name
But my last name is Mare
No, my first name ain't Regumate
It's Bute
Miss Bute, when I'm nasty

Nasty, nasty mares don't change their lead
Oh, you nasty mares
Nasty, nasty mares don't ever change
Oh, you nasty mares

Nasty mares don't change their leads
Oh, you nasty mares don't change their leads
Nasty, don't listen to the leg
Ohn you nasty mares

I love this part

HEY!
Who's that pickin to the jump? (Nasty mares!)
Who's that in that nasty bit? (Nasty mares!)
Who's that eatin that nasty jump? (Nasty mares!)
Who's that jammin on the brakes? (Nasty mares!)

Riders, nasty mares
Don't change their lead
Oh, you nasty mares

And now, from the Rocky Mountain Warmblood Collection, tribute to John Denver....Leaving From the Long Spot (to the tune of Leaving on a Jet Plane)

All my tack is on
I'm ready to go
I'm standing here in the grooming stall
I've lunged so many circles I could cry
But the dawn is breaking
It's early morn
The judge is waiting
Blowin' the horn
Already I'm so nervous I could shy

(Chorus)
So pat me and give to me
Tell me you won't pull on me
Don't hold me like you'll never let me go
'Cause I'm leavin' from the long spot
Don't know when I'll touch down again
Oh babe, I hate to chip

There's so many times I've let you down
So many times I've played around
I'll tell you now I promise not to buck
Every change of lead, I change for you
Every course I jump I'll jump for you
When we're done they'll bring your winning blue

Chorus

Now the time has come to leave you
Hold on tight and just don't snag me
Close your eyes, I'll be on my way
Dream about the days to come
When I won't find the spot alone
About the time, I won't have to say

Chorus

I Have Kissed Grassy Lips
Felt the Ice on my Fingertips

Is that a Shire

I Have Seen Purported Angels
I Have Held the Reins Of A Devil

See the Bank About a Loan
But I Still Haven't Found
What I'm Looking For
But I Still Haven't Found

Look at these bits!
Isn't it neat?
Wouldn't you think my collection's complete?
Wouldn't you thing I'm a rider, a girl who has - everything?

Which bit should I choose? I think one to abuse.
How many gags can just one horse use?
Lookin' around here I see - every bit there could be.

I've got snaffles and pelhams a plenty.
I've got eggbutts and french links galore.
You want a hackamore? I got 20.
But who cares?
No big deal.
I want more

I want a bit that can bend my horse
stop and turn on a dime...without using force.
Piaffe and passage...lets me jump a course...

Whens it my turn?
Wouldn't I love?
To find a bit my horse won't go above!
Look and you'll see...
One day I'll be.

(obviously to the tune of Diamonds are a Girl's best friend)

The French mares were bred to ride
They delight in jumping jumps
But mine prefers a squeal and a buck
And gives me quite a lump
A foal by her side may be quite continental
But Depo is a mare's best friend
A lunge may be grand but it won't pay the show bill
My farrier, or with the transitions on the flat
The saddle's growing cold as my mare grows old
And losing her topline in the end
But IM or implant
These hormones don't lose their kick
Depo is a mare's best friend
... Pfizer ... Fort Dodge...
Talk to me Doc, tell me all about it!
There may come a time when a mare needs a breeding
But Depo is a mare's best friend
There may come a time when a hard-boiled trainer
Thinks she's awful nice
But get that shot or else no dice
Gadgets are your friend when Fall's at an end
But beware when Spring starts to descend
It's then that that mare can raise your every hair
Depo is a mare's best friend
I've heard of some cures that are strictly herbal
But Depo is a mare's best friend
I think remedies that depend on just the verbal
Are better bets if horsettes get gifts from nice young vets
Time rolls on and youth is gone
And you can't bend through a circle
But stiff back or sore hocks
You stand still for that shot
Depo... Depo...
- I don't mean regumate -
But Depo is a mare's best friend

(Chorus)
you make me wanna buy that new junior hunter
start a new prospect without you
this is what you do
think about him and the things that come along with
you make me
you make me wanna hop off and leave
start a new prospect without you
this is what you do
think about him and the things that come along with
you make me
you make me

(Verse 1)
Before anything began between us
You were like my bestfriend
The one I used to go and jump whenever i was having a good school(thats right)
You used to make it all okay
jump 3"6 and all that too
And when I come to the barn at night and to open that stall door
all I seemed to smell was you
And how you make me wanna

(Chorus)

(Verse2)

Now what's bad
Is you cost me some big moola
Knowing it should've been you
What's sad is something smells and it's you
What should I do
Should I
Tell you baby bye-bye
Should I
Do exactly what I feel inside
Cause I
I don't wanna smell
Don't need to gag
But you really need to stop rollingggg!!!!

(Chorus)

(Verse 3)

At this point
The situation's out of control
I never meant to hurt you but I
Gotta let you go
And if you may not understand it
Why all of this is going on
I tried
I tried to fight it but the smell is just to strong

You make me wanna wanna
You make me wanna

(chorus)

I need your girth around me
I need to feel your leg

You tell me that you longe me so
My trainer says you're fair
But when I ride you baby,
Baby, your brain's not there.

Never there
It's never there
It's never ever ever ever there!

A golden coop that chips away
A gelding's fickle frame
To think I rode you yesterday
Your spots were just a game.

You tell me that you longe me so
My trainer says you're fair
But when I ride you, baby
Baby, your brain's not there!

Never there
It's never there
It's never ever ever ever there!

WEF was never waiting for us, girl

Between the show program and all the rest
This shows got us in its fevered grip

[CHORUS]
My sweet Butet is melting in the dark
The secret formula is flowing down
Someone left my Butet out in the rain
And I don't think that I can take
'Cause it took so long to make it
And I'll never have that much loot again
Oh No

I recall the new Clothes Horse dress sheet
Foaming like a wave
Across my horse, almost to his knees
Hiding my Butet, like carrots in your hands
And the trainers on their cell phones by the trees

[CHORUS]
sappy musical interlude

There will be another class for me
For I will show it
There will be another Butet for me
Someone will bring it
I will paint the oil while it is warm
And never let you catch me looking at Hermes
And after all the rides in my life
After all the rides in my life
Butet will still be for me

I will put the saddle on my horse, and I will use it
I will win the class in their eyes and then I will lose it
And I will have all the ribbons I desire
And the jumps will flow like rivers in the tent aisles
And after all the saddles in my life
Ill be thinking of that one
And wondering why

I was going through some files and found this parody that I wrote a while back, yet never posted. It's to the music of "I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor.

At first I was afraid, I was off the track
Kept thinking I could never jump without you on my back
But then I lunged so many times thinking how you ought to quit
And I got fit
And I learned how to fight that bit
And now you're back
From some big show
I got tacked up to find you here wearing a big show bow
I should have tried to buck you off
I should have dumped you in the dirt
If I'd have known for just one second that you'd make my poor back hurt

(Chorus)
Oh now go
Walk out the barn
Just turn around now
Cause you can't ride me worth a darn
Weren't you the one who tried to drug me with that ace
Did you think I'd be quiet
Did you think I'd slow down my pace
Oh no not I
I will be high
Even though I know the jump is small I know I'll try to fly
I've got all my life to live
And I've got all my stride to give
I will be high, I will be high

It took all the strength I had not stop at the fence
Just trying hard to show the trainer that you had no sense
and I spend oh so many shows feeling proud of my new self
I used to shy
And now I pull my knees up high
and you see me
with someone new
I'm not that green broke little horse still afraid of you
and so you felt like dropping in and just expect me to be free
But now I'm saving all my talent for someone who's good as me

I am amazed...amazed I tell ya'... at the talent on this BB.

Okay, after one too many margaritas, here's my take on Simon & Garfunkle's "The Boxer"

(Note to self: after reading this pathetic attempt, please realize there's a reason you're in a job that requires MATH skills)

I am just an ammie,
Though my story's seldom told.
I have squandered my life's savings
On a basement full of ribbons
Such are horse shows.
My skill?s a jest,
Still my Patey's fully faded
and my TS nicely pressed,

When I left my home and my family
It was 5:00 a.m and dark
In the company of juniors
In the quiet of the trailer after
Loading slow
Leaving late, searching for my missing matingale
And lost map to the show.
Hoping this new bit will make my fresh horse slow.

Lie la lie...

Asking only for a ribbon
I go canter through my course
Getting seven good jumps
Then a long spot to the oxer in the judge?s line.
I do declare, there were times I leaned so far ahead
I'd make my trainer cry

Lie la lie...

Then I'm cooling out my sweaty horse
And thinking I could go
Learn a sport
Where the entry fees and stall bills aren't bleeding me.
Though I still love it so.

In the clearing stands a hunter,
A pre-greenie newly trained.
Still she carries her fool ammie
Over every jump that comes up till
She acts out in a true pre-greenie way:
"I am farting, I am bucking,
and I will not get the change."

Lie-la-lie

Hey, don't scratch yourself out yet
It's only in your head
You feel left out or
put your Millers instead of your TS's on
Just do your best
Try all those flying lead changes you can
And don't you worry
What the competition tells themselves
When you're off course

It just takes some time
Little pony you're in the middle
Just up the pace
Everything will be just fine
Maybe you'll show at a higher height
Hey-you never know
They're all the same
You know what you're doing
Now that you've shown

So don't jump in
You're in this division now
Yeah, just pace yourself
It doesn't matter
If it's good enough
For that other judge

It just takes some time
Little pony you're in the middle
Just up the pace
Everything will be just fine
Maybe you'll show at a higher height
Hey-you never know
They're all the same
You know what you're doing
Now that you've shown

Hey AAjumper
quote:
LOL DMK!!! My favorite line from your song is "I had some dreams there were drugs in my sweetfeed"....TOO funny!!!!

I liked that line too! Of course, I liked it sooo much I started quietly humming/singing it to myself in my cube while working late one night. Didn't realize that I had co-workers around. They recognized the tune but had NO idea what this "drugs in my sweet feed" thing was about. /infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

I usually end up singing the "new" lyrics to You're So Vain and HITS Show California /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

"and they stab them with their steely spurs, but they just can't win the blues"

Really, I'm telling you, we need someone to record these songs and slip the tape to an accomodating announcer... can you imagine how hard people would laugh if they heard some of these songs over the PA system at the horse show?

I cannot listen to either of those songs either without singing the "revised" lyrics either!!!

And I have to admit, when considering what music to use for the Music Derby class at Huntington Beach, I actually thought "hmmm...wouldn't that be funny to record the parody lyrics to one of those songs and ride to that?"

Dogchushu, that is hysterical!!!!

AAJumper and DMK, it's all your fault. Today every time I was in the car with the radio on, I'd start thinking about whether or not the song would be a good one to write a parody of. IT WAS DRIVING ME CRAZY, AND YOU'RE BOTH TO BLAME!!!!!!!

This is why I need to go over to the HJ bb sometimes....OMG I have nearly peed my pants several times reading over these 7 pages.

AAJumper? You are my hero. HITS was just too funny....I must admit that my age is hampering the enjoyment of some of the selections here, as I have no idea who some of the artists are, much less the tune.

Give me the Stones, The Eagles, and (dare I admit it?) Gloria Gaynor and I can at least sing your songs!! /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

These are priceless...hats off to you all. I will think about this and see what I can come up with...perhaps sung to the tune of a Beatles song. I can do those. /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I am in the process of printing songs up and leaving them on the BB at the stable for everyone to enjoy.
Thought I would do acouple a week.

I wish we had one place for all these FABULOUS songs, as there are others that are NOT on this particular thread.
