In lieu of the huffiness in response to 'most annoying username', I was thinking we could all post with what our usernames mean, no matter how petty or how deep the analysis might be /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Should be fun, especially some of the alter egos!
I'll go first- it doesn't REALLY mean anything, since I don't have a pony, but when I was little and I would go galloping around the house jumping footstools my dad would call me 'Emma Pony'.

Wellll...
My name is Kate and when I was a little kid my older brothers and sister called me Katy O'Grady Potatey Head. Inexplicably. Our surname is NOT O'Grady. Sometimes this name was alternated with Katy O'Grady The Cleaning Lady.
I made the mistake of telling a college friend of mine about this name, and now everyone calls me Potato Head. Anyway, KatyO is a take-off on all that.

KatyO, I used to call my sister "Katy the Reading Lady" because she was always reading. Soon that transformed into "Katy, Katy, reading lady, sitting on the potty". Oh, the originality...
As for my username, I'm a Spaz and I like numbers, so I just added 00. I'm sure if you ask anyone, they will agree that I am surely a Spaz.

Sparky22
Dec. 9, 2001, 05:14 PM
Well, Sparky was one of my favorite school horses of all times. He would make you work to get him going in your lessons, but the second you got on him bareback or took him to a horse show he acted like a kid. He was in his late 30s when he died, and I was soooo sad. It was a huge loss for our barn. ::sniff sniff:: And the Christmas parties have not been the same since. No more Sparky drinking beer and Schnapps and racing around like a "young buck."
22 is my former basketball number. Played in high school, and was my main comfort when everyone was down in FL all winter long. I would still go to the barn, but often there were no horses to be ridden, so bball is like my horse...lol. It was my substitution.

Rubs Not Pats
Dec. 9, 2001, 05:17 PM
I have a weanling filly who really loves to be rubbed. When she was real small got very upset when you would pat her. So for her barn name she is "Rubs Not Pats" or just Rubs for short. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

LOL, when I was younger, I used to torture my little sister. Once I took a picture of her in the bathtub, once I got her to pose naked /infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif and once sitting on the "potty:. Before I realized that the people who develop the pictures can see them. /infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif
I also convinced her that when she was a baby she fell off the Empire State Building, and that for her first birthday we took her to Antarctica and rented an igloo. Then there was the "brain game" I played with her... when she was good, I'd call her "football brain" or "bathtub brain" or when she was REALLY good, "washing machine brain" (ie, "your brain is so big, it is the size of a washing machine). But when she annoyed me, I'd call her "peanut brain" or "lint ball brain". Relatives were concerned that she took "boat brain" as the highest compliment and would cry if she got called "ant brain".
Oh yeah, and then there was the time I somehow convinced her to take a walk down the road with my friend and I wearing nothing but her bathrobe... and then yanking off the bathrobe when we got to the community clubhouse... whereupon she ran home shrieking clad only in her underpants...
And we also used to have an ongoing joke calling each other "pig" and "cow" (humorous I suppose because we're both skinny). That started like 8 years ago and to this day my nickname is Piggy (hence my AOL screen name).
I could go on. /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Hah. Actually, I'm pretty mood (me? Nooooo!).
It came from my first three horses: Andy's Delight, Mr Ebony's Delight, and Just Delighted. The first two were coincidences - Andy came with the name, and, when we looked at Boogie's papers, he was a Delighted too. Just Delighted got renamed to that, because I didn't like the name "Billy" for a big, buff QH. My fat mare's first baby will have a Delighted in there somewhere - maybe Delighted's Lift Me Up, or something.. I'll have to wait and see.
Wow, too much info, huh?

Dec. 9, 2001, 07:55 PM
Despite what Sea Urchin is apparently telling people /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif my sn is Kryswyn NOT because Chris Wynne the rider/trainer from Virginia and I are having a hot/heavy/tawdry affair but because long ago and far away in Hawaii, 12 yo Kristina Perry thought it would be fun if she and I got a farm in Virginia and called it KrisWen (my name is Wendy). I went along with the idea but suggested we turn the vowels into 'y's to make it look more Celtic and less like 2 names.
Well, I bought the farm ( /infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif without Kris) but I still liked the name. So in tribute to dreams that come true, I named it Kryswyn Farm and now my registered JRTCA kennel prefix is also Kryswyn!

Well I decided that when we were rich and had a farm that we would name it Goosewood (I just liked that better than Ivywood and we think Geese are cool.) My house is over 100 years old and it looks out over the ocean. The people that built the house in 1899 named it WaterWatch and that's what it's been called ever since.
It's a great old house and we love it!!! /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I NEED A NEW USERNAME!!! Suggestions, anyone? Please? Help!

monstrpony
Dec. 10, 2001, 11:27 AM
Monster is my horse's barn name, as he's a rather large draft cross (but very sweet). I jokingly refer to him as my "large pony", hence the pony part. I started leaving the "e" out when I used the name as a password--they always tell you that if you use a pet's name for a password, you should spell it differently. It also has the advantage that the first three letters are typed with the right hand and the last three with the left, so my hands get equal exercise when I'm typing in passwords (for what THAT's worth....)

Glimmerglass
Dec. 10, 2001, 12:06 PM
Glimmerglass was the name given by James Fenimore Cooper to the lake that my hometown resides beside. It also is the source of the Susquehanna River for which my horse, Hannah, is so named.
Cooper, the early 19th Century American novelist, had two of his great books (from the Leatherstocking Tales) taking place on the shores of the lake. All five of the Tales immortalized Natty Bumppo [another horse I had], alias the Deerslayer, alias Hawkeye, alias the Pathfinder, alias Leatherstocking.
This concludes today's American Literature and History lesson.

I made the mistake of telling a college friend of mine about this name, and now everyone calls me Potato Head. Anyway, KatyO is a take-off on all that.

My ex goes through life with a very similiar name. His given name should have been PeterPan (though, it is in reality more common), his surname begins with an O hence from a tender age he was known as (effectively) PeterPannyO. In high school it was shortened to PeterPanO, and he now goes by PeterPano. One word, like Madonna. It is a topic of endless debate what moniker appears on his drivers license, but alas one isn't permitted a drivers license when one racks up $12,000 of parking fines, which one refuses to pay. To think I used to ponder why it was that Dad said he didn't want to meet or know anything about a boyfriend until I was ready to marry. /infopop/emoticons/icon_redface.gif

LuckyMe
Dec. 10, 2001, 05:46 PM
Someone *gave* me my mare when she was a little tiny weanling. A breeder round here had to get rid of stock fast due to family illness. The filly was completely unhandled and had no papers. Everyone thought I was nuts taking on a "free" horse as horses are NEVER free...they all were certain there had to be something horribly wrong with her. but hey I was horseless, she was a doll and athletic as can be, and I had a place to stick her for a few years to let her grow up.
She's three now and has turned out beautifully. Her barn name is Folly...supposed to be ironic as she's turned out to be anything BUT a Folly.... but people who don't know her story always look at me funny when I tell them her name. Like hmmm gorgeous horse but where's the hitch that would justify a name like Folly???
So anyway my screen name is LuckyMe... someday when we make our showring debut she'll be going under Lucky Me or Little Bit Lucky. Cause hey I really *did* luck out on the free horse.....
creseida
Dec. 10, 2001, 06:35 PM
Creseida is my mare. The name comes from Chaucer and the Helen of Troy tales.
Creseida was the harlot of Troy. The name suits her as she can come into season on command whenever she sees a stallion or gelding. It can be a bit embarrasing at times....

CdnRider
Dec. 10, 2001, 08:26 PM
My first internet screen name was always Sam, because he was the first horse I absolutely fell in love with. But as Sam was a fairly popular name it got confusing so I became CanSam; Can standing for Canada. When I finally came here last year, I hadn't had Sam for a long time (even though I never owned him), I had, however, just started riding Nikko who was a Canadian Stb X. So I decided on CdnRider because of Nikko's breeding and the fact that I am Canadian. And the Rider part is self eplanatory.
Too much information, I know.

"Cam" is the first three letters of my first name and "Stock" is the first four letters of my last. It stems from working at a University where they wanted everyone to have their first initial and up to the first seven letters of their last name for an email address. Somehow, "Cstockha" was just blegh to me, so I entered "Camstock", which was interpreted as quite the rebellious act. Now the name has become shorthand for "bucking trends" here, as in, "Maybe we should camstock it, no matter what the Dean says." /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

second chance was a tb at our barn's registered name... he went training level eventing.... the best horse, bay with a white star. Sweat personality, yet a little weird, you could feed him bute tablets if you added a couple of sugar cubes in your hand and crunch, all gone...
and now it means that people should have a second chance. That's how I got my name. I still call him baby huey to this day and even have a saddle pad with that on it and a little duck. It's so cute!!! /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Cactuskate
Dec. 23, 2001, 06:51 PM
Having moved from the Pacific NW to Tucson, AZ in '85, my best friend from the Oregon coast gave me the moniker, Cactuskate. Really Kathy but close enough. She then became Joan of the Coast. It has just stuck.

Well Sunkissed Angel is the name of my daughters first love. She had horses prior but Angel was a summer long rescue from a Canadian fatten farm prior to the kill plant. It took my child, all of 8 all summer long to acquire her. She is the reason for our rescue and retirement farm as well as the name behind it.

karassa
Jun. 21, 2006, 09:01 AM
sooo random!
Back in 11th grade (1995-1996), I was *HUGE* into Star Wars. There were a whole bunch of star wars books being published by various authors and I had them all. I knew *everything* about star wars. A friend of mine in one of my classes was almost as obsessed as I was. We were joking around in class one day, and he said that he was going to be a Sith Lord by the name of Baruka Fen. I decided I would be his apprentice, and came up with the name Karassa Sou. I've been using some variation of the name ever since. I actually respond to Karassa as quickly as I do to my real name, Audrey.

Seafilly
Jun. 21, 2006, 10:29 AM
Hmm...well...mine should probably be beachcombing broodmare (no longer in production) at this point in time. I was raised in the Florida Keys, love the ocean still, love my horse and those that came before (my first horse was in the Keys, as a teen, long ago and far away). I make handmade soap and my company name is Seahorse Soap, so, Seafilly it is. Works for me!
Lady Delancy
Jun. 21, 2006, 10:30 AM
Well, my name comes from 2 different things...
Lady comes from my AOL name, plus I'm a girl!
Delancy is the name of my old horse, who my sister owns now. She is the mother of Pebbles, my first foal, and she took me through my D3 in pony Club, and I love her very dearly.

Jun. 21, 2006, 10:35 AM
I used to be a professional Roller Derby skater. Way back in the 70's. I was pretty small compared to most of the women but I was not a pushover so my coach called me Mighty Mite. I went on a road trip that took me to a lot of places in this country. Pretty interesting lifestyle.

Jun. 21, 2006, 10:36 AM
My horse's registered name is DDA Shaq, I use it for everything where I need an ID. That way, I am guaranteed to have one that I will remember. I used to use the name of my first horsey love, but apparently it was not as uncommon a name as I would have thought so I was having to add numbers to the end which I always forgot.

So my friends and I weren't the only ones who made up our own Star Wars names and characters? I was Lup Phelan, and my two best friends were Dui Delaney and Rail Mortare. We had our own ships, and lightsaber colors, and everything ;) and we used to write notes to each other in the Aurabesh so no one else could read them.
Anyway, my username comes from the Emilio Estevez character Alex Furlong in an 80's movie, Freejack. I adopted the name Furlong as my nickname for playing laser tag (since it was also futuristic ) and tagged my favorite number onto it (47) when I made my first email address in the early 90's. And furlong47 has been my online identity ever since... for every internet site and service. So if you see it on another website or forum, it is me. Also, it is always lowercase... it just kind of developed that way, then I decided it had became part of the name. Kind of like e e cummings or kd lang, just less famous
moonriverfarm
Jun. 21, 2006, 11:02 AM
Mine's the name of my farm, called MoonRiver after the old song from Breakfast at Tiffany's. When I was a little girl, and it came on the radio, no matter where I was I'd go sit in my daddy's lap. It was "our song". He was my biggest supporter when I was a young rider, logging jilliions of miles and hours pulling the trailer from show to show. He'd bring along one of those fold-out lounge chairs for the HOURS between classes......was chief mucker, waterer, cheerleader.
He died in 1999, before he could see me jump back into horse ownership, and never got to see my farm. So, for him, we named it MoonRiver.

My ex-husband's license plates were ATKNSN which is an abbreviated version of our last name, so when I married him, I got CATKNSN and started using it for everything. The handle far outlasted the husband. :D

Maybe I should have been Wenglish, ha!
Dad Said Not To
Jun. 21, 2006, 11:48 AM
My dad was dead set against me getting a horse because of the costs of ownership. I owned a horse without his knowledge for almost three years, and plan on changing that horse's registered name from Franks Apache Sun (ick!) to Dad Said Not To.
Dad recently found out that I own not one, but two horses, and was not nearly as upset as I thought he'd be. He did say that had he found out while I was still living with my parents, there would have been words...

The Mellie comes from my first name, Melanie. My parents and brothers call me Mellie. The Bay is a reference to my old horse Bailey, who we called Bay for short. Aefvue Farms is where I go for my psychiatric treatments, and Chesapeake Bay is a nod to where I live.

86
Jun. 21, 2006, 03:24 PM
I go to mainly local association shows, and for the past three (?) years, my number has been 86, except at a couple of shows not run by the usual secretary. It was KeeptheChange86, cause Keep the Change was my horse's name, but then he couldn't be jumped much/ridden hard anymore, so he left, and I took that off. I considered changing it to Bewitched86 when I got Bewitched in February, but oh well...I suppose I would have changed it back to plain old 86 after we had to put her down...just kind of sad to see her name there.
mp
Jun. 21, 2006, 03:46 PM
My username means when I tried to register the one I use on other boards, it was already taken. I didn't want to be a "2" and using one of my horse's names, breed blah blah, whatever, didn't appeal. It happened to be my sister's birthday, so I took her initials. mp = Mary Pat.

Hasty Reply was the name of the first horse that was all mine. She was the dam, grandam, and grt granddam of all my horses. I still have 2 of her grt grandsons. Sadly there will be no more Hasty horses.
I some times speak before thinking so it fits that way as well.

Rt66Kix
Jun. 21, 2006, 10:00 PM
I grew up in St. Louis, and when I was 8 we took a vacation down Route 66 to The Grand Canyon. It was the first time I realized that you didn't have to be on TV to own a horse; REAL people actually owned them! Of course I was in love with Little Joe on Bonanza..
I got online back in '95 when the Internet was still kinda "new." I needed a name, and the 50th anniversary of Route 66 was coming up. This fascinated me, and I also love Asleep At The Wheel's version of "Get Your Kicks on Route 66."
So I became "Rt66Kix" as in "Route 66 Kicks"!
SLW

SLW are the initials for "Skips Last Warrior", the dumbest gelding I ever owned, shudda been named "Perpetual Panic Attack". Had him back when I joined the board ages ago. I really do need to change it.....

charlieo is the name of my 35yr QH gelding (reg as Goucher's Charge). He and I are both over the hill
Susan P
Jun. 22, 2006, 12:04 AM
This is so dumb. I was just going to use my name Susan but it was already taken and I had no imagination at the time so I added my last name initial. Wow, I'm so creative.
After reading everyone else's names I think I should have chosen another name just for spice. Ah, no, not SPICE, not a SPICE GIRL, ha ha.
Maybe a good name for me would have been SpinandFallover? That sounds like me. Or, WhyDoIHaveHorses yeah that's appropriate. Maybe it could have been Bought the Farm because I keep wondering why I did. I'm here as Susan P good or bad, and when I make enough enemies and you see me gone and one of these names appear you'll know who it really is. ;) In the meantime, guess I'll just take my lumps along with my friends who make it all worthwhile, like Charlieo.
Jaideux
Jun. 22, 2006, 12:20 AM
I recently got my second horse, and didn't sell the first. I'm quite proficient in French (I even dream in it).
Jaideux, broken down, is actually "j'ai deux", which translates into "I have two". I didn't want to slight either of my boys in picking a name. It's bad enough my screen name and blog are named after my first horse, but I couldn't just NOT include him in this (I'm uber-sensitive to not abandoning him in any way, shape, or form, because he is a horse I would rather keep forever and never ride, than have the "best" horse in the world but be without him.)
Not so clever in English, but awesome in French, I think.
MissFit
Jun. 22, 2006, 12:30 AM
I like the french one! My screen name is my "first" horse. I bought her for a dollar because she was...crazy, and I was worried what would happen to her as a lesson horse (her job at the time). She was a never made it to the track racehorse, and when she arrived at the lesson barn, she was a filly. They ended up calling her "the filly" for almost 8 years! I decided that couldn't be her show name--but none of the other names we called her were very nice! (see above reference to her being crazy). So we decided that she was a "misfit"--we came up with the spelling because "fit" in the UK means attractive and she was GORGEOUS. So gorgeous AND crazy "Mis(s)fit"! :)
(I was tempted to name her "Nuts and Bolts" but didn't want her to get the idea that she should continue with that sort of behaviour.)
Still Workingonit
Jun. 22, 2006, 05:09 AM
Because after all these years and all the horses that I have owned or sat on or taught - I am "still working on it" and I will be the day I stop riding or hanging around with horses - which will be the day that I die.
Also, my sister would always say to people when asked if she could ride yet "still working on it" and by using that name, I honour her memory as she was fatally injured one night in a traffic accident going to feed the horse that I inherited off her
Marshmallow
