My 29 year old boarder colicked this morning. Distention, reflux, NO GUT sounds. Due to his age and other chronic health issues, the decision was made. We led him out to a nice grassy spot and the vet sent him over the bridge. He had no fight left and so he went quietly. Hug your horses, ponies and any other furry friends tight. You just never know when it might be the last time. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y295/My2cents/3770b614.jpg

Heartfelt sympathiy to everyone. Maybe my horses that have passed will welcome him and show him to greener pastures....He's no longer in pain, which is a very selfless decision you and the owner made. Bless you.

RIP Peanut Butter! Lost a sweet old guy myself at 31 to colic, same thing. Glad he was with people who loved him, and that he had a gentle crossing. I'm so sorry!

yes, as i go over that day in my mind, i am SOOOO thankful that it happened the way it did. at home, very peaceful, quick. however, i am now fielding calls from the owner with the 'what if's' conversation. i don't know how many times i can keep pointing out the obvious, but at least it makes it very clear to me that there was no other option.
thanks for all the kind words. i copied this post for the owner and she thanks you all.
