View Full Version : Strangest Show Names

Feb. 9, 2000, 05:50 PM
I've been having so fun reading the mispronounced show names thread that I thought I'd start a stranges show names thread. I'm sure you guys can come up with some fun ones to make everyone laugh.

I'll start ... Well, my old pony (who is a stocky large bay pinto gelding) once was shown under the name "Audacious Playboy" - somehow that just doesn't seem to fit. My trainer once had a horse that came with a name something like "In The Buff." She changed it before she showed it, so she wouldn't be riding in the buff /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif .

Every year we do one show near the end that is PURELY fun. So we're not chasing points, etc etc. And my mom always enters us under different names ( Our horses) She has had Her Bicycle ( Heather Payson riding her bicycle) Cloud 9 ( rebecca Payson on Cloud 9) Toad witch ( my first pony /infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif She dumped me 10 times daily- so Rebecca Payson on the toad witch) The bashkir Curly got I.B.Curly, hmmm. there have been more /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Feb. 9, 2000, 06:33 PM
I evented my tb gelding under his registered name: Laugh Attack!! It was fitting, you sort of have to know him /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Feb. 9, 2000, 06:38 PM
My thourobred cracked her pelvis before she ever got the chance to show, but if she had, I had always planned to show her under her registered name(I'm a huge believer in keeping the name they are originally given). Only trouble is, that name is "Guilt Trip". Never could figure out how anyone could give such a perfectly wonderful horse such a perfectly awful name.

Feb. 9, 2000, 07:10 PM
There's a small pony around here named
"Pewie Play Horse." Isn't that just the cutest?????

Black Market Radio
Feb. 9, 2000, 07:15 PM
I have had two TB's with awful paperd names! I would have never shown my precious Spot (show name Lestat) under his papered name, "Bobbies Bubble". He got the name Spot from the odd white spot in the indentation above his right eye. He is Dark Bay and has no other markings. The other awful papered name was "Boo's Lady" which would sound more like "Booze Lady" when announced in the show ring. Don't want my horse to sound like a drunkard thank you!

Feb. 9, 2000, 07:35 PM
The large pony I rode as a junior was sometimes shown as "I Need a Name". I hated it! But the mare was kind of well known on the local circuit, so my trainer wouldn't let me change it.

I also rode an appendix QH gelding registered as "Da** I'm Good." I showed him under his barn name, Digger!

Feb. 9, 2000, 08:10 PM
great thread!

years ago in Colorado, there was a young pony rider on our circut. Everybody called her "Kit", so her Dad named the pony "Kaboodle," of course.

very cute. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Feb. 9, 2000, 08:13 PM
I used to lease and show in dressage a Hanoverian mare by Grandduelle named "Gorgeous." More than one dressage judge commented to me on my way out of the ring, "it's a good thing she lives up to her name." [She just earned her Elite Mare status with the AHS. Yea, Gorgie!]

On the cute front, a wonderful Hanoverian mare by Grandduelle was born premature. She was immediately named "Gerne Grosse," which means in German, "I want to be big." GG's just starting her career as a hunter, so we'll have to see how the announcers do with that one. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Feb. 9, 2000, 08:16 PM
lol, at one of the shows I went to last year these 2 sisters were riding "Giddy Up Horsey" and "Thank You Daddy". It was so hilarious. /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Feb. 9, 2000, 08:42 PM
One of the strangest show names I ever heard was "Hi-Tech Red Neck". Tell you the truth, I started to really like that name after I heard it a few times...

Feb. 9, 2000, 09:44 PM
My gorgeous TB was, for some reason, christened Hamlet's Bruffy...if anyone has a clue, I'd love to hear it!

Feb. 9, 2000, 09:48 PM
Hi-Tech Red Neck is a song. (And the horse was a nice hunter, too!)

"All Daddy's Money" and "My Rolex" are favorites of mine, too!

Feb. 10, 2000, 08:39 AM
One lady I knew took the money from her husband's savings account to buy a very expensive horse. Show name: MH Ferrari (meaning my husband's Ferrari, which is what he was saving for). Another friend from years back used to go off course all the time in the jumpers, so he named his horse "Is Excused".

Slight variation -- naming a boat is like naming a horse. Once saw a very fancy, large cruising sailboat called "Dada's Boap", which was towing a small dinghy, called "Mama's Mink". Guess the kids did the naming honors.

Feb. 10, 2000, 12:52 PM
Oohh, I just love this.
We once had a TB mare with the papered name "Blockhead" - she was a nice mare. We had a very ugly, big, clunky dressage horse (bright red Chestnut) that we showed under "Handsome Devil", devil always got a chuckle as he left the ring. My friend has a clutzy TB named "Call the Doctor", another friend has a mare names Sur le Mer (pronounced Surly Mare), and she is!

Feb. 10, 2000, 12:53 PM
I think my all-time favorite name is "Al Capony" (Al Capone.) I saw his name in the results of Pony Finals last year (?) not sure if he's still showing... "Pony Dot Com" (was showing on the west coast) is pretty cute too.

Feb. 10, 2000, 01:17 PM
The WORST show name I have ever heard was of a prelim jumper named "RLS". When asked by friends, the rider told people it stood for rotten little s***. However, when the horse (who had habits of bucking off his rider) was put up for sale, he was sold a "RLS" standing for Rising Little Star!!!

Feb. 10, 2000, 01:22 PM
Seems that I remember reading a story that the large breeding farms in Kentucky would have afternoon "gatherings" where all of the owner's friends would sit around the house sipping Kentucky style drinks. The weanlings that needed to be named would be paraded by one by one; the guests would then make up "appropiate" names. Guess after four hours of sipping those drinks you can understand why some of our TBs are named what they are!

Feb. 10, 2000, 02:27 PM
Great thread. My gelding's registered name is Little Grundoon. Anyone have any idea what a Grundoon is? I have searched the web. I use it as my show name since it is so different and he is by no means little.

Feb. 10, 2000, 03:07 PM
A pony at our barn is named Dad's Harley, always thought that was cute. But i always liked the names like "backward", or "upsidedown and backward." So when pronounced right you'd get ______ riding upsidewon and backward

Feb. 10, 2000, 03:43 PM
My pony's show name is "Always The Fashion" and her nickname is Sassy - not picked out by me - she's probably one of the 2 ponies in our barn who could pull that one off.
The best is the horse from the 60s, called "Crap Shooter." This was back when horse shows were pretty much social events, hehe

Grundoon was the name of the baby groundhog in the comic strip Pogo - there, I'm showing my age. {For you youngsters, Pogo was set in the swamp, populated by a variety of animals but was actually social and/or political commentary. Lot's of bite and sarcasm.}

Feb. 10, 2000, 06:56 PM
I remember another! My friend had a horse called 'Dad's Full of Bull'. I loved the High Tech Red Neck one!!

Feb. 10, 2000, 07:28 PM
There was a horse that was being shown in northern cal a couple of years back that had a really cute name -"Thank You Netscape"

Feb. 10, 2000, 08:07 PM
my horses name is TAXI!! that was her name when we got her! I think it is a kind of cute name for her becuz she kind of "took me every where" so to say! My friends and i would make up weird names for her like taxicab and pooky!! so that was how she was known around the barn as TAXI, POOKY and TAXICAB

Feb. 10, 2000, 08:30 PM
My friend has a horse named Phat Chance. Anyone under age 20 knows that Phat stands for "Pretty Hot and Tempting". LOL /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif My mare seems to think Chance lives up to that name, too!

Feb. 10, 2000, 09:34 PM
Marimee...Sur le mer...means "On the Ocean", I don't know if it was meant this way or the way you said, "surly mare"...but since everything is spelled right, I would assume that Sur Le Mer means On the Ocean.

Feb. 10, 2000, 09:40 PM
The worst name of a horse I've ridden was Pasta (why the heck would anyone name their horse that?) I know a jumper named Angel Camp, never understood that until I found that it was a town in California. Some cool names have been Black Coffee No Sugar (beautiful black horse, but not a sweet horse!). Oh, another bad one was No Name, I felt sorry for that horse, I think it may have been sold so for sure it's got a new name by now!

Feb. 10, 2000, 10:20 PM
my appendix qh geldings registered name is Docs red neck, which is great considering he freaks out at the sight of a cow.

Feb. 11, 2000, 01:49 AM
There is a horse around here shown as "Affirmative Action" - ridden by a black police officer!

Feb. 11, 2000, 08:20 AM
We had a QH mare here that was named Colonal Shotgun....the girl who owned her HATED the name and the AQHA doesn't allow name changes. She ended up withdrawing from the AQHA and renamed her anyway.

Feb. 11, 2000, 09:17 AM
I had a friend with a leopard Appaloosa named Spots A-Plenty. Well, at least he had spots when he was young. By the time he was 10, they had all shed out! So here she was, on a pure white horse named Spots A-Plenty....

Feb. 11, 2000, 09:58 AM
There was a horse here several years ago that a friend of mine showed called Another Chestnut Horse. Still like that name.

Feb. 11, 2000, 12:55 PM
SGray - Thank you for solving a great mystery! I can't believe my big grey gelding was named after a groundhog! I will have to come up with some related nicknames for him. Thanks again.

Feb. 11, 2000, 01:02 PM
Long ago a friend of mine travelled to AZ or NM (I can't recall now) to pick up a QH colt. On the return trip, they spent their first night in a town named Siccorro (sp?). It was no surprise to anyone that she named the horse "Night in Soccorro." I've always kinda liked that - odd that I still recall the horse's name, but I can't remember hers!

Feb. 11, 2000, 03:34 PM
N2jumper, Alcapony show last year in my zone so it's probly the same pony your talking about. I think this show name is just dumb plain brown wrapper. Or this gentleman last year named his horse Cricket goes hawien. I heard some bad ones. But My paints registered name takes the cake. I'm sweet and sparky. I would just love to shoot the people that gave her that one. http://www.chronofhorse.com/ubb/mad.gif

Feb. 11, 2000, 03:49 PM
I forgot one and I think this one is sooo cute. We have a small pony at our barn and his show name is Size doesn't matter.

Just My Style
Feb. 11, 2000, 04:01 PM
When I was little I used to ride the sweetest schooling pony named "Emanon" or "No name" backwards. Ugh!

Feb. 11, 2000, 04:33 PM
Great thread! I knew a lady who showed her horse on the local circuit as "Oh She It" because it was not uncommon to hear her exclaim it over fences!

Feb. 11, 2000, 04:33 PM
Papered TB names.. . How about "Woody's Amni"? That was the mare I used to have, I wish like heck I hadn't sold her she was so talented (but completely psycho). She'd be about 20 now. I never figured out what her name meant.

My bf said there was a horse on the barrel circuit called "Scootin' Cooter" ridden by a girl.... among the redneck crowd, "Cooter" is a rude word for a part of the female anatomy, and this poor girl apparently did well enough to get win some year end awards and get heckled on her way up to get her trophy....

Feb. 11, 2000, 04:56 PM
I thought of another!
My friend has a small pony that is just the cutest thing! It a chestnut with a bald face and a wall eye. It also has 3 socks. It's barn name is Socks and they show her under "Lost My Sock"!!!!!!!!!! That would have to be my fav name!

Feb. 11, 2000, 05:01 PM
Under the heading of registered TB names, my own beast came with the lovely title "Pleasure Fiesta." Can't imagine all the barn names that came to mind.

J. Turner
Feb. 11, 2000, 05:06 PM
How about "Buck Naked"? Entering the ring, so and so riding Buck Naked.

I think there was horse named something like that. Buck Naked though was George Costanza's name for himself if he ever became a porn star, for all you Seinfeld lovers.

Feb. 11, 2000, 05:08 PM
I once rode a horse named buffy... i wasn't aware until they announced the name that it was Rebecca Payson riding in The Buff...

Feb. 11, 2000, 06:17 PM
Hey, DevilDog - I know your horse. He used to be boarded at my old stables. Small world. What a good boy he was - But ugh! Bobbie's Bubble- ech! Must admit I am not fond of Lestat but it is a huge improvement.

Just for interest - my former instructor (from England) told me it was "dire" bad luck to change a horse's name. Someone else told me it was okay to change the show name but not their call name. But if the call name was demeaning or derogatory it could be changed for the better.

To change the subject slightly: How many of you are sick of the names Bree, Brittany (in all their different spellings) or Mariah? I work at a hospital and I swear - if I hear them once more, I will SCREAM!

Feb. 11, 2000, 06:20 PM
J.turner LOL yep thats right buck naked for goerge. I loved that show. Always watch the reruns on fox. Wish they were still on. I love the one where they all bet who can go without MsterB the longest. That was the best show.

Feb. 11, 2000, 06:32 PM
We were talking about show names the other day and someone siad they knew a jumper whose show name was "Knock Down." I thought, my God, I'd hate to ride a horse into the ring and hear the announcer say "Knock Down" every time I went in. Like a self fulfilling prophecy if you ask me. Ha ha. But then again in you went clear it would be cool to hear "zero faults for 'Knockdown'!"

Feb. 11, 2000, 06:41 PM
How about a gray school horse named Elmer.

Just for fun I always wanted to show him under Glue Factory. He was fast, but a ton of fun.

Another school horse, Dog Food. At least that was what we called him, everyone else called him Bob. He was "saved," hence the name. However he had a bad habit of bucking riders off, therefore our name for him. He was great with the little kids, but the moment someone, whom he thought should know better, got on, he took off. Gotta love those ponies.

Feb. 11, 2000, 08:51 PM
My tbred who is in the process of finding a suitable pasture home... is named Riley which actually fits him well, but his registered name is charlie.. yuck as he is a beautiful dark bay... and he was supposedly shown under the name Reckless too. Not good thing as he has a crazy streak.
My swedish wb is registered simply as Tiara. She can be quite pretty under saddle and has a lovely head ( no neck though!). Its sort of a silly name when you know her though as there is nothing princessy or sweet about her. She is an absolute brutt. I call her T and that is short for her new barn name of T REX!!! But the name does make sense when you consider her Sire is named Three Crowns and her dam is named Be Bright Lea...
There are some interesting names at our barn. One paint is named Wimpy's No Paradise. Ebony's ( a blackand white paint) is shown under the name The Galloping Gourmet he is a porker. And while not show names we have an odd assortment of barn names. I didn't realize it until my Mom pointed it out but we sorta sound like a saturay morning kid's lineup.. we have Grover ( China Grove), Linus, Snoopy ( Hero's Welcome) Mickey ( Michelangelo).
We have one horse named Santo... who should realy be named Diablo!!! and Rambo is a huge 16.3 hand QH who is a major wimp!!!!
Adnn while not a horse my trainers jack russell Daisy Mae had puppies... all the puppies were named after some type of flower, there was illisum (lissa), dianthus(diamond), Foxglove (foxy) and Jonquill( jon).

Feb. 12, 2000, 01:33 PM
We bought a pony from some people in west Texas. It was a fabulous mover and would jump anything, but we had to change his name. My husband objected to our daughter riding on "Child Support" (especially since we've never divorced)!

Feb. 12, 2000, 10:33 PM
There's a school horse at our barn named Big Thing. When he first came I tried to ask my friend if she would put the bay horse away before she left. Which bay horse? Ya know, the big ugly stupid smelly thing? Oh, that one! It stuck. But now we call him Big T like a drug dealer cuz he's a little lacking in the brain cell department.

Ms. Ridiculous (horse I showed)
He's Her Man (hated that one! I showed that horse once too)
Hot Damn
Dammit Mare
Hot Wheels
Fashion Nugget (one of my favorite horses at the barn)
Daddy's Lexus
My College Fund
Her Dad's Harley
All Shook Up (it was a little black pony named Pepper)
Another Chestnut
Every Paycheck

I can't wait to name a horse "We Need A Medic" "The Announcer" "A Drunken Pony" or "Porn Star" (don't even ask, its an inside joke! /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif )

Feb. 12, 2000, 11:20 PM
Off the top of my head, we have:

Helen Wheels
Helena Handbasket
Prissed Off
Well Dun (guess what color)
Guinness Stout (an 18.1 draft horse)
Billy Bob Bubba
The Natural Blonde (a palomino)
Gift Horse
and I just met a pinto horse today called U Mist Aspot
and we also have C Spot Trot
Forrest Jump
and the should-be-related Miss Demeanor and Miss Behavin', (although Miss Demeanor had a foal called Felony)

Feb. 13, 2000, 02:13 AM
My horse's show name is rather prosaic--Tommy Girl (as in Tommy Hilfiger clothing--her owner really liked Tommy Hilfiger stuff). Her barn name, however, is Chunk. Seeing as she's, um well, rather round. But it often comes out as Chunky Monkey, or my favorite, Chewy (chunky, chewy what's the difference--they're both food related!) No other names have come up--they just don't seem to fit somehow...

Feb. 13, 2000, 10:30 AM
Oh, well, if we're going to get into stable names /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif -- then mine seem to gather a whole raft of those, though technically, I guess they're more nicknames that I use depending on how I feel at any given moment.

My thourobred - basic stable name - "Promise"(because she fills a promise I made to myself when I was a kid to someday have a horse). Sweetest thing in the world but, the light bulb isn't on that terribly bright, hence "Fuzzy Numb Noggin", usually used right after she does something unusually dumb. Also "Giddy Girl" for those occasions when she remembers she's a tb.

My polish warmblood - basic stable name - "Stormy" - because his show name is "Red Storm", yeh, I know it's original. He's the original bad boy that you can't help but love, so, a lot of the time I end up calling him "Sinner Man". When he's REALLY bad we all have been known to call him "Grampa A**h***".

My old Hanoverian, Hennessy, never had a real stable name, she was always Hennessy, however, we did tend to call her "Your Imperialness" on occasion, because she ruled, and she knew it!

Feb. 13, 2000, 05:17 PM
I'm a vaulter and when I was in Colorado this summer @ nationals I met a horse named Captain. His name fit him sooooo well. Probably because he was 19.2!!

Feb. 13, 2000, 06:04 PM
My best friend used to have the most stunning little bay horse named "Bubble n' Squeek", named for the traditional dish. He was about 15.3 and had the shiniest coat that just gleamed; he was really an eye-catcher. I always thougt the name suited him!

Feb. 13, 2000, 09:32 PM
We had an OTT TB in our barn who was registered as 'Potscrubber'... some things just were never meant to be understood!
His barn name was Copper, cause his owner at the track was a policeman, but he showed as 'On A Whim' cause that is why he was bought. Won a lot of stuff ... but you were better off on his back than near his teeth.

Feb. 13, 2000, 09:54 PM
LOBITO! That is terrible...naming a horse "The announcer"! Can you imagine?!?!
"So and So riding The announcer?!" LOL! That is the funniest thing I have heard in a long time /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Ben and Me
Feb. 13, 2000, 10:02 PM
Some of the best I've heard:

*The Midas Touch (for a green horse turned great by our outstanding trainer hehe)
*Smokin in the Girl's Bathroom
*Kickin N Grinnin
*Little Rascal
*Wash, Rinse, Repeat
*Golden Girl (Palamino)
*Go for the Gold (Palamino, barn name Gopher)
*My Blue Eyed Girl (Bluey 23's pony, a cute pinto w/ obviously Blue eyes)
*Moonpie and an RC Cola (my friends former large pony, how appropriate for us southerners!)
*Just the two of us
*Before and After (I came up with that one, a stroke of genius I must admit, it was a horse that my trainer bought for $800 and brought back from skin and bones. I later showed him, we did so well, he's like a 10 mover and the sweetest horse ever!)

Feb. 14, 2000, 12:27 AM
Salsalito- That's exactly why I want to do it. Teeheehee. I'm evil. http://www.chronofhorse.com/ubb/tongue.gif

Feb. 14, 2000, 04:46 PM
A friend of mine named her horses after different beers. She had a pony named Corona and a horse named Tequoti(or is it Tekoti? I'm only 15 So i don't know the spellings on these things!) /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Blue Devil
Feb. 14, 2000, 05:54 PM
Lobito- I like Hot Damn (if you are referring to Whitney Boyce's Junior Jumper). But the name Hot Sauce (her other jr. jumper) is kind of strange...

Dolce Vita
Feb. 14, 2000, 09:36 PM
Sprite1212 wanted to name a horse Missed A Sopt, which sounds kinda bad, but she usually has good names!!!!!!! /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif hehe

Ben and Me
Feb. 14, 2000, 09:45 PM
I just thought of a cute name for a horse with big socks

Rock my Socks~its kinda an inside joke between my friends, maybe I'll name my next horse that! Hehe! /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Feb. 14, 2000, 11:56 PM
I used to ride a chestnut gelding called "One Red Cent". He was SHINY like a new penny. He was great before he got old, won a bunch of hunter stuff around Quebec, Canada. But it was a strange name, kind of :P

Feb. 15, 2000, 04:37 PM
Ben and Me: I showed a lge appy pony named "Rock My Spots." My friend has an extremley leggy Tb w/ white legs so they call him Leggs!

Feb. 16, 2000, 09:45 PM
At our barn, there's a horse named MoJo, I don't remember his show name, but he's got a playboy bunny branded on his butt.
He's got a rep on the circuit "that horse that Miranda's kid shows with the playboy bunny on his butt."
He's adorable

Feb. 16, 2000, 10:22 PM
Emil Spadone used to, and possible still does, show a horse named "The Girl Next Door." As you can imagine, it is a name that poses somewhat of an...um...challenge to announce. "And our next competitor on course is Emil Spadone on The Girl Next Door."

And a special P.S. to Trixie: I ride in Maryland and I must plead guilty to calling your horse "that horse with the playboy bunny on his butt." /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Feb. 18, 2000, 06:19 PM
Ok, a few to add to the list. There is a horse at local shows with the name I Can't Believe It's Not Butter, I have no clue where that came from. Another is White Pony Can Jump, what is slightly better, but is still very odd. On a lighter note there is an Appalousa pony with the name See Spot Jump, the pony is as cute as the name.

My horse actually didn't have a show name. I always wanted to name him either Delayed Reaction or Jump Start (22 y/o TB gelding), but instead we had Nylar. Also known as Nylon, Nyler, Mylar, or any other combination that people came up with. We've also got:

Dreams Do Come True
Island Native
Alert the Media
Clean Slate
Texas Two-Step

and I've heard some pretty funny ones at the shows that we go to, but this cold is currently fogging up my brain.

Mar. 8, 2000, 01:28 PM
I showed a horse last year named Ybinuifusedildo. (Why buy new if used will do) I just couldn't stand reading the last part of it in print or something without laughing histerically!

Mar. 8, 2000, 01:37 PM
theres a prelim eventer wh oshows under the name Arrive Alive, LOL

Mar. 8, 2000, 01:47 PM
Chuck, being the master of randomness that he is, always has some kind of cheesy name for his sales horses... my personal favorite was a big roan who was shown as "Roan Me A Dollar", and of course there was a "Roan on the Range" and I believe there was at one time a "Whodunnit" (guess what color... /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif) Also, my best friend when I was 9 wanted me to call my first horse (barn name Molly) "Fiddler on the Hoof"... we went with Good Golly Miss Molly instead. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Okay, question... was there really a horse named "Legendary Chicken Fairy" out there somewhere????? Cuz I told someone I wanted that to be Chaska's show name (you'd have to know Chaska to understand... /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif) but they told me the name was taken... any input??

Mar. 8, 2000, 02:34 PM
Em>I actually used to ride a large pony named Fiddler on the Hoof. He was the best packer in the barn.

Oh, thought of another name. Horse that shows the local circuit around here is named Sure-Win Williams. I never actually got it until I saw it written down, always thought the announcer was saying Sherwin!

Mar. 9, 2000, 12:31 AM
My sister had a TB back in the 70s whose registered name was "Gay Rebellion". His show name was "Gandalf the Grey".

Mrs. Waller told us ther was another registerd TB named "Gay Romance".

Sidney Poitier's duaghter used to show a horse called "Sir". (Maybe you have to be old for that to make sense.

A friend of mine had a horse named "Neibon" (sp?) which is Japanese for "Second". She tried changing his name, but nothing ever took. When she bought him he had two gaits, a jig and a flat out gallop. A couple of years later, she was riding him in an equitation class where one of the tests was a figure 8 at the canter, with a change of lead through the walk, somebody next to me on the rail said "Yeah, I could do that too if I had a pushbutton horse like that."

Knew a girl years ago with a horse called "Hoof Hearted". Say it fast a couple of times.

My sisters 16.3 gray hunter was Cool Expression. Loved that one.

Her jumpers is "Hello Newman". We always get a few smiles from that, especially if the anouncers get it.

Dustin Hoofman was another favourite barn name.

Mar. 10, 2000, 08:33 PM
white horse = "Strip And Go Naked"

my fav was "Better Than You" (I have a tape of one of my shows and the announcer was reading the schooling jumper placings, my friend won and BTY was second)

Mar. 10, 2000, 09:05 PM
A friend of mine has a horse who's barn name is Tragic...he's 18 and she used to show him as Satin's Kitten. Now, he has a much better name for his last year in the show ring...Epilogue.
Another TB name Bad Cookie
and My Old Folks Myth
and Chilly Water--his mom was Emily's Hot Tub.

Mar. 11, 2000, 10:26 AM
My TB's barn name is Skipper but registered name is Dr. Buster; sire is Sentimental Slew and dam is Visibly Bold(love that name!). Don't know where the Dr. Buster came from but I hate it so I'm showing him under the name "Certainly Slew". I know people say it's bad luck to change a name but I'm keeping his barn name and so far (Knock wood), no bad luck............

I know someone (she's online, too) with a jumper prospect named Kamakaze Duck. I don't think she really wants to sell him, though.

Mar. 11, 2000, 01:23 PM
How about a gorgeous HUGE chestnut named "Gold Bubbles"???

Mar. 11, 2000, 04:24 PM
I've seen some weird (and bad) ones...

Oh No Misty Moon (okay, whatever)

Areacode (the girl's show # happened to be her area code so she thought it was funny)

Bring on the Blues ( a jumper I know)

My friends hunter is 'Autopilot' (and he does go on one - sometimes)

Hell's Angel (okay not original but funny)
Lecture Series (weird but cute)
Bartender Please (thats a name?)
Under Construction (a green hunter)

And some that I'm like - okay - bad
~Futes Bala Boots
~too Tall Sam
~Lark's Little Go-Go

The list could go on...

Just found this thread - some great names!
And here are a few more:
Goofin' Around (love the name - got STUCK with the cripple many years ago)
Stupid Fool (the breeder REALLY did name the poor thing that!)
Fair Warning (barn name "Killer" for good reason)
Widow Maker (would you let YOUR child ride this horse? really seemed nice in the show ring - but I have no idea of what it took to get it there!)
Compared to What? (I showed a palomino QH mare as this in hunter shows in OR many moons ago)
I always have wanted to name a jumper/reiner/ game horse "Full Tilt Boogie" after Janis Joplin's band....

Mar. 30, 2000, 12:50 AM
There are some really fun names on this site... Though this past weekend I heard some really bad ones... the vet was writting up the coggins and requested registered names. There is a very unattractive appy in for training... and that is putting it nicely... I just thought his name and show name were the same... Denali... not bad right... wrong!!! His registered name is ...
<Oh I'm So Shiny>
And my roommate thought her mare's QH name was bad... <CC Boston Cricket> was bad!!! At least her horse's name sounds like a nice New England Ale. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Mar. 30, 2000, 04:17 PM
I have to say, one of my good friends has had the worst luck with names. These are some registered names of her horses:

Aerobie- Tb mare

Czarina of April- Buckskin mare

Herrald's Allura- Morgan mare

Another friend has

Dandy Danni- Tb mare

I can't say my horse's name is that great, but she is registered it and at the time I got her, I couldn't think of anything better.

Sunset and Beverly- Chestnut TB mare

Any ideas of what it means? I have an idea, but I'm not sure....

Mar. 30, 2000, 06:49 PM
I'm guessing "Sunset and Beverly" refers to the intersection of Sunset Blvd. and Beverly Drive in Hollywood. I used to work near there (in a restaurant).

Given what goes on at the corners of lots of those intersections on Sunset (ever see "Pretty Woman" ?) I wonder if naming the mare this was a comment on her morals????

How about a children's horse named Oliver Klothsoff? "on course now is Jane Doe with Oliver Klothsoff." /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Jun. 14, 2001, 07:01 PM
I always said that I would take my tb to a schooling show somewhere and call him "The Village Idiot" for laughs. Of course his real show name (and barn name) "Bucksnort" wasn't much better.

Jun. 14, 2001, 07:39 PM
My fave: Don't Tell Daddy...(small pony at Pony Finals 1999)

Jun. 14, 2001, 09:00 PM
My filly's registered named was Alexa and we called her Lexie around the barn. Well I just saw her yesterday and they are calling her Ulla. /infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Jun. 14, 2001, 09:11 PM
I once rode a young mare named LB. When I asked what it stood for, I was told "Little Bitch". Thinking this must be a joke, I was informed that her dam's name was "Bitchly". And, as heredity would have it, both were appropriate.

Jun. 14, 2001, 09:25 PM
I used to have a sgildren's hunter named Wedgie. When we bought him his name was thong so my trainer decided his show name should be "In between the Cracks" My sister still shows him!

Jun. 15, 2001, 06:26 AM
A few names from the past in the Chicago area:

Large, Palomino Pony: PRINCESS PEROXIDE
Small or Medium Pony: GOLDA MY MARE

Jun. 15, 2001, 07:10 AM
I saw a great one recently:

We had a grey colt a few years ago, whose registered name was D*ck. Seriously. Dutchbred and registered name. He grew up, remained a stallion and is now a famous Grand Prix showjumper. They obviously changed his name. I can't tell you who he is - bceause it's just too embarrassing!

Jun. 15, 2001, 07:54 AM
We had a TB mare come out to be bred last year and her name was "Call For Ribs". I have no clue! They wanted to name her foal "Barb E Q Sauce". LOL

I ride, therefore I am.

Jun. 15, 2001, 08:39 AM
you will find some odd English names that perhaps sound good to a German ear if you don't know the meaning...one example i remember was Meatball. Tasty...!

Jun. 15, 2001, 09:27 AM
My old horse Dreamer's (who is in horsey heaven now) /infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif racing name was Arabian Flight. That's not too strange (except I often picture a panicked stricken Arabian running in fear!), but his sire's name was "Donut King!" I thought that was hilarious! /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Just thought I'd share...

"Never stop cantering."

Jun. 15, 2001, 09:36 AM
My horse's great-grandfather's name was "Burgermeister." I think thats just terrible!!!

Jun. 15, 2001, 09:38 AM
My friends and I were joking about funny names:

John Doe riding Very Constipated

Someone from my barn had an Appy with no spots like 5 years back and he was named "Lost My Spots" and then his mom got an Appy with tons of spots and they named it "Stole His Spots"

Jun. 15, 2001, 10:23 AM
But they sure have so far proved to be an item of discussion, and the horse is barely backed, let alone showing.
Her stable name is Liz. Something to do with mom's name and hers having to start with an "L". Fits with my name Lisa and hubby Lindsay and puppy Izzy. But I'll show her as Biarritz. Pronounced Ber-itz, a town in France. Seeing as our Canadian announcers couldn't pronounce a French name with a phonetic guide- most embarrasing example "tout de suite" (pronounced toot sweet, meaning right away)pronounced Toot Dee Soot, I am lucky enough to know the announcers and be able to 'school' them on the name!

My horsie is awesome!!!

Jun. 15, 2001, 10:54 AM
I swear. There truly was a leopard Appaloosa jumper in the '80s called The Legendary Chicken Fairy... wish I had thought of it first.

I called my first horse FOOD because he responded to it. Works for all manner of pets.

Jun. 15, 2001, 11:08 AM
Our mare was named (another AQHA thing)
Andora Pandora
My friend when I was a kid was trying to pick a show name for her horse, Buddy.
Her dad said to name it "Badly" so that when they called her name it would be Cory B riding Badly! /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Never forgot that one!

"Come hup you hugly beast!" Surtees

Knows Job

Sounds pretty straight forward, for a packer, but it is actually symbolic of me wanting a nose job. But instead, I decided to buy a horse...;) I haven't used that name yet, but it is a thought!

Also, Essuve. Sounds really elegant at first, but it stands for SUV- yet another one of those, I wanted an SUV, but I bought a horse instead.

Jun. 15, 2001, 12:40 PM
My horses show name is Neighsayer ( I may change it). Around the barn he is Magnum (official name), killer (he's so laid back its funny), Mag, peanut, Magnum the Mirauder, or as my S.O. calls him Stinky McGee.

One horse we bought years ago came with the name 'Honest Injun'. Thankfully it was not registered.

Knew a horse called 'Chocolate Decadance' strange

Always loved the name "Taking Care of Business'

Well there once was a horse named "Winnie the Pooh." Cute, yes, but not for this horse - we're talking monstrously NUTS thoroughbred here. New owner names him "Press Your Luck," don't quite know why, but whatever. One day at a show with a less-than-good announcer, he was announced as "Pressure Lock."

My old horse who was named Partially has been called Parsley more than once. She is now Buy Me A Rose - first day at the new owner's she was chased into a rosebush by the evil geese (we have nice geese at our farm).

The "sauce" theme is fairly common in TBs that descend from a sire named Sauce Boat. Tabasco Cat's dam's name was Barbecue Sauce, and she is by Sauce Boat.

Jun. 16, 2001, 01:27 PM
On the lines of food names....
My former QH had a relative named Oleo Joe.

And I have friends with a two year old TB named Soup and Fish. Now how odd is that going to sound when being announced on the track..."Coming around the far turn is Soup and Fish"...really not sure about that one...

I saw a little bitty black pony at a show last summer who went by the name of "Polly Esther" (add that to the list of first and middle name combos not to give the kids!) /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

We ended up naming him Encore. Sounds simple enough? Everyone knows what an encore is. Well at the first few shows we took him to, the announcers called him Anchor.{like on a boat} I was like, what? Now almost everyone knows him and they get it right. : )

Jun. 16, 2001, 11:06 PM
I have a friend that is a detective. She showed her horse in the jumpers and his name was "Whodunnit".

I also know of a horse that shows locally named "Oliver North". Nice horse but can't figure out where the name came from.

I knew a TB mare whose father was Sir Wiggle. Her name was Wigglebutt

I remember years ago seeing a jumper horse for sale in COTH by the name of Gopher Broke. I always liked that one /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

A unique name I've heard is Matakohe.

The worst name I've heard is Chug-a-lug (don't worry, his barn name was Buggs and we changed his show name to Hidden Agenda)

Jun. 18, 2001, 07:09 PM
There's an Appy/hano called Spot The Difference.
An appy called Bug's Bluechip.
A tb called Slew Excellence (now Mikey).
A tb who used to be called New Queen (???) but is now Consider It Done.
Palomino pony called Mr.Bojangles.
Chesnut pony called Never Before Copper.
QH called Shy Joy.

These aren't really weird to me, but other people have said that they were. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Jun. 18, 2001, 07:16 PM
Slew Excellence was most likely named for his/her breeding. Can't fault breeding based names!

Then again, this source names all horses after songs by an obscure NYC band, so you all may want to take this post with a grain of salt. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Jun. 18, 2001, 08:35 PM
we had a horse name Ickey. I always liked the name. Also my best friend when I was little had a pony named Nutn' Special, he was a dark bay pony, not very flashy, but he won everything. She would always go to pony finals. It was the perfect name.

Jun. 21, 2001, 09:32 PM
our pony came to us with the name "spumoni the pony" ughhhh! our last horse came to us with the name "chapter 11 ugh"!!!!! the horses we have now came to us with the following names "Mistah Macnamee" and "Dandy" ughhhhhhhh. We have only owned one horse whos name we liked and did not change

Jun. 23, 2001, 05:02 PM
None of you can even hold a candle to my horse's show name. My husband named her "I'd sell'er if my wife'd let me" Yes, that's her registered name with the AHSA. Let me tell you, when she wins a ribbon and her name is announced - everyone notices it.

Jun. 24, 2001, 07:40 PM
There's a horse on Long Island that shows under the name "Hot Sex"
The announcers won't even say it anymore though. They just announce the place and say "that horse is owned by..."

Jun. 24, 2001, 08:41 PM
an adult jumper named:

Pot Roast

the best part is that when you took one look at this big round blood bay warmblood you couldn't help but think "Well it fit's"

It helped that the horse was owned and shown by an older gentleman - so it was really quite cute.

Jun. 24, 2001, 08:58 PM

My mare's registered (Paint) name is Malachi Bear, and we call her Malachi or Mal around the barn. It's pronounced Mal-a-kI, but announcers always make her sound like a mafia hoodlum.... didn't help that her owner (I lease) has an Italian last name /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif So now she is Connect The Spots in shows. Hmm... my first pony came with the name Butch, but his owner changed that to Chocolate (the namer was a 10 year old boy, what can we expect). He was known as Alpo for a while while ill. At my current barn, all the horses have people names - Miss Millie (registered, too), Walter (he's German and I have no clue what his real name is), Heather, and Tommy, whose owner calls him Saint Thomas for some reason. His registered name is Red Alert... Well, The Flipper isn't a human name (he's a retired field hunter and looks about 60, sure isn't flipping now) We also had Liseter Flashing Smiles, the creative Hassan (registered as AM CALL MIE). Oliver, Fury (a beastly arab thing), Blossom (*not* a sweet pony). Paco/Chico the Paso Fino, The Colt (who had at least two "real" names) and my favorite, Charlotte's Majestic Velvet. I didn't ask.....

At shows, I've seen Catch-22, Stormin' Norman, Mr. Snuffaluffagus, Cecil B. DePony, Black Lable, Bold Charles (I like that), Sheffield (named after some silver that was sold to buy her).

Jun. 25, 2001, 09:33 AM
My 16.3 elegant dapple gray thoroughbred is "monkey Grinder", i dont know how they came up with that one. His last owners showed him as Everclear but i just show him as monkey grinder. We also have a pony named Angel in Disguise. Some of our broodmares have the oddest names including:The Green Owl, Miss Fizz and Granny Blevins. oh yeah and Easter Foil.

...but I'm pretty positive you guys are confusing the owner of the horse with someone else....and I know who this "someone else" is too. Trust me, the real thing is 100 times scarier than the one you're thinking of. /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif The one who you've seen around your barn is just a bit un-usual, I wouldn't call her "scary", and she's a very nice person from what I hear.

There is also a horse around here named, "In The Ring".

I had a grey OTTB gelding whose registerd name was Strawberry Sauce -- seems he was a chestnut roan colt at birth. It did NOT fit his regalness.

I toyed with the idea of naming this one "Ishouldhaveboughtthesportscar" or "Insurancemoney" but didn't. We've also been known to consider "Ralston" (for the Ralston-Purina feed company, doncha know. I know there was a pony 'round here for a while called "Don't tell momma".

since my horse's name is Mystery and nobody knows who she is (shes a greenie) we showed her at our first schooling show as "The Mystery Horse". So it was ___ ____ riding the mystery horse... i cracked up everytime they announced it. i personally think the dumbest names are the ones that are four miles long. you know, like Wind Chime Farm's Little Cute As A Button Muffin... whoa, take a breath. My two favorites are "Get Your Own Coffee" and "My Mercedes", those are just too cute! I was thinking of calling my horse "Predictably Perfect", she is usually very good, but this just dawned on me... ___ ___ riding Predictably Perfect. Hehe

Given what goes on at the corners of lots of those intersections on Sunset (ever see "Pretty Woman" ?) I wonder if naming the mare this was a comment on her morals???? <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

LOL. I know this horse! I doubt that the name had anything to do with her morals. She is too busy being THE BOSS to look at the guys. /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Now, her "sister", sjh's other mare, would have definatly fit that innuendo. She is VERY interested in the guys, and would get a LOT of business on the street corner judging from the gelding's reactions to her! /infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

after beers and drinks. I can't remember what breed the horse was, but I looked at some huge WB awhile ago named Martell, after a drink. It's just a tradition for a certain registry. I wanna say Trakehner, but I'm not certain...

My Mini, Toppers, is from a farm called Dunrovin, and I've seen their horses at shows I take him to, and there's a cute lil' stallion named Dunrovin's Lonely Boy....

My friends pony was named Tornado and he was the slowest pony ever.

Catastrophe- and trust me, she is. Her Mom's name was Calamity Jane. /infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

One of my ponies was named Punky when I bought her and my Mom wanted me to call her "Punky Brewster" I absolutely hated it and opted for "Spunky Punky" which suited her but is STILL a crappy name.

I think I'll name one of my horses "Hugh Jass"

Ollie North was a Marine officer who got in a bit of trouble a few years back for what was called "The Iran Contra Affair". Involved selling stuff to Iran when we weren't supposed to be selling them anything.

I have bought a few ex-racers off the track and their registered names were horrible. My beautiful (but evil) bay mare was Ima Moose (renamed Akiva). Her barn name stayed Ima, and depending on the day the rest of her name changed, (ie Ima Angel, Ima b#$@#). By the end we were calling her Iams after the dog food! Poor gal's barefoot and pregnant somewhere now.

My hunter was Hi Papa, called Popsie. Of course I didn't help him out much by changing his name to Wallflower (he wasn't the prettiest thing-but just a sweetie). Barn name became Jakob after the band.

I'm sure there's so many more bad names out there...

Jan. 3, 2002, 01:04 PM
hifi mentioned "Smart As" - one of my favorites also. Say it out loud if you don't get it. I didn't know the horse, but I'm told it was a perfect description.

Another one from around the same time was "The Yuppie From Hell" - an amateur jumper, I think.

Jan. 3, 2002, 07:36 PM
...some of those are pretty funny. I used to ride a QH, ex-polo pony in the eq ring. His show name was "Remote Control." This was only funny b/c in our first few shows, he was NOT in control at all! Bolting, bucking, running out, ect. We should've changed his name to "Out of Control." /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Another weird one I remember from WAAAAAY back was Pompaidou (incorrect spelling I'm sure, but I think named after a French general or something.) He was a VERY round, VERY fat, VERY bouncy, VERY naughty white pony. /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

On the internet, I ran into a woman with a STB racehorse she called "PITA." It stood for "Pain In The A$$." Apparently, PITA won some races!

My friend used to work at a barn where a lady bought a new horse, but took forever to come up with a name. The horse was an idiot, so my friend and the other barn staff started calling him "Dumba$$." It stuck among the staff even after she gave him a real name.

The best? A lady who used to board at my barn had a horse named Sugar. Her daughter's black pony was named Bart. Nicknames? "Booger and Fart." /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

oh i know some awful and good show names: The most awful one is a Qh mare named "She's a Hut" ewww i would never show under that.
My horse's name isn't great and i would have changed it if it didnt go along with his breed ( myth of a hoax king from the area his breed orginated) Prester John its awful because it has been mis pronounced in a few ways my favorite was Professor John- if i changed it he would have been shown under "Mellow Yellow" b/c he is a light golden bay(yellowy bucksin color) although he isnt alaways that mellow.
Some other good names are Final fling (a lagre pony i used to show the farm has 3 out of the same mom and dad and he was the youngest. Electric Man might be a name of an up comming foalt if its a boy (out of electric design and Harbor man) Ok i guess i will stop now.

Jan. 3, 2002, 10:53 PM
KAVU is my current horses name - it stands for Klear Above Visibility Unlimited, after a clothing company out of Seattle. - He is a TB and his registered name is U Dirty Rat - how awful!!! Also my first TB's registered name was Love Explosion....maybe not the best show name in the childrens arena at the time......but I used it anyway!!

I understand what you're saying Erin, but why in the world would they mix two languages? I wish I could just call up his breeders and ask what they were thinking. Yes Because? Because Yes? I mean really, Quid Oui?

Oh, I have another one. I'm riding this incredibly talented, but kind of idiot horse right now. His new owner is going to let me show him, so my friends and I were tossing around show names. OUr collective favorite thus far??

We ended up naming the new horse Rienne De Rouge(meaning Nothing Red since the only color I didn't want was a chestnut and guess what she is!?)Daughter has a friend at the barn whose roping QH is named Horny F@#$@r. The horse came with this name... I find it amazing that was allowed. They call her Tessy though.
We are hoping they don't mess up Rienne De Rouge too badly, but really liked it so decided to go with it anyway. Hopefully when she's healthy and daughter actually gets to finally show her they'll get it right.

I remember a Dressage horse named WHY JUMP?

My Appy was shown under App-Salute

Jan. 4, 2002, 11:28 AM
Some tb's get odd names through typos. My friend had a filly who they wanted to call Mezzanine. They sent the paperswork to the JC and got a certificate reading MezzaniVe. It would have cost them to change it even though the mistake was made by the registry. If they had been bigger breeders, I'm sure it would have been corrected.

Knaughty Knickers

My pony's name was Star Miller - I could never figure that one out. We changed it to Catch A Star. Not the best, but a lot better than the former.

Jan. 11, 2002, 07:55 PM
My first horse's registered QH name was Champagne Money.

My second horse I couldn't make up my mind on what his show name was going to be. At first it was Sundance because his barn name was Sonny. But then I chaged it to "Sonny Side Up", keeping his barn name in it. Later I found out that his registed QH( he was an appendix QH/TB) name was Opus Magnum.

My third horse's show name is First Priority, which she is.

I had this cute little appy pony for my son. Her barn name was star. The place I got her from was called Starlite. So I put it all together and came up with..."Starlite's 'Lil Appy". I thought that was cute, especailly her being all of 14 hands.

When things are not going your way, hold on. Your luck WILL change sooner or later. If we can live through Cancer and come out NEGATIVE at the end, there always a chance.

A woman at my old barn had a horse name "On Course Now", as in the announcer would say,"And on course now is Miss _____ _____ riding On Course Now"....somewhat cute...
I know there's at least one horse named "Special K"...does this refer to getting high on Ketamine or the cereal or none of the above?
I remember there was one woman who named all of her horses something related to either Sex or Sex on the Beach and other drinks, I'm not sure which one...
I've also heard of "Starvin' Marvin" for a skinny horse and "Sausage"??? for a fat horse.

Jan. 16, 2002, 07:38 PM
My friend Meagan and I shows at one show... They didn't pronounce either of our horses show names. My pony's was "Cocoa Chanel" they pronounced it "Cocoa Channel" and Meagans pony's was "Sailor Moon" (a mare) and they pronounced it "Sailor Man" Ick! How embarassing. /infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

Trust me, counting ceilings tiles is fun!! Have you ever tryed to make ants?? Well that's pretty fun too. Who here likes llama pellets?? Ever tried piling all the pillows in your house in your dining room and diving onto them from the ottoman? Well that's pretty fun too! AHHHHH the school jello is after me!!! Wait.....is that Michael Jackson and a Hershey's bar?? Uhhh...I think I'll go vacuum the cat or shampoo the lawn....you know something productive like that.

at an event last year there was a guy doing training level on a very big-boned, wide and not very feminine-looking brown mare. Her name: Large Marge. We got a kick out of that name.

Jan. 16, 2002, 08:28 PM
What a fun topic!!

I rode an awesome, super fast child/adult jumper named "Daddy's Airplane" : the father of the girl who owned him was going to buy and airplane but ended up with a horse instead. His barn name (which suits him perfectly) is "Bird".

I rode a large pony that was brown and white....her name was "Double Stuff" you know, like the oreo!

I know of a hunter out of a famous Canadian Sport Horse Stallion, "Play for Time" that is called "For Play"!!! I wonder what the announcers are going to do with that one....

Jan. 16, 2002, 09:23 PM
Race name: "Where's The Beer Stand"

It actually suited her quite well since sh cantered like she was drunk!

I think it would have been kinda cool to show her under that....

When I was at the woodbine races, I heard some really cute names:

Jury Duty - out of "Excuses"

Nobody is Perfect.

Sep. 5, 2004, 06:43 PM
My first horse was a morgan and his registered name was Bald Mountain Bachus. hmm some other ones. A woman at the barns jumper is named Marienfatter and actually there was a funny story about that one. Her barn name is max and they were at a show and the announcer kept murdering her name so her trainer told him just to announce her as max. The owner told the trainer that they couldn't do that cause it wasn't her registered name. THe trainer told the owner to start winning and they'd worry about it.

My Paint's barnname is Curly, which comes from his registered name (if you can imagine.. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif). Over the last four years he's picked his own showname... "Whats My Alibi" for all the dang mischief he caused and is STILL causing.

My old horse, a Palomino who could jump absolutely anything but was as dumb as a pile of rocks showed and cliniced under the name Not A Bottle Blonde... hehe

My friend's horse who was a dirty stopper had the name Subtle Retreat, and my friend's hyper pony mare shows under Heidi Ho (barnname Heidi).

I named my horse "Kiss Me Quick".. like the Elvis song.. it suits her well for some reason.. my friend and I joke that it's "Kiss me quick before I kick you" but she's a good girl. When I'm older I'm going to breed her, and name her foal (hopefully filly) "Kiss This"

Sep. 5, 2004, 08:39 PM
This thread is great! I have a few to add....weirdest named horse I ever met: "Bear River's Star Beam" I will never understand it, ever.
My mare was supposed to be named Live is Life (after the Opus song?? according to her breeders at least), but when registered they society made a mistake and she ended up as Life is Life, which fits her perfectly. I then named her colt Fact of Life (second choice, First Impluse wasn't available).
My saddlebred rescue is named Highland Shawn Tawna, and my mom named her BS Paint colt "A Lonsum Conclusion".

When I worked at a QH & TB breeding/racing farm, we had a QH baby that we needed to name. His owner's last name was Gross, and his sire was Totally. Totally Gross!! But we didn't call him that, though talk about funny.

When I was a junior in the early 70s I had a 17 hand appendix QH (tb & qh), whose registered name was Colonel Bird Dog! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif He never showed under THAT name LOL but somehow ended up with the barn name of Coondog... http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Sep. 5, 2004, 10:28 PM
My first horse was a morgan mare and her registered name was Valhalla Darling (valhalla (sp?) is a paradise)
My TB Mare's registered name is Lady from Kent. what is that all about??
Her sire is Hermitage and her dam is One Dancer (out of northern dancer lineage).
You'd think someone would have at least made an attempt with 'dancer'

Sep. 5, 2004, 10:56 PM
I'm so bad... me and my friends were bored and decided to give my mare a Quarter Horse show name:

Leap A Flashy Blu

But then it isn't QH-y enough without "Zippo" or whatever in it. My trainer is really embarrassed about Blu's show name though, but whatever I like it!

Sep. 5, 2004, 11:24 PM
My horse's name isn't weird: Made You Look. I love it so much- she's such a princess that she really struts her stuff at shows. it's totally fitting.

My friend's horse has the most hillarious name: Kalculated Risk. We call him Risky, and he's the most calm docile horse ever. Show announcers always make some comment about how hopefully they'll get around safely or something.

Sep. 5, 2004, 11:28 PM
Oh yeah, a GORGEOUS palomino, who we unfortunately didn't get to keep (bad horse-trader story http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

Funny show names? Heard of a horse called Flying Nun. One was called Another Excuse, although it's quite a good little jumper. An ex-racehorse we retrained to jump was originally called Shuttle Desire. We had one called Chi-Chi and here's one I find adorable: a play on Markus Fuchs' Tinka's Boy - Tinker's Girl. Joey Darby's ARRIVE ALIVE [and if you saw him around a Grand Prix course you wouldn't think he would]

I had a junior catch ride on a horse named I Can Dance. The announcer kept saying, I Can Dance with Cindi Perez...it was verrrrrrrry embarrasing!

One of the horse's show names in my barn is "Dave's Horse," because they could never really think of a good name for him. :P

Another, the CUTEST little pony EVER -- a bay with white socks & big giant blaze (looks like a mini Budweiser clydesdale), his barn name is Spud and his show name is "Tater Tot."

I don't know of any silly names, I guess, but a palomino pony in the ciruit up here has the name "14 Carrot," and Petey's show name is "Limited Edition." :P And there's this adorable brown mare named "Brown Eyed Girl," but not really any silly ones...Hm. :P

I have a Percheron who I am planning to show exensively when she gets older (dressage/H/J), whom I named Justamere Shadow (grandsire is Justamere Showtime), because she was black and a pretty shy horse. Well, darn it, she's going grey!!! I don't feel I can change her name, so my mom says her name stands for Justamere Shadow (of her former self...)

Who ever heard of a white horse with the name Justamere Shadow??? Arghhh...

This is what I get because her barn name is Mouse...

My first horse's show name was ... Whatever. We called him Rocky though lol. On the way to a horse show we realized we didnt have a name for him so my trainers and this other girl just put down Whatever lol. Made for some interesting looks from other people when i was doing my course lol.
