If you had a day to kill in or around Ocala, FL in June, and were casually horse shopping for nice dressage horses (under $40k) who would you contact to fill up your day?

Stacy Parvey-Larsson usually has some really nice horses:

You could also try Fernando Cardenas:

Shelley Van den Neste is a little bit further north at Sunrise Farms, just outside of Gainesville. Really, there are too many to list. Try the usual sales sites to see whats for sale right now in the area, because there are a lot of smaller farms with great horses around here!

No help, but gosh dang, can we trade lives?

I can't imagine saying, "You know, I have a day to hang out, I like to shop....oh crap, just make sure I don't blow more than $40K."

I have a farrier friend with a cheap draft horse addiction. The family rule is that he leaves his checkbook on the table when he goes to the annual auction.

Have fun.

Oh no no no no no... I wish!
I'm horse shopping and my job is taking me to FL for a meeting. I booked my flight back 48 hours late so I could use the trip to horse shop too. It just so happens that my horse mentor's job is sending her to FL for a meeting the following week, so shes coming down a few days early to accompany me.
my horse shopping trip is costing me the price of a rental car.

Please post links or contact info for recommendations. Names aren't yielding much on their own, and I'm not part of the Florida scene so these aren't household names for me :)

I just wanted to add that Fernando Cardenas, Jr lives/works in the Triangle. His father's farm is in FL. Just saying this because he could also be helpful with horses in your area as well as in FL. He is a nice, stand up, guy, too.

Awesome. A rental car and maybe a Happy Meal at Mickey D's is all this will cost you.... maybe.

If my draft horse-addict buddy were in your shoes, he'd say, "Clearly, God lined up events in such a way that He's commanding me to buy a horse."

But his wife would act as a more local and more impressive deity to be obeyed. She laid down the "Yeah, well, the checkbook had better be on the kitchen table when I get up" rule.

Don't forget that there is a lot of nice TBs in the area available for a lot less if you want to do some of your own (re) training.

Eline usually has some nice ones: http://www.eckrothdressage.com/home.cfm She is in Summerfield, about 10 miles south of downtown Ocala just off HWY 42.

And oh yes,;) I have my horse for sale as well: http://www.dressagedaily.com/market/horse-market/gideon :D

Eline has been wonderful to speak with, and I prefer her horses over many of the others I've found ads for, but she will be out of town during my trip. She's definitely getting filed under future contacts.

Hi, I agree with Stacy Parvey, she has some really nice mares right now. Also, contact Sharon Jerderman she is right ouside of Ocala. She has a really nice gelding she just got in that isn't advertised yet. I wish I knew about him before I got my new horse. http://www.sjerdemandressage.com/index.html

Yes, check out Sharon Jerdeman-Bates. All the others mentioned have a lovely selection as well.

I agree with Stacey and Sharon. If you want to drive north a bit (about an hr N of Ocala) there is Valhalla Farm, which is down-sizing and moving towards a training barn instead of a breeding farm.

Here are some that I know:

Kate Wilson (primarily hunters, but does usually have some lovely Dressage horses too!) http://www.katesjumpers.com/

You can also try Maria Hallet - http://www.hallettraining.com/

My trainer is Tracy Bregman and she may have something available or know of some nice horses. I know whe is schooling and showing some for clients that are for sale (the horses, not the clients lol!). http://www.facebook.com/#!/virginia.bregman or call her at 352-427-7345 as that is the best way to reach her.

Enjoy and please let us know if you find a new horse!

I second this! You might think about contacting Jr before you make your trip. He spends quite a bit of time in Ocala, and often has a pretty good idea of whats available down here.

I should also add that Sr's website is not up to date. He often has horses in the barn that never make it onto the website.

Good luck and have fun!

Not sure what age you're looking for but check with Dr. Sandi Lieb at Pennock Point Sport Horses in Reddick. She generally has youngsters but sometimes has something older.

My trip is packed! I'm riding at least 6 one day (andalusians and traks) and then one more before I hop on a plane home.
...I can hear my abs screaming now...
Should be fun!

Judy Yancey may have a couple under saddle. I think she has sold her Quaterback mare, but I believe she has a Don Schufro mare now under saddle. And, last I heard, her palomino Lusitano stallion was also for sale.
