Alex Foreman may be the oldest, but he is no longer active. Unfortunately, he is in a nursing home with Alzheimers. Either the NJPHA or NJHSA (or both) donate the profits from their annual horse shows to help with his care costs. /infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

So, perhaps, the oldest ACTIVE one would be Col Marsh? (Steward & judge)

Since yd mentioned Kelso, who DID own him? Who rode him at Madison Square Garden? What year? What classes? /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

(I met the woman after whom he was named - neat person! And she loved that horse!)

buryinghill2
Feb. 5, 2002, 11:23 AM
The Artesian had so many riders it's impossible to know where to begin.
I think Bronze Image was Laura Swenson's jumper. Chestnut with a white blaze?

Steve Hawkins or Shorty or Hank Hulick

Owned by Mrs. DuPont - Lana DuPont (now Wright - first woman to compete in 3Day Olympics)'s mother.

Ridden by Mike Plumb. Not in a division - only jumped around 3 foot as a demo... (Even we little PC'ers could see that was about the great horse's limit!) (oh, it might have been 3'6")

You know, I do not remember what year - but I think closer to 65 than 67 - but ??

I am sure the Colonel is older than Hawkins or Hanks!

Ah hell Weatherford, lets give the age catagory to Shorty! Should go over REALLY well. I did think that Steve may be older??? Not sure if Col Marsh is still judging???

Oh yd, hope you post that picture of Melty. What a good guy he was/is. He really has taught many people out here.

Mr Muskie was owned by Doc Severinson - he was a registered Quarter Horse, and ridden by Alan in the Jr Jumpers. Alan also won the first AQHA Congress $10,000 added Jumper Sweepstakes (1973) - (It was a round and two jump off course, second jumpoff against the clock - they put the jumps up TWO holes for each round and it started at 4'!!) (I stood behind him in that class - only 4 of us made it to the final jumpoff of 40 or more starters! /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif )

Mr. Muskie was also shown by Michelle McEvoy - who won the silver medal at the Women'w World Championships in La Baule, France in 1974. Unfortunately, he died on the way home. /infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

He was originally bought as a yearling at auction by (forgot their name) in the Mid West somewhere - because he was "so ugly, we felt sorry for him"!!

A related question?

How many riders showed up to the show the morning after Kim's Song was retired?

I am sure this brings back many memories for many of you. I heard the story for the first time while sitting in the POD Wednesday.

And yes the POD is home to the Mogavaro and Ring 8 announcer. The judges for Ring 8 sit by the ring though. Next week it will also be home to dressage.

It is a very complex building. Complete with it's own "facilities" just outside the door. Imagaine a warm Sunday afternoon!

I'd call it Survivor!

I sent an email to Erin yesterday to see if she could do anything (I think it was probably my pictures that finally did it in).

Maybe we could move the first 50 pages to a different thread?

And yes the POD is home to the Mogavaro and Ring 8 announcer. The judges for Ring 8 sit by the ring though. Next week it will also be home to dressage.

I have been to the POD to visit DD and KK (when he is not in the tower). Just didn't know it had a name!

remember what year it was, but I do know the horse show and hotel...All those horse shows and seasons just all run together! But I think it was one of the first years I worked for J & C.

Don't bother Guessing Who
Alex requested a picture of the "other" sister.

(What was I thinking, except - I am sure my eyes are closed, it is the only jump I couldn't knock down, and you couldn't pay me enough to do this now!)

Anyway - it is from 1979 or 1980.

Where was it taken?

Tampa, the old GP field. The hunter ring was on the other side of the lovely canopied area!

I guess that was too easy. Laurie is right (as usual).

I thought it was Tampa, but then I figured that was too simple, it must be some obscure show in Europe that just LOOKS like Tampa!

IOW, I thought it was a trick question. /infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Saw Emmet outside Bageland today.
I had just purchased lotto tickets at THE Star Liquor store.
I will get her to check in with y'all! Maybe SHE remembers said partee

I'd try a different store, yd. I don't think lightning strikes in the same place too often.

sorry MAD, i haven't had a chance to reply to your email yet...

folks, i think it's time to let the thread go. /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif it's been fun, but honestly, it's dwindled down to just a small group of people participating. time to move on!

That's right Erin - As Dr. Phil McGraw says on Oprah - "It's OK to look at the past - just don't stare at it."

Not relevant to showing I suppose - but I really like Dr. Phil.

the Kim's Song question! Karen is going to ask Bruce. It was during WIHS, held at the Hilton (which has changed hands many times but I believe it was the Hilton at that time). Just need the year. I'm guessing 1979.

interest will wane, temporarily, when there are horse shows going on (Emmet, KLG for example, are too busy to be on the 'net right now). I still want to keep it going; if we need to start a new "part II" because of the size, so be it, but it is pretty cool to see 83 pages of our trivia.

Maybe we can have a "Double Jeopardy Photos" thread for guess who's and "can you believe I looked like that?" for Alex! /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

What happened to Alex's post that I am responding too???
