SPEED HORSES --
Name the mare that Leslie used as a speed horse. She was wicked fast, but had NO breaks --- at Ocala one year, Leslie had to circle the ring about 5 times after finishing the course because she could not get the mare to stop (or even slow down...)

The very first speed horse that Leslie had was a mare named Casablanca. The Mckinney's owned her.
I don't remember ever bringing her to Fla. though. Of course, it was a long time ago, so maybe... She was Leslie's speed horse at her first world cup final in Baltimore. What year was it Laurie? Conrad won with Balbuco.

Yes, it was Bunny and George Weber who won three of four jumping classes at NY that year. She was second in the fourth class. That class was won by Hoodwink ridden then by Carl Linder.

We called Watership Down "Bunny" around the barn. He was frequently into trouble though, and when I was mad at him I would call him "Watership" and on occasion worse. He wasn't always the most pleasant guy to be around. I once turned my back on him in the stall and he came across the length of the stall and grabbed me by the shoulder. Left a sizeable bruise and teeth marks. I loved him though, and I think he mellowed as he got older. He was always a blast to ride, in spite of "the spook" as Timmy called it. He was certainly a horse that always challenged us...

I have the cutest pic of Soupy and Dudley nose to nose with their grooms "waiting" on the ramp at Washington. Too bad I can't post it, or probably even find it!
Those days seem so long gone, especially now.
By the way, for all you former caretakers...Sally Ike brought saddle blankets to the Gold Cup for all to wear. I can hardly describe how it felt to put one of those on again.

That would be correct. The Europeans were so impressed with Katie and Jonesie, that the cheering at the end was definitely slanted towards her, much to Hugo's chagrin! Gladstone (how ironic!) was a lovely horse...
Jonesie contracted a horrible disease, purpura, while in Sweden, and was out for a long time. However, he did make a comeback. He also won another big class. Can anyone tell me what class it was and when? Also, who was Jonesie's groom who saw him through his illness?

you may have been thinking of Tommy Veile, who worked for eons for the Team, but went to Hunterdon after leaving Gladstone, and had the care of Jonesie in Sweden and when he got sick. But Pancho saw him through the illness and recovery, using placentas (I want to say lamb)to poultice his hind legs in from ankle to stifle, more than once a day to start. It was quite a radical treatment, but Danny can take full credit that the horse lived, much less performed again!
I had the answer for Ruxton, one of the few hunter questions I'll be able to answer, but schmoe beat me to it!

"Pappy," also did the equitation; I believe he was Buddy's Medal win mount. Derby Hill was his farm in South Salem. Do not know the street name.
Katie had Silver Exchange and later Silver Skates. Could Silver Skates be the gray in question?
For those still on the liver chestnut question, it was Pantheon and Jethro I was looking for.

Many people have named animals after people, but how many have named their child (McLain) after their favorite horse? LOL
Next question: Who owned that barn on Rt 22 and Guard Hill before Barney and what was the name of the barn then? (This is a *slight* trick question -- the person who knows the exact answer probably lived in Bedford during that time.)
(And who was riding through the arch into the stable yard of said barn when she first heard the news that Kennedy had been shot? --- Answer: me.... Don't we all remember where we were at that exact moment?)
[As an aside, I was riding when I heard about Kennedy (and was told by the head groom, Fred). I was driving to ride my horse in Ca. when I heard about the Challenger disaster on the radio and I was on my way to the Keeneland Yearling Sales when I got a call on my cell phone about the attack on the WTC. Seems like I am always involved with horses, only the technology of the communication of the information becomes more sophisticated...]

Mr Bumpkin has no clue, but I chose the name Devon for my daughter's middle name, because I loved the lovely grey hunter Devon.
He was sold from here to the East coast many years ago and passed away a few years back.

Fairweather Farm was owned by the Lords. "Old" Mr Lord's second wife was Margot Graham, who was MUCH younger. I don't remember her horse's name.
The Fairweather Farm Family Horse Shows were my favorite shows of the year.
Arthur Hawkins had Shannon before Barney.
New question- who ran Shannon AFTER Barney? And what private show barn did he move to after that?
What talented junior rider was killed in a freak jumping accident at Fairweather Farm Family Horse Show? (I am not ABSOLUTELY postive it was at FFFHS, but if not there at another show in N or S Salem.)

Don't know on the first one.
Before it was Coker it was Running Fox Farm, owned by "Uncle" Harry Gibson, who was MFH of Goldens Bridge Hounds, and bred TB race horses. They later moved to Colorado.
He was quite closely related (son? grandson?) to the artist of "Gibson Girl" fame. And QUITE a character himself.
Some of the first (if not the VERY first) Icelandic ponies brought into the US were stabled for a while at Running Fox.
When GBHPC split into a Northern (N and S Salem) and Southern (Bedford) division, the southern group was named Running Fox PC.

But my source said that your clue that the horse and owner/rider had a long career might have to be disputed because Jane never showed Nashville Brass or Roman Lyre. It was a bit confusing I guess you were referring to Owner (Jane) and Rider (Leslie) We thought you meant that the Owner/Rider (being the same) meant a horse that Jane showed.
I told her to register to this board and add her own 2 cents. I told her to register under the name Zinger.

Mclain looked terrible, very thin, and having his "Spaz" episodes almost constantly. Dr. Mitchell drove up from Palm Beach and put him down a few days later. This was probably almost 15 years ago.
Yvonne S. was one of my favorite people. I had no idea there was a trophy in her honor at New York. After Lynn didn't have Spiff anymore, they leased Escadrille from the Nielsens for a year or so. I have never heard that story, but because it is on Long Island and it is a grey and a little bit crazy and unusual, is it a DeLeyer?

No, it was not a deLeyer.

Another two generation question.
A sucessful junior hunter rider from the late 60s has a daughter who has been very sucessful on ponies.
Her horse, while a hunter, came from jumper bloodlines.
Her trainer, who ran Shannon Stable after Barney left, was better known as a jumper trainer/rider than for the hunters.
Name the rider, her daughter, the horse, and the trainer.

J. Hulick won on Tiny's Thought? It was a chestnut with a white blaze. Does Simoneta Bulgarelli (sp) fit in this equation? Breeding: haven't got a clue.

The Terry Rudd picture does look like the old Radnor Hunt Pony Club Ring.
The Ring Master pictures was NOT Mr. Buchannan ( Debbie, Winkie & Betsy's father).
