I'm 5'7" or so, I swear I shrink/grow on a daily basis. I'm also 3" longer through the legs than the torso, which is great for riding and awful for buying pants!
Dunn is 16.1 or so (we're so exact around here with measurements LOL), but he's built like a tank so my leg doesn't look weird like it did on my narrow TB.

My horses are 14.2 and 14.3.
Except for the SGP who is 15.1. Never had such a big horse before. It's OK, except when I have to mount & dismount on the trail.

I'm 5'4 - 5'5 and she is 15.3, but since she is big barreled she looks a lot bigger. She is the perfect size for me - takes up my leg without looking too small or too big.

I'm 5'6" and my horses are 15h1" (but he will be bigger before he is backed), 15h1", 15h2" and 16h1".
I consider 16h1" "big", not "small".

I am 5'7" and my horses are 16.3 and 16.2hh (but still growing- should top out ~17hh). My leg is quite long (35" inseam)- my upper body is quite short. So, even though I am not that tall, I look better on a taller beastie.

Nov. 21, 2001, 12:12 PM
I am 5'11 and 3/4, with long legs (all my pants are talls) and a long upper body (hunt coat is custom, and most sleeves on "nice" clothes have to be let down for me).
In the barn at present is 17.3, 16.3, and 15.3.
I "feel" best on the 17.3er, feel like I can make mistakes with my body and not get in his way. However, he has other issues I'm not alwyas capable of dealing with, so my usual mount is the 16.3h. OK, but I do feel like I can "overpower" him more than I like. The 15.3h is a lost cause (we bred him, he's supposed to be 16.3 dangit) and I'll most likely only ride him to school him on the flat.
My last horse was 16h, and I was definately too big for him, any miustakes with my body would throw him out of whack. I did once ride a 15.3 h super stocky, high headed warmblood, and felt OK on him, but he was so tank like, not much could have knocked him off-balance. Generally though, wouldn't consider something smaller than 16.2 for myself.

My hunter is 16.2ish I fit him so perfect, and my eq horse is 17.3 and I'm a tad small but its not bad. I can still fit ponies, I catch ride alot of larges, but you could put me on a chunky medium & I'd look ok, I'm a little big on smalls though haha

I'm 5'7"+., horse is 16.1-1/4, TB-type, about 1,100 lbs.
My prior beastie was a solid, level, 16.3h.h. and weighed in at about 1,450 when he was FIT. I don't want to think what he weighed when he was out of shape.
My first good event horse was 15.3-3/4, stocky but not QH build, about 1,300 lbs. Even though he wasn't tall, he filled out my leg and everyone thought he was much taller thn he was.

My upper body was a little big though.

I'm 5'5, and I haven't measured either horse in months (well, I've never measured Toga, actually). My old mare is probably around 15h3, Toga might be 16h (but is very short coupled and little - he's my sports car) and Willbur might be 15h2-3, but I haven't sticked him since he was 12 months old.
I basically fit on all of them. I couldn't imagine having to turn and stear a land-yacht like my trainer's 16h3 heavy hunter. I rode her once and there was so much horse in front, behind, and under me that I was certain we'd accidently picked up another horse or two for the ride.
Let's see I'm 5'6 1/2" or 5'7", it's debatable but my horses are like 17hh, 16.1hh (we think he won't let us get the stick near him) and 15.2 at the but and 16 at the withers and yes he's a TB. I've ridden everything from 18.2 to 13 hands, ah yes the small pony now that was fun I showed him to customers to boot. I look "normal" on anything from 14.1 (wide) to 18.2 (skinny) I'm a very strange build my legs like look normal on anything.
But they're a guy at our barn who's like I'm gunna say 6'4" and he rides like everything in the barn including the 15.3 or 16hh Standardbred, now that is cute. He's going to ride my 16.1 skinny Belgiam WB in FL too this could be fun!!

I'm 5'8" and my mare is 15.1 1/2hh. She's a dressage horse too (is bred along very tall and good Holsteiner lines).
Good thing I closely resemble a stick insect (it's hereditary, I'm not a rabid dieter) and so we look quite good together. She has a deep girth and so only my heels are a bit lower than the line of her body, and once she finishes growing and filling out I doubt they'll hang down at all.

I am 5'5" have had everything from a 17hh hunter to my 15.3hh jumper. Right now I have a nearly 16.1hh 2 year old (will probably finish 16.2ish) and a 15.3hh (almost 16hh) 7 year old.
Heres a pic of my 15.3 - 16hh jumper. (She was passported at 16hh but shhhh...that was with shoes on!)
I'm 5'3" with the misfortune to have gotten a dumpy German physique and I fit my 14hh* pony well.
*I've mentioned this before so long-story-short. 14hh broke the wither part of her vertebrae off short in a halter accident. 14hh has a 5yo filly and their backs, and rumps measure the same when side by side yet her filly sticks at 15.2hh.

I'm 5'6 1/2" and the mare is somewhere around 16 hands. I haven't measured her in a while, and she has her tall days and her short days.
I forgot where I was going with that, so I'll just stop... /infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif I'm having a very blonde day today.

I am 4'11" and at 43 I am not going to get any taller. My QH is 15.1 and is not your typical stocky QH. I like having a horse I can get my leg around, expecially for those sideways spooks! We do a lot of trail riding, and at our height we don't have to worry about getting wacked by tree branches. /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

5'7" and 15.2 For the longest time I thought he was 16 hands till I started riding with a trainer my last junior year. He laughed at me and told me to go measure him... Funny how much bigger the jumps look now that I know how little he is. He doesn't now, though - as far as he's concerned, he's got to be at least 18 hands! /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I am 6' and most people think I'm 6'2"....just a long girl, and my horse is only 16 hands. I think he may have grown a bit since the last time I measured, and he is starting to fill out. Here he is this summer (5 year old TB). I suppose I'd look much better on a bigger horse, but I don't really want a giant horse.

5'1" (on a tall day /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif ) and my mare is just about 15.3. My short legs don't come all that far down her rather large, round barrel. I'm with Colin, I love smaller horses!

I am 5'1" and Phyllis is 16.1 and lanky. Perturbed is barely 15 hands. I am comfortable on most horses, except the bigger warmbloods - I can't get my legs around them.

At least you get to ride ponies, I never did! /infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif I do believe I started out on a very large large pony, then jumped from him to a 16.2 hand thing that was built like a WB. People complained because I was riding something bigger than they were, but I was only..hmm...9 maybe?

I'm 5'2" and half! Don't forget the half!!! /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Cosmo is around 16 hands. I never sticked him, and since he's a jumper it doesn't really matter. He's the type of horse that everyone thinks is really big until they walk up next to him, then he seems little. But he thinks he's huge! Even makes faces at any horses bigger than he. It's pretty funny!

Mark is 16'2 but like a tank (is that a Draft horse?)
Phinny is 17.2 and built like a fish
April was 16.2 and looked like an elephant from behind...

You're right! Cosmo DOES look big from a distance...and then you get next to him and he really isn't! That is funny that you said that because that happened to me one day!
Let's see...I am 5'8" and my fave horse is 17.3hh (roughly...his measurement card is WAY off..long story...ask Snidgie..the grey horse?? HUGE??). So anyways, I ride anything and everything and occasionally jump on an unruly pony but generally most of the horses I ride are at least 15.2hh.

"I love to get home after a long day and go to sleep late. I love to wake up before the sun. I love to spend the day in the sun, with it's rays warming my skin. I love the mist of the cold hose. I love not being able to feel my fingers and toes in the winter. I love to stand on the hill, letting a friend graze in a warm wind. I love the smell of that wonderful place...I live to ride, and I ride to live."

5'1 and he's 17 hands. But he's not really wide so I don't look too small. However, now that he is in KY he's getting fatter. Could be bad for me /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I'm 5'5" and Lily is 14.3 (and maybe still growing). She actually fits me well as I have fairly short legs and she has a fairly round shape (think 55 gal drum)!
