Bumpkin
Apr. 2, 2001, 08:16 AM
Bumpkin was my A/O Hunter mare.
Her show name was Pantomime. (Pan Man x Miss Fallacy)

OTTB who was a fabulous jumper and went on to do well in Three Day Events with the juniour I leased her to.

She was almost pony sized and got the name Bumpkin from the Hobbit series where there were three ponies, Bumpkin, Lumpkin and I cannot recall the last ponies name. Sassy Tail or something??? /infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

So in honour of a mare that was my best friend and companion, I took her name. /infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Apr. 2, 2001, 08:19 AM
Louise is my middle name. Creative, huh?

OnceAThief
Apr. 2, 2001, 08:23 AM
My first horses were Andy's Delight, Mr Ebony's Delight, and Just Delighted - the first two were by dumb luck, but I named the third. Hey, why fight the trend?

And, I've been batting around the name Delighted Farms if/when I get a barn. That, and there are tons of Annes online already, so another one would just be confusing. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

hoopoe
Apr. 2, 2001, 11:46 AM
Hoopoe is a bird of Europe, Africa and Asia. It is my most desired to see, so I am planning a trip next year to Aachen and then to do some bird watching. After I find the Hoopoe I will choose a new bird. Very likely something in Ecuador.

Apr. 2, 2001, 12:29 PM
Fleetie is the name my non-horsey husband calls one of the schoolies where I ride. He is totally taken with her and always brings her little goodies. He even "named" his new car "Fleet." When I get a horse of my own I likely change screennames.

Cactuskate
Apr. 2, 2001, 01:43 PM
When I moved from Oregon many years ago, to Tucson, AZ my bestest friend in the whole world gave me the nickname Cactus Kate. She then became Joan of the Coast as she lived in Coos Bay, OR.

Even having moved to Nashville, Atlanta and then back to the desert. It has stuck.

Ghazzu
Apr. 2, 2001, 02:28 PM
A Ghazzu is a Bedouin mounted raid (frequently for the purpose of stealing horses).

Since I raise Arabs and do the hunter/dressage/sporthorse divisions on the Arab circuit with them, it seemed appropriate here on the COTH board.

(I was a TB racehorse and h/j groom in a former lifetime).

And yes, my Arabs actually foxhunt on occasion.

Apr. 2, 2001, 03:03 PM
Mine is my nickname at the barn. My name is Dina but my coach could never remember that. She called me every name beginning with D except for Dina. Eventually she got frustrated and decided to just call me "Miss D." It stuck, and is shortened to D by now.

Islander
Apr. 2, 2001, 03:03 PM
Islander is my large junior hunter's show name. He is the horse that is going to get me to Indoors, so I took his name, so everyone can know of him /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif And if I could figure out how to post pics, I would do that too /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

RolexH
Apr. 2, 2001, 03:06 PM
Rolex is my beloved Jack Russell. The "H" stands for my fiance's last name... Hawk. He bought me Rolex so I appropriatly named Rolex after his father. Rolex Hawk. (actually Rolex Sidney Hawk) /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

CdnRider
Apr. 2, 2001, 03:07 PM
As for my online name, I'm starting to not like it. I used to go by Sam as BossHoss and Tin know. But thats when I came online I was riding a horse named Sam. Of course I haven't ridden Sam for 3 years now and I have no idea where he is so I thought when I came here I would change it to something that doesn't have anything to do with any horse I've ridden. Now I'm starting to regret it. CdnRider is so general. Maybe I should just revert back to Sam (or CanSam I sometimes use...) I'll have to sleep on it. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Albion
Apr. 2, 2001, 03:12 PM
Albion is one of the Celtic words for England ... at some point during high school, it got attached to me as a nickname. I'm still not quite sure how, but I almost got it tattooed under my Uffington chalk horse-inspired tattoo. I went with some Latin, instead. /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif [yes, I am a big classics geek!]

Well my pony's barn name is "Wonder" and is nicknamed as usually referred to as the "wonderpony" because she can do just about anything and can win or pin very well in almost any company. She's a really special mare and I love her a lot, hence the name "luvmywonderpony" /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.

Mad Mission
Apr. 2, 2001, 03:54 PM
I 'stole' my username from a song by Patty Griffin- who I love. The song is really most likly a love song but it reminds me more of how psychotic my horse life is. Basically, to me horses are my 'mad mission' in life, so I took the name here.

"It's a mad Mission, under difficult conditions, not everybody makes it to the loving cup, it's a mad mission, but I got the ambition, mad mad mission, sign me up". There's more of course but you get the idea.

Make any sense? /infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

leadline
Apr. 2, 2001, 03:58 PM
Well let me see. I have used it for years. Not sure why, but I guess I would like to think of myself as a leader (HA) as opposed to being lead. Not really I JUST PLAIN MADE IT UP.

A lot of people think I am a kid because of the name .....Let'em keep thinking it, it is ok with me. /infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Fred
Apr. 2, 2001, 04:01 PM
is the barn name of my most precious horse. It's HIS name because I love Fred Astaire, and when he (the horse) was born,he was so tall, leggy, elegant and light on his feet... it was his name from minute one!. Plus, I'm so absent-minded, I had to give myself a name I'd remember! /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I was originally Mandy on the other board after my recently departed--he was still with me at the time.

When I came here, I couldn't use his name, so I used Jaime Lynn (my daughter), and then after telling a story about embarassing horse show moments, I was renamed by other BB'ers as such.

My new screen name is the name of the mare that I rode in the Childrens Jumpers; she's also the mom of the baby I ride.
She had to be put down last April after a nasty colic /infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif , so I decided to change my SN to name myself after her.

Checkers324
Apr. 2, 2001, 05:51 PM
Checkers is the name of the pony I was riding at the time when I signed up, and "324" is the date of my very first riding lesson (minus the year): March 24th. I don't ride Checkers anymore, though, so I might change my username to something else eventually. I'll have to think about that!

Apr. 2, 2001, 08:50 PM
How very cool! I had to do some serious soul searching (ha!) when deciding on my tattoo - I love the original horse, but it's so ... primative (obviously!) that I wasn't sure I wanted it my body for the rest of my life. So I drew my own pony & basically changed the head. I'm very fond of him! (thank goodness!)

I'm sure that's more than you wanted to know, but I attached a picture of it, right after I got it. The Latin means "Dust and Shadow"

DMK
Apr. 5, 2001, 11:33 AM
Gee... wonder what my name is? Oh yea, my initials, as opposed to my monogram, which might be more appropriate given that I am in monogrammatically obsessed h/j land.

But no, I really hate dKm, to the point that my chaps have DMK on them and I even switched to DMK on some of my newer collars. Like I care what the monogram police think... wait... what's that large lurking figure over my shoulder? I didn't mean it, I swear it, I promise I'll cha...WHACK THUMP CLOMP WHAMMO SMACKAROO..

Of course my excuse is that my first name is really my middle name.

Chaser
Apr. 6, 2001, 09:13 AM
I chose Chaser for two reasons.

I used to go sailing with a friend and there was a boat kept at the moorings called "Elegant Chaser" which I thought was a great name. It was a lovely yacht too. Also, my gelding is an ex-racehorse and he's been steeplechasing.

I'm not brave enough to ride in a steeplechase race myself though, so perhaps it's a bit of a cheat, but hey I don't call myself "Elegant" which really would be a joke!

Apr. 6, 2001, 09:20 AM
My initials are SQW, and I make sure they don't stick the W in the middle of any of my monnograms either!!!

DMK
Apr. 6, 2001, 09:50 AM
Oh, now I am just DYING to know what the Q is for...

Although, my first thoughts were a middle name, single person that I am, but I bet it's your maiden name, right? Rats, not nearly as entertaining as a middle name... Quilla... Quanda? Quiscilla? Quanet? As you can see, I am not very motivated today...

Canter, funny you should mention the DMZ... as far as BillGatesRuleroftheUniverse and his merry band of spellcheck cohorts are concerned, DMK should be DMZ... And of course the many who have seen me in action tend to agree...

My brother gave me my username - he was trying to get me to stop lurking and decided to create a username for me, except that when he went to use our old horse's name, he found it was taken, so had to think fast.

Apparently the night before he had been watching one of those Richard Attenborough nature programs, and it happend to be about puffins. I guess it just popped into his mind when filling out the COTH form.

and voila! here I am /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I went from Sabra Quinn Warden, to Sabra Quinn Wolf. I married him so that I wouldn't have to change my monnogramming!!!!!!

Rumours Follow is the name of my adult hunter. /infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

I thought about doing my initals, but they are SAD. My parents were so mean to me. I didnt want everyone to think I was upset so I nixed that one. Then I thought about using my AOL name which is ROMEOROCKS. I've had it for like 7 years, since I first got my old horse Romeo, but I felt like I was doing an injustice to my precious. So Rumours Follow it was. I did think a few times about changing it to QueenRambler though /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

The pink horse is my red roan QH. When I first got her we all decided she was pink but then she jumped out of her paddock and someone driving by called the barn to say there was a pink horse in the driveway. Then we knew for sure.

And then, of course, when I was playing with a picture of her on photoshop and picked out a piece of her to see what the color was - it was pretty pink!!!

Merry

"Merry" is the name of my little black schnauzer. She's been my faithful companion for 9 years. She's not much of a horsey dog, but she's just the cutest, most devoted little dog. Geez, can you tell I don't have any children?

My first name is Cindy. That'd be a pretty boring screen name, so I borrowed Merry's. She said it was okay. /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

sigh - if you don't watch it well have to change your screen name.

Merry, I had a Schnauzer when I was MUCH younger (12 to be exact). It was the "more common" color.

$10 says you can guess it's name

and in case you haven't guessed, it is the result of my research on all you guys.

My own screen name is the nickname my mom called me when I was little. It is the Russian pronounciation of my real name. (Which, coincidentally, is the shortening of a much longer Russian name--Anastasia.)

Aclamado

My horse's name!

In spanish, I believe it is the past participle of acclaim.

I think!

It's the name he came with, I don't like it a ton, if anyone has a good show name for a big white horse let me know /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Linny
May. 2, 2002, 07:32 PM
I changed my screen name but posted on this thread under my old name. Infopop changed my name on the post but the body of the post talks about my old name "Fleetie"

Linny is the name of my old (leased) horse. He remains my favorite horse of all time. I changed my screen name after stopping out to the barn to visit him.

I was a spoiled teenager. My trainer at the time used to tell me I was spoiled sweet, not rotten, though I am sure there are some who would beg to differ. Anyway, thinking about it makes me think of all the fun I used to have showing with that trainer and all his other clients, with my Mom grooming. Ah, those were the days.
