It seems there are seat availabilities on my Air Canada points - i.e. I can fly in gratis. Think a gate-crashing may be in order. /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

How far is Mosby's from Dulles, BTW?

Flashy Gray
Jan. 11, 2002, 03:09 PM
Heidi, as you know from my Max thread I am not really in the mood to post but your note caught my eye.

I am totally serious, you let us know if you are really going to head down this way (can you bring the family, too?) and I will pick you up at Dulles myself. Or get in a fight w/ETBW over who gets to pick you up! /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

It's a hop, skip and jump (actually about a 20 minute drive) from Dulles to M'burg. Let us know!

Heidi
Jan. 11, 2002, 03:21 PM
Aww, Flashy Gray, that's so kind of you to offer.

I'm going to email Duffy and see whether I can pyjama party at her house and keep her up until 3:00am drinking lovely reds. /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

No, no, no, I'm trying to escape from the brood - two weeks of prolonged exposure to the kids and Hans over Christmas has me in need of a Mommy-break.

I just need to check out the size of the planes scheduled between Toronto and Washington - I don't cope well with prop planes and need a lot of steel around me when I fly.

Sounds like great fun, though, eh? I'll bring the Tim Horton's donuts! /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Duffy can take you home with her but I will pick you up and take you along to Cavallo, Tack Box, Tack Exchange, Mosby's, Etc!!!

My house is so close and I have the wonderous spare bedroom never despoiled by Winglet!!!!

Duffy can come stay, too. Oh, the ultimate joy! Just think of the naughtyness we can come up with /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I can collect you from Dulles and we can be at Mosbys' within 30 minutes (okay, I speed). Just ask Hobson or N2Jumpers, they will vouch for me!

Duffy lives two hours away. She will have to put her best efforts into just arriving! Go Dog Go is here, Kennett Square, Inverness, Elghund, Kryswyn, Moesha, Fairweather, Miniwelsh, ALL OF US!!!!!!

Trixie, are you paying attention? Photo opportunities beneath the COTH Sign are possible!!!!

Do say you will come, I can add you to my RSVP for the Albemarle Stud Stallion Showing on Sunday the 20th! /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

At this point, it seems I can get a circuitous flight which lands at Dulles at 3:00pmish on Friday, leaving Dulles either in the afternoon or early evening on Sunday; leaving much time to shop at hyperinflated prices for the new pony and ungrateful daughter. Did I mention, BTW, that the pitiful Canadian $$ is equivalent to about $.60 US? What time do the stallions strut their stuff on Sunday, Wingsy? You know how I feel about a good-looking stallion. /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Two hours away, eh? Duffy neglected to mention that detail...Virginia's, what, two city blocks long, isn't it? /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I'm going to book something while availabilites remain -- and needless to say look uberly-forward to meeting all of you. Heidi infiltrates the southern belles, how cool is that?

Wingsy, I'll email you any pertinent flight details.

What I want to know - do you think the Urchinator will show his face at Mosby's if I venture across borders, stifling my terrible fear of flying, on hold for endless hours with Air Canada, just to meet He, Who Is The Urchin? /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I'm in for Friday night!!! I can be there by 6:30ish. Of course I expect Wingsie will bring you by Horse Country on Saturday, if only to buy her that copy of COPPER'S CHANCE that showed up last week as a 'hospitality gift'. Or perhaps Mr. Wings will buy it to make up for Xmas? /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Either way, I will be at MOSBY'S! Pictures of Heidi & Go-Dog-Go will be MOST entertaining. Heidi, did we mention that GDG is in the Vertically Blessed Clique? /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Beezer has recently decided he would rather be king of his own castle than a prince in Tinker's palace. This is NOT permitted by Queen Kryswyn! Therefore, cute as he is, as loving as he is, Mordred, I mean Beezer /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif is looking for a new kingdom and roost to rule.

He's a rough coat, so he'd do very well north of the border! And you can race him at the Jack Russell Terrier Club of Canada events! He's very fast, and if I kept him, I'd definately race him in the exhibition races.

WIngsy, I've lost your home email addy but have sent the flight info. to your office email addy. My return flight to Toronto, BTW, leaves Dulles at 7:05pm - imagine I should be at the airport 5:30ish.

I assume I'll be staying with the lovely Ms. Duffy Friday and/or Saturday night.

KS - yes! Shall bring pictures of animals, two and four-legged. Will I recognize you, BTW, by the glow of your tiara, like a beacon of light emanating from a lighthouse, leading one to safety? /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Creseida and Kryswyn, I'm sure Wingsy and I will be there by 5:30 as my plane lands at 2:30pm. Given my fear of flying, and my fear antidote (imbibing many vodka/tonics), I may have a head start on the cocktails. /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Wingsy, just look for a little Asian woman staggering off the plane, shouting, "I love you all!" to the flight crew.

Kryswyn, the stallion showing is at Albemarle and is from 2-4. Breezymeadow is coming, too and I RSVP'd for 4 people myself (hoping three others will come along!)

Oh boy, time to make nametags!

In light of the security issues at the airports these days, you might want to tone down any scene you're planning to make in the terminal a teensy bit /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif I can see it now... Duffy receives a frantic garbled call on her cell phone as we sit around Mosby's wondering juswhurthehel are Wings & Heidi. Then we all pile into our cars trying to find the Fairfax jail (oh, wait - Kennett Square will know!) to bail you out.

GoDogGo: "We're here to bail out two women arrested at Dulles for causing a scene?"
Officer "Name?"
GoDogGo: "Alex"
Officer: <sigh> "Your friends name?"
GDG: "Wings and Heidi"
Officer: "We don't have any Heidi Wingsand here"
GDG: "No, it's really Everythingbutwings, and Heidi, I'm not sure what Heidi's last name is. <turns to CoTH crowd> Hey, anybody know Heidi's last name?" "Are you certain Heidi's her FIRST name GDG?" "Where's Duffy? She'll know." "She's in the parking lot trying to explain her speeding violation to the cute officer who followed us here?"
GDG: "We're really not sure of their names but they're our friends, really."
Officer: "Right, you're this close <holds thumb & index finger 1" apart> I can tell..."

GDG: Uh, guns. Their shotguns I'm a DOG trainer and need the to shoot the birds the dogs sometimes point or need to retrieve!
Officer: What are all those electric devices Mr. GDG?
GDG: Their training collars for the damm dogs you idiot!

GDG: Because their down here to be TRAINED you jack a@@
IO: Sir watch your language please.
GDG: Opps, sh*t didn't mean to swear.
IO: You spend every winter in VA?
GDG: NO just last and now this. Before that I was in SC and TX.
IO: So you're on the run.
GDG: NO!
IO: Do you play basketball?

The rest of the transcript is inaudible. Much noise, swearing and the sound of thing breaking can be heard.

COTH crew: Hey GDG where were you?
GDG: Uh, no where, let's go, hurry.
COTH crew: To Mosbys we go then.
GDG: Can we take some back roads please?

News that night: The airport was closed down today for some time when an oversize man went berserk. Officers were interrogating the man when he lost control and destroyed the security area. Things were further complicated by a large, unruly group of bizarre women. All suspects left together and headed west. They're considered to be armed and very dangerous.

You see, I was thinking of driving up to Timonium for the Horse World Expo, and had plans on dumping the son...I mean, allowing the son to spend the night with his best friend already.

Mr. SFVA happens to have to work Friday night (poor guy..his turn on payroll, they rotate). Since Mr. SFVA is too cute, I prefer to keep him hidden /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif . He will also be happy that I'll be home at night as opposed to spending the night somewhere in Timonium.

So, I'm thinking that Mosby's sounds like more fun than Horse World Expo. I do want to go to the Expo because I need to try on all the different brands of protective vests....I do believe that my birthday pressie will be one of those and I must give exact specifications to Mr. SFVA to get the correct one.

From the second Marshall exit, take Freestate Rd away from town, right on 647, twisty windy driveway up the mountain (on the left) Paul Kramer lived up the hill farther than Ms. King.

Kramer galloped his 'chasers on the trails to keep them fit (when he wasn't flying his plane out of his pasture!) He is the guy that had Cookin and Lookin in the early-mid eighties.

If you are coming from Chantilly, come into town and turn right at the traffic light (the only one!), straight ahead is Mosby's but you need to bear to the right downhill and then turn left uphill and make a right into Mosby's.

From Rt 66 (I come this way) take the exit for Great Meadow and The Plains. Go right and continue a mile or so into The Plains, turn right onto Rt 55 for a block, then left at the gas station. This road takes you past Halfway Farm and brings you out onto Rt 50 in Middleburg at the Chronicle of the Horse. (This is a beautiful drive in the daylight but is a bit windy. You will go over train tracks immediately leaving The Plains and, when you pass Piedmont Vineyard on the left you are getting close to M'burg. Pass the VA Tech MARE Center on the right and you are almost there) Turn right on Rt 50, go to the traffic light and turn left. Straight ahead is Mosby's.

Okay - this morning spoke with Debbie @ Albemarle at length & here's the story:

First of all, they sent out invitations per whatever "breeding" lists they could get their hands on. However, EVERYONE AND ANYONE IS WELCOME TO ATTEND - NO RSVP REQUIRED. This is usually the norm everywhere. I have yet to see a stud farm turn away visitors. This is their bread-and-butter.

With that in mind, I am definitely attending, & as I live in Culpeper about a stone's throw from Route 29, would be willing to drive whomever is interested. I can fit 4 ample BB'ers (or 5 if they're not built like me - lol) - or even 6 if 2 don't mind traveling like cargo!!! Kryswyn or Clive's Mom - you & any others are more than welcome to drive over here, leave your vehicles at the old homestead, & come with me.

The only prerequisite I have is that anyone stepping foot on the property must constantly repeat two mantras: 1) "This is a work in progress", & 2) "They really meant to take down their Christmas decorations earlier. . . "

Also - my next-door neighbors stand Thoroughbred, Clydesdale, & "Georgian Grande" (Percheron/Saddlebred cross) stallions. If anyone coming to Albemarle with me would be interested, I would give them a call & ask if we could stop by. While the TB & Perch/SaddBd Cross aren't my style, their Clydesdale stallion is really something.

Let me know & we can adjust our time schedule accordingly.

He isn't a badlooking guy.

He's a black & white tobiano, and apparently - although I have no first-hand knowledge of this - this particular cross is popular for foxhunting. Now this is what my neighbors, who stand this stallion, told me - so don't JUMP on me, guys, if this is not so!! They advertised him in last year's COTH Stallion issue (GarrDell Farm/Stallion Name: "Bonfire"), but didn't do so this year I noticed.

Like I mentioned above, he isn't my style; but their black Clydesdale stallion definitely deserves a look for anyone interested in that type of cross. He's very nice.

Since I'd like to have as much done as possible before Mr. Breezymeadow takes over for me when he gets home from work + it would be nice to scrape off at least some EAU DE BARN off myself before trekking to Middleburg???

While I'm not a complete weather-wimp, if it's too ugly I will definitely prefer to stay home. I'm a lousy and fearful flier at the best of times - this weather report is bumming me out.

I'm entertaining visions of turbulence and snow squalls, held captive by a snowstorm in VA (though I'm sure it's a lovely state) to return home to a Sumo who's shrunk to but a mere shadow of his former zaftig self. Hans is a great daddy but could not cope with feeding/cleaning/amusing the children for more than 2.5 days. You may know this shortcut, but I'm posting it anyway. I used to work up in Baltimore and had to find creative ways to get home on Friday nights when the beltway is just awful.

Take Rt. 15 South all the way from Baltimore, thru Leesburg and all the way to Rt. 50, then take a RIGHT at Rt. 50 at Gilbert's Corner - that goes straight into M'burg. You'll miss the annoying beltway traffic, and it really is a straight shot south. You'll be surprised how fast the traffic moves on Rt.15 as well (at least I was surprised - it was my favorite way home).

Not that I would COMPLAIN or anything.

Vet just left a little while ago after examining my mare, who although has a 2/16 due date, is showing imminent signs of wanting to rid herself of her motherly burden.

Noticed a little milk leak last night, as well as the usual conformation changes pertaining to delivery. Vet comfirmed that either conception dates are awry (I bought this mare already in foal), or she will be quite early - as in between tonight & the next 2 weeks!!!!

I am now on "official" foal watch, & will have to play it by ear. As wonderful as Mr. Breezymeadow is with the horses, it would definitely not be fair for me to go out galavanting & leave him with this type of situation.

While I might not make Mosby's (need to keep a clear unalcohol-tinted head!), may still be able to pull off Sunday, so long as nothing untoward happens Saturday night.

Will try to remember to have my camera around the barn in order to post pics of the new arrival. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Earth, being the operative word here.

I have skin of Teflon, warm long undies, insulated moon boots, a toque. A little cold, 3 feet of snow, temperatures below -20 is nothing to this brave Canadian stoic. /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif The weather as it affects turbulence, however, is a different story.

If the blessed event does occur - will be glad to notify all so you can have a celebratory round! At the very least, please think of me wrapped up sitting on a bale of hay with a hot toddy while you all are living it up with Heidi! /infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

So Heidi,

you just implied you had phenomenal check signing skills...so does that mean you are the official payer of mass amounts of food and alcohol tonight....lol!! when you say that in the states ( as in USA) it means that you want to pay for the entire thing by yourself....

See ya tonight!!

I'd be quite happy to sign the VISA receipt tonight -- Kennett Square. /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

To think, I'll be in your fair land in, oh, about 5 hours. Pray for me, y'all!

I am busy searching for the follow up topics, the aftermath of Heidi and G-d-G at Mosbys along with Albemarle Stud!

You make it sound so, oh, placental. /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Methinks you should venture up for a few days to Toronto to attend the RAWF. Think of the shopping, the horse shows, fresh maple syrup, the Mounties, the butter sculpture, all the poutine you can eat.
