We know that the early, warm, wet spring produced early, large blooms of weeds, flies, ticks, etc.

It seems it also produced an earlyl large bloom of rodents. And now an exceptional number of Copperheads.

The barn staff reports killing a half dozen in one field with the skidsteer while fixing a broken fence. They saw several more.

Just more joys of country living. :(

Personally I worry about the deer. I know some here hate them, but this year has been both great for them and bad for them - lots of feed, lots of ticks to make them sick, lots of survival in the offspring means more deer means more predators and you know the population will crash so that means I'll be staying up nights to shoot coyote, or have to worry about the cats and the chickens and our other small stock. No copperheads . . . yet.
