We've seen the thread of favorite user names but some folks have names that I just don't get. Brylntrp was one but now "I got it". Here's another I don't get...
Hoopoe? What in the world?
What about everyone else...is there a username out there that someone has that you'd just looooooove to hear the story/meaning behind it?

Bumpkin
Jan. 27, 2002, 08:17 PM
Bumpkin is a Pony from the Hobbit /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Bumpkin:
One of the ponies belonging to Merry. Bumpkin was named such during the hobbits stay with Tom Bombadil. When the Prancing Pony Inn was raided, the ponies fled to Bombadil, who later sent them to Butterbur.
If You Look At My Profile
You will see me riding the real "BUMPKIN"
Her show name was Pantomine and her racing name was Fallacy's Hope (Pan Man x Miss Fallacy).
I prob should change my name to "Elliot" since he is my replacement for Bumpkin after pining for her for 20 years...but I have been Bumpkin on here forever it seems.
Here is part of the Poem in the Hobbit...
Tom Bombadil's songs
Hey! now! Come hoy now! Whither do you wander?
Up, down, near or far, here, there or yonder?
Sharp-ears, Wise-nose, Swish-tail and Bumpkin,
White-socks my little lad, and old Fatty Lumpkin?

Cinnabar was horse #1, who I got when I was 12. He was very character building, and I learned a hugenormous amount from him. What wouldn't he do?! I PC'd him, foxhunted, evented, did dressage, hooted around the countryside...we even won a costume class with me dressed as Scarlet O'Hara (hoop and all!) and him in a tux (thanks grandma!) and tophat (little moustache too).

On that same line... sort of... I board at Phyllis Dawson's barn (Windchase) and she has a stallion, Brandenburg's Windstar. She names all the foals something-star or star-somthing. Last year there was a foal born with a white nose with a little white line above it... I swear it looks like a little guitar on his nose. I (faithful Bowie fan) suggested the name Ziggy Stardust - I thought it was PERFECT because of the 'Ziggy played guitar' SHE didn't like it though and named him Star Surprise. I still call him Ziggy though!!!

Snidgie5
Jan. 29, 2002, 08:22 PM
Mine was simply the screen name I chose for AIM. But it came from those little tootsie rolls. They are called midgees. Well when I was younger one of my friends made up her own silly language sort of like pig latin. The way it worked was to drop the first letter from a word and add the letters "S" "n". My real name, Stacie, would have been Snacie. Midgees became Snidgees. Because my name is spelled with an IE at the end I changed it to snidgie. And I am a big fan of tootsie rolls... The five has absolutely no significance. AOL said to have a number in my SN so I picked five. I have no idea why. It just seemed right...

"PrettyFilly" started way back when, 3 years ago, I got my mare. She was coming 4 that year, but was actually 3 when I got her, so literally my first "filly". Plus she was pretty...Easy enough, PrettyFilly was her name when she was good, Kibbles 'N' Bits when she wasn't so good. /infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif But, the day that I made my COTH name she'd been good, so I took PF rather than KNB. /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif We recently sold her, so when I get my new horse I may rename myself. But since I do call my Mom's mare "PrettyFilly" too, it works. That's why my signature says "sister of a PF". Allie's my sister. /infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Daydream Believer
Aug. 26, 2002, 04:39 PM
When we all uncloaked on the eventing board I told this once kind of briefly, but I don't mind doing so again. I like Daydream Believer because I've always been a daydreamer with a vivid imagination and always wanted to go to the Olympics someday. LOL /infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif I know now that my chances of doing that are less than my chances of getting stuck by lightning but it doesn't hurt to imagine it I guess! I also really like the old Monkee's song by that name...so I took it and it fits me.

olympicprincess
Aug. 26, 2002, 05:59 PM
When I started frequently posting on the 'Net the 2000 Olympics were going on and I loved every minute of them!
My cousin often refers to me as "the princess" whenever he sees me. (he thinks my life is similair to royalty- HA! yea, right, royalty cleans stalls everyday! /infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif )
One day when signing on, it popped in my head.
I keep thinking about changing it, esp. when I get those emails that say "what are you, some Olympic trainer/rider/aspiring Olympian?". I often reply "yes". /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Mine .. well...that's my name.
Well not REALLY, but pretty much, it comes from a knock knock joke, I soon was nicknamed Mylenimoo ( My name is Mylene), and then my trainer started calling me Moo when I was 15, and it stuck. Now hardly anyone calls me by my real name. Moo it is!

My name is an abbreviated version of an anagram of my last name. It was my nickname in high school. The full anagram - "Shmontop" - sounds perverted to a lot of people. /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif So it was shortened to Shmon.

Miss Perfect
Aug. 27, 2002, 09:09 AM
The name says it all. What can I say?
Just kidding - Miss Perfect is the registered name of an older OTTB broodmare/lesson horse that I almost bought. She was the sweetest thing, and I loved her name.
I bought my current gelding on July 4th, so I named him Patriot (yawn - how common, huh?).

Bumpkin is such a great name!!!
My name has a rather long story. In the 90's (94-98) I had a group of cyber friends very much like the ones I have here, except it was through a radio station REVOLUTION RADIO Rev 105 in Minneapolis. It was THE coolest radio station...besides Radio K that is. My name was Ivy, because I'm kind of like a plant and I used to like the old garage band the Cramps and their baseplayer is poison ivy..... and anyway, we used to chat on line every day after lunch (while at work of course!) We decided to take the plunge and meet each other in person one night. My husband was VERY busy with school, so I went alone (hey, it was Minnapolis!) This is wierd for me, because I'm kind of shy. SO, I met these folks and we became fast friends. They had a big party and I brought the Mr. He was SO nervous, because he didn't chat with them, didn' know them, etc. etc. but they were all SO cool, we all got along great. At this party, we were having a discussion on the differences between Maryland and Minnesota. One is kitty corner v. catty corner (they say kitty corner LOL) Another was that old kid's game, duck duck GOOSE, well they say duck, duck GREY DUCK, which of course we Marylanders find awfully silly (unlike goose) so the argument went on and on, and next thing you know, the MR. was chatting everyday with the moniker GOOSE. We have always loved geese, so we decided where ever we live would be called GOOSEWOOD, because we like the woods too. So, my name is B-Boosewood as in Betsy in Goosewood. Got it?? /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Aug. 27, 2002, 06:42 PM
'Stasha' was the nickname my mom gave me when I was little--she wanted to name me Anastasia. Dad said, "Why saddle a little girl with a name she's gonna hate?" So they shortened and Americanized it to 'Stacy' (which I hated anyway).
I think 'Stasha' is pretty cool. My other nickname in real life is Boomer. That one is a looooooong story...

Bumpkin
Bumpkin is a Pony from the Hobbit
