View Full Version : FOAL WATCH PART II
Hattie
Apr. 15, 2000, 07:53 PM
Hey guys, I hope you don't mind that I am starting a new thread for Jane's foal pool thread. It was starting to take too long to get through those 3 pages. While we are waiting for the next foal could everyone that has been posting on this thread describe their breeding programs. I know Jane breeds TBs and TBX for the hunters and is successful in the breeding divisions and Joy (Spfarm) breeds paints for the hunter divisions (and did so before it was popular). And by the way Luckyduck the pictures were great!! Your babies are so cute and quite handsome. Tell us your plans.

Anne - what are your plans going to be with Hattie? Are you thinking about purchasing anymore mares in the future for breeding? I'm telling ya, once those babies start arriving, you're going to want more and more each year!
To the others that might not know my program, it's simply this: Produce a quality athlete crossing the best of the APHA and TB. Color is just the icing on the cake! I have been very pleased with the cross and I have found the market, both H/J and APHA, very receptive of the idea.

Poor Hattie is going back to work when she's done with the mom thing! I just need a break from showing because I figured out how much I've spent doing it the past 2 years (this happens when your in your 40's and realize college and retirement aren't too far away). I have Emy (Hattie's mom) and NO MORE broodmares. But who knows what I'll be thinking next year (or even next week!!!). The stud fees alone are enough to kill ya!! It was certainly a hard decision to decide on one. I'm a TB person but this warmblood cross is certainly wonderful to ride when your a mistake prone adult!!

I can't agree with you more about the breeding expenses. Of course, showing expenses are enough to drain you dry too! Hope to have a stallion within the next year or so and that should cut expenses dramatically. I'm also fortunate that most of the babies are sold before their first winter here, so that helps alot too.
Tell me, is the paint hunter very popular in the east? You don't see too many hunter paints out here yet, but I think I've got them looking. Most of the babies go to Colorado and on down to Texas.
BTW...working on a website and hope to have it up and running before the first foal arrives, so that I can post photos more quickly of the big events!

Congrats to Jane and everyone so far! How exciting - cannot wait to see more photos and hear more info!
I will be trying to get my mare "in foal" to Don Alfredo next week!! We took this year off and it is great to hear about everyones new foals this year!

Apr. 15, 2000, 11:32 PM
Hey Justbay are you breeding for hunters or dressage. Just looked up Don Alfredo in my always close to the computer COTH stallion issue. He's a good looking guy! I'm posting so late because I'm up trying to finish a project at work that's due.

Thanks hattie for the compliments. I breed, buy, train, show sell for the hunter ring. I have just started incorporating some WB blood into my TB mares. The first one I started with was WB/TB cross, with TB, that would make it a 3/4 or 7/8 TB.

congradulations to everyone who had their babies. Especially to Jane, I was beginning to wonder if your mare would ever foal!
Love everyone's pics!
At our farm we are awaiting Watch Me's last foal out of the hanoverian intermediate event champion of 99, Geisha. Watch Me, owned by Richard and Margaurite Love is retired after suffering a near death experience from a heart anuerism last year. He is happily munching hay in his paddock and seems content.
For the future, I was lucky enough to purchase a young Watch Me stallion who is just turning 6 and competing and breeding.
We have a hanoverian mare by Garabaldi and a clients TB intermediate event mare in foal for a 2001 baby on the farm. this stallion is BIG, 17+ hands with the biggest bones I've ever seen. We have bred him via CTS to 10 TB mares this season and our mare owners have very generously agreed to share baby pics for our web site when they arrive.
We think because of his size as well as a very quiet, willing temperment his niche as a breeding stallion will be with TB mares.
Performance wise he is most suited to the jumpers. He has a big round jump with very tight forearms and likes a big fence. We are currently competing at training level in eventing and some show jumping. Will probably switch over to the jumpers and maybe combined test in eventing to show off his dressage after the prelim level. I'm not very interested in showing hunters but he is 1/2 brother to Most Wanted so may have potential to produce some hunters. Its all very exciting and exhausting!
Standing the stallion, showing, a full time job and family! Maybe one day my guy will reward all this dedication by actually breaking even financially. LOL! I fimly beleive that a love of horses is almost a sure fire way to be terminally broke and have a dirty house to boot!

LOL Rusti, that's a dirty house but IMMACULATE barn!!!!!
spfarm
Apr. 16, 2000, 07:55 PM
Dittos on the immaculate barn and dirty house! Anne's (Hattie) barn is so clean, it could even pass the white glove test!
Terminally broke...yep, it's also called terminal illness! Have any of you ever tried to get out of horses only to find yourself back deeper than before? Just like cancer. Once it's in your system, it's there to the end.
BTW..no foal yet, just one day past due on the first one. I think she'll go a few more days. She's pretty miserable though.
MsHunter
Apr. 17, 2000, 06:09 AM
May I advise you spfarm, not to say "oh she will go in a few more days", those were my famous last words, only to wait 3 extra weeks, but it was well worth the wait. Supposedly those late ones are colts, mine was, but I haven't proven that theory out yet. This mare is always later.

Hey Jane! Great picture!!! Only one showed up on screen and that was the 12 hour shot. Looks like a big, handsome colt!
BTW - No foal here yet, but I think I'll get the vet out to induce her before I go through all those sleepless nights like you did! She's an old pro at this now, so I'm not too concerned, but it is nice to be there for the "big event". She'll probably foal five minutes after I check on her in the wee hours of the morning.

We've got another 3 weeks to go with Geisha and then 10 more long months for Winstons first babies. It'll probably be the longest year of my life!

Hey, my mare is do today. She is so huge. We thought she was going to have it early but I guess not. I'm really worried about how big she is. She's a maiden mare, so we can't even go by any past pregnancies. Oh well I have been following this thread for awhile and since my mare is due I juts thought i would post on it.

Well the vet said one of my foals should be here by Monday, that one is by Ravallo out of a Donnerhall/Archipel mare and another mare is not far behind her, that foal is by Frohwind out of Begonia by Bonjour. Foals number 3 & 4 are not due for a little longer. One is by Walldorf out of a Ramiro - Cor de la Bryere mare due May 24th and the last one is by Feiner Stern out of a Wendekreis mare. Hope all goes well and I have healthy babies. Good luck to everyone else on healthy babies too!

Hey CSH you have to let me know if your vet is right and the mare foals by Monday!
Hey Jenn! Welcome to the board, and to breeding! Who is your mare in foal to?
And, my experience has shown me that maidens usually go late, hanging on to the last minute! I always have my umbilical cord stuff, enema, and tail wrap near me while waiting!
MsHunter

Also, for those new and doing it themselves, it is handy to have bailing twine to tie the placenta to their tail so they don't hurt themselves by stepping on it.

Hey jane, I bred jane to All the Gold. I'm not doing it myself, I have her at a foaling barn. Maybe you know the woman her name is Laurie Diamal. She is so sweet and she great with the mares. It's right down the road from George Morris. I went to see her today and Laurie did a milk test on her and she is finally in the blue so she thinks in the next couple days. I said you wait she is going to hold out for Easter. I'm still not sure on a name, and ideas?

Please, get pictures up ASAP! What is the dams name? IS this GEnerous Janes?
Janeneon
Apr. 20, 2000, 10:02 AM
Jane, yup the dam is Generous Jane. When I stopped doing the eq on her last year I really didn't want to sell her. So I talked it over with my parents and they said it was ok for me to breed her. I have always loved All the Gold, so it just happened. So any ideas on a name?? I'll get pictures up as soon as she has it, should be any day now, keep your fingers crossed.

I will be watching the board to see when yours foals! Mine, well, to say he is difficult is the understatement of the century. I am thoroughly exhausted from this little less than 1 wk old stud colt.
He bucks, he kicks, he runs, he could care less about being near Mom, and he is just plain TROUBLE! WOW is he wearing me out!
I hope the next one is a little less lively than this one<G>!

Apr. 20, 2000, 08:47 PM
Sounds like he thinks he is pretty special, Jane.
Just think if you wanted him to stay a stallion prospect...
I must say, it has to take a special person to keep one a stallion. I've kept all my "geldings" until they were a year and WOW, when they didn't have all that testosterone running thru- my life got so much easier ( and my body looks less abused too!)
Only one week old, must be fun to watch for now!

Speaking of keeping stallions - anyone have experience to share. I am thinking about the Ravallo/Donnerhall foal, I am praying for a filly, but if its a colt....... I was toying with the idea of keeping it intact, I have not kept a stallion before though. Oh by the way I have more news that I am very excited about, I bought a new black filly last night, it looks like I am headed for an all black or black-bay mare herd...

Our filly (almost four weeks old) is very laid-back, just like her daddy (my TB stallion, Lose That). If you keep her and her mom in the foaling stall for a day or two (we just had four days of solid rain, so I found out) she gets a little restless and will run around the stall a little, but other than that shes real mellow!
Missed this thread earlier, so here goes: I stand a TB stallion (named Lose That) and currently have one TB broodmare, breeding mostly for Show Jumping (which is my stallions primary career) and Eventing (secondary career ). In the near future we plan to purchase at least one Irish Draught or Irish Sporthorse broodmare, since the Irish/TBx is also extremely popular in show jumping and eventing. Were really pleased with the filly (looks like shes going to be tall!), shell probably be up for sale but the price will be pretty decent, I sure wouldnt mind keeping her. Lose That is a LOOONG way from retiring, but someday Im going to have to find a horse I can stand to ride after being spoiled by him. And I better start now because it wont be easy!

Jane, nope she hasn't. I slept there last night with her cause we thought maybe she was going to do it but nope. I have to go back to college tonight to drop off my stuff and then I'm going to sleep there again. Maybe tonight she'll do it. She scored a 250 on her milk test yesterday. I'm so tired, that had to be the worst night's sleep I ever had. I really want to be there though. She is now 4 days overdue. Everyone keep your fingers crossed. If she doesn't have this soon it's gonna make my last 2 weeks of school and exams very hard. Ok well I'm gonna go pack, everyone keep praying for me, I need it.

4 days overdue? HAHA! Read above<G>!
I know about the not sleeping part.. Right now, I have a sore back, fighting this foal.
He has had his hiney whacked a few times from that kick out impulse when ticklish.
He is hard to get out, hard to get in, hard to halter, hard to pick up his feet. Just plain hard. But loves the idea of shaking hands with you just fine! Has his front end lightness under control! He is a dear!
I am sleeping now while I can, next one due May 9th!

How come after the //'madness"// we all want more??
MsHunter
Apr. 24, 2000, 05:40 AM
Well, I hope you are right JustBay. But, right now he is an AWFUL mover and would have no choice but to go to the jumper ring if he continues to move this way. I will withhold judgement until he is a little bit older since he is just a week old! He is however strong, athletic and handsome.!
I am tired of all the rain, and it is definitely putting a crimp in my style, and making "Baron" roudier in his house.

Hey Jane! I think both our over due colts have the leg issue under control...mine too is a handful! The filly on the other hand...is already leading like a lady, stands for the kids to pick her feet up and submits rather then bully! The colt is the exact oppisite...though getting better after many "late imprinting" sessions.....did you ever see the imprinting video? About colts that are imprinted late? I've learned a lot about that with htis colt...even though he was imprinted at birth...I shuld have known he was going to be trouble when he decided it was time to get up and his back legs were still in mama! Heres to sore backs and squished toes! /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Hey everyone just wanted to let you all know Jane had her baby at 6 AM this morning. It's a bay filly with a white star and a left back sock. She is very sweet, and very playful, tiring my Jane out already. The birth went pretty well, we had to pull alot though cause her shoulders were so big poor Jane couldn't get them out, she was great with all the pushing though. She has great legs and is very fiesty. She is adorable though. I took tons of pictures, they should be ready in about half an hour, now i just have to find a scanner. Oh well just wanted to let everyone know. I named her Lilly, I'm still trying to decide on a show name though. I was thinking of A Lil' Gold. Any suggestions. The mare's name is Generous jane and the sires is All the Gold and the baby is named Lilly.

Wow! The babies are starting to come now! Congrats to all on those baby arrivals!!! Our first one came at 11:00 last night. A big colt, 42 inches tall, marked very much like the paint hunter stallion, "Red Charisma." Out of a 16.3 TB mare and by a 16.0 overo paint stallion. Not sure if he's going to be a blond chestnut or a shade of palamino. A few days late, but they all seem to be that way this year. Pictures have been taken and will be posted within the next day or so. Next mare to foal is a couple of days out, so I'm off for a good nights' sleep!
Happy foaling!

sp he is adorable and looks very correct. That tendon thing though, I dont' want to lecture you or anyone, but I want to say i had one like that, and they don't always just fix themselves. The vets administer, some type of tetracycline for it, and I casted mine every day for a week, the vet owns a cast, and we wrapped the cast with a polo, and he had to wear it every day for 3 hours. Please, make sure you follow up and dont' get past the time where you can fix it, and you get stuck doing surgery.
spfarm
Apr. 26, 2000, 08:29 PM
I hear what you're saying there Jane. I have another vet who is coming out tomorrow to take a look at it. He is more of a specialist than just the regular vet that I use for routine stuff. It seems like every couple of years I get one of those. I usually have problems the other way with weak flerior tendons. He's such a big baby and probably positioned a little odd for some time, and being past the due date didn't help either!
Finally got a good night sleep. Now the next one is due, but like the first one, I think we will be a little late as well.

Conrats Mary on the new arrival! Seems like those babies are starting to come out of the wood work. A maiden mare too. How's she handling being a new mama? Let's see some pictures soon.
Jane - FWI, the vet came by today and said little "Sparky" is doing great. He's not going to wrap or take any aggressive measures to correct the pastern, since it appears to be coming back quite nicely. Sparky is getting plenty of free exercise now, staying out 24 hours a day. He likes that too! Fiesty little guy!!!

Apr. 28, 2000, 08:43 AM
My filly is the proud daughter of Denny Emerson's Loyal Pal. The vet came out last night and said my little bay might turn out to be a grey like her dad! Does this happen often? I don't care either way, but what do greys look like at birth? She sure looks like a dark bay, dorsal stripe and black points. Her head and shoulders are almost black and behind the wither she's more reddish bay. What do ya'll think? Hubby trying to get the pictures posted (that will help to guess color, right? Duh!) Anyway, pray that it warms up and stops raining so they can go out in the beautiful grass paddocks I've been saving for them!

WOW!! Wouldn't it be nice if everybody who bred horses would put as much thought and research as the people who post on this board. Everyone who has posted certainly has produced foals that enhance the sport horse breeding program in this country. If only the general horse public would support the breeder by purchasing these well bred weanlings and yearlings!!!

Anne - How's it going with trying to get Hattie in foal? Doing AI can be frustrating, but don't give up! It will be well worth it next spring when that foal arrives. Who are you using for a vet? Are you taking her to a clinic to have her done? I hear that UF Vet School has a good program. Timing is everything with AI, so try to find the best vet/clinic to increase your chances of settling her more quickly.
"Sparky" is doing great and the contracted flexior tendon has totally resolved itself. Yeah!!!

Great news for Sparky Joy!! Is he still acting like a little pistol??? Please post some more pictures. Hattie was bred yesterday. The vet didn't expect her to come back in heat so quick (she was ready to bred 10 days ago and then I found out the stallion's schedule and he was only at the Barracks 1 week and left yesterday to go show. Anyway she was put on regumate for 7 days then luteolized (sp?). Then lo and behold she had a 40mm follicle on Wednesday night! I am becoming so breeding literate!! And to think 2 months ago I couldn't even tell if my horse was in heat!! Keep your fingers crossed for us, I'll know in 2 weeks if this worked!

Tamarack Stables Rivers Edge had an Andalusian filly Tuesday morning. We haven't posted photos of the new arrival on the web site yet but they will be up soon at http://www.tamarackstables.com
Meanwhile, my TB mare has been bagged up for two weeks and is ready to foal any day. I have been living in our RV (picture window looking out on her paddock) and doing the every hour all night watch.

Sounds like some wonderful babies coming into the world this year! Congratulations everyone.
Mary in Area 1 - If either mom or dad was grey, there's a 50% chance the foal will be grey -- unless one of the parents was homozygous grey, then there will be a %100 chance of a grey foal.
Does the baby have any light spots around his eyes? If there is grey around the eyes, then he will turn grey, regardless of what he looks like right now. My mare was a classic chestnut when she was born, but by the time I got her as a late yearling, she was a very dark strange reddish blackish color and you would never have guessed that she could ever have been considered chestnut. (Her full brother was the same way.) Now at just-turned 5 she's a beautiful dappled grey with full black points and just hint of red. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hi all - second foal arrived at 3:00 am this morning (Wed). A buckskin colt, with 3 white socks and a big star on forehead. Standing 41 inches tall at birth; he and mama are doing great. He's out of a 16.0 TB mare and by the same sire of "Sparky." I'll get some pictures made this afternoon and post them tomorrow.
How's everybody else doing? I know we still have more foals out there to talk about! Mary, we need to see some pictures!

Congratulations! Well, I am now starting the watch for my Just The Best foal.. I am pleased to say that "baron" the late foal, has become a much better stud foal colt lately. He has had his but whooped a bit, and has also gotten much friendlier too! I haven't gotten to this board as much lately, the weather is nice, I am teaching/showing/judging alot for the next few months, but I will get on a few times a week late at night! Now that mama and baby are settled and all is checking out well...I am going to bed for a while. Both of them need injections of antibiotics every 12 hours....the colt had a lot of fluid in his lungs from being shoved back in so many times. My vets arms are bruised from the wrist back...and the colt is already ruling the stall! Started running around it less then an hour and a half old! Mare is a large bodied 13 hand 1/2 welsh 1/2 halflinger...bred to a 13.3 hand AQHA stud....colt looks as if he belongs to some huge warmblood mama.....he has to spray leg to nurse! Unbeleiveable that he even made it into this world!

Our mare foaled a beautiful filly Friday morning @ 4:00 am. Mom and baby are doing fine. The filly has a tiny fingenail crescent of white on her forehead which will soon disappear. She is dark bay but is going to be gray, lots of white hairs sprinkled throughout her coat.

Had two foals this weekend! Both healthy colts and mares are both doing fine too. Thank God for easy deliveries (knock on wood) hope the next two go as well. Good Luck MG! I had a call from the foaling attendant this morning, she said that she doesn't think my Holsteiner mare is really pregnant because she's not bagging up yet and she's due on May 24th. Great I need this to worry about! So I called *MY* repo vet and he said that they are crazy and he's sure that she's in foal, the last time he saw her was two weeks ago for shots and he said he saw the foal kicking then. I am going to go by and check on her tonight myself and see if I can't feel the foal moving around, I swear I could before.

Don't worry CSH, if she's a maiden mare she may not bag up 'til later, right all?
I was really nervous yesterday, Fedex did not arrive with shipped semen until 6:30 p.m.
Vet was great about meeting me at the barn A.S.A.P. to do the A.I. Now have to sweat it out for 2 weeks to see! Will have ultrasound then. If pregnancy confirmed does anyone recommend another U/S later to make sure it hasn't been absorbed??
MsHunter
May. 12, 2000, 06:49 AM
Just a hint here for you. After doing A.I, the vet usually wants to come the next day to make sure they ovulated. This gives you an answer at least as to whether it is conceivable for them to be in foal or not.
CSH
May. 12, 2000, 08:44 AM
MG this isn't a maiden mare, she had two foals, but has not been bred in four years. I tried to contact her former owner all day yesterday to find out what her usual foaling pattern is but couldn't get her. The mare looks preggie to me, but she doesn't look ready to foal anytime soon. The vet is coming today to palp her and then we'll know for certain.

Ebw, I'm so sorry you lost your mare. The baby is in excellent hands, though, I'm sure. I'm sure when some of the active breeders see your post they will have good information for you. Also, there was a thread on this board awhile back on a "bad mother" that had lots of info on handling foster foals and finding nurse mares that might be helpful to you. Good luck with your baby. Jane E., vet decided not to come back to re-palp mare as she is so difficult. We have to sedate her for everything even though she has been well handled from the start. If she even has a whiff of the vet she gallops off to the far end of the fields! Will wait out the 2 weeks.

EBW - Sorry to hear of your loss. I'm assuming it's the mare that had the dificult foaling. Unfortunately, it has been a bad year for breeders. My neighbor, who breeds Tennessee Walking Horses, has lost two foals this year and another small breeder in the area has lost two as well and a mare! This is a little off the wall, but you may want to ask your vet about a nurse "goat." Yes, a goat! I have heard this done in the past, plus nurse goats are easier to find than mares. It may be a little awkward at first, but it works! And it may look at little funny too, but it could save you many hours of the bottle feeding. Good luck to you with finding a solution.

Thanks to you all. Our filly is doing well, actually plumping up a bit and is drinking from the water tub and grazing. She is getting a liter of foal-lac every two hours and we tried the bucket yesterday (lots of bubble blowing but she was interested)
The little Welsh "auntie" is fantastic. She mothers Maddie as if she were her own. We are lucky that Maddie was able to get all her colostrum in the 5 days she had her dam. Now the tough part, not spoiling her, and teaching her to be a horse!

Hi Jane and all -
Well, our third one arrived this morning...three weeks early! Lost no sleep here and mama and baby are doing fine. It's a black filly with a big blaze, one hind sock and a belly spot on both sides. Kind of knew it would be soon, mama was just soooo miserable. She had enough of that kicking! Only one more to go now and she's not due until the first of July.
Jane, have you rebred your mare that had the first foal for you? And, did you ever receive any information on Special Evevnt? I heard a little bit about one of his offspring and it sounds like an exceptional individual.

Hi!!! Just a quick update about what I have been up to...other than reading about everyones foal adventures! I have just bred my mare to Don Alfredo and will breed another later this month, so I am very excited about that.
I have been busy taking my young hunter to shows this year and it has been a lot of fun watching him grow from a fuzzy yearling to a conformation hunter! I am such a proud mom. Anyway, it has been a great year so far- oh you can see him at www.jamesriverhorseshow.com (http://www.jamesriverhorseshow.com) (He's bay!!)ha.
Anyway, I am trying to get my yearling pretty to do Upperville- he looks great this week! But he has a little temper about practicing, actually he has a little temper period, so I have to get that straight before I put everyone at risk at a horseshow- it really is a lot of work to get one ready to show in hand! Well, that's what I have been up to! How about everyone else?
PS. Just came from a show where someone was talking about breeding his hunter mare to Special Event in the next few weeks.

Hello everybody! I just returned a few days ago from a FREE vacation at the Ritz Carlton in San Juan, Puerto Rico. I took one of my horse friends with me and we had a blast doing nothing. They had a tour from the hotel called Snorkling/Horseback Riding, what a combination! Anyway - my mare was bred 19 days ago to Fakir Rouge. I still don't know if she is in foal since my vet went on vacation to Hawaii (she can afford it after what I've been paying!!). Hattie was ultrasounded at 13 day post ovulation but my vet didn't see anything. I'm just hoping it was too early. At least she hasn't come back into season. I have to wait till this Tuesday to have her checked.
I'm sorry for everythingbutwings loss of her mare, but at least the foal sounds like she's doing fine. Please post pictures of your new foals!

OK guys, I need some prayers.... PLEASE!
I just shipped my mare into my vet clinic.. I wasn't happy with her appearance, and she is 10 days late (the combination). I called my vet in, I felt she may have ruptured her pre-pubic tendon. I was almost right. She has strained it badly. This means she may rupture while foaling, and she will never be able to have foals again, or she may deliver fine, (my first choice). Or, she may get in trouble all together with the delivery and I can have trouble with mare and foal and lose one or both. I will post whenever we aer through this ordeal. I am over to the clinic to sit with her now!

You know if she would justhave it, life would be easier. The vet feels I have a 50/50 chance itmay just be edema, andwow let the water flow when she breaks. But, she may also tear. AS of now, no foal, getting closer by her appearance. I have seen mares with aruptured pre-pubic tendon, so I doknow what to look for, thank god i had seen it before Louise, or I would have had her home instead of the close (3 mile) clinic with surgical facility. Hate to see my vet bill, hopefully the insurance will cover it though!

Gaisha just had her baby, a beautiful bay filly with two socks and and big star. Exactly on her due date and can you believe we all missed it! Milk test was only two squares and the vet said she had a few days to go. Mom and baby are doing great and I think not being with her was actually a good thing. Jane, I keep having trouble too. It just keeps telling me that I don't have any pictures. I am such a dunce about this computer stuff. I don't have the slightest idea what is wrong.

I sent each of you 1 picture, but it takes 3 minutes to upload each one. Can anyone help me with a free service on the internet where I can put my pictures?

They just lead you right through getting your pics up. Can't wait to see more!

Jane, I got your e-mail picture of the new baby, what a beauty, thanks for sending it. The site that JB has given you is really very easy, even I was able to follow the directions and get pictures posted. Good luck!

Hey Jane - thanks for emailing the photo. What a handsome looking fella! Before too much longer, he and his buddy will be out playing and having a wonderful time together! Get some new pics of the "first born" as well.
I will have my photos up (hopefully) tomorrow some time. Finally took some pictures this past weekend. They are all growing so fast! One more baby due, still..... just a few weeks off. Probably the most anticipated one as well!
Jane - when I put in your e-mail address, and got the page with the thumbnail photos. I just highlited the link at the top of the page, where you would type in something, and that's what I posted.

JB you are very computer literate, I however am not. Thanks so much!
I will try to get update pics this weekend. The first one is turning either seal brown or liver chestnut, an amazing color.
The second one is still too young to tell what I really have!

Finally Joy - I have been waiting a long time, but it was worth it!!! Great website but you've always been creative and talented!
I love your babies, especially the buckskin. Will he have black points above his stockings and a dorsal stripe?? How many broodmares do you have? Looks like you've got quite an operation!! Clue me in on where you have the time especially with 3 kids!!

Gosh ya'll..what gorgeous foals! Congrats. Are horse babies a miracle, or what...
I can sit in a corner of the stall and just watch them for hours.

Hey Anne - Thanks for all the kind words! Yes, the buckskin is my favorite as well. He's the first one we've ever had and he has such a beautiful head and big, kind eye. What a disposition he has too. He will have the black points on his legs, but he won't have the line down his back. A true bucksin doesn't have the line, only the dun factor carries it. So when you see a horse with the darker stipe down their back, they are a shade of dun.
This last mare due to foal has to put something VERY fancy on the ground to beat out the three that have already arrived!
How's Hattie? Have you taken her to VA yet?

Spfarm - Hattie is in VA. The first words out of the vet's mouth when he saw her were "she's fat". Hattie is an air plant - 1/4 scoop of grain and 2 flakes alfalfa makes her show ring fat. I have resisted the urge to call and check on her. I worry about the MOUNTAINOUS pasture she's in (remember she's a flatland horse) and that the temperatures have dipped in the 40s(she is such a princess). I just don't have the broodmare mentality yet. She will be bred this week (fresh AI). Keep your fingers crossed!

Saved the best for last!!! At 315 AM (Pacific Time), Rosa foaled. Awesome baby!!! Four high whites, bald face, and big belly patch on one side and a lightening bolt on the other. A true black too! Can you tell I'm tickled? Oh, it's a colt, standing 42 inches. Three weeks early, but looking good!
Pictures will be post within the next day or so at: www.spfarm.com (http://www.spfarm.com)
Foaling season is now over for us. Good luck to the remaining ones out there!

FINALLY!! the mare at the place i board (Big Fat Mare, as i call her, LOL) had her foal last night, about 3am. nice looking stud colt, chestnut and white tobiano with a funky star/stripe/snip amd maybe one blue eye, although the white doesnt descend over it...the baby is by a Trakhener stallion who has thrown VERY nice foals this year. the mare has now had 3 paint foals by 3 different solid trakhener stallions, all very pretty /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hi Guys! Foal number 5 arrived a bit early this morning!!!! Like almost a month early!!!!!!!!!!!!! The mare is doing fine and discovered that being a Mom isn't so bad! Baby, though VERY thin and week behind seems to be catching on to life with GUSTO! Her eyes are what worries me ......they still have a bit of a smokey blue tinge to them....supposed to keep eye drops in and watch for signs of trouble.....whatever that may be /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Besides that, outlook is good! Breeding her back to my welsh this time..... /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Watch for pics being posted on the site in the next few days.
