Group Hug/Warm Moment: (Here's your chance to redeem yourself for making Erin's life miserable. Write something great about how much you've grown as a person/rider/horse owner by being allowed to participate in this forum. (Must be heartfelt and hella sappy!)

I have received so much good information and caring support since I posted about my orphan Maddie!

To find that KS knows some of the best people from my teen age years as well as knows one of my first horses very well surprised the heck out of me.

Going to the Middleburg Classic and meeting so many of the great people from this bb was the hit of my September. Great people, good information and a wonderful place to find out there are so many others in this world with, not only similar interests, but skewed senses of humor as well is fantastic.

Someone posts a Homophobic comment and I get chided for calling them a bigot? This is not a funny subject or a joke about make believe events! Were posts attackign Kelsey deleted on the threads concerning the "Mexican's speaking English?"" Why because you take that seriously! If that is the attitude of Chronicle staff then maybe the Human rights Campaign here in D.C, needs to be made aware of the Chronicle's attitudes.

Moesha,
I read your post again and calling me a coal miners daughter and Ms. Allentown Steel. Well first I am a boy. Second my dad is not a coal miner and neither is my mom. Also I don't even live close to Allentown, and they make steel in Pittsburg. You are very immature for your age.

Oooh another opportunity to rant under the guise of filling out a survey....

Here goes:

Best Thread (Overall):
-Gore Vs. Bush - it was illuminating, most informative, occassionally funny and scared the bejesus out of me. Did provide, however, great insight into the American populace;

Most Informative Thread (horse related, of course!):
-The most recent posts by Pwynnorman and Snowbird on proposed rule changes;

Best Thread-into-Action (goes to an idea/recommendation/thought that actually proved to have a positive outcome):
-Colin's BB Aids' drive;

Most Humorous Thread:
-Oh no doubt about that one, Dog Park Etiquette; though Canter and Jair's nationalistic pride did provide many hours of amusement;

Dead Horse Award (goes to thread topic that was rehashed way too much, should be banished for next year and NOT to be reopened here):
-Gore vs. Bush for all the reasons noted above;

Hall of Shame Award (goes to best deleted thread):
-Grooms...

-Anyplace Farm and Kelsy;

Most Informative Member (horsemanship, training tips, etc.):
-DMK, Weatherford, Snowbird, LCR Scott

Best Motivational Member:
-is 'motivational' a euphemism for 'incite to riot?'...Colin, Moesha, Anyplace Farm...this list could go on.

Best Annoying Member (meant in a GOOD WAY!):
-hands down, the ever lovely and amusing Colin;

Most Humorous Member:
-Jeb, DMK, Anyplace Farm, Canter, Jair, Quinn, Slugger; again there are many on this BB who should be writing standup;

Most Sorely Missed Alter-ego:

William Faulkner Medal (goes to member who best uses stream-of-consciousness, rambling, disjointed posts...but in a GOOD WAY!):

Group Hug/Warm Moment:
-This BB is uniquely nutty, informative, enraging, baffling and heartening. Slightly off topic (for which the Anti Humour Brigade will probably flame me) but, what on earth does Kumbaya mean. Is it a Simba Lion King thing? Or was that more along the lines of Akunamata...."it means no worries, for the rest of your life da da da" Losing it now. Sorry for the off topic post but it was late.

I made it on a list but not an Alter-Ego list???? Must try harder on this board!!!
I must say I value and appreciate each and every poster who comes here to post, each and every thread for the potential it contains, to improve, change, enlighten, amuse or otherwise affect my life, for the many and varied interrelationships of people and written word on this board. In a word, a sense of community, good and bad, ups and downs, humurous and serious, it's own little eco system I am very happy to be part of.

Sorry to be the downer voice here - I have LOVED reading all these posts. I've laughed out loud, blushed, and completely smeared my mascara a la Tammy Fay by whiping away the tears.

But don't you guys think this is the kind of alienating, "cliquey" thread that some of the other BB members are complaining about?

Or is that the point?

Pretend for a moment that your name isn't mentioned on here ... and yet you post frequently. I worry that sometimes these kinds of threads hurt people's feelings.

I'm not looking for replies - just consider the thought OK?

Point well taken. But my name was mentioned and look what that did - it made me feel pretty rotten there for awhile. So being mentioned isn't that important.

I don't think Jeb intended this to be cliquey at all. He is a very nice person with a great sense of humour, and I think he just wanted EVERYONE to vote on best threads etc. If you are worried, perhaps you should use some of Jeb's categories and start some extra threads - maybe "Best Informative Thread" etc.. Ones that are generic enough that they don't name usernames if you are worried about hurting peoples feelings.

Yes, Canter, I thought about that too. But then I thought that if everyone posts their thoughts on the subejct, rather than just one group of people, then it becomes a way for everyone to join in and give their opinions/feelings, which I very much think is what Jeb intended in starting it. That expands it out beyond any particular group. (Notice my post did not contain the words "Colin" or "Moesha" /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif )

Becca
Dec. 1, 2000, 01:27 PM
First, let me say that while I don't KNOW Jeb, judging by the very nature of all of his posts, I highly doubt this was meant in any way but as fun, kind, and had no deep rooted evil schemes. I think this is fun, and can't wait to find time to put my own thoughts up!
A ground rule of this thread was that EVERYONE MUST PARTICIPATE! If everyone participates, adn adds their own thoughts and feelings, a very large majority of the people will be included in these, and hopefully we can take it as the fun that I personally feel it was intented to be.

I like Jair's idea of adding categories. If someone- ANYONE sticks out as having a good post somewhere, or a general good thing, or outstanding attribute in the "Bulletin Board Personality" make a category to fit it!! Take the parent categories, and expand them! Half of what makes some of the threads turn bad is people worrying about them turning bad, which brings on a whole new front of furies. Lets just have fun with it!! I certainly hope no feelings are hurt, but if we all use the good judgement I KNOW(!) we all have!! /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif (Yes, even Colin!) Then it can and will just be tons of fun!

Oh, Big Hoof, Bigger Hoof, what is next, Biggest Hoof or Hoof-n-mouth?

In response to alienating anyone, of course that was NOT my intent. I just thought of this thread as a way to recount all the good information, the laughs, the nice folks we've all come to know and love, the lessons we have learned, etc. ("I'd like to teach the world to sing...")

Just a way to thank everyone for the participation this year and sharing of views and ideas. ("Thanks for the memories...")

If you were not singled out by anyone, don't feel bad at all! Be very proud that you haven't gotten under anyone's skin, been called down by Erin, gotten flash-fried for posting your opinions, or sunk to the depth of silliness that alot of us have. ("Did you ever know that you're my hero...")

Can we feel the LOVE yet? ("Kumbaya, my Lord...")

BTW - would it scare anybody for me to tell you that I actually get paid to be a Facilitator for a very large corporation? I mean, I actually fly all over the country to spread my special kind of love! And lemme tell ya, it's a beautiful thing to be able to MAKE a group of executives sing Kumbaya, while swaying back and forth with their hands in the air! I've just scared myself, I think.

Jair and Jeb

I totally didn't mean my comment to be a criticism of this thread. I love this thread.

I think it's wonderful that Jeb started it.

I just wondered having read some of the nasty/wistful/jealous comments on some of the other topics currently going (canadian bashing comes to mind Jair) and thought that if there was a way to broaden this maybe we should at least recognise it.

That's why I wasn't expecting any replies to my post - but that's also why I haven't posted my own. All this nasty criticism about the EMG BB from some of my fellow compatriots on THAT OTHER THREAD has left a very nasty taste in my mouth.

Forgive my soul searching. If they complain, but don't join in, how can they expect to have fun?

horsenut
Dec. 1, 2000, 04:26 PM
I WAS going to play (it looked like fun), then I WASN'T (as a fairly frequent poster who falls into the "nobody knows me" category, Canter's thoughtful post hit home), and finally I've decided I WILL play since, after all, participation is "mandatory". /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Here goes ...

Best Thread (Overall): I have loved all the horsey-book threads!

Most Informative Thread (horse related, of course!): Drugs & Our Equines, and the Weight threads

Best Thread-into-Action (goes to an idea/recommendation/thought that actually proved to have a positive outcome): The (many) helmet threads that have contributed to several people wearing approved.

Most Humorous Thread: So many (especially with the Canadians on the loose a week ago)! However my favorites were "Favorite Trainer Sayings" and "Mispronounced Horse Names".

Dead Horse Award (goes to thread topic that was rehashed way too much, should be banished for next year and NOT to be reopened here): Towerheads and the above-mentioned helmets.

Hall of Shame Award (goes to best deleted thread): Grooms ...

Most Informative Member (horsemanship, training tips, etc.): I always find Portia, Chrissy, and Weatherford to be truly well-informed, as well as good at communicating their knowledge. Ooh, and Erin, who always seems to have all the answers!

Best Motivational Member: Inverness for asking questions without fear of ridicule(!); CTT for her candor and empathy.

Best Annoying Member (meant in a GOOD WAY!): OK, I was trying to do the whole survey without mentioning Colin ...

Most Humorous Member: There are so many ... I don't want to leave any out. I think that most of you are a riot.

Most Sorely Missed Alter-ego: Well, I can't say I miss ANY of them. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Rodney Dangerfield Lifetime Achievement Award (goes to most maligned and misunderstood member): Erin again.

Fashionplate Barbie Award (needs no explanation): Duffy!

Best recurring annoying topic that has nothing to do with anything: Underwear ... but keep 'em coming, I need my daily laugh quotient.

Kumbaya Award (goes to thread where everyone actually got along): Alternate Lifestyles. I was so impressed with how mature that whole discussion remained despite VERY differing viewpoints. (Special kudos here to Jair and pacificsolo, who disagreed vehemently but did it (usually) so politely that it was a pleasure to read.)

Member you would most likely call to bail you out of jail: Nobody, but I might call Portia to represent me.

Member most likely to call you from jail: Nobody again. Maybe this category should be "Member most likely to be IN jail" ... then, I could cast another vote for Colin.

Meriam Webster Trophy (goes to member who has proven a mastery of the English language - spelling still does NOT count): Inverness.

Shoulda Been There Award (goes to scenario that you missed, but was recounted in such wonderful detail, it made you sorry you weren't there): Mosby's.

Group Hug/Warm Moment: While I am decidedly "cliqueless", I am very grateful to (and was originally very surprised by) the many people who wrote to me when I lost my beloved dog recently. Not only did people post the warmest messages here on the board, but many people e-mailed me privately and I was struck by the feeling that if I ever really needed support from the people here, I'd get it, regardless of the fact that I'm not remotely in any kind of an "in-crowd". Thanks to everybody for making my days so entertaining and sometimes even educational!

And then, we are going to all be really evil on every single thread for one month, and then proceed to gradually revert to our angelic selves and win the "most improved" award. Sound like a plan?
And thanks to the one person that mentioned my never-uttered name. It was appreciated!

I just wanted to say thanks to those who mentioned me so kindly, and to apologize to those many folks whose names I didn't mention but deserved it.

Ever since I posted my version, I've been thinking of people who certainly deserve to be mentioned and kicking myself for forgetting them. Then I realized how many people that would end up being. You know -- "but Kachoo is such a good writer and so funny, how could I not mention her, and GoodToGo said this that was so insightful, and Cactuskate and horsenut were so nice about that, and Inverness did this, and TXJumper did that, and how could I not mention Cougar-2 and HSM and Sebastian" and so forth -- I guess that's why those people who win awards stand up there babbling and saying, "I want to thank...." everybody and their mother. /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

So, for everybody out there, just because your name isn't mentioned, don't think it means anything bad or that you are forgotten or overlooked. Maybe it just means you're not a pain in the butt (or at least, you haven't been one lately)! /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Gee, Sarah, you really think I'd bail YOU out of jail? (Or you just figure I've got deep enough pockets??hehe!) Actually, Portia can attest to the fact that it might be ME who needs the bailing (along with Erin) for letting you guys get SO wild over those poor mashed vegies. I mean, PETF is just HOUNDING us! Collections taken now.

And, Sarah, I promise to call you when I get there.... /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Oh, and if ANYONE can tell me how to fix the IE/Netscape that continually CRASHES when I go to this BB, please EMAIL ME! Also, warning DO NOT DOWNLOAD IE 5.5 - which, I believe is (was, as it is now deleted and I am still crashing) the source of the crashing.

Actually, the thread about how to properly do long hair (I hang upside down and loose braid mine from the top of my head towards the ground a la Dr. Seuss and then cram my helmet on just to hack) ran right around the same time as my "how to show in hand" and, when I found out the proper attire requirements for in-hand I cried out "That's me!" /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

That or driving. Either way, I don't have to deal with the hair problem.

Consider yourself hugged! My hair comes to well below my shoulders, I don't know why as it isn't a fashion statement. In fact, I noticed an unpleasant sensation rolling over in bed where my hair gets caught in my armpits so hence the who-ville style braid /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Besides, no one commented on my "Princess Leia Ears" remark so....

Well since Portia is an attorney used to picking her words carefully I really don't mind bein a pain in the butt at all. My kids will vouch for the fact that I've always been a pain in the butt and it's really not new for me.

But, thank you for all those who think they learned something from my posts.
Here's My tentaive list:

Best Thread (Overall): Drugs, Alcohol, Smoking, etc. on the Circuit. And especially all of CTT input. She is a very caring person.

Most Informative Thread: Too many to pick just one. The rules change threads,because the results may even get something done.

The Weight Issue threads, that led to at least one of our members getting the
help needed for an eating disorder;

Dead Horse Award: If I ever see the anymore bashing of other another BB or person.

Hall of Shame Award: The metal pipe incident

Most Informative Member: Way too many to pick just one: but Pwynn and Doubleeez and Weatherford.

Laura, CTT, Lucky Duck, Weatherford, wtywmn, louise and others, on real issues that we don't want to talk about but lurk in the background of our sport and our lives;
Jane Ervin, and Heather, about a lot of different things on training and horses in general;

Best Motivational Member: Portia with her level head and tolerance.

Inverness, for coming back to the sport and sharing the learning experiences with us.

Best Bud You Met from the BB: Happily, again too many to name. All those who
have been so helpful with our projects by sharing their opinions and were there to keep me going when I thought there was no point to try any more. I hope they know who they are.

Best recurring annoying topic that has nothing to do with anything: Baby Quiche, of
course. Long may they live! May Peta learn that vegetables have feelings too!

Well, I'm an idiot and can't figure out how to cut and paste into this little white box, and it's just too late to actually type the whole survey, so let me just say...

I LOVE this board. Thanks to everyone (well, almost everyone /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif) who has participated. It gives me a great place to "hang out" when I'm too uninspired to do anything else, and an equally good place to post when I get overly excited by something horsey (please don't read too much into that comment!) I've learned a bunch!

The most recent thing I've learned is that I need to start my OWN clique. Anyone else at that awful age where you are too old to be a junior, but too young to be one of the adults? Nobody mentioned my name AND I can't join UJUMP /infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif. Humph. I think I'll just go to bed.

Oh, okay. Everyone is forgiven. I'd miss this board too much if I left!

Thank you Portia, for pointing out the principal difficulty in participating in this little survey.

As all of you who have tackled Jeb's mandatory assignment have undoubtedly discovered, it is damn near impossible to decide on "the best" when the entire pool of candidates represent the cream of the crop.

Being pressed for time, I tended to name those folks with whom I've had the most recent contact. If I were to really take this assignment seriously, it would take me the balance of this year and most of 2001 to go back and review the insightful and inane, the helpful and hilarious, the critical and the criminal, and the facetious and fashionable.

Suffice it to say, the year has been a hoot. I'm looking forward to sharing a thought-provoking (and, at times, infuriating) 2001 with all of you.

Ok I know I have been out of touch for the past fue weeks but reagelmeans told m about this thread and I sat there and read it and just the number of times I saw my name up there brought this big grin to my face. Its been a crazy month and I wish I had more time to do things but I wanted to say my little tib before putting this to reast this thread. Im to tired to realy think at the momen but I want to give my best list in m own words to the people who have touched me in so many ways.

Weatherford what can I say you are one of the deaest people to me. you ae a friend and a mentour to me and somehow manage to keep me calm when the wold seams to crazy and things are too much you are just as grate in person as you are here on the boards.

Snowbird you always have these words and wise wisdome to share You can make some of the most horable times seam so alive and poetic. You have become one of the easiet people for me to talk to and get the truth even if it slaps me in the face. Usualy when
that hapens I need it.

Majical I half to add you cause you have brought so much meaning to my life. you are this wonderfull woman that is slowly opening these magnificent doors to a bigger life. you have brought smiles and tears to my eyes cause you have helped me in so many ways as I have done the same for you. Who would have known that you were truly that magnificent if it wasn't for you being yourself to me.

Laura what can i say you are one of the most kind hearted people I know. Yes one of these days I will get the film done but thats on hold till I get a fue more tings dealt with. You have listend to me talk and have sat there helping me accomplish the imposible. Thanks sis for being so great.

Pwynn you are alway there makeingme wishfor the better. I think you and i make a good team when we put our heads together. you are so magnificent and have so much to offer. I wish more could experience your kind nature.

Portia if it wasn't for you I would have never came here and would never have experienced this world. It truly is you thatwe all need to thank cause you are what brought me here. Just remember that all of what i have done and said could not have been without you. Thanks.

Devildog what can I say. hey those breeches were a steel wern't they. I just half to rubb it in. Although you hae your militent side you are one of the most laid back and careing people I know. Or mabey its just I mellowed out with an E9 mother and a O6 father growing up. But this person everyone is one of the most inteligent and funest person to have a talk about anything and fo I finding someone who can actualy know more than me on things gets skairy. I hope your futre marage is wondefull. You deserve only the best

Amanda ( I only know you as Tex in my heart) to think of all of those funny talks we have ha in the past. Sometimes what you half to tell me is worth the gosip in gold. Hope charlie brings you so much joy cause you deserve it. He has come along way and you two always seam to amaze me when I get the newest set of pick to see which reminds me time for updates.

Pasificsolo I think you know what I think of you. Shuch a friend and always there to help me pick my head up when I needed it. threw the hard times this past september you gave me curage to hang in.

Olmos Heaven Everyone this is the funny one of them all as fare as proximity stories. I have classes 5 minuiets from where she works and somehow nither of us manage to have enough time to meet for lunch. I promise next year. But You ae one of the best people to talk to when I need the local edge Not to mention you helped me so many times I kow that this lunch when we do see each other will half to be on me. Actualy there is not enough money to repay you for what you have done for me. you are a good friend when I need someone to vent to when concerning local issues. Thanks Babe.

Reaglemeans...... Sarah you are such a survivor. If only everyo one could have read all of those emails you sent me. You and majical are my gratest achievement in life and to be able to stand up and say that my achievemet is not superficial but just talking about hings in life is the gratest gift I have ever been given. I have truly been blessed to know you and in time I wish to have the chanct to meet this butifull young lady I have heard so much about at the same time seen grow into this powerfull selfconfadent person. the truly majical part is sarah is reading your posts before ever knowing me and since you have known me. you are no longer afraid nomater how hard it is to speak up and say what you want. That in itself is a virtue and Im sure Majical can tell you how many times i have drilled that line into her head.

Hidi you make me laugh and smile and make things so special. Its the little things in the past you have done for me that means so much.

Collin well when I need to rollover and laugh you suply it in full force. So whens the next good deed for the year. I half to admit the chain noseband one was quite smooth.

JO in due time you will become as special to me as you see how special these people are to me

Louise you are THE BEST! always makeing things alittle better as the days go on. I hope for you that all that wondress guidence will bestowed on the genreations ahead of us that will wish to have know someone like you.

Erin you are the best person helping me reach goals and levals of confadence that only a ya ago I never knew I had in me.
