View Full Version : The New Porch Annex
Portia

OK, with HSM, Kachoo, Jaded (TinCan), and the multi-named BossHoss (Epona, Wronglead, etc.), it's time we started building a new Porch Annex over here, not to replace the original Porch, but in addition to it. It can be The Porch South (or East, or West, or North - dang, I can't tell direction in cyberspace)
For those who don't know, The Porch is a creation of the E-search H/J board posters, created long before I started posting there. The Porch belongs to Schoolmarm, one of the original posters there. It is a very large virtual porch with lots of rocking chairs and a cider still in the back. Only the older posters (at least 30 I think, with a few exceptions) are actually allowed to sit on the porch, but there is room for all. Older teens and twenties can sit on the stairs leading to the porch, while the kids are welcome on the lawn, where they take care of the ponies and sheep that roam the property. Becca and Kellybird are two of the original lawn kids, so we allow them to sit on the stairs occasionally.
The Porch also has arts and crafts and entertainment. There is lots of baling twine knitting and manure scupting. The Chippendales dancers stop by when someone has a birthday. And the still, of course.
So what do you say, gang, do we have enough baling twine to start building another Porch over here?

I was a lawn-sitter on E-search, as hunteruler. I'll be the first to say that I want us to keep the porch running at least until I'm admitted to the stairs!

Sorry Suz, but did you forget? The chippies haven't been seen nor heard from since we had that big party on the porch for JOH's birthday. http://www.chronofhorse.com/ubb/eek.gif Hmmmm....maybe we need to ask HER where they went...oh JOH!?!
Awesome idea, Portia - a porch annex(although I'm not sure how I feel about being referred to as one of the "older" posters /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif ). I just hope that all the other COTH residents feel free to come on up 'n set a spell too! /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Well count me in, out of the rain and snow, I'll be the first to admit anything can be built and roofed with a bit of ducttape and manure patching, but someone musta taken too many pink pills when they did that repair, cos I think the annex is cozier, dryer, and has a better view to the lawn, not to mention closer to the bathtub still, and a railing (best to knock them lawnkids off the annex rail with a broom, easier than sweeping em off the porch once in a while).

I'm old...would like the rocker over there by the cider keg if it's not taken.
This would be umm, let's see--Mandy/Sabra/now Jaime Lynn. Where's BobO? Thought he said he might be over here--has he been changing identities as well, or just lurking? JB found some new purple pills that I like better than the pink especially for the migranes es has been giving me. Hey, I was told that here, I could bring in some KJ Chard, or is that only allowed out behind the shed??? JB better not bring those nasty hamsters over here, or everyone had better get updated on their rabies shots! Hope the Annex is a success!!! I'm terrible with a hammer, but can I make some cookies? Or Zucchini bread even!!!LOLOL ROTFL

Sandstone> I personally invite you to share my top stair with me, hey if we sprawl out enough we'll block the Porchers from getting onto the porch then maybe the 20 year olds can sneak into a rocking chair /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Good plan as long as BossHoss doesn't chase us off with the broom, and believe me a broom is a weapon in her hands!!! lol

Although I barely squeak in with enough birthdays to get onto the porch, I can rock with the best of you. Just make sure I have a rocker with expandable sides, since I've given up on my youthful svelte figure. Anyone ever taste homemade scrumpy? It's related to cider, only more vile and intoxicating.

An open air porch will naturally accomodate smokers downwind of the prevailing breezes (seem to dwell there generally anyway /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif), won't it?

I am reclaiming my originol porch kid status. Though I think it requires a friendly reminder that when the cookies came out, i got to sneak into an actual porch corner and comeone would throw me one, refering to me as rufus, or other such "codenames"

Wow, JOH, how on earth did you manage to wrestle those Chippies from Wendi? She took them to Barcelona with her (along with the remaining contents of the still). What? You say you wrestled Wendi for them? Hmm, what a sight that must have been!!!
Jaded, hurry and get those guys outta there before they get dirty! We'll have to hose them off if they do - oh, wait, that's the whole idea, right? Good one!
Becca, I thought you were in charge of organizing all those helmets so we don't trip over them getting to our rockers.
Regalmeans - you are welcome to the steps, but you have to help keep the ponies and sheep in line. Those lawn kids get disracted at time. You may even have to step in and round them back up when the kids let them wander.
Jaime Lynn (mandy, sabra, you're giving me almost the headache wronglead was) - I am saving the hampsters for the right moment, so watch yourself! However, glad you liked the purple pills - I'll remember that next time you get all migrainy!
Portia - thanks for whipping together this annex - all these new folks will certainly add character to the porch.

Do y'all mind if I come on up and rock a spell? I'll bring some pinot noir, if'n y'all don't mind - not particularly fond of hard cider (or should I say, it's not particularly fond of me?) I could certainly use a good rocker, since I've been the lone barn person for the last 3 days, and I have mowed (grass AND bramble, no less), drug the ring, set up combinations and jumped said combinations, until my middle aged bones feel like dreadfully old bones... and we won't even talk about my back...
Becca, I thought you were going to move those helmets?
Bring on the Chippies!
PS - the one in chaps is mine...
If you don't mind, can we share the Pinot? The cider makes me have to go out behind the shed for long periods of time, and I can't appreciate the view very much!!!LOL

Louise and all other non-e-searchers -- The Porch, Steps, and Lawn are for Everybody! We'll put Snowbird in the rocker right next to Schoolmarm, where we can dust them both off conveniently. That is, if JOH and JB can be kept from turning Schoolie into a manure sculpture again.
As for BobO, he's been around before, but hasn't stuck his head in recently. I'll have to give him a nudge. We need our token male, don't we?

Ahh Sandstone! You come up here and rock next to me! As one of the original Porchers (actually I think it was something I was torturing Schoolmarm about that even made the darn Porch up..LOL)
Now as the local Southern California native of the Porch, it is MY job to give you the weather report here during the winter..(the Candians like umm JOH JOH will tell you how much I love doing this..LOL)
Todays weather: slight breeze, clear and 73 degrees outside~ Actually may have to wear a t-shirt tonight instead of a tank top, going to drop to at least 65 this evening ...brrrrrrrrrr
So tell me JOH~ are your bays covered in frost yet??? LOLOL *g*

Wow! I guess everyone hates the new E-search format as much as me. The Junior forum is practically non-existant, and I just hate that orange! I've been a lurker here for about a year, and I think I'm gonna stay here and leave E-Search.
Before you finish the porch, you should probably set off a bug bomb to get rid of those nasty black widows, or C2 will be scared to go in the corners (or look through a tack trunk)!
And while you're building stuff, could you pleeease build a shed for us on the lawn (the West Lawn?) because every time it snows or rains we get cold and wet because we get shoved off the porch with brooms. You can even make it out of some of Schoolie's old baling twine sweaters.
Ther IS a shed, but it's only for storing well aged grape juice. I started stocking once C2 fumigated it with Raid (it's OK to go in now C2--I even swept it out--crunch,crunch)--keep out unless you're legal--some of that stuff is expensive, by the way, did JB bring the still back from her horse show? Maybe you could get the Chippies to help with the kiddie-shed construction. I'm sure we have a spare roll of duct tape around here...

Now now, juniors, we follow strict rules on the drinking age for alcoholic beverages -- don't want the Porch being raided, now do we? HSM (which, in case you don't know, stands for Horse Show MOM), will get after you with her broom if she catches you breaking into the hard stuff. http://www.chronofhorse.com/ubb/tongue.gif
You should also know that step-sitters are required to help the lawn kids with the sheep and ponies, including mucking up after them. (Nope, no grooms here!) /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif http://www.chronofhorse.com/ubb/tongue.gif
However, we have been known to make the occasional exception and let a step-sitter have a sip of something from the still on her/his birthday or other special occasions. And we always have the plain cider and lemonade, and we share the cookies whenever anyone gets around to baking them. /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

HSM get the broom ready, I can see those darn juniors eyeing the tequila already.
Ahhhh, time to rest my weary bones. Yikes! what was that I just sat on? As if my butt wasn't sore enough, silly OTTB dumped me yesterday and it still hurts! CTT came over quite awhile ago, after the anti-dyslexia trolls at e-search got to her, but everyone of you e-searchers knows and remembers her. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif She's doing some very good work out in the real world. /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Do y'all remember Kim? Check out the thread on the great new horse book. I'm pretty sure it's the same Kim from E-search long ago.
JB has been visiting regularly for awhile, as have JTurner and JenniferS. Becca and Jo and Kellybird have been here, all well representing the younger contingent. Geno, but nobody's heard from him in a coon's age. I think we drove him off by making him dance that day when the Chippies were missing. Who am I forgetting?

Well, Schoolie, there may have been some rowdiness, but you know that never stopped most of us porchers before! /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
The problem, I think, was that the esearch bb powers-to-be (henceforth known as "the PTB") got a little too big for their britches and a little too confident that their patrons would stick with them no matter what. Sooo, they kept on making change after change in the format, for no apparent reason. People would plead with the PTB to please leave well enough alone, but the PTB never listened. They kept tweaking and changing, and each time posts got lost, names got changed, and the size of the advertising on each page grew.
With the most recent change, things were really a mess for a while - people couldn't get on, names had to be changed AGAIN, etc. Then, even after the PTB changed a few things back, the bb remained sooooooo slow that it's hardly worth the wait for each ad-laden page to open up. I mean, paint could dry and he** could freeze over while you wait for each page of a post to open. /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
So, everybody got bored and annoyed, and decided to re-group over here, where the PTB {1} have a name (Hi Erin! /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif ){2} have a brain (a considerable one at that) {3} listen when their patrons talk & {4} know a good thing when they see one.
JMHO, of course. /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Oct. 18, 2000, 04:36 PM
Aaaaah . . . now I get it. HSM, what you're saying is that without me to ride herd on you-all, the PTB felt it necessary to up the advertising revenue to fund the pending defamation of character lawsuits you guys were racking up. Is that about it? ;-)
I can't say I'm sorry I missed the festivities. My long ride into the sunset was probably a lot calmer and less annoying, and my horse doesn't throw me nearly as often as that dratted rocking chair did! Then again, there's nothing like a good shot of "'shine" and one of C2's rants to get the old blood flowing. /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif And that old hunk, Geno, gave those Chippies a run for their money! You know, horses were acting severly freaked out, the place (including brand new arena) were literaly falling apart.. that's the work of ghosts, right, and not barn owners who sit around all afternoon drinking beer and wondering why their place isn't flourishing, right? *takes out large broom and swats all the stepkids across the head in one large sweep* Learn a lesson anbout alcohol there kiddies?
Lady I ride for is getting rid of her alcoholic partner *another whap to the step kids in case they didn't learn it the first time* and most of her horses.
TwoSox the 18 hh Han/TB has been dead and deadly lame the last three years but I gave him a ride Wednesday and will pick myself off the rocker long enough to ride him again today.
A certain vet who has raised most of Canada's top dollar horses (or however that should be worded) is looking to buy the pink pony.
Big fluffy white Beauty the Samoyed is cuddled at my feet, Issy the Rotti pup at my back, and life is looking fine, except for Gin, who may have to "go". Oh well, can't save em all.
Now excuse me for another few weeks while I go find a new horse.
Squirt

*Squirt sneaks on to the porch carrying some curevo gold under one arm and some spiked lemonade under the other* Pulls up a cushion hugs the dogs and pours everyone a shot. Welcome to COTH everybody!
I hadn't been to the e-search boards in about a year, but I used to sneak onto the porch occasionaly to get some cider and leave the baling twine in it's place. But hey I'm old enough now to be at least on the top steps!
Can I stay on the porch, PLEASE? I promise I'll bring everybody stuff from work, remeber it's a BAR! I'll make cookies? I can hold the ball of twine while you guys knit! PLEASE?
OK, I'll stop sounding desparate. /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

(*SM puts down the Chippie long enough to grab the bottle and boot Squirt off the porch. . .*)
Sorry, kid! You can't drink it till you learn to spell it!
C2, haven't I taught you anything? You know darned well what a "hunker" is. If you get two handsome farm boys side by side, chances are one is "hunker" than the other. That's the one you take home. /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
(*SM takes a swig of Cuervo. . . dissolves into lunatic laughter . . . *)
So tell me . . . is there any way to make the last posts come up first when I log on? I still don't quite have the hang of this site.
JOH

(JOH rolls on Porch floor, being impaled on rusty nails, collecting straw and manure in her hair, laughing until her sides ache)
Oh, BossHoss....whap the step kids just ONE more time for me! /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Love this place!
(JOH crawls back up onto rocker, adjusts support hose, snaps 18 hr. bra back into place and grabs at Schoolmarm's Chippie) How come YOU always get the 'hunker'iest ones, SM? HMMMMMMMM?

Who're you kidding Schoolie? You've got this place figured inside and out!!! http://www.chronofhorse.com/ubb/eek.gif
(PS - the most recently-acted-on thread will always be at the top of the main page. When I open a thread, I hit "end" right away on my keyboard to get to the bottom, or if it's a multi-page thread, click on the last page # right away, at the top of the main page, then hit "end". That's the best you can do, I think /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif)
(*HSM grabs a quilt, "hunkers" down in her rocker, & settles in for the night*)
"hunkers"? YOU be the judge!! LOL!

Okay, okay . . . I get it. There ISN'T an easier way. I can live with that.
(*SM flips the Chippie over her hip . . . he lands in the dust next to HSM . . .SM rises from her rocker, puts a foot on his rump . . . *)
So, JOH, you haven't figured out yet why I get the "hunker" ones, huh? /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Why, I'd've thunk by now you'd have noticed my incredible charisma . . .
my femme fatale quality . . .
my gun pointed at his head . . .
