who rode Polar Bear?
Baltimore (he had a lot!)

anyone remember the name of an Eq horse that Hillary Schlusemeyer had for a while... Shadow something... She won the Maclay at Devon on him in 1993 and then leased him to a girl that now rides jumpers with Leslie. He had an accident on the lunge and was put down. I can't remember his name. He was about 16.3, flat brown, long and lanky

There's a little story there- Kaoru rode with/ worked for Unjin's trainer, who had promised to get Kaoru a nice horse for the finals, since it was her last year. When it got down to the wire, presto, there was Le Purser, fresh from the preliminary jumpers, braided up and trotting his changes. Needless to say, she was not a contender, although she had been 4th the previous year.

She was a really nice girl- does anyone know what she's up to now? I heard she eventually got out of horses.

kd - sorry! Eq. was never my strong point...
I thought Brooke rode Baltimore at one point but I wasn't sure, so I didn't say anything.

You know what's really scary? I used to show against Hillary and Blue Chip and Kristin and Center of Attention, then when I stepped up to the a/o's the next year, I was in the youngers with Anne Braswell and Software. Also, Christy Conard showed my old jr. hunter when we sent her to QHF to be sold. Small world...

The Legacy I'm thinking of is chestnut, and quite old, although I'm not sure if he could be THAT old /infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif I know he was Marley's, because he's retired with the rest of her horses at a friend of mine's barn.

A handful of Acres horses have been named. But there were so many, and some that consistantly got ribbons but might not have won finals.

And definitely when it comes to eq, eventually the horse name fades but you remember the riders.

May. 2, 2002, 04:49 AM
So I guess no one remembers who Bert was riding the year he won the Medal Finals? A few hints, the horse was grey, and was very successful in the juniors and the equitation at the time. I'm almost sure he was a large junior.

Amy had Clark first, the Mary, then Halley.

Danielle rode Night Fox in the minis and them maybe the big eqs, Jeannine Aronica leased him for awhile, not sure if Merry Oswald ever rode him.

Night Fox ended up at Quiet Hill for a long while, Jennifer Trice bought him but he also won classes with pretty much every QHF rider. I won one of my USET's on him.

The other rider for Flamingo- as a jr jumper was Candayce Schlom

Here's a very tough one - Slick N A Promise

Anyone remember Fleet Street? Anna Prendegrast bought him but I think he won one of the finals with someone, anyone remember who?

Slick was a tall, lanky black horse that was perfect for the rider who finally bought him. However, I think he was killed in one of the barn fires last year. That name is pretty unique so I figured it had to be the same.

Lily, its a good guess but you're right, too easy. Slick wasn't quite the horse for Hilly either... nice horse but not super fancy. He was fun for the right rider.

I honestly don't remember the girl's full name... Katherine --- she was tall and lanky like Hillary. Her name will come to me, I have a picture of all of us at home and there's a slim chance I wrote her name down somewhere...

I have to say that these threads are not only fun but they open the doors to reminiscing. Last night I started reading my old journals. Intentionally to get more junior hunter and pony names but instead I started at the very beginning of my riding career and so far its very entertaining. I really wanted the horse, Lysander, who ended up being terribly lame. The saddest thing is that he was on and off lame the whole time before I bought him!

Oh well

Wonderful horse- Emerald Bay. Anyone know who won the Medal Finals on him and who he ended his career with? This goes back a ways. His last junior rider had custom license plates with his nickname on them, Eli. He also had a lot of success in the open speed division. His final junior rider won two open speed classes at Lake Placid on him, against all the pros. He then walked over to the hunter ring and did the Maclay flat phase. He was one in a million!

Missy discovered Harley in Canada and she owned him herself when Kelley had him for the Finals. I am sure Missy's other students also rode him, and he was eventually sold to Sheila Burke's little sister, who's first name escapes me. She did not pursue the equitation, and went on to jumpers, so Harley kind of faded into the background. I've always wondered what happened to him.

Four Wins - Leslie Fishback won a Finals on him, also a Missy horse.

Grafstern - Megan Johnstone? and Abigail Dachs

Keratin - Missy horse, Meredith Taylor and others, had a neuro problem that made backing up difficult for him

Merlin - yes the big gray jumper. He did some equitation before Kathleen Burke decided not to do eq anymore and then went to the jumpers fulltime.

Charge A Count was around for a long time, but was not as old as you think. He carried Cara Beigel to a 4th in the Medal Finals when she was only 14 and he was only 5. I think the year was 1978 or so.

That horse was born knowing everything. Ronnie and Sue wanted me to buy him as an A/O horse. But, during bug season, he had to show with a stocking over his nose. I thought that looked stupid, so, for the same price, I bought a horse named Protocol instead (and NOT the one owned by Marley Goodman. Mine was destined for obscurity...) Oh well..... The eq. world was a better place for my silly decision.

Is Four Wins' barn name Gremmy (Gremmie)? If so, my friend Katie Battison rode him.

After winning with Kelley Farmer, Harley was sold to Jamie Krauss and went lame in the middle of the year. She rode a different horse at Medal Finals. She qualified for the 2nd round and in either that round or the work off she cantered in on Scout! I guess something happened to the horse she was riding and the steward allowed her to have another horse. Whoever was riding Scout that year didn't make it to that round, so I guess he was the choice. She rode very well. Can you imagine having that kind of crisis and having enough money to go up to Missy Clark and say, "How much for Scout for 10 jumps?" This was the same year that I think Amanda Forte was reserve at medal finals (though in the first round she cross cantered an entire corner -- tight 180 past the ingate to an aiken jump across the short side of the ring) on Northern Magic.

Katie sure did have Bear.

She had:
Kokomo - Short stirrup
George - Children's Hunter/Eq 12 -14
Tide - Same
Tuna - lease CHJA Finals
Ladies First -- 15 - 17/Some big eq
Gremmie -- lease Missy Clark
Bob -- leased(or some other future successful eq horse in his first year doing the eq - can't remember which one) - in FL, big eq
Bear -- Children's Jumpers/NE and CHJA Finals

Then she leased some horses from Acres and did Medal Finals, NE Finals (ribbon -- 6th or 7th). I don't know their names.

I don't know all the horses show names!
