well, having just returned from my second day as groom/photographer at Culpeper, dodging grey ponies and physcotic WB's, I'd say I have a decent number of pictures. I am currently at the other half of CorLin PROductions house (corie's for those of you who are slow! lol....j/k) and I don't have my photo editor w/ me.

sorry for the wait...here they are! remember, copyright CorLin PROductions!

I went on Saturday and saw VTRider and the perfect Peeeeekkkkaaaaaay! Others were Mizz Wade and the Sloop Woody Wade, along with several of the lovely ponies from Cavallo as well.

Kennett Square, Duffy (and Gramento), Moesha, Fairweather, Miniwelsh (and Monty) and Miss Xani, too. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

We were assembled to celebrate the 15th birthday of Moesha's wonderful horse, Max.

I missed MargaretF but did see the lovely Phyllis in her stall.

Culpeper, it would seem, never dries out. Three days of Thunderstorms in a row has the grounds awash in muck and mud although the footing in the rings seemed fine.

I have pics of Peeeeekkkkkaaaaayyyyy, Gramento and Woody Wade but will not be posting until tomorrow when I can do it easily from work.

I didn't even leave the house this weekend except for Friday afternoon, what gross weather! Piaffeprincess I posted on an older topic that I saw your new house, it's a beautiful place! Can't wait to see pics. I saw on the HITS website that your "other half" got 2nd in the Children's Jumpers, tell her I said congrats!

Culpeper alternated between roasting hot and pouring down rain with thunder and lightning for the fun of it.... Every year I swear I'm not going back but somehow I always end up there. I noticed this year that things have gotten somewhat shabbier - no working PA system in the back barns (absolutely no way to know what was going on except walk to the rings), lots of damage to the barns, lack of water pressure, hoses, and working spiquots, a major lack of working electrical outlets in the barns, and what's with the piles of manure out in the field?! There were plenty of entries so they have to be making a bit of money - how about putting it back into the facility?

I hope everyone did well - I'm sorry I didn't get to meet anyone and see their horses go - too many of my own to deal with and trips up and down Route 29 to move horses around.

I pretty much sucked, again, it was rails, misses or retardedness on my part. My horse was very good however. I did see a ton of COTH people and spent some quality time with Duffy's daughter Toria and her pony Mini (awwwwww). We left at 10:30 this morning, I was so happy to get out of there it was so muddy, so gross and so rainy. Luckily thanks to our trust golf cart we made it through just fine and it got washed off after going 60 mph in the rain on an open trailer all the way home. Oh well, off to Lexington next week!

Well, I made it back

Roo and I had a bit of a disagreement in the bit issue but hey we didnt ever stop at one fence and we did ok i guess. other than the fact that SUNDAY I COULDNT SEE THE NUMBER 2 ON FENCE TWO AND IT HAD THE #10 ON IT AND I WENT OFF COURSE i was ok with everything went ok with me lol...thanks again

Due to budget cuts, the light at the end of the tunnel has been cut off, sorry folks!!

What a gross weekend!!! Without golf carts, I don't know how people made it around!!! Ponyland was under water at the one end ALL weekend!! My one pony father actually took a shovel out there and helped to remove Lake Culpeper from the ring before HIS child showed!! Though, to no avail!! Spring horse showing keeps you humble!! Ha Ha!

Half of the people didn't leave until this morning b/c they couldn't get out last night. I know that a bunch of those big rigs in the back field couldn't get out last night.

Ring 3 and its environs were truly gross by Sunday. The mud kept sucking my shoes right off and the rain never stopped. There is absolutely no place within reasonable viewing distance of Ring 3 to get under cover; the kid was soaking wet; the horse was drenched; all the tack is STILL wet. The horse's raincoat got soaked outside AND inside. And there were 36 younger children's hunters including a huge contingent from Quebec. It was the show that would not end. (But, despite it all, we had a very good time.)

Boy, all the slipped-back legs, roached backs, flying elbows, and crappy releases are giving me HOPE that I can someday compete at the "A" level! /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif That said, I could never come close to the great positions a few of these riders do have. /infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

The grey trotting. I'd love to find a horse who looks just like that.

p.s.- One particular rider position gave me a good chuckle-- a little girl (in the obligatory ribbon-tied, braided pigtails) doing her best praying mantis impression (complete with over-exaggerated crest release) atop her equally adorable pony. Not sure what frame that was.

Love the "pretty grey trot" picture- definitely my favourite.

Out of curiosity, what kind of camera are you using? I'm thinking an auto SLR would give you a bit more crispness in a lot of the action shots.

Now it all becomes clear- those digital cameras just don't cut it for most action shots, unless you're in incredibly bright weather. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I use one for yearbook and I find it to be way more trouble than it's worth.

I love the horse show photography though. I'd love to get into something like that, but I'm usually too busy showing myself.

Let's see the "bay jumper" like #155 and #156 is my trainer on her Low Prelim horse, Sulu Rose and Onira. Watch that horse he showed in 25 classes in Ocala and was in the primary colors in 23 of those classes or didn't place at all.

I think #108 is my trainer's daughter, Marie Farley and her pony First Class. They show in pony jumpers. It's hard to tell though, my computer doesn't show up pictures very well.

I saw you all at jumper ring one on Friday! Roo is a cool horse - reminds me of my horse.

I'm pretty sure that Maggie Maclary didn't show at Culpeper, so I don't think the bay pony is her's.

But the #187 shot is Carolina's Small Talk and Kori Pickett I think.

And the small chestnut pony w/ a white stripe is Princess Caroline.

PS. I love the butt shots /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif And Christina M. & her grey trotting is very nice too. Do you sell your pics? Obviously I wouldn't buy one of someone else, but just curious if you do this for profit, fun, or both I guess.

(But, despite it all, we had a very good time.)

i know! it was SO muddy! ALL my stuff is covered! and my poor poor britches.... they will never be the same! And to add to it all, the photographer didnt take pics of ring 3! /infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
I wanted a picture of me in the state line! Im so proud about winning that class! (well i went and bought the video of it, which i guess is better lol) but i still wanted a picture!

and i also want a pic of me with my chestnut! It was my first show with him! oh well, i have lexington to get some!

Actually, it depends on the digital camera. I used to have a Sony Mavica FD-88, and I did have trouble catching clear jumping shots except in the bright sunshine. So I upgraded to a Sony Mavica CD-300, which allows me to set the shutter speed up to 1/1000 sec. I shoot most of my jumping shots at 1/800 sec, and find that it's fine.

The link below shows a shot I took at Galway Downs of my friend Laura and her horse Brae at the Ian Stark clinic earlier this year. Not bad clarity for a digital camera, I'd say ;-)

(Of course, there are also the multi-thousand $$ professional digital camera backs... but if you'd got that much spare change, there's always more tack to be bought!)

You think thats good? Take those mountains, cut them out, and put a HUMUNGO giant grass field with oak and pepper trees all around...and you have The Oaks...which is very, very close to Galway Downs...
