I hate to be so...unsubtle here...but hello: New Hampshire!! You are not truly a state w/o a 2 word name..out goes Virginia and Calif. Now, NY and NM could have had an almost fighting chance, but I got here first...
So NH it is(like we didn't know it all along..).

AAJumper runs up next to Beezer, rushing past Duffy and Becca. In her hand is the CA Clique official flag, complete with pictures of gold plated curb chains, beach chairs, avocados, and a giant Koi in the center. With Beezer's help, AAJumper thrusts the flag into the ground of the Off Course Forum.
Beezer, you have made the clique proud.

Lexinator launches herself from the back of a very small HAIRYequine over the Californians, ripping out their flag and replacing it with the NH clique flag - a horsehair covered, mudstreaked NHH&JA banner.
Take that! You are not worthy of being the winner if you live somewhere where you are not in the process of shedding 100 lbs of hair from every horse in your barn!

What was that great Christine Lahti line from the Golden Globes, when she was late to make her acceptance speech?
"I was in the bathroom, Mom!"
Actually, I went to the California Adventure (aka
"Disneyland: The Annex"). Note to potential tourists: Don't bother, unless you have a penchant for endless food stands and lots of souvenir shops. But it was clean and purdy! And it had a great rollercoaster, which, I might add, brought to mind the last time I jumped Lovely Spotted Beast around a grass course. /infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

I know you all missed me terribly...
Merry- I should have told you not to bother...The New Adventure place sucks. I was at a conference there for work and some of the Disney people there spoke. They basically said that the new park was designed to make money. I always thought that Disneyland was there for my pur fun and enjoyment and to bring magic into the world when these days there is so little. I can never look at Mickey the same way...especially because I'll forever fear him diving into my pocket to pull out the last few bucks from a horse poor recent college grad.
On a good note, GE (my company) powered that REALLY fun roller coaster!

No snub intended. I lived in DC for a while, and I boarded in Md., so I know how . . . tenacious those VA riders can be. Sometimes ya just GOTTA elbow them out of the way. (No offense, Duffy.)
I also have lived in VT, on the NH border (in Brattleboro), so I know how you NH-ers are: You are non-agressive. No need to elbow you out of the way. I've been there a couple of times. Beautiful countryside. But what can I say about a place that charges $75. for a freakin' ham?
Which reminds me of an old pig joke...
One day this traveling salesman gets lost and ventures into a Virginia farm to ask directions. While he's speaking to the old farmer he notices a three-legged pig wandering around the barnyard.
"Excuse me," he says, "but what's with the three-legged pig?'
The farmer takes a deep breath and says, "Well, that there's a very special pig. That pig is imported from overseas, where it saved my son's life. Yup, that there pig, when the fightin' broke out, dragged my son to safety. And for that, that there pig was awarded the Medal of Honor, and my son branged him home."
"Well, that's all very amazing," the salesman said, "but it still doesn't explain why the pig has only three legs."
The farmer looked appalled. "Well, heck, you don't eat a pig like that all at once!"

Yes Beezer, having pulled their chairs closer, it is a wonderful invention. A real blessing for those of us with brakeless mares. Brad Goldstein has them in his traveling tack shop, which for the life of me, I can't remember the name of. Rusty, do you? They work like a hackamore, nose piece in sheepskin, thin narrow bit, with curb chain. They work on the strongest of critters, says wty, remembering her own brush with death. Nothing like those TB mares on a power trip.
He usually is at Showpark, then will probably head for the Oaks.
Pig jokes Merry? Must be nerves, wty makes note, let her tell them......... /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Elizabeth, the bump looked pretty much the same as yesterday....maybe slightly smaller. Viva California....
America has engaged in some finger wagging lately because California
doesn't have enough electricity to meet its needs. The rest of the
country (including George W. Bush's energy secretary Spencer Abraham,
who wants Californians to suffer through blackouts as justification for
drilling for oil in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge) seems to
be just fine with letting Californians dangle in the breeze without
enough power to meet their needs. They laugh at Californians'
frivolity.
Well, everybody. Here's how it really is:
California ranks 48th in the nation in power consumed per person.
California grows more than half the nation's fruit, nuts and vegetables.
We're keeping them. We need something to eat when the power goes out.
We grow 99 percent or more of the nation's almonds, artichokes, dates,
figs, kiwifruit, olives, persimmons, pistachios, prunes, raisins and
walnuts.
Hope you won't miss them.
California is the nation's number one dairy state. We're keeping our
dairy products. We'll need plenty of fresh ones since our refrigerators
can't be relied upon. Got milk?
We Californians are gonna keep all our high-tech software in state.
Silicon Valley is ours, after all. Without enough electricity, which
you're apparently keeping for yourselves, we just plain don't have
enough software to spare. We're keeping all our airplanes. California
builds a good percentage of the commercial airliners available to fly
you people to where you want to go. When yours wear out, you'd better
hope Boeing's Washington plant can keep you supplied. There isn't
enough electricity here to allow us to export any more planes than we
need ourselves. And while we're at it, we're keeping all our high- tech
aerospace stuff, too, like the sophisticated weapons systems that let
you sleep at night, not worried you might wake up under the rule of some
foreign kook.
Oh, yeah, and if you want to make a long-distance call, remember where
the satellite components and tracking systems come from.
Maybe you could get back in the habit of writing letters.
Want to see a blockbuster movie this weekend? Come to California.
We make them here. Since we'll now have to make them with our own
electricity, we're keeping them. Even if we shot them somewhere else,
the labs, printing facilities, editing facilities, and sound facilities
are all here.
Want some nice domestic wine? We produce over 17 million gallons per
year. We'll need all of it to drown our sorrows when we think about the
fact that no matter how many California products we export to make the
rest of America's lives better, America can't see its way clear to help
us out with a little electricity. You can no longer have any of our
wine.
You all complain that we don't build enough power plants. Well, you
don't grow enough food, write enough software, make enough movies, build
enough airplanes and defense systems or make enough wine.
This is your last warning, America. Lighten (us) up before it's too
late.
Love, The Californians

Bravo, Wty! Even though the music is playing and they're threatening to cut to a commercial, you kept up with your politically themed acceptance speech. To heck with Julia Roberts!

And thanks for worrying about me, guys. I'm o.k. I suspect I am halfway done with moving my office stuff and computer into the extra bedroom.
elizabeth sighs, waves, gives a wan smile, and crawls back under the desk. The CA clique watches in as she crawls deep into the wirey mass. Then they watch with horror as the wires seem to close around her and suck her in. Everyone stands in stunned silence for a moment until Merry chirps up "Well, let's go begin building our wall around California, shall we? Oh, but first, let's stop by the farm. QHSM finally made the chickie-pippy birthday cake."

Mr. Beezer has no clue about where they go. /infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif Which is not unusual for Mr. Beezer. Give the man an electrical cord and he is lost. /infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif
Now, about that chicky-pippy cake ... Beezer believes that she has pointed this out before, but this is where she and Merry firmly part company on the subject of QHSM's baking skills. In a word: ICK. Merry can eat the whole darned thing. /infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

Merry is the name of Merry's cute little schnauzer ... who was named Merry because Mr. Merry bought the pooch for the human Merry for Christmas one year ... so the real Merry was named that in honor of a Merry Christmas.
Beezer would like to point out that on those rare occasions when the canine Merry is allowed to go someplace other than the house or the groomers and has visited QHSM while the terrieristas were there ... well, let's just say it was no match. CA clique: I have found them.
At some teenage hoochie store in the mall in Van Nuys. . . .
My car needed to be in the mechanic's shop for seven hours today, so the mechanic dropped me off at the mall. While wandering around (for SEVEN hours), I wandered into some teen-ish store. They had - get this - halter tops with HORSES on them.
I favored the black one with the white spotted appys on them. There were, however, pink ones with brown horses and white ones with gold horses.
Please place your orders by next Friday, and I will go pick them up. (Oh, they are polyesterish, and they have no built-in bras. So they might be a bit "see-through." Perhaps nobody but coreene should order the white one. . . . )

Well, I see you're settling right in to California!
What sort of pants does one wear with a polyester, horsey print halter top? /infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif I must ask, since this "hoochie wear" is foreign to me. I can't seem to break free of the Land's End catalog.

Merry, any real hoochie mama knows that you wear skin tight hip hugger pants (polyester blend a plus) with a slight bell bottom...you know, retro is in and all that. Then you need some open toe sandals...the clunkier the better, with a big @ss heel. If you need further information, just watch an episode of Ricki Lake...preferably with title such as "I wanna tell my friend that you are not all that, you wanna-be hoochie mama!!!!!!" /infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

AAJumper - you go girl! That was exactly right.
Merry is frantically dialing the Land's End 1-800 number: "Uhm, hi. I need the appropriate slacks to wear with my hoochie-mama halter top. . . . Uhm, courderoy slacks? Maybe. Do they hug my hips? I should order a size too small? O.k. Oh, and I need sandals with a big a&s heel. You don't have those? You only have canvas boat shoes? Well, close enough, I guess."
Can't you see it now, AAJumper? When Merry and Hamster finally make it to their AHSA shows, the CA clique can line up on the rail in their hoochie-mama garb and chant "Go Merry. Go Ricki. Go Merry. Go Ricki. Woo Woo Woo Woo." If Hammie messes up, we can tell him "Poof, be gone." (Isn't that what they always say on the Ricki Lake show?)
I wonder if we can get QHSM to wear a halter top. . . .

Suave, I believe "hoochie mama" is akin to our generation's term for a "loose young woman". /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif You know, the one that all the football players dated behind their cheerleader-girlfriends' backs?
Not that I would know personally, since I neither met a high school football player nor had a DATE in high school! /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
As for you guys cheering me on in our, ahem, "uniforms": yeah, right, that sort of look will mesh right along with my glaringly inappropriate behavior at rated shows, such as displaying my mismatched show trunk and the fact that I braid my own horse. /infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

Oh my, does that bring back long ago memories of being relegated to the back side of the barn row when I arrived with my lovingly made by hand, but in the wrong colors, tack trunk. In the late 70s or early 80s, the fantastic tackroom presentations aren't what they are today.
But, having my priorities all wrong then, the very first thing I lusted after was a Warner's trunk in the proper barn colors and with the accepted initials format and logo. That made my show season, regardless of how the horses did. /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Ah yes, being relegated to the end of the shed row because my Warner's trunk didn't match the stable's colors! One year at Del Mar, Jeanne Stevens, Kathy Capella and I were all showing Ammy Owner (against each other, but we all had a blast!) and none of our trunks matched Russell Stewart's stuff. So we were shoved to the end of the row. Ha! The three of us won the most ribbons! (Post-Bushkin era, I must admit). /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Awwwwww......thanks guys. I work at a family owned and run engineering firm, and it is really small....and getting smaller. The son, who has a PhD left 6 months ago to do research at Berkeley. Well, things have been falling apart ever since (he was in charge before). There is no direction and no guidance here. They hired a guy to be Director of Engineering, and he has created a mess in the few months he has been here. He is old and not from around here, which means I have 2 strikes against me already working with him because I am young (relatively speaking...I am 31 and have had my engineering license for 4 years already and 10 years of experience) and a female. So of course he is constantly challenging everything I do or say, with no foundation for his arguments. Many times he is flat out wrong and I am right...other times he just wants things done his way, even though my way is also correct. But anyway, his last day is Friday, fortunately.
However, the owner here should be retired...he is just not capable of managing people at the level that we need to be managed. So he ends up giving me work to do that I cannot do for a multitude of reasons, which I will not get into, but basically I have nothing to do. So I am sitting here bored stiff, but yet being told to do stuff that cannot be done because other stuff has to be done before I can do my part. I know that is confusing. I had this circular arguement with the owner yesterday morning about an issue...he says do ABC, and I say we need to do DEF first, and he says to do this we need your input, so I say okay we need to at least do D in this way, and he says oh, we cannot do D. /infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif Well then why did you bother asking me????? Then he says we really need to get ABC done. /infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif At which point I walked out of his office, saying I cannot work here anymore (they are insane, really they are), and get my stuff, and he follows me begging me to stay. /infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif
So now I'm sitting here, reading message boards, and pretending to work. Yay.

A/A you're young and enthusiastic, well not right now, but how bout you running the company? Could you do that? Then maybe they might be able to move into the 21st century. Also, you could hire people who would help build, rather than be sedentary lards. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Would the owner even consider doing something like that? Cause I would have my resumes ready to roll otherwise. It doesn't sound like things will change enough to make it work.

Wtywmn, they would like for me to run the company, but I don't want to. I tried being project manager of a project, but the owner would attend meetings and promise things to the client that totally went against the schedule that I had made for the work. So I was just this name with a title for someone to call and yell at, without any real power. So I said forget it, I am not going to be project manager.
But yeah, my resume is updated and posted on Monster.com. I've already got some responses. I just can't bear the thought of a long commute though. Yuck! /infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I won't be going to Tahoe...if I go there I might have bad flashbacks of the time I visited Minden, NV (the REAL home of the Tahoe show) when my husband made me go with him to get Bultaco parts (a vintage Spanish motorcycle). UGH! /infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif
Anyway, no one from my barn would want to go besides my friend and I because we are the only ones who have trailers, and the cost would be too much for the others. Also, I am not interested in making that haul because the roads to get there aren't easy to haul on. Specifically, I'm thinking of the 395 which is the most direct route, and it gets pretty mountainous after Mammoth. /infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

Don't bother to go to Tahoe unless you're really "into" it! Yes, it's in Minden. It's a long ways from Tahoe, especially in atmosphere. Now, a show in Tahoe, maybe down the street from the lakefront or near the strip might be fun, but Minden??? And yes, I heard the drive was not enjoyable with a horse trailer.

Ok so Tahoe won't work out. We should probably just pick some bar someplace /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Bultaco parts? You don't find those everywhere /infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif Which reminds me of a story...I used to date this really cute (he's probably fat, bald and dissipated now) guy whose idea of fun was to go to the Home depot story and look at tools. For my birthday, he took me out to dinner and then we went there. Was I swept off my feet or what /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif It musta been the sex /infopop/emoticons/icon_redface.gif

On behalf of the English cliquers (we are many but subtle, which befits us), I say do not overlook us!
In true Oscar form, we are again strong contenders. I mean, c'mon, even MADONNA wants to be one of us, (she often tries on her accent but still has trouble with the crisp vowels).
And we don't need to visit some pseudo-Miss Princess shop, we've got our own REAL princesses here thank you very much so when I need a diamond tiara I simply ask to borrow the Crown Jewels.
And this is the last time I will remind everyone here: Drooling over pictures of Prince William will acheive NOTHING expect dehydration, unless any of you can prove you have aristocratic blood running through your veins, His Young and Tender Royal Highness will not give any of you a second glance!!
P.S. Do not dare to bring up the name of Liz Hurley, she is an embarrassment to us all. Her passport was declared null and void as soon as she stepped on that plane to LA.

Dear Suave,
I see that you live in Corona del Mar. That is very fancy. You seem not to have told us that previously.
I am duly impressed, and I write to tell you that I am currently packing my bags for my impending move to your house. I would like the guest bedroom with the view of the ocean, please.
Many thanks in advance.
Best regards,

Wty, I'll definitely be there for the Grand Prix Sunday afternoon (6/24) with my monogrammed COTH ballcap. Maybe you can leave that piece of heaven that you live in, and join us!!! /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
So, how did your racehorsies do today? I got two firsts (Bob Baffert, and Millenium Wind), a 2nd (Monarchos) and a 3rd (Dollar Bill), so I'm pretty happy....

elizabeth, what you need to do is hire yourself out as a Newport Beach nanny... I mean, "governess." You know, that whole Mary Poppins thing. Then you get to drive the (older) Mercedes, use the family's Balboa Bay Club membership and shop the deli at La Cave for the kids' sandwich fixin's. /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
Now, as for horse shows...Beezer and I be game! Toss out a reasonably middle-level horse show (state fair?) with a good baby green hunter/Ad. Am. hunter division, and a low amateur hunter division, and we might consider that. Nothing like taking the 2 sisters, their prima donna horses and the Jack Russells on the road!

Hey, I went to the Portola sight. Just where exactly is Portola? Do they have baby green hunters and low A/A jumpers? Is this a mega-A show?

Last year I went to a fun Gambler's Choice class, and a Hunter Classic where a pro rode the first round, and an amateur the second round, as well as the Grand Prix. I wish they would print out their class list on the website!! I'm going to call to see if I can get a prizelist.
Looking at my program from last year, they didn't have a baby green division. They had 3 A/A jumper classes, level 3 (3'3 - 3'6). It's A rated, and they have 2 hunter rings, a jumper ring, and the GP ring. It's a big facility, and has a great location amidst rolling hills and oak trees.
John French will definitely be there -- maybe I'll get to see his best buddy Ex-T in action as well, Suave???? /infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

No chickie pippies, Merry. I'm bringing the cake to dinner with the family of a new potential beau, and I'm trying to keep the angel food cake traditional. I want them to fall under the false belief that I am normal. . . .
Speaking of chickie pippies, I have some PEEPS in my office at work, and I offered them to a friend of mine on Thursday, but I referred to them accidentally as "chickie pippies." Needless to say, she had NO idea WHAT I was talking about. How mortifying. (Peeps, elizabeth, they are peeps!!)
One last thing: How does one get an angel food cake out of the tube pan without ruining it?? I need HELP!!!!
elizabeth
Apr. 15, 2001, 07:16 AM
oh, and merry, please take no offense regarding my rejection of your chickie pippie suggestion on the angel food cake. i must say, in general, i agree with your chickie pippie fondness.
Actually, i spent a good part of last week driving around inland California, looking for your ranch. After we were all made aware that the chickie pippie cake did indeed exist, as QHSM had come through, i got so hungry for a slice that i couldn't STAND it. I was intending to show up at the door of the ranch and ask for a piece. I figured I would just tell QHSM that "Merry. . . I mean, Cindy. . . invited me over for some cake." (I wouldn't want QHSM to think that the schnauzer (sp?) was inviting people over.) Anyway, after three days of circling around near Anaheim, Pomona, and Cathederal City, I gave up. Nobody I stopped on the streets of any of those town knew where "Merry's Ranch" was. . . . <<sigh>>

Here I am, older than dirt, and I just ate my first PEEP ever. I was having Easter Dinner at the old folks home with my older than rock aunt and uncle, and the table decorations were PEEPs on jellybean eggs.
All the peeps had two white marshmellow spots where the wings should be. Is this Peep normal, or did the evil employees of the old folks home dewing them so they would fit in the baskets, and so they could create an awesome new culinary delight, Hot Peep Wings with Roquefort dressing?
Remember that I have never before been so close to a Peep. But I am very partial to the Zachery's real dark chocolate covered marshmallow eggs in the egg crate. In fact, tomorrow morning I shall be waiting for WallyWorld to open, so I can fill my freezer with discount eggs.
Forgive me for breaking into the California thread again, but that poor peep made me do it.

Suave, I only ate 2 bunny peeps. The others looked so sad at the loss of their comrades, that I just couldn't eat any more. The Cadbury eggs are a whole different story though...I've savoring one as I type. BTW, I was skimming through an old copy of Show Circuit, and I saw the pics of you and your daughter, congratulating you on your new horses. When I had looked at the pic of your daughter on her horse online, I thought it looked familiar...now I know why!!! My trainer had a few pages in that issue too (from last spring)...I'm in there on my old horse, and Cypress is in there w/her old owner.
So how is the footing at Pebble Beach? I heard it wasn't so good a few years back. I'm game for going, but I doubt anyone at my barn is, again because of the trailering expense. We'll probably go to Blenheim instead. I'm still disappointed that they did away with the unlimited grass warm up area!!! /infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

SuaveReno laments that there is no Golf Cart nor Scooter division shown. Since these are new divisions (like Baby Green was once a new division, they wouldn't have shown up in the 2000 prize list). But, we can rest assured that as very popular divisions, they will show up on the 2001 prize list. /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
I have heard complaints about the footing in years past, but I do believe they have worked hard to improve it. Has it improved? I don't know, but check with someone who actually showed there last year. /infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Speaking of Pebble, I'm not sure how the footing is there as this would be our first time. We are going to a small regional show this weekend to practice our new seat and hands. I have a girlfriend whose a HS photographer who is coming to take pics of me. Maybe it will even show a release.
Funny Story about the Typo Circuit, AAJumper, I just happened to show up at the barn at the same time they were taking the other pictures of the other kids for the magazine. My ex-trainer didn't even bother to mention to the rest of us peons that this was going to be happening /infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif As a results many of the Mom's were disappointed that their daughter's were not asked to participate but only a selectd few (which we were not ones) I demanded that they take pics of my daughter and I. Wow...the ex-T sounds like a real winner. /infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif The type that really knows how to keep clients around. /infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif How rude of her.
As for Blenheim, I think we are supposed to go sometime around July 21st. Hopefully people at the barn won't flake on going. We're supposed to go to Ride America the last week of June. I hope that materializes as well. We are going to Memorial Day Classic at LAEC for sure though. We may do one day of the Gold Coast the week before as well, but I'm not positive.
Speaking of a new seat and hands...my position has been changed recently, and it feels so awkward!!! Of course I was told that if it doesn't feel awkward at this point, that I am reverting back to my old position, which is not good. But I swear, I feel like a duck! Oh well, it will come all in good time, and eventually the new position will feel normal!

vineyridge, you're welcome to show up here anytime! We could use some east coast input. You know, so we can keep track of how the truly cultured huntseat riders dress and perform.
Thanks for the Pebble Beach list!Cool, man, baby greens, A/A 41 & over and "pre-adult" jumpers (whatever that is). /infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif My sister certainly behaves sometimes like a pre-adult! /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Truly, we shall have to get a prize list.
Suave, Suave, Suave... /infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif So you mean you and the lovely daughter weren't on Ex-T's "A" list even when you were in the barn? So it was like, "No dear, we don't want you in the photo. We don't want to advertise that you ride in this barn"???
Maybe we should offer a new perpetual trophy: The Hack and Whack-Attack Trophy. It could be sort of a jousting class, where your ex-trainer could be lashed to a hitching post in the center of the show ring, then you enter on your best under saddle horse at the hand gallop and see how much damage you can do with a riding crop in three passes. /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Wtywmn, Suave, and Beezer - the dinner was a HUGE success! Thanks for the curb jingling! I suspect that made all the difference, b/c the angle food cake got left behind (it collapsed and was pathetic looking - I brought home-baked Italian pastry (pastery?) instead).
So, Beezer, to assuage your need to hear about my romantic life (ok - I'm paraphrasing you - AND I want to talk about it), here we go: I met this guy the first or second weekend after I moved her to LA in October. We met at church. He has always been wonderful to me - sweet, kind, interested in my life, chivalrous, etc. However, I have always been dating the small *#&*, bad-decorating, pimple-backed mama's boy, so this new churchy-guy never had a chance.
One night, though, he had a party, and he invited me. While he was pouring me a drink, he put his arm around me, and, I swear, the heavens opened up and the stars began shooting. There were sparks! Oh my gosh, I could have powered six or eight sections of the LA power grid with the sparks. Even though it was an innocent thing, I was . . . oh, FLOATING ON AIR.
After that, I LIVED for church and church functions so that I could see him. We chatted at the functions, once or twice a week, and it seemed like he was interested, though he never asked me out. That said, at every function, he HAPPENED to be sitting next to me! (He did that - I never sat next to HIM! That would be pushy!) Then this past week he called me . . . just to chat. . . for an HOUR!! He then invited me to dinner at his house with his parents and some friends for Easter (today).
I was on the fence about whether to go, and, quite frankly, whether he "liked me," but all my friends said I should go. As you know, I DID go, and it was GREAT. I chatted with his mom and his friends, and I had a wonderful time.
And his best friend, who had too much to drink, came up to me and said "You are Elizabeth - right?" To which I said "Yes, I am. But I don't think we've met." To which he said "I'm potential-new-beau's best friend. Of course I know who you are." Wow. I guess that means potential new beau has been talking about me. . . .
Let's keep those curb chains jingling!!

Way to go, Elizabeth! Sounds promising...
Merry, a little more info on Pebble. This year's dates: Classic I - July 24-29, Classic II - July 31-August 5. Can only give you info based on year's past. Show runs 5 rings, 3 hunter rings on grass, 2 jumper rings on sand. Tim Postel at Pebble is constantly working on the footing, it's an ongoing thing with him. The prize list is not out yet but should be soon, I have no reason to believe it will be significantly different from last year.
And Beezer, once at each show with one night's exhibitor party there is a "horse show dog" show. Will it be the crazed knife-weilding Lab or the JRT's? /infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Oh yes Suave, how could anyone miss Misti's lovely decorations? That really looked like the Easter Bunny had gone bonkers, or that Ms. Gooches school of Theatrical Design was put into use. Speaking of Misty's barn...i thought it was kinda cute but... my ex T (last story about her I promise!!!)was telling me about her barn saying I should go over there and have a look (as I was warming up my little yellow scooter)and she absolutely got totally worked up, she got really angry calling it "Fredericks of Hollywood" etc..and went on and on and on, Then she started verbally attacking Misty and went on and on and on. OMG!! As Shakespeare said, "Methinks the lady doth protest too much" /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
I thought her barn had it hands down on originality /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Don't they have a contest on best barn decorations???? /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

So, Suave, I take it Ex-T didn't "get it" that Misti's barn decor was done tongue in cheek? That it was meant as a joke? That it was purposely meant to be borderline offensive? /infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif
Pebble Beach sounds like fun. It's a possibility. I shall base my decision on how the Hambolarama continues to progress in his show ring performances.

Way to go, Elizabeth!! The key question is, does the potential-new-beau-to-be "understand" about the horse thing?? That is the deal-breaker. /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
Weeble ... wait a sec. Re Tim Postel at Pebble, is that the Tim Postel of the Foxfield family? The object of my preteen lust? Is it?? Hey ... he can work my footing ANY TIME! /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Two comments here.
First to Elizabeth: The new prospective beau sounds almost too good to be true. So, go at this slowly. However, from what we're reading, it sounds as if this one may be the real thing. /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
Second to Beezer: I can truly say that, in my opinion, Tim still looks pretty darned good. I don't know what he looked like when you were lusting after him /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif but he can still turn a head.

ahhh, you guys are great. thanks for all of the excited words, and thanks for the advice, Justalurker. Wtywmn, no wedding yet, but start shopping for a jumbo-blender for margaritas for about 150 people, so when the wedding comes, you'll be ready.
Beezer, he lives in Thousand Oaks, and he was all excited to tell me about allll the boarding places within a 20 mile radius. (He actually lives in an equestrian community.) I told him I saw a whole ranch for sale in Cherry Valley for only $400,000 (I told him it as a fact, not to suggest we get married and buy it or anything), and, get this, he said "well, if we move there, it will be a drive for me to get to work every day, . . . but that's o.k."
And after I posted my post here last night, and I put on my pajamas with the horsies on them and got into bed, he called just to see if I got home safely. (And to ask me out for next weekend. Woo hoo!!)
So, now, two important matters:
(1) Does anyone have a picture - old or new - of the trainer over which Beezer is drooling?
(2) Isn't it nice that we don't fight like the other cliques do? We are the kinder, gentler clique!
(elizabeth strolls away humming "cannnnn you feel the looooove tonight, something something something something. . . . it's enough to make kiiiiings and vagabonds. . . . something something something something something.")
P.S. Weeble, for the horse show dog show, don't forget Merry-the-schnauzer. (That's Merry's dog!)
P.S.S. AAJumper, my new-potential-beau said last night that he is having a landscaper come to lay sod. I guess is a seasonal valley thing to be doing. I somehow feel closer to you, AAJumper, now that my new-potential-beau is laying sod just like you and your hubby did!

It is the same guy...are you really drooling like Elizabeth said? I must have missed that confession earlier. But not only is there now a Mr. Beezer, there is a Mrs. Tim and a couple of Timlets.
And as far as Merry - the schnauzer - the more dogs the "Merrier" (get it?) Sorry, couldn't help myself.
One more thing...Elizabeth, where did you get horse pajamas?

Elizabeth, you will be closer to me when you start visiting the new beau frequently...I am right off the freeway on your way to T.O., and not too far away from there. You know, all the locals call Thousand Oaks, T.O. /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Does he live in Lynn Ranch? We looked there when we were shopping for a house, but it was a little too far from my job at the time, which was in downtown LA. And yes, there are many barns within 20 miles of T.O. Heck, there are many barns within 10 miles of T.O. Mine being the most wonderful, of course! /infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif
As for the sod, this had better be a one time deal...I am not doing that ever again!!! We killed our old yard when we put in the pool, thus the need for a whole new lawn. I can't bear the thought of ever having to repeat the sod laying ordeal....aaaahhhhh!!!! /infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

but I'm afraid I won't be much use for East Coast up to the minute fads, fashions, and gossip.
Merry, you ought to check your atlas.
I'm from Mississippi (MS), and the last time I checked both the state and the river were closer to the middle than to the East Coast. I'm only ten miles from the river, which as we all know, drains everything between the Appalachians and the Rockies.
On the other hand, if you would like information and updates from the deepest, darkest Mississippi Delta, home of America's worst poverty and flattest farm land, I will be happy to oblige. We have no horse shows and very few English riders at all. On the other hand, people here gun hunt off horses.

Just don't get Beezer started on how, when we were flying with Queen of Horse Show Moms to Lexington, Kentucky, I stood up in the crowded Delta 747 cabin and peered out the window and exclaimed, "Look, it's the Mississippi!"
Oops. According to the pilot's announcement a moment later, it was the OHIO RIVER. Okay, so I flunked geography.

Merry "confessed" before I could tell the tale!! I swear, people on that plane are STILL talking about the time the skinny blonde from California stood up in the middle of the cabin, leaped over other passengers, and excitedly started yelling and pointing, "Look! LOOK! It's the Mississippi! I always wanted to see the Mississippi!" She even got QHSM going ... the woman who never leaves her seat on a plane, for fear she might somehow be sucked out into the vortex ... this woman, too, jumps from her seat and peers out over the heads of others. /infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif
Meanwhile, Beezer has slunk down in her seat as far as she can slink. She would have slunk farther but QHSM's piles of toys -- magazines, candy, carry-ons ... prevent Beezer from slinking down onto the floor. She tries to get Merry's attention. "Uh, Merry? You STILL haven't seen the Mississippi!" she whispers. She tries to grab Merry as Merry dances by, but Merry is too fast for Beezer. She contemplates throwing something at her. She does manage to snag QHSM, who moves slower than Merry. Finally, Beezer corrals Merry, drags her back to her seat, and corrects the geographical misstep ... and then, at the top of her voice, Merry says, "WHAT?!?! That's NOT the Mississippi??!?!? ... Oh. Sorry. DOH!" /infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Item #2: rusty, I'm so glad you have water. Now, the question must be asked, since this is California: can you actually drink the water?
Item #3: Canter, I can no longer control the Cal Clique. That power deserted me along with my crown. /infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif Blame my demented sister for laying the first claim to the Oscar podium. She rides jumpers, you know. Item #4: Okay, enough about the freakin' Mississippi! I swear, I looked out the window of the plane, and there was a paddlewheel steamboat thingy on the water. And the river twisted and turned. And it was muddy looking. And I knew we'd crossed the Rockies. So... deductive reasoning at work... it was in my mind, the Mississippi. The fact that this error was pointed out to me was, alas, quite embarrassing. "Oh... never mind."(Slinking back down into seat and covering face with tacky in-flight magazine).
Now, flying on a plane with QHSM is a topic ripe for an entire BB thread. /infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

OK. Let me try to settle -- once and fer all, like -- what Beezer meant by the title of this thread. She was merely celebrating the fact that the California clique-ster chicks were the first recognized clique into the new Off Course forum. Which we were.
She was NOT attempting to usurp the claims of any other clique to being the first clique on the whole shebang -- i.e. the great, hallowed BB itself. Granted, she should have included the word "new" in front of the word "forum" in the title line ... but those title lines defy editing. (Besides, Beezer honestly thought she wrote that. She really did. But she admits she was in a hurry to get the thread on the forum because ... well ... she's a jumper rider and time is always of the essence. /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif ) Clear as mud now? /infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Just a thought on the drinkable water, rusty. You probably should investigate the "whole house" water conditioning options -- and I don't mean a water softener. What I mean is one of the systems that actually removes the bad stuff and makes the water "good." They aren't really all that expensive when you consider the price of bottled water and the worry about washing dishes (and you) in the questionable water. Check into it *before* you start building as it has to be cheaper from the 'git go' rather than in retrospect. And, your pipes and fixtures will thank you!
Cheers, Maggi

I have faith that your house will sell. We plunged into abject poverty last year when we bought. These days, Mr. Beezer eyes what the prices are in our neighborhood when a house comes on the market -- which is rare, and they get snapped up immediately -- and starts muttering about "trading up" while Beezer is screaming, "We need to refinance! Look at the interest rates! We have equity now! I COULD BUY A REALLY FANCY HORSE!!!"

I guess I'll add a golf cart bay, so I can be with the in crowd. I was planning on having to do a lot of walking so I would get in shape, but I like the sounds of a golf cart bay. FOr the time being though I will have to have a dump bed installed on the golf cart, so I can clean stalls with it. Looking at the cost of every thing I will be my own barn help for a while. I doubt my daughter will think that it is fun to help mommy after about the first 1/2 hour. /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
