Okay, some of us have only heard stories about those ponies you mention so here goes one for the younger crowd...

Who rode???

Center Of Attention
Farnley Tribute
Lucky Me
Special Effects
Fancy Star
Jordache
Llandfalle Lady Slipper
Glenmore's Best Shot (this one should be easy)
Gucci
Touch Me Too
Brownland's First Light
Brownland's Third Light
Polaris Masterpeice
Polaris Starship
Captain Courageous

that's enough for now... they all had multiple riders so you have a few chances.

Hillcrest Better Than Blue was started by Kimberly Vernell, who rode with Trudy Glefke out of Roads End Farm in Ft. Lauderdale Florida. Kim also started Summer Wind.

TT Howell, Scott and Elise Novick, Red Pfohl, Daryl and Laura Pirtle, Betsy Smith, Cami and Krinci Bonino, Megan Trueman, and Ashley Girl also rode ponies with Trudy in the 1980s.

Ashley Gerl actually rode with Jane Fenessy for her wins at Devon and Washington, and then left to ride with Trudy following losing the hack-off with Gucci at WIHS.

Wonder, I saw this and freaked out...this little game is right up my alley, LOL. I love old school trivia! Although I should be using this time to remember pysch terms, not the riders of ponies from long ago, LOL

Catherine Winter had a grey named Magical Cloud that I rode for her a bunch at home when she was not wanting to ride, or having trouble with him, I and showed him some. Is this the same pony? I never would have thought that I rode a pony that the likes of Alison Firestone and Paige Johnson rode also, except possibly some of the Brownland ponies I rode, and that only b/c Brownland was down the street and I was the "tough kid" that they put on the greenies, buckers, etc.

Well my pony wasn't famous, but she was evil! We showed against many of the larges mentioned in this thread, but she was too little to be really competitive (13.3 vs. 15/15.1 just doesn't work out too well). That, and the fact that she pinned her ears and snapped her teeth at every other animal on the grounds. Trucked around without batting an eye at anything, ever, though. Was a star in the pony eqs.

I remember Buttons & Bows when she was Farnley Reflections & before that Llandefalle Reflections. When she became Buttons she was owned by Lauren Murphy, who rode with Mindy. I think in her green year(when she was a medium) the owner might have been Jen Emmit. One of the Conway girls rode Disco Duck(bay w/lots of white), and Laurie Occhipinti was The Hobbit's rider when he began showing in the US. Originally came from Canada, I believe. Laura Gorman used to show Sand Castle against me in the mediums in 1983, or close to it. Anybody have pics of any of these great ponies? Sure would bring back memories!!

I still have my small pony, he was a grey Welsh gelding named Frosty. I do not know who had him before the previous owners and we got him as a pet for $400. He became my short stirrup pony and was just great, even at 20 years old he could do 2'3". I believe he had a show record before we got him, but I have no idea what his show name would have been. I also think he was a show pony because he was very cranky until we started showing him again and he became a doll.

I also rode at Schandwin when Helen and Catherine owned it. I started riding there in late 1992. I wasn't there very long though. Who was your horse? I may remember you or your horse. I was only 8 years old when I was there and I had just started riding, but I would love to know your horses name, maybe I remember him.

He was a small when he lived at my barn /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Yes, he got bumped up at Washington. Not when we had him. That was an ugly day for a number of ponies. He became a great Children's Hunter for many kids.

I was there watching Washington the day that happened. It was a horrible day.

Some ponies moved up though and kept winning. I still think they should have grandfathered in all ponies to that date and started fresh the next year... maybe that wouldn't have seemed fair but it was so sad to watch those kids go through that.

Then again, Glenmore's Best Shot did much better as a large than a medium... good for some I guess

It definitely was not fair to begin with! They should have done that at the beginning of the new year or at the end of Indoors to count towards the next year. /infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

2)KENNET SQUARE- DID LEIGH SZUBROWSKI ALSO HAVE LINUS?

3)KAHUNA- GEORGINA DID NOT HAVE ESPRESSO (AS FAR AS I KNOW). I WAS LOOKING FOR JODI EINHORN, WHO HAD ESPRESSO WHILE EMMA BLOOMBERG HAD JET SETTER IN LIKE 1989/90/91 I BELIEVE.

4)LILY- EMILY WYRICK WITH BUTTONS... THANK YOU! WAS DIRVING ME NUTS.

5)PONY ROCK- TREASURE HUNT WAS AT FAIRFIELD FOR A LONG WHILE, I THINK, BEFORE CARDILICO GOT HIM... MAYBE A GIRL NAMED COUTRNEY SOMETHING HAD HIM?

6)CHANDA- WAS YOUR BUGLE BOY GREY AND HAVE THERE BEEN TWO BUGLE BOYS?

7)I LOVED SHORTSTACK!

8)KD WELDON- Caitline Venezia started off with some poines that were MEAN stoppers- she was tough as hell though and took it all very well and rode them through it anyway- memory is totally failing me, but i think Hooten Hollows Hooten Annie had a good set of brakes on her when they first started out.

and a pony i had was adorable but the devil incarnate... sachine bell was only one who could get him around for us. stoppers are THE WORST thing ever for a kids who are a little on the wimpy side (ie, ME!)... loved him dearly, but that pony RUINED my confidence.

I think Missy Auchenbach had the grey Bugle Boy, who (cobwebs, cobwebs) was a medium.

With regard to bad ponies, there were a couple in Zone 2. Paragon apparently was a frightful thing as a young one, and there was a large children's pony, Penny Whistle, who was mostly good... except when he dropped his shoulder, spun, and bucked, usually throwing his rider into the ring fence or wall. No one stayed on that pony when he pulled that move.

Can anyone name Penny Whistle's owner/rider, and her successful medium pony and large junior hunter? This should be easy for Zone 2 people who were juniors in the early- to mid-90s.

I am jumping to this conversation. Was your horse "Daring"? I remember him as being a pretty cool horse. I remember she had "Daring" as her jumper and "Bourbon Street" as her hunter before they "disappeared". I don't know anyone who knows what happened to them.

THANKYOU for jumping into this conversation. DARING was my horse! I bought him as a 4 year old in KY, registered as "Port Power" for $3,000 (I called him Sport and never ended up giving him a show name, we just showed under that). He had never raced b/c he barely made it to 15.3. We were both fairly green (rider and horse) and with the help of my very patient trainer took him from being high strung and rushing at fences to 6 years later winning at prelim eventing and childrens jumpers, AND loping quietly around a Childrens Hunter course. He was the absolute BEST! Anyways, I sold him to Catherine when I started applying to colleges and she changed his name to Daring. Do you know how they did together? I was so sad and totally lost touch (except that I'd sneak out of school during lunch and go sit in his stall with him!) Anyways, I'm pretty sure he's retired on Ann Crains farm now.

So sorry this isn't related to ponies of the 80's and 90's, but somebody here knows my baby!!!

I think you got the sivitz's and Hillary Schlusemeyer mixed up. Hillary Schlusemeyer didn't have any siblings and owned Brownland's Little Eenie from her green year and through a few more. Kelly Farmer rode Eenie one year at Pony Finals. Eenie jumped like a million dollars but was bad with her changed and constantly got her tongue over the bit.

What about:

Glenmore Twilight (champion at WIHS in the early 90's)
Glenmore Pinkie

Both were at my barn back in the day. I know Leigh Szubrowski (sp?) owned Pinkie at the time but I'm not sure what happened to either pony. I had heard that Prissy (Glenmore Twilight) was no longer with us but I'm not sure. /infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Twilight was ridden by Amy Boyle in the late 80's.
Pinkie is now owned by the Sassmanshaussen family of Ohio...she's taught several of their boys how to ride and is still trucking around with the youngest one.

Ann changed Sport's name from Daring to Fantastico. His barn name is still Sport. She was still showing him in the low jr/ao stuff last year and small mini prixs, not sure about this year. The last time I saw Catherine show Sport was during the Music City Grand Prix where he said NO WAY at the water jump so Catherine took a solo dive!

I'll answer my own pony ???s
AH CHOO- Elgin Olymphant
MIRACLE- Darren Graziano, Allison Firestone, and Elizabeth Ward when he was named Festive Affair.
MIMOSA- Bret Klingerman, Anastasia Fay, & the Conways
SPECIAL TOUCH- Renee Beradelli
ANIMAL CRACKERS- Whitney Bartichek, Laurie Occhipinti, Niki Shahinian, Jennifer ?
TARRAGON- Tori Profeta

That mystery pony from before, what year did it show. I'm old enough to know a few 70's grays. Zim's Flower Drum? Sweet & Loverly? Purely guesswork, but I bet my sister knows. I'll send her by.

MKM, I remember Sport now. I didn't realize he was the same Sport that Ann Crain has now. Last summer she was doing the mini-prixs and from what I saw she was doing really well. He's really cute, and really fast. I haven't seen him this year though. One of my really good friends works with Ann, and I'll ask her to ask Ann how he is doing. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

THANKS so much you guys!!!! I am seriously going to buy a ticket to go home for memorial day weekend and SEE HIM!
DIXICHICK, please do find out about Sport, and I guess I can get their # in the phone book under Melissa Crain (do you know her dad's name or if he lives with them?) THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU.
ya'll don't understand how much this horse means to me as he was the first and only horse that I really brought along from nothing to something. And yes, he is FAST! (Northern Dancer is his grandaddy)
That's funny that he dumped Catherine, good for him! (oops, was that out loud?) /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

***BANANA****
Did we talk at the Pony Finals a few years back at Fairfield??
I was Ben Guanciale's first "employer" after college.
We had Shorty at Sea Spray (St.Pete). After Jessica had so much success in the Mediums, Shorty had to start two other little riders!
She was sold after Rachel Bromberg got too big for her.

Also, I think I offered up Carouselambra way back. Had a notable Large Green year in 1984. I'll answer my own query, for the good of the thread...

was ridden by Rachel Tennyson.
