I just got off the phone with Dublin, she called from her Vampire moment and is getting blood right now. The chemo has changed to a different type and it is knocking her for a loop. She said to please let you know since it's difficult for her to email everyone who has so kindly written to her, and also thanks everyone for their kind thoughts and prayers and love and loff.

All I can add is this: if you didn't pray before, please pray now. If you are already praying, pray harder. We have the most glorious evidence that it works, in the form of our little Lionheart, and if we can channel some of that over Dublin's way, it may just do the trick.

I just can't stress this enough.

Dublin, you GO girl!

Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in my soul
And sings the tune without the words
And never stops at all...

These are a few lines from my favorite Emily Dickinson poem. Dublin dearest, when things are at their bleakest, hold onto hope and hear it singing like a brave little bird in your heart.

Hang in there, Dublin!!

Here's something I found:

If you can find beauty in the colors of a small flower,
then you still have hope.
If you can find pleasure in the movement of a butterfly,
then you still have hope.
If the smile of a child can still warm your heart,
then you still have hope.
If you can see the good in other people,
then you still have hope.
If the rain breaking on a roof top can still lull you to sleep,
then you still have hope.
If the sight of a rainbow still makes you
stop and stare in wonder,
then you still have hope.
If the soft fur of a favored pet still
feels pleasant under your fingertips,
then you still have hope.
If you still offer your hand in friendship to others
that have touched your life, then you still have hope.
If receiving an unexpected card or letter still brings
a pleasant surprise, then you still have hope.
If you still buy the ornaments, put up the Christmas tree
or cook the turkey, then you still have hope.
If you still watch love stories or want the endings to be happy,
then you still have hope.
If you can look to the past and smile,
then you still have hope.
If, when faced with the bad, when told everything is futile, you can still look up and end the conversation with the phrase "yeah....BUT.." Then you still have hope.
Hope is such a marvelous thing. It bends, it twists, it sometimes
hides, but rarely does it break... It sustains us when nothing else can... It gives us reason to continue and courage to move ahead, when we tell ourselves we'd rather give in.
Hope puts a smile on our face when the heart cannot manage... Hope puts our feet on the path when our eyes cannot see it... Hope moves us to act when our souls are confused of the direction.
Hope is a wonderful thing, something to be cherished and nurtured, and something that will refresh us in return... And it can be found in each of us, and it can bring light into the darkest of places...
Never lose hope.

Do you know what protocol (drug) she is using?

I'm a member of the "cancer clique" at work -- one of my very good friends has metastatic breast cancer, and is currently on a lulu of a drug.

With a bit of research, she managed to control a number of the ill effects with diet. I know it's awful -- but sometimes there are ways to make it more bearable.

For Dublin - A song about horses and strength. I sent this to Coreene and she was going to send it to Dublin. Let's all pray that Dublin will ride Wild Horses again soon.

She Rides Wild Horses
Kenny Rogers

It's just her and the band and the clean up man
She's countin' up her tips, she did alright
She says goodnight
She drives home to a three room flat
Checks her machine and she feeds the cat
She's almost asleep
Before she turns out the light

In her dreams, she rides wild horses
And they carry her away on the wind
And they never make a sound
As they fly above the ground
Tonight she rides wild horses again

She's fallen in love a time or two
Somehow it always fell through - but she's strong
She carries on
Her life ain't always gonna be this way
She knows she's gonna shine someday
But for now
She'll escape until the dawn

In her dreams, she rides wild horses
And they carry her away on the wind
And they never make a sound
As they fly above the ground
Tonight she rides wild horses again

In her dreams, she rides wild horses
And they carry her away on the wind
And they never make a sound
As they fly above the ground
Tonight she rides wild horses again

In her dreams, she rides wild horses
And they carry her away on the wind
And they never make a sound
As they fly above the ground
Tonight she rides wild horses again
In her dreams, she rides wild horses

Today is a three stall day for Dublin. It is really true that, while mucking, one's mind can wander and think about other, more important things.

Yesterday, I thought about and prayed for Dublin for several hours while doing barn work. That is far longer than I prayed when I used to go to church.....

Dee Dee, today would be my Dad's 83rd birthday. He joined my mom in Heaven almost 4 years ago. I truly believe that he has been the angel on my son's shoulder. Today I am asking him to watch over you as he has over little Natie (and Aiden too) and use his (undoubtedly solid) influence with God to ask for your speedy and full recovery.

Hello all:

Sorry to log on under Deed's name. This is her husband, David. I feel lucky to have met several of you, and am happy Dee Dee has made so many friends. She got onto the board after she was rediagnosed in 1999, and did not want to disturb everyone with her diagnoses, until it recently became more of a problem.

Dee Dee is in the hospital now, because she was having fluid on her lungs and abdomen, as a result of blood clotting. They had to control the fluid, before they could give her lasix (She has shared it's usage with horses with all the nurses). They took off 4 liters of fluid from Jan. 29-31, and it has really tapered off since then. She has been resting comfortably since that time, and will be in the hospital until the end of the week. They want both of these things under control before she can go home.

She was able to have chemo again on Friday. She had not been able to do it for several weeks, because of these other complications. I understand clotting is not that uncommon in this situation. We do know she will be much better off when she comes home. Whether the chemo will end up getting rid of the cancer is still not clear, although we are still hopeful. It has been in her bones, relatively harmlessly for several years. The cancer that has spread is breast cancer, metasticized, so they are treating it with chemo drugs effective on breast cancer.

I will share this WONDERFUL post and your beautiful support with Deed tomorrow. We will let you know how she does when she gets out. Your messages are greatly appreciated.

David L. Blinn (aka, Mr. Dublin, aka Lucy's papa).

David,

Which chemo drug is she on?

A very close friend of mine is taking Xeloda (common for metastatic breast cancer) and she had *horrible* reactions to it until she limited her folic acid intake on the weeks she was taking the drug.

Please pass along to Dublin that we are thinking of her!

Dublin, you can tell the nurses that some of the same chemo drugs that are used to treat breast cancer are used to treat tumors on the udders of mares. My best friend, and one of my favorite horses are both using the same drug right now.
