Large chestnut pony?
If it's the same Chase the Stars I'm thinking of, he's in Indiana. Casey taught bunches and bunches of kids the ropes in large ponies. He was awesome, a great teacher and everybody wanted him as their first large. I'm not sure if he's alive anymore, it's been three years or so since I saw him at a show, so I've assumed that he is retired since I haven't heard otherwise.

oes anyone remember a 13h chestnut gelding by the name of 'Small Talk'?

My friend does. She used to ride at Deerfield and remembers they had lots of really great horses and ponies - Grey Judge and Tar Baby and many others that won quite a bit.

He was such a good pony! He won a beautiful cooler for being grand pony champion at Port Jervis one year, and the cooler was stolen off our tack room display at Harrisburg. We were furious!

He passed away some time ago- it must be 8-9 years ago by now. What a good boy.

What about KESWICK ? Won the Pony Finals twice - one year he won all three phases. Nearly always won the Model & hack, great, horse-like jumper.

Anyone remember the great Pennsylvaians - Gerry Goldman - Junie Kulp - Jack Trainer competition ! !
Junie ALWAS dressed to kill, Jack with at least 4 different whips in his back pocket , and Gerry with that white horse van that he & "DRES" used to stay in at the shows.

Can you believe that 13 girls rode Dresden ?

Does anyone remember how Junie's All Around Vans would create a square in the van parking lot ?

Hey Shorty, I used to ride with Junie. If I look around some, I can probably come up with one of those "van squares" you're talking about. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hey Shorty, you forgot Sally Graeburn and...the guy that owned Absolute...I suffer from some-timers. That man was interesting old school...I fenced judged Rador 3-day with him one yr....and I fence judged with Jack Trainer too. I miss Jack. He was one of the last of his kind.

Hey Shorty or LaurieB---Do you remember a large pony at Junie's, All Four, he was bay with 4 white socks. It would have been mid to late 60's, maybe 70-72, not quite sure of the year. I got the pony in 73.

The funniest was the PHSA awards banquet 1/1999, listening to Jerry and Jack debate who was better, Dresden or Mimosa. They were the best, much like their ponies were.

showjump, I was at All Around from 1965 to 1968. All Four wasn't there then, though I do remember showing against a bay pony with that name. I think he was owned by a girl named Debbie Dolan? (I hope I'm not having a senior moment here. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif). I remember him as being a very cute large pony.

Do any of you guys remember the pony Glannant First Harvest? I used to ride him and was told he was an incredible pony in his younger years. Just wondering what all he had done. Here is a pciture of my riding him. He was like 22 in this picture. I think that was from 1995.

Anybody know the whereabouts of a white pony (small, I think) by the name of YES I CAN, or YIC for short?

LaurieB-- I don't think Debbie ever rode him. she's younger than I am. I was pretty much his last rider. I leased him to a few people in the late 70's, then he went on to be a walk trot- short stirrup pony. He would still try and run off with the kids when he was in his 40's. I know Sally Kenan showed him right before I got him.

Drat showjump, I probably have that rider's name wrong then. Sorry about that, it was a while ago. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Four On The Floor was owned by the Ellmaker sisters. He was sort of a Hot Shot Kid wannabe.

Junie for sure had the best group of ponies, he also beat you by numbers, all nice, fancy, and turned out absolutely the best. His grooms really taught & showed everone from Pa. how to do it... the right way!

Gerry, with Dresden, had a great pony and a real tenacious, go for the throat, wanna win, drive that truck anywhere to be high score winner attitude !

We were lucky to grow up in that era & be able to learn from them !

I'm just posting these pictures on the off chance that someone who knew the Findeln ponies might remember Robin if they saw a picture of him... Here he is, doing what he did best, taking care of his kid.

And here one where you can see him a little better. This is at my very first show.

I will have to see of I can find any conformation type shots of him. Most of the ones I have of are he and his kids (My brothers and I).

I've really enjoyed reading this list; it brought back a lot of great memories!

I was very fortunate to show three ponies mentioned on this topic: Woodland's First Ballot, Martini Mouse, and Sand Castle. They were all wonderful ponies, but I believe that "Ballot" was the best pony I ever rode. I still remember riding Ballot for the very first time in the schooling area at the spring Tryon, NC show in 1979 and later telling my mom over the phone how wonderful he was. I last saw Ballot five years ago at a family farm north of Durham, NC.

I'd like to mention three ponies that I rode that deserve mention with the others:

Lady La Reale, a\k\a "Blondie". I believe she was Green Pony HOTH in 1978 and lightly shown in 1979 due to injury. I showed her in 1980 for Don Stewart. Her new owner changed her name to "Preference". Unfortunately, she died in the Ox Ridge fire right after she was sold. Blondie gave to me my only taste of success at indoors when we were second in the lg. pony stakes class at WIHS, behind Lucy Rutter and Crimson 'N Clover.

Swing Along: This pony was related to Lady La Reale (I think both were Farnley Luster babies). He was a lot of fun to ride after you got him cranked up to the first jump.

Farnley Skyjack - He was the most inverted jumper you'd ever lay eyes on, which made for a great pony eq. mount. The most memorable thing about Skyjack was the ease in which we could establish a rhythm.

Again, thanks for the memories!

Martini Mouse! I knew him when Tricia Andrews had him. Forgive me if I'm repeating this, but I can remember her jumping him around the indoor at Fairfield bareback with no bridle or halter and he was perfect. What a pony!
This thread has gotten so long I have no idea if I told that story earlier...

danagrrt - Count me in the Martini Mouse fan club! MM came into my life when Libby Tate owned him. During the summer of 1981, whenever Libby had to compete in a gymnastics tournament, I'd get to show him. MM was a fabulous pony to ride .. very scopy. He had quite a name when he came south, so I was just tickled to be able to ride him.

http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Future Pony Mom, count me as a Ballot fan! i was always partial to him, as i had his spitting image, Woodlands Shropshire Lad. i loved my pony beyond belief, and to this day get all teary eyed when i think about him.
i'm so happy to hear you saw Ballot after all this time. He was an amazing pony!
i remember Martini Mouse, too. Never could win against him! Too cool....

I rode lots of the Woodlands ponies - I owned Woodlands Show-N-Tell and Woodlands Viceroy and also rode Woodlands Magic Cloud and Woodlands Welcome as babies. There were tons of others too. Brings back memories!
