I had a phone call from Silly Mommy last night, with very sad news.
Sabra was at a show, and had a hysterical call from her farm manager.. her beautiful brood mare Annie, mother of Drew (Yak), had dropped dead in her paddock.
dear Sabra, Annie has left you a legacy in your beautiful Drew, and what a wonderful legacy that is.
She will live on in him, and in all his beautiful babies to come...

I am at a library computer checking emails, and had to check in here.

Annie was indeed awaiting the vet to come and inseminat her Yesterday. The swim team arrived at 9:30am, I left for the show I am at at 10am and the vet was coming at 2:30ish to inseminate.

I was schooling a horse at the show when my cell phone rang. It was from my BM at 1:30, and I assumed the vet had come early and had a question. Annie had suffered a massive aneurism in her pasture. Poor kid was hysterical and I guess I was just in shock, until later when I called Gail.

I called Liz immediately and asked if there was an option of making a substitute, which of course she obliged. I didn't know if the mare I wanted to substitute was even close in her cycle as, well, I hadn't planned on breeding her - but of course, all the mares on the farm had been in heat this last week. She had a CL - recent and soft. The vet was saying how it wasn't ideal... I told him, "OK, you're there, the swim team is there, she has ovulated recently - put it in her!!!". Vibes for the SOTA swim team and Cookie's egg.

Just so y'all know, I had seriously thought of breeding Cookie (by Mandarin, out of a Consul mare), because she needs more time to mature mentally before she persues a show horse job, but chose not to, since I didn't want to have more than three pregnant at once -- she isn't just a uterus. Cookie is on the sales page of my website.

On a brighter note, Anie was not only the mother of Yak, but also Sweetie, who just got 3rd and 4th today out of 25 horses at her third show! I am riding like crap, and she was just fabulous - the ring is spooky, and she went in like an ol' campaigner!

Thanks again - I'll be checking in throughout the week when I can catch a break.
