I find myself going to the Dressage BB when I want to find a good price for something. So I thought I would start the same thread over here. Anything that is a great deal -- from one day blowout sales, to an incredible find on CL, to a really low ebay price on an item, etc. Post them here.

This is NOT a thread for people selling their own stuff to advertise on!!

I have a friend who has turned me on to http://www.classicsaddlery.com

She says the woman there (Linda, I think) has been around for ages and is incredibly helpful, always good shipping on time, and has some of the best prices for what she's looking for.

Here are ovation field boots (second down) on sale for 119.00

Dewey - Thx for posting this link. Question: Do you or does anyone know if these will last at least a little while?? Don't want to get them only to throw in 6 mths. Just threw my Ariats (Quantums) after 8 mths - seams splitting, the entire inside lining around my ankles ripped apart, and the leather around the toe seam was badly splitting.

Can't afford better boots right now...

Thx guys in advance for your help

I have to admit I know nothing about this particular boot, though Smith-Worthington is a fine company and has been in business for years. I used to visit there all the time when I was growing up; they did all my tack repairs. I don't think the boot in the link is one that they make in their Hartford factory. You could try emailing them for more info.

The boots are such a bargain, though, that even if they don't last that long, you can hardly go wrong.

People are always asking about cheap polo shirts. I ordered a couple of these from Old Navy the other week:
http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=72260&vid=1&pid=685146

Decent looking pique fabric (not the plain stretchy cotton) and long enough to tuck in to breeches. May only last one season, but at that price, I'm OK with that!

Update:
Recvd them 2 days ago. $39.90 with shipping (very fast shipping!) for the smooth finish. Made in india.
Pros: Comfortable riding and walking - especially the padded tongue - no cutting into my ankle front like the Ariat Quantums. No flimsy lining (that will rip apart) so they breathe for summer riding.
Steel shank, supple leather, slip resistant sole, nice looking, the sizes are true unlike the ariats which depending on which subcontractor is making them can be too narrow to too small.

Cons - the sole is glued on.

I got a 1/2 size larger and put Dr scholls gellins for extra comfort.
I beat up my paddocks so I'll report back as soon as the soles start falling off:lol:
But for the $$ I'd say they are worth it for the budget minded.

What size for regular 17/5-18" close contact saddles?

Well, there are two sizes for Engel pads. The link that was posted here, only seems to have the smaller size which is UP TO a 17.5" saddle. My jumping saddle is 17" and that size pad works perfect for it.

If you have a 18" saddle, you need to get the LARGE - which goes up to 18.5" saddle. There is an Engel sheepskin pad seller on ebay that carries those sizes. I've bought 4 of my pads from her.

If you have a 17.5" saddle - you are sort of between the two sized. I always prefer more pad under the panels, so borderline, I always go up.

But here, you can see how HUGE the Large size is. This is a 17"CC saddle on the LARGE size Engel Pad. It is a bit big, IMHO:
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk150/elaineshickman/Tack%20and%20Equipment/closeupofbatessaddle-1.jpg

Here is the Medium or smaller size, with my 17" County Innovation. It fits perfectly:
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk150/elaineshickman/Tack%20and%20Equipment/closeupofsaddle-1.jpg

The Large size Engels are GREAT for those with bigger footprint saddles or larger seat sizes. They are VERY generous. Here is the Engel pad with the HORZE label on it. It's the super LARGE size too. I think easily someone with an 18.5" saddle can use it. It's a bit large for my 17.5" VSD, but still looks okay.

For those asking about the quality of the SW paddock boots. I bought a pair of the brown ones years ago at their annual blowout sale. LOVE LOVE LOVE them.

I am fortunate enough to work less than a mile from their place so have daily access to their merchandise. Great folks, great quality. What I will say is that their leather goods (halters, bridles) run large. So unless you have a large headed horse, the cob size might work.

Got a pair this morning - thanks. I received the flyer for Dover's tent sale, and thought I'd have to go there on 5/18 at 8:00 am to get that price.

I bought a pair a couple of months ago, and I **love** them. I intended to break them in and then save them for shows/clinics so they would stay looking nice, but now I don't want to ride in anything else! So, I'll have one pair for schooling and the other for shows/clinics. I never would have indulged in that luxury at full price!

Yes.

I show in these or a pair of TS Professionals with the euro seat. The material is thicker than my TS, and I think it covers up your little imperfections. However, since it's the "professional" material, it's not too warm or bulky. It has that nice feel on the outside that shavings won't stick to, if that makes sense...

Got two oversized leather halters with solid brass fittings that were from Libertyville Shop close out. I think I only paid about $23 each.

The halters came and they were stamped WALSH on the buckles and they fit!

$23 for a nice leather double crown buckle, rolled throat latch with snap, triple stitched adjustable nose WALSH halter. Very glad I ordered two!

As the owner of two of those halters, I'm not sure I'd describe them as "really nice".

Adequate? Yes. A good deal for the price? Sure, I guess. Mine were not wearable right out of the box....soaked them in oil for a day, and then let them hang in the sun, and then they were fine for the >30min a day that my horses wear them. After two years of hanging on a fencepost in the sun/wind/rain/snow/etc, the one I'm still using is definitely quite soft, but not a lot to look at...

Just as an FYI. I'd rather spend $50 at one of the many track halter places and get a nicer halter.

Also with July 4th coming up I imagine there will be other sales going on!

VTO is selling Soft Touch girths for $20 in brown and $15 in black right now. I just ordered 2, one black, one brown, and WITH shipping, my total came to $39.99, which is less than the price of one regularly :)

I bought one of these girths at Rolex and LOVE it! I just hose it off after each ride. I will say that they are on sale because there is a new model that is more contoured. I just have to make sure that mine doesn't get bunched up where the elastic starts but it seems to be holding up really well. I use it probably 6 days a week. The brown fabric not the outside does have armpit sweat marks on it from my horse and that doesn't seem to want to go away but for an every day I love it.

If anyone has one of those in a 42 they'd like to sell or trade for a 40 I'd love to talk to you! My "horse" fits in the 40 if I wedge her in one hole at a time and don't use anything besides a thin pad.

But for the $$ I'd say they are worth it for the budget minded.:

Update - Have had these boots about 6 weeks now - I beat the hell out of my paddocks and btw the extreme dry climate and the constant showering of horses they are holding up - but better than that they are the most comfy paddocks I've ever owned. They broke in immediately and my tight fitting half chaps fit over them with no problems. Bye Bye Ariats!! :D

I bought one the last time they were on sale and love it too although I have the same stubborn armpit sweat on it. Other than that, it's a great girth and the horse seems to prefer it over my Coolmax one.

This is nice to hear. I originally posted that link but had no knowledge of how the boots would hold up. So glad they worked out! Since they are closeouts, maybe you should order your replacement pair early!

The only pads I found at that price are the square cotton schooling type. I need a pad for showing (hunters) so needs to be contoured/fitted.
I'm going to order a few of the square cotton pads though. Can never have too many in this heat!

I have this halter (http://www.tackwholesale.com/paris-tack-padded-leather-adjustable-horse-halter-p-1376.html) and love it. The leather isn't fantastic (as in not super soft and supple) but it looks great.

I LOVE my Perri's leather halters. They are super soft (I would say comparable to Walsh halters) and come with a bajillion options. I personally love the track halter with the throat snap (I HATE the adjustable chins, especially in group turnout, it just gives them a nice handle to chew on). The oversize of the Perri's halters also fits like a true oversize. Having a 17.1 monster, finding halters that fit is a nearly impossible task. More often than not, "extra large" halters have cheekpieces that are WAY too long and regular horse size halters are too short in the throat. I usually order 2-3 at a time from Horseloverz.

Ditto this. I love my perris halter. And OS is definitely true to size. I also have a Thornhill halter with an adjustable chin and I like it. My boy doesn't wear his halter when he is out though.

I've had two Perri's leather halters, and they were great. When one broke recently, I ordered this halter from Danzig Bros. http://www.mcssl.com/store/danzigbrothers/catalog/product/6902f4d32bfb45ce86d8c3fc9bbcd2e6

It is absolutely beautiful -- and yes, nicer than the Perri's halter. The cost ($54) included the name plate, and honestly, it's one of the highest quality nameplates I've seen. The engraving was so nice. Caution, these halters run big. The horse size was WAY too big for my 16.2 hand TB. I spoke and emailed with Bill Danzig a number of times, and the customer service was excellent. They also have more expensive and less expensive halters and other leather goods as well.

For those that like SmartWool socks for winter (or like myself, any season but summer, and even then occasionally for showing because I find they don't get so sweaty and smelly), REI is having a big clearance sale. I picked up three pairs at the store tonight for under $10 each. The website selection (http://www.rei.com/search?cat=4500006&search=Footwear+Sale+and+Clearance&cat=4500006_Socks+--+Mens%2C+Womens+and+Kids&hist=cat%2C4500006%3AFootwear^search%2CFootwear+Sa le+and+Clearance^cat%2C4500006_Socks+--+Mens%2C+Womens+and+Kids%3ASocks+-+Mens%2C+Womens+and+Kids) doesn't look quite as extensive in the knee sock variety, which I prefer for riding. If you've got a store nearby, it may be worth checking out :)

Jen, Sierra Trading (http://www.sierratradingpost.com/womens-socks~d~271/smartwool~b~19440/?page=1) also has SmartWool socks on sale for dirt cheap. I love them, too--I am a total sock snob and SW are the only ones I like. I'm particularly partial to these thin black ones (http://www.sierratradingpost.com/smartwool-hiking-liner-crew-socks-merino-wool-lightweight-for-men-and-women~p~11903/?filterString=womens-socks~d~271%2FSmartWool~b~19440%2Fcolorfamily~blac k%2F&colorFamily=32), which are perfect in paddock boots.

In hopes of dipping my toe back in the eventing world this fall, I also scored a nice longsleeved polo in my colors (http://www.sierratradingpost.com/pique-knit-cotton-polo-shirt-long-sleeve-for-women~p~4594r/?filterString=womens-shirts~d~265%2Fcolorfamily~green%2F&colorFamily=28).

You can't beat this price for an extra pair of zippered field boots to have on hand. Judging by other Ovation products, probably not bad quality, either. $94.54, a little more for talls. Only in slim and XW, though.

This is a deal if you live in Colorado and have your own arena:
A recycler who knows me has taken on recycling the rubber crumb from the first of several synthetic turf athletic fields. He is selling this at 30% less than the least expensive rubber crumb I have found in Colo. (He has to pick up the turf strips and shake the rubber loose, than scoop it into sacks). This is very small pure crumb rubber - 1/8" minus, but no dust (I tested a sample).
It will work down in your footing and STAY DOWN without a lot of harrowing, even when the footing is dry, because it is the same size as the sand. Because it stays down under the surface, there will be very minimal float off in rain storms.

He has 200 tons of rubber now. Transportation and spreading would be on you, or he might help arrange transport. This rubber is located near Boulder, Colo. For 1" deep coverage, figure ~ 2 lbs per square foot.

Olsons Tack is having a closeout sale on these boots (they don't list them on their website, though). They are the ones with the softer, shinier leather. No zippers, but I am having them sent down to Anthony's in LA to have the zippers put in. They say that have quite a few sizes left. Happy Shopping!

This may be common knowledge, not sure, but for my North Carolina COTHers, Victory Canter's warehouse in Concord is open to the public and anything purchased there is (I believe, if I remember correctly) 10% off. They only have a small selection, but the owners told me that I could call ahead and ask for anything from the website and they would get it in, and as long as it's paid for at the physical location in Concord, NC, the discount applies! Also, if you call and ask them to order in anything from the website, you're not obligated to buy it if you go and see it and change your mind. They offer it as a service so customers can see the products before buying if they need to.

I lived in N.C for 16 years and never knew about the warehouse. It's a little off the beaten path, but totally worth it. For under $200 I got a nice saddle pad, nice show breeches, a tipperary schooling helmet, a leather lead for my halter, a little bridle charm of St. Francis of Assisi that my mare's "grandma" wants her to wear on her journey out west, and a gorgeous belt for showing. All name brands.
