Hi everyone,

I just finished re-seeding the horse pasture and need to move the boys off this area for at least 3 months. We have about 3 acres in "front yard" that I would like to use the Horseguard Temporary kit - using their fiberglass step in posts along the long sides and trees trunks for more sturdy "anchors". I have two geldings - one is 34 and the other is 20 -so I dont think they will be too rowdy. I am thinking of getting two of their "temporary kits" and putting them together. My husband is not fond of the idea of putting permanent fencing in this area - so I will need to be able to remove it - or move it around as easily as possible.

Has anyone else used the HG fiberglass step in posts? Would they be sturdy enough?

I have the kit, it's what I started with. LOVE it.

They aren't step-in posts, not like the term makes you think. You will want a t-post pounder to get them in.

I have use the fiberglass posts for cross/temp fencing many times now. As long as you have a solid post on each end to hold the tension, and KEEP the line tensioned, yes, they are sturdy enough AS LONG AS you do have it electrified to keep them off it ;)

It's not a system you want to be moving on a regular basis, not like a rotational grazing system where you'd be moving it every week or so - it's just a pita to pound in and take out. but you COULD move it that often if you had to. But for being in place for 3 months, absolutely.

My STRONG suggestion when you put it up is make very sure you have a straight line. The fiberglass posts really don't make a good bending line - they flex too much. So if you DO have to make a curve, try to put something quasi-permanent in place and keep the fiberglass on a straightaway.

Okay, that sounds good. I will be ordering it this week and hope to install next weekend. I may use a few t-posts if needed, but I am hoping to use our larger trees as "corner posts".

Yep, as long as you have study end/corner posts or "posts", you'll be fine with the fiberglass as the line posts. Trust me, I've set up many temp lines with these, still using the same HG fiberglass posts I started with 8 years ago. They do start to age a little, you can get away with barehanded pulling them out in the beginning but you DON'T want to do that as they get hours and hours of sun on them LOL

I've only broken one, and that's when the mower hit it LOL
