I was pretty pleased to find out I'd be able to watch this over the internet! Am curious if anyone else is.

It is accessible via ShowNet Vision and their new live streaming ability. It is not free though. Had to join for $50 but then received $50 free credits for streaming. I figured it was worth it because they will also be streaming from Devon.

I am watching it as well, I've used the Vision service twice before, and although the quality of the video isn't as good at USEFNetwork, it still works!
However I believe the free credits are only good until April 1st, I may be wrong but that's from what I remember in the email blast they sent out about it

I just got up to the ring to watch in person.

I had hoped to be here in time to see it from the start, but the vet I was waiting for must need a new watch.

I bet myself you'd be there MHM!

do either of you know what the "schooling ring points" are based on?

and thanks for the input Iequitate - the man I emailed said the points would work for Devon, but I'd better check now!

I wish there was sound with the video - its weird to have it dead quiet without hoof-falls or the crowd.

Typically they have a separate judge watching the schooling area to award points for the rider's preparation to go in the ring, since they have no trainer allowed to help them for this class. I don't know who that judge is this year, but they usually find someone with lots of experience for that job!

They said it was Karen Golding, who I know has been around forever.

One rider only got a 3 while the rest have had the full 6 points. What would give someone the 3?

One rider just got a 0, I would assume that's a major fault - maybe fell off, ran her horse to bad distances, wasn't following schooling ring etiquette, etc.

who got the 0? I didn't hear that...

I would imagine the score from the schooling area might reflect whether you allowed enough time to get ready, gave clear, polite instructions to your groom, jumped an appropriate number of warm up jumps, etc.

I'm just guessing, though.

Wonder what happens to your schooling score if you have a horse that takes an odd prep, ie no jumping, only flat, etc.

Last year when I judged the Ronnie Mutch there was a rider that got a 0 in the schooling area. We subsequently found out that it was due to jumping the flagged jumps in the schooling area the wrong way. There are a number of things that could get them a 0.

Schaefer Raposa leading with a 92, Tori and Maddy Darst tied with a 90.5. Right now the others to return for second round are Lauren Tyree, Shawn Casady, Kelcie Brophy, Liza Finsness, Anna Cardelfe, Kristen Lutz, Syd Shulman, Alexa Boggio, and Jacob Pope. 11 more

Schaefer Raposa is leading right now. Tori Colvin and Maddy Darst are tied for second right behind her. About ten left in the first round, then the top twelve scores come back for the second round. Further testing after that as needed.

Snarky Question--Given what GM has been saying lately about the crest release, does the class require use of the automatic release?

Short answer: No.

Long answer: A smart exhibitor who can demonstrate a good automatic release might be wise to use it well. I've seen a couple of people do that at the finals when GM judged. With good results. ;)

I thought Kristen Luzt and Roseberry had a really nice round - anyone else surprised that she didn't get a higher score? or did I miss something other than her slightly too tight turn to the final line?

He is, for some reason Shownet didn't have his score on the list after Charlotte was done.

Are they allowed to talk to their trainers between rounds 1 and 2, or are they still in a "cone of silence" ?

MHM
Mar. 23, 2012, 06:50 PM
No communication until the class is over, I believe.

And Kelcie Brophy on the pinto had a stop at the third jump- didn't quite get the simple change done in time.

Glad to see the Tyree sisters in there. They're both amazing riders in the hunters, jumpers, and equitation. Nice girls too. Can EB show in the class even though she won it last year because it is based on placings throughout the circuit?

So top four coming back to test in this order:

Thanks for the updates everyone!

The livefeed never came back on :(. I am going to ask them to give me an hour credit back which will hopefully allowe me to watch the 2nd and 3rd rounds On Demand provided they offer it.
