What are your non net or mat ideas for an inexpensive hay feeder for a single horse paddock? One idea is a plastic water trough but there are no drain holes or building a wooden box but weight and transport may be an issue if >50 lbs.

I have used an old tractor tire in a pinch. It ended up working so well we used it for a long time.

Some kind of water trough + a drill. Get the trough, drill holes in the bottom for drainage and remember not to try using it for water .

Our cheapies were always BRUTE garbage cans (in the biggish size) with holes drilled in the bottom. These were then bungeed to the fence.

This was before we learned that BRUTE cans are virtually indestructible... and ACE ones are not.

Blue plastic barrels (under $10) cut off at about 28" high (you can use the short tub for a grain feed tub, too) with holes in the bottom. Holes drilled at the top and a strong string or rope to tie it to a tree or fence post. Easy and cheaper than a water trough.
