Anyone ever stenciled/put decals on a wall? New house has wall in the hallway that has had scarves hanging on pegs all winter, but now that they are put away the wall looks empty. I don't want to put photos of anysort up becuase in the winter, the jackets/scarves will cover. I'm not so artsy, so I was thinking decals might be easier, something like this (http://dalidecals.com/Simple-Cherry-Blossoms-Wall-Decal-Sticker-Graphic.html) or this (http://dalidecals.com/Flowering-Cherry-Blossom-Branch-Wall-Decals-Graphics-Stickers.html) or this (http://dalidecals.com/Extra-Large-Cherry-Blossom-Branch-Vinyl-Wall-Decals-Two-Color-Your-Choice-of-Colors.html)
How did they come out? Do they look like cheesy stickers on the wall? Should I just try to stencil?

My In-Laws have wall decals from a company called Simply Said Designs. They look great! I think the trick to get ones that proportionally fit the area. They have three in their house and I think they really add character to it.

I would definitely do the stencils. It is super easy and I think the end result is much more *professional* looking than decals. Plus decals would probably start to lift off after a period of time unless they're put up with super strong glue (then how would you get it off if you ever wanted to change the design, color, etc.).
FWIW I did stenciling in our house (and had never done it before). I love the look. And besides being so easy, it is also very inexpensive. And there are thousands of stencils to choose the perfect design for your taste. And tons of acrylic paint colors too. Try it - I think you'll be really pleased with the results. :)

I repainted my kitchen recently and then finished with flying pig stencils. The website http://www.stencil-library.co.uk has a great selection. The delivery to the US is a bit show, but not bad.

I have some of the decals around my house. Mostly in my youngest daughter's room but elsewhere too.
I love the decals! Much better than stencils.
1) takes less than 5 minutes to apply
2) They don't look like stickers
3) if you get sick of them, they take 5 minutes to remove and you'd never know they were there.
They make some beautiful ones and in tons of colors. Comparison shop for prices.
You can also have them custom made and it's not expensive.

In my experience, decals can go either way. We have one in my bathroom that looks like some excellent artist put it there. But my sister has one that is trying its best to abort. I think it has to do with the surface. My sister's decal wall has some kind of texturing on it, and the decal is really not interested in sticking.

With good surface prep.. decals are the way to go. They've really improved in the last 5 years or so imo. Some, you really can't tell they aren't stencils

I raided Wal-Mart's (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Room-Mates-Country-Stars-and-Berries-Peel-and-Stick-Wall-Decal/16946671)wallpaper/border section for decals and love the results!!!
They have the sayings too.
