View Full Version : Best Drag for Indoor Arena

Hi Everyone,

I'm currently struggling to find a good drag for an indoor arena and am desperate for opinions. The indoor is a 20m X 60m and I currently use an ATV with a small drag behind it. The problem is, we're constantly having to pull down the footing that gets packed against the walls, have trouble getting in the corners, and frequently have to move footing around to even things out.

Ideally, we would be able to use a drag that could be pulled with an ATV, however, if there's an amazing drag out there that requires a tractor, that would work, too.

For those of you who have tried different drags (in an indoor or not), which ones have been your favorite and why? What did you have to pull them with? Has anyone found that certain drags are better for smaller arenas? Are three point hitched drags really better than typical drags? Another problem that we run into is not having much space to turn...it can be hard to maneuver in the smaller arena.

I've done a search of the forums and have read a couple of old topics, but I'm curious to get recent opinions!

Thanks! :)

I just got a Parmagroomer that I can pull with my tractor or 4wheeler, though I've only used it on my tractor thus far. I love it.

I also have a spinner drag that pulls behind the ATV, a harrow drag that pulls behind the ATV, and a 8' chain harrow that I can use with the tractor. The Parmagroomer on the tractor is, by far, the best of the lot for grooming the ring. I got mine from Premiere Footings.

As I have posted in other threads, I highly recommend the Arena Rascal Pro from ABI. You will find many people here have great things to say about it, if you search some of the older posts. Look into "Profile Blade Technology."

Footing On The Walls: This is a common problem that can be solved with (A) using a drag that does not displace more material than necessary and (B) by the drag have a wall or rail blade option to pull that material back from the wall to be leveled back into the arena.

Getting Into Corners: To get into corners, with an atv drag, it needs to be able to be lifted out of the ground with a wheel lift system to drive in reverse. Also look for a drag that once you back into the corner, it can actually get a dirt moving component up against the wall to pull material back out.

Moving Dirt Around: A lot of times having to move dirt around a lot is due to (A) an arena that is in need of renovation or (B) poor arena drag design which displaces material improperly or (C) improper dragging patterns. Here is a video that shows some common arena drag patterns. http://youtu.be/dNRvq_fQ0lA

Hope this is helpful...
