Darn Likit refil is suppose to last a couple of weeks but one of my mares will spend all day or night finishing one off.
They come in garlic and other flavors as well, actually the container says there are also vitamins etc. so I don't feel so bad with the mare eating pure sugar.

I have this little picture thinngy on my desktop called a widget. It is some program my hubby found and you can get a big ol' digital clock, the weather report and the picture frame thing. The picture frame will bring up pictures you have stored on your computer. So, I am passing my time looking at random pics of my horses, cats and greyhound, and watching these silly girls. The only reason I am not getting annoyed with frosty for holding out on us is because, occasionally a pic of my colt pops up and I can say, "ohh, look at the cute baby colt..."

Wow! By the time you shipped it, it would $200,000 ... then it needs to be installed, foundation, wiring, plumbing, etc. Surely, you could contract with a local contractor to build a similiar barn for less. A MD 6 stall barn with feed and tack room in my area was about $25,000 (not including concrete and foundation). I would think that this type of 24 stall barn could be built for around $100,000 in our area. I know that California prices are more inflated, but I think that their price is a little unrealistic. Bet that they don't get any takers.

I would think so, and she is eating etc. but...unless she slept last night at some point she doesn't seem to be resting much at all. By the time she does foal she is going to be exhausted.

Distocia is when the foal in the birth canal the wrong way, bum first (breech) or a leg stuck or something like that...basically

I wouldn't be too concerned about her, just yet. Now, if she was up and down, sweating heavily and nothing progressing, then I would be a little concerned and get the vet out ASAP. She's resting and eating. Looks like a long first stage of labour for her this time around. Looks like she's packing a big colt in there!

OK guys. I just had to see what has generated 70 pages in a couple of days.

I found the link and have watched the foal cam for a bit. Two questions:

1. Why is the timer 50 minutes behind my clocks? If it was in the midwest, I could see 60 minutes behind (Central Time) but I don not understand 50 minutes.

2. I am getting still pictures which change every 15 - 20 seconds. Is that what I should be seeing? I had a mare that laid down for 2 days. She would lay flat and roll up on her chest. She would get up, circle, dig, and lay down again. She never acted frantic, but just not normal. My vet came out, palpated her, and moved the foal around a bit (found both forefeet). As her cervix was open, she gave her Oxytocin. She delivered normally about 15 minutes later. Her placenta had a HUGE hematoma and my vet suspected that the foal had a foreleg twisted. Now, the mare did not actually have a dystocia, but I think we possibly prevented one.

The second time I saw this type of behavior was with a mare who hemorrhaged, had a neurologic episode four days later, and eventually had to be euthanized due to right side paralysis.

It has been my experience that the mares do not become frantic until they are in stage 2 labor and having problems.

On the other hand, I have only foaled out 13 foals (but, witnessed many others). I am sure we have someone on line with greater experience.

Watched her for a couple hours this morning, then went and did the grocery shopping. Figured this would help, because mares ALWAYS foal when I'm at the grocery store. Its very annoying.

okggo, he has a lot of silver in his tail as well as on his legs, the bay markings (black) doesn't go up his leg like it normally does on bays.

I like the chestnut mare better. I would like to see her in a different photo where her hind end and neck can be judged, but she is better balanced then the bay mare.

Ok, the neck is actually better than it looks, though she is still heavy, she is just turned weird in the pic. She is 10, other mare is 6. Bay is just off track with bowed tendon. Chestnut has soundness issues, probably would only hold up for broodmare duties.She raced A LOT. Both are 16.2 or 16.3.
