So the pair won the USHJA Derby and then had zero jump faults in the GP? Am I reading that correctly in the COTH article on Frances Land's GP victory in Gulfport?

I know there have been some current hunter derby horses who have backgrounds in the jumpers, but I was so shocked to see a pair who doing both at such a high level and in the same weekend no less!

Sounds like the old days :-) Holly is a great rider and with the right temperment of horse it is certainly possible. Most likely couldn't happen at, say, Palm Beach but still a testament that good basic skills in a horse and rider can translate to good rounds in both venues.

It is absolutely true that Holly and Triompf won the Derby and then did well in the Prix at Gulfport, and it's not the first time. There was an article in COTH awhile back about the pair winning the hunter derby at the Fleur De Lis and then, a few hours later, turning in a clean first round in the GP. Holly is my sister's trainer and I've heard her say that T is the most talented horse she's ever sat on - and he's proving it!

I do remember reading about that, quite an accomplishment.

And, it was so cool to see that horse do the hunters so easily and quietly, then go and jump clear with 2 time faults, just due to a wide turn in the GP. Congratulations Holly and Triompf!!

This horse is only 8 and exceptionally talented. I would not be at all surprised to see him duplicate his success in Palm Beach in the future. I would love to see what he could do over a bigger course, he makes what he is doing now look effortless.

due to a wide turn in the GP

Words rarely said about Holly. Although I remember when they did the Fleur De Lis derby and GP on the same day, she did choose the wider turns in the jump-off because he was tired.
