Nikita, have you tested her milk? That was really helpful for us. We were up only 2 nights. We missed it anyway. We both dozed off around 5 am and woke up at 6:40 and she had just been born. I swear Raissa knew we were watching her and she was waiting until we weren't looking. Sneaky mare! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

i am in the same boat with my mare who generally foals at 324, 326 , 328 days . she is now 332 days and had wax for 5 days and so huge and sunken, i keep saying oh its tonite. i am starting to worry because my friends think she is overly huge and she was ultrasounded 3 x and only one was found, , but i have a friend who did the same and her mare just foaled twins, and they died. i am so nervous.

338 1/2 days and counting..... This is the longest I have had one bake in 7 years. And the longest I've watched one. I've been spoiled. I can't even begin to imagine when people post that their horses are at 360+ days. I'd be looking for a gun to shoot myself. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/dead.gif
And Spot, I'm thinking Sunday night or Monday. After calling Alicia on Tuesday night and telling her this is going to be IT.... and it wasn't http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/no.gif she told Liz to wait until she got back from Vegas on Sunday. Liz is probably listening. They're all trying to get me back. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/sigh.gif
Who took the remote?? I want to change the channel. I want to watch *YOUNG STUD TV* instead!
Good luck to everyone who is also watching and waiting.
graystone - no I haven't, I've never done that and have been very lucky with just being able to tell without much watching. I guess I'm due to not have it easy.
Bugs - next year you get your group together and I'll send you my phone number. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif Cheating is GOOD!
stonefieldfarm - believe me those thoughts have gone through my head at times too! This started off as a twin pregnancy and the mare is HUGE! Ask Spot, she saw her last week and couldn't believe how massive she is. All of it just adds to the gut wrenching. I want it over!
HFSH - 4?? Ouch! Two is enough thanks. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Best wishes!!

I have one at 349 today. She has just started to build some bag and I can barely express a few drops of clear liquid. I would be going crazy if I didn't know that she carried her first two for over 355 days.
When I have enough to do a milk test I should have a better idea of how much longer she plans to hang onto her munchkin. I am impatient for this one though as it is my first foal from her. She's a states premium Hanoverian mare in foal to Regazzoni. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

It is the Elizabeth Victoria mare - Vegas' dam. In foal to Sato. The next mare - Special Lady is next to go. While they were originally about 4 weeks apart, now if Lizzie is 2 weeks late and Carly is 2 weeks early, Carly may well beat her to it, or Nikita will have the 2 foals back to back!
What fun! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif
I think Nikita is going to look into a foal cam for next year so she can sleep, and the nice COTH'ers from around the world can watch the monitor for her and call her once the water has broken, and she can get some nice sleep and let others stay up instead!

Perhaps I am a light sleeper, or just lucky. The last foal that I had, I had a baby monitor. I slept through all of the normal horse noises, but when her water broke, it was like an alarm went off.
Now I have a camera. I just sleep in front of the TV with the sound up high, and I am hoping that I will hear her when she becomes restless. I wake up several tmes a night anyways, and just look up at the TV. Sure beats running out to the barn to check everytime!

Let's see... Spot came after an older brother that returned home neater and cleaner than when he left in the morning. Parents thought 'This is EASY to raise a lovely child' and cut Spot lots of slack.
Spot was a child from hell. I agree. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif

The End.
Oh yeah, no *&%#ing foal. Her milk has changed colour though, does that count? When I fell asleep and fell out of my chair about 2am I decided that enough was enough. I took new puppy out so she wouldn't wake me early and went to sleep. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/sleepy.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Puppy then proceeded to whine and yelp non-stop until 7am when I just couldn't take it anymore and took her out. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif Who would have ever thought that much noise could come out of something so tiny??

I'm right there with you Nikita. I'm not sleeping in the barn yet, but I'm trudging out there every few hours during the night just to be safe. My horses think it's great, because they get to mug me for treats at 3:30 am!
Yesterday we had some significant udder changes and I was able to express a STREAM (rather than a drop or dribble, as I had previously) of thin clear, but slightly cloudy fluid. I'm watching for color and viscosity changes, and she should wax (she did last time), so at that time I'll be in the barn 24/7 for the most part. I think we're got a few days to go, at least.
We're on day 355, and I'm ready for the baby to come! I've been glued to this webcam long enough!
I finally set up a photo album...take a look!

Hmm, me thinks a nice early morning Easter baby. Palomino and white of course and cute as can be. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif Do we have names picked out yet Nikita? You sure have had enough time to think while on foal watch.
In the mean time you can keep us entertained with more stories of Spot http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif I think I was a cross between the angel and the trouble maker. You know I really wouldn't mind if she went longer as long as she didn't look like she was ready to foal every friggin day. I can't remember who posted the Wax On Wax Off comment, but boy was it accurate!
When I checked Liz this morning her milk was definitely white, rather than cloudy. So maybe????? AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif
hunt_jump http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif No, no foal. I feel like I've let everyone down. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif But funny, no I don't have any names yet and I usually have a list. Any suggestions for a barn name? Zoe for a filly maybe? Heck, give me two names of each. The other mare is at 320 days today so maybe I should watch her? A sneaky, tricky maiden.

Hang in there! My maiden TB went a year to the day last year and had a healthy colt - without me! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif No wax, not even a full bag. I was exhausted and came back to a dry baby! At least everything went well and she was a fabulous mother. We did have to help him pass the meconium. I think that and being a little down on the fetlocks is common in babies who stay in the oven longer than normal. But they pull up quickly.
We are wishing a quiet foaling for you before dark! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

just came home from the barn where we have a mare that was due on March 23rd.
"WAS" is the operative word here ... http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif
She is about 15.2hh and right now, is wider than she is tall.
Tonight she is streaming milk and both hind legs are wet and sticky. Yesterday she was dripping milk and both hind legs were wet and sticky and they were POSITIVE last night was the night. No such luck, obviously http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/no.gif
Luckily for them, Easter dinner is about 100 yards further away from the barn than their house is, so they have a long range baby monitor they are using, plus are using the "take a bite of food, then jog to the barn" method of foal watch tonight with her until dinner is done.

I've got 322 here who's putting me on an emotional rollercoaster ... Saturday she kept pulling her tail over her back and squirted a little something once and was looking at her sides... Yesterday she only ate one full ration of food between "AM" feeding and today's "AM" feeding, as well as constantly looking at sides and just looking uncomfortable... Told my friend if I went on foal watch she'd decide to give me sleepless nights until sometime after my wedding in 13 days... As of this morning, still VERY crabby, looked at sides a few times, and threatened to kick me when I looked at her udder ... So, she's threatening to kick me and everyone else is threatening to kill me if I get hurt this close to the wedding, so I'm not allowed to put my hands under this maiden mare ... If no baby, does ANYONE wanna come to lovely lower DE around April 23rd ? LoL ...
Nikita, any updates? My fiance says to me (after orginally saying no) that I should have a webcamera so I can watch it at home ... I thanked him for telling me no a few months before and by the time I was to get it, she'd foal ... He said, so, you'll have more, so, off to buy a webcamera once the wedding is over ... Does staples have something like that? Maybe I'll go pricing ...

well i still have only one but today is only 336 days. but my mare has been waxed for 10 and sunken severly and very very fat:-(. i also noticed very scant traces of blood, just around vulva, not on hair or anything. i have been breeding 11 years and have never noticed this. A couple friends said it is the cervix breaking down or toneing down, any suggestions?

341, and ONE BIG FAT BLOB http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif She was up and down most of the night, when she's down, she's dribbling milk, SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, much to her dismay, I've left her in for the day - it's pretty cold out and I don't want her accidentally foaling out in a field with four other mares.

Funny you mention that. My mare who is now at 318 days has started bagging(although small) about a month ago, and her pelvis started relaxing two weeks ago. I noticed last week that she had small traces of blood on her vulva, and I wondered too if this was some sort of sign.

They may press their tushy against a wall or rub. They may wring their tail in an up-down motion. The bag should be hard and shiny (wet looking) in appearance. The teats should look like thumb tips. You may or may not see wax or milk streaming. You may see bloody show on the hind legs ... this is the mucous plug. The vulva may have a purple/bruised appearance around the inner rim and will be flacid. The croup will be very soft and tail relaxed. The flanks should be hollow in appearance and the belly should be pointed. You should not be able to view the belly when standing behind the mare. She may sweat lightly ... check behind the elbows. Body temperature may drop 2 to 3 degrees. She may circle, dig, and pace.

However, just to cheer you up. A certain beloved horse mine was born after 375 days of gestation. yes one year and ten days. I know this because I trailered the mare to be LC and held her while she was bred and trailered her home...
This mare showed NO SIGNS.. not a full udder, no wax, no dripping...
Her foal previous to that one was one year less 2 days.....the one before that was just short of a year gestation too...
and this was in the days before we had tv monitors.. just fisher price and a alarm clock...
and all babies were perfect!
good luck everyone!

Last year I had my one mare Our White Lady, have completely WHITE milk for 3 WEEKS!!! By the end of the three weeks when she foaled, I could have taken a hammer to her for keeping my up for 3 WEEKS...thank god she was the last mare of the year last year to foal. She is coming up in May...oh I can't wait. This rain crap is getting depressing too...more until Friday, before we see the sun!

Sorry. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/no.gif That was from October when she was six months pregnant. But this mare doesn't show all that much anyway. My sweet little Rohanna looked like she had swallowed a Buick and foaled at 319 days this year. Madame Blanche, on the other hand, is full in the flanks and round and slightly dropped, but not huge. But she is nearly 17h and has lots of room to hide a baby.
Besides, my girls are vain. They made me promise that I wouldn't post fat and ugly pics of them and that they would have beautiful fillies for me. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif I can't go back on my word, can I?? I thought it was a pretty good deal.

I am sort of watching mare TV. I sleep with it in front of my face every night. She has not waxed yet. She doesn't really have much of a bag. Whew, after several sleepness nights I almost missed the whole thing too. Was just heading out the door to run to the store and thought I would peek in on her. It was raining today so she was in the barn all day. When I went in she was jetting milk with every step. So hauled kids back out of the car and went in to watch the foal cam. Water broke about 20 mins later! What a relief as my husband was pretty freaked that maybe she would foal when I wasn't here. For once my chronically late personality actually paid off (was supposed to leave about 1 hr earlier lol). This was her second foal so was really expecting her to hold it till the middle of the night.

Day 354. Slight waxing. Picky about food. Last night at 2AM Chemetrics test was still only 90. Maybe tonight???
It is windy enough today that even fat preggy mares need to be tethered to the ground. My three week old filly keeps flying around on her little filly wings. Well, 359 days and counting. She has looked like she might go at any second for two days now. Dripping milk, mushy hing end, soft tail, very relaxed vulva (even looks slightly dilated). Unfortunately I have to go out of town tomorrow so I will be moving her to Warioto Farm this afternoon where she will stay through Monday. She could not be in better hands so I am happy about that although I hate having to move her at this point. But it seems the much better choice over leaving her at home with the very high probability that should she foal in the next few days it will be unattended. I can't believe that in six days she will have carried this baby for a year! My guess is that she foals tonight before I actually go out of town just to get one last laugh in at me. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Her OTHER mare just foaled this morning (with the rest of the baby herd!) one at 378 DAYS!!!!!! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/uhoh.gif Talk about sleep deprived!! We are at 355 days as well here. The "Fat Mare TV screen" now looks like a volkswagon on legs. I am so tired of listening to horses bang feed buckets, fart, poop, pee and run their teeth over the bars of the stall fronts all night long for the last 3 weeks!
And everyone in this family including the non horsey members are very tired of taking turns watching FAT Mare TV while the human mom gets other things done on and off the farm.
Good Luck for Healthy Foals and Mares to everyone,

Hi Nikita:
Sorry, I had tried to load the pic but the file was too big and did not squeeze through the pipe. The colt was 15 days overdue so he is well developed and strong. He is tall I think because he had so much extra time to bake. But I love the leg to body ratio as it makes him quite elegant. Not too heavy in the body or bone.
So, the Fat Mare TV show continues with round two. We are 8 days and counting for EM Donatella.

I am back. We had another colt Friday night! A chesnut colt, clone of Dad, Rhodes Scholar out of Donatella. This one looks very uphill, compact, solid, apple rearend. I see Rhodes Scholar and Donnerhall in him. He is correct and very sweet. All is fine here. The Fat Mare TV was put away for the season today!!
That makes my statistics about 80% colts! What is the deal! I want fillies!
Good Luck to everyone for healthy foals. I am heading out of town for a horse show and leaving husband with umbilicus dipping and temperature taking duties for the rest of the week!
Will post pics of the new colt after he gets the pigment around his eyes! You know how it is with chesnuts!

Our maiden mare is at day 354. I have gotten so used to hearing her over the baby monitor that I question whether we will be able to fall asleep without the sound of her munching hay. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif Although she looks like she has started to progress again. So we are hoping in the next day or two...maybe by Mother's Day? Please? http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/winkgrin.gif

Reno is 325 days. She is coming right along and I want her to SLOW DOWN! She has a very large bag. I'll start milk testing tonight. Abby and her colt are still in the stall and my husband is frantically trying to finish two more stalls. Hopefully, we will have a 12 x 12 stall ready for Abby and Riesen tomorrow and I can clean the 12 x 24 stall for Reno. It is going to be close ... I bet Reno foals before 340 days. Kix is 317 days and we need to finish a 12 x 24 stall for her by next week. I will be so glad when the barn is done (maybe sometime in the next 10 years at this rate http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_redface.gif )!

Our last Mirabeau foal came last night at midnight. The mare literally sneezed and out came the baby. YET ANOTHER BUCKSKIN FILLY!!! We seemed to be blessed with fillies this year. Only one colt so far and the rest all little girls! Couldn't be happier, we just love fillies. Now only one more mare to go until we can put away our fat mare TV. Thank goodnes!! Only about a month to go until we can both get a full nights sleep. Our little orphan is only eating every 4 hours now... http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif So one of us is up every other 4 hours.
Hoping everyone else is having better luck with their foalings I know it's been a tough year for us all. Will post photos of both of the new fillies as soon as we take some. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif

Geezzz, I'm on day 357 with my Dutch mare...who has never carried more than 342 days out of 11 foals so far and now she is on marrothon watch. I too am so sick of Fat Mare TV I can hardly stand it. I kept her in yesterday all day after putting her out for a bit and she just stood and stared into empty space in the middle of the field away from all the mare..so now she is out today and I have to check her very 30 minutes..I think she is trying to sneak her foal out on me in the field. Our White Lady, tried it this year in the field, but luckily it was feeding time and we catch her!! Sneaky old mares! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Looks like today could be the day for our final foal of the year. Our black TB mare is definately ready to pop... she looks like she's been ready for weeks. Everyone that has come by thought that she was the first due to foal but she still isn't due until the 24th, sure would be nice if we could have one in the afternoon http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif, so far they've all gone after midnight! Keeping our fingers crossed that all goes well with the delivery. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

My mare is "due" around the 24th as well. This is her third foal. She started to wax a little wednesday, but has been a little drippy and lots of wax since thursday night.
I am hoping she goes soon and does not keep me sleepless for another 2 weeks! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/dead.gif
Congratulations Faiths....yours are both adorable!
I hope you didn't snafu and fill Ontario filly quota for the month! I would like one too! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif

So I will be on here for awhile.

I am officialy signing back on for Fat Mare TV duties. Our second mare is at day 333 today. She has been slowly giving me lots of warning signs. Her milk changed tonight at 1:00 am when I did a final check for the night. So here I am still up watching the TV. Anyone else out there still on Fat Mare TV duty?

I'm back on the Fat Mare channel!!! My last mare is on day 332. She has had two full sibblings to the expected foal on day 325, one full sibbling 335 and one 347...so we are beyond the 325 and approaching the 335. But, the 347 one was the only filly out of the four full sibblings to expected foal...so maybe she is going to keep me waiting and have my cremello filly this year! Boy, aren't I getting carried away and setting myself up for disappointment! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif Plus with the Upperville Breed show on Sunday, I should be completely wiped out by then with staying up and sleeping with my Fat Mare channel on! Well, I'm off to a night of torcher. Her milk does not look anywhere near ready, but last year it did not look ready either and had I not been there for the foaling, the foal would have most likely died! I actually was watching my Dutch mare last year in the foaling stall, when at 5:00 AM my wonder dog Nico, bugged the life out of me until 5:30 AM to go out...I let him out and he kept running from me to the mare across the isleway which was Deb, I walked up to her stall and at that very moment her water broke..so a scramble to switch the mares around, so Deb would be in the foaling stall with all the straw. So, I have my dog to thank for saving that foal...the mare did not produce a foal at all for 30 minutes after the water broke, so Vet on the way, finally after 45 minutes a foal started coming out and it was not right at all. But, all worked out in the end and the filly was fine..but would not have been had my dog not alerted me to the fact that the wrong mare was in the foaling stall. I have always wondered how he knows this stuff!!! He amazes me!!! I have been awaken by him to go out and he will lead me to a horse in a feed pen, that I forgot to let out...now how he knows this?????

I haven't had a chance to get back on the board to update everyone until now. Our mare foaled Friday morning at about 6:30 am. She is a beautiful bay filly with three socks and a nifty crooked blaze. Very pretty feminine features. She seems a little small considering that her mom was as big as a house! Although she is quite down in the pasturns which makes her seem shorter.
I had to help the mare out a little and pull Rikki out. Then she was a little slow getting on her feet. After an hour I assisted her with this too. Then she needed help finding the milk bar. She finally was attracted to the right area, but wanted to suck on the side of momma's udder. Ater two hours I realized that I need to get some colostrum into her. So I milked out about 5 oz out of mom and fed it to Rikki.
Now the bad news. Around 1:00am on Saturday morning Rikki developed stinky yellow diarreah. This scares me because I had this happen last year with another foal who didn't make it beyond three days. I did get 2cc of penicillan into her just before the scours started. I did this on my vets recomendations, as he felt it is a good thing to do with the ones who are a little slow to get nursing. He said after they are finished sucking on everything in sight, they quite often pick up a bug. Well, he was right! She was treated all last night and today with Fortified Pepto (has antibiotics in it). After no improvement and after last years disaster, I told my vet that I wish to treat this more aggressively. So, as of tonight I started her on a combination of 3cc of Penicillan and 1.5cc of Amiglyde. Apparently this combination is suppossed to kill bugs dead!
Please jingle for little Rikki. I sure hope we end with better results than last year!!! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/cry.gif

Congratulations on the improvement with little Rikki. Hopefully she will continue in that direction http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif.
My husband swore that my mare was definitely going to have her foal today, and stayed home from work to be here when the big event happened. He didn't appreciate it when I came home and told him that she is not that close to foaling, and probably has a few more days to go. I can't wait for the big event myself. I'm tired of seeing bucket "babies" in the stall every couple of hours http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif.

Thanks for all the well wishes on Rikki. She seems to be fine now! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif I am continuing with her treatment anyway though. She gets another 2 shots tonight, and then again tomorrow night. I really hate making her a pin cushion. Last night when I gave her her needles, she let out this long heart wrenching squeal as I pushed on the plunger. I thought I was slowly killing her! She tenses her little muscles so much that she is bending the needle!
